TV & Films Recommendations for the week of January 29th to February 4th
Movies
#Saburo
Film: One Hour Photo (2002)
Genre: Drama, Thriller
IMDb Synopsis: A mentally unstable photo developer targets an upper middle-class family after his obsession with them becomes more sick and disturbing than any of them could imagine.
#Soft Flex
Film: M3GAN
Genre: Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Description: Gemma is a robotics engineer who reluctantly becomes caretaker to her orphaned niece Cady after a car accident claims her parents. After a rough and awkward adjustment period to living together, Cady takes a liking to M3GAN, a lifelike prototype doll that syncs with its primary child companion and learns how to bond better through repeated interactions over time. Soon thereafter, M3GAN exhibits unpredictable behaviour and Cady becomes overly attached, leading to problems for the new family on multiple levels.
The film plays out similarly to a Black Mirror episode, for those familiar with the show. And if you're not familiar, please consider this a double recommendation as you should definitely pick that series up as well (but for your benefit, skip episode 1 and come back to it after watching several other episodes first - you'll understand why later). It juggles the 3 listed genres, focusing on some moreso than others in certain acts, but I would also consider the film to be a comedy at times and, let's be honest, documentary at most. I would also recommend watching the movie as a group if possible - it's always fun to get multiple perspectives on a unique film like this afterwards.
