PUPL Champion
IMG_1746.jpeg

Time to get it poppin, here’s my quick PR.

1.Showdown Shoguns - SoulWind, Edgar: call me crazy for not having entro first despite his many accolades but after having played w SW in UPL I’m confident that a decent builder is all that’s required for him to be comfortably positive and getting that through helpers or even if it’s just Edgar making a ton of teams isn’t a hard ask. Not only is it a safer pick, it’s SW be fr.

2. Studio Gible - Fc, Fogbound Lake: This is a toss up for me, if Fc is playing I have him comfortably second. If it’s fogbound playing I’d likely have this team slightly lower, with both being decent OU slots it still seems hard to decide so I guess they’re tentatively second because Fc is just another person I don’t see doing poorly.

3.Technical Machines - Entrocefalo, Aberforth: time for the young king. Having played entro a couple of times, dude is defintely strong asf and having a 7k Aberforth as support is insane, worst comes to worst and entro gets cursed by being an expensive introduction into SCL, aber is a more than competent sub and should all go as expected having him cook with entro should for sure lead entro into a successful season.

4. Arena Spartans - Icemaster, Taka: so I originally was thinking of placing Situm in 4th and then I remembered getting fucked by ice like 20 times in test games and realized I couldn’t put him lower. I would fully expect taka to cook 10000 teams and I don’t see the two being vastly incompatible in the builder, across activity and ice just being a great player surely it can’t go too wrong

5. Indigo Platoon - SiTuM : Situm had quite a few impressive games in UPL and has been a staple, if I recall last year wasn’t insanely successful and I remember seeing a couple buzzwole fat teams too many. Having no support shouldn’t be an issue as they probably just got a couple of helpers and Situm is more than good enough to just make something and do some test games to see if it plays well and get some wins.

6.Power Plant Dynamos - fade, TJ, DAHLI, Mashing: originally I had jon quite low in this ranking cus no matter how solid you are, having played 0 games in the tier means you’re either gonna need someone to give you a big tldr or Gonna have to ladder / test a ton. I also don’t see anyone building besides mashing or outside support and I don’t know how well that meshes with what Jon likes playing with especially since mashing once dropped a fire ceus team LMAO. This squad likely grabs some wins and might go even or slightly positive

7. Uncharted Terrors - Inder, RichardMillePlain: goat inder, I assuming rich is gonna be in OU otherwise I would place this team slightly lower than it currently is. Inder is for sure competent and knows what he is up to, having some building insight from Richard won’t be bad but I think Inder independently can do well, I don’t see it being an insanely positive slot but I don’t see them going very negative either

EDIT: the grapevine has said Richard is starting, place this team below highlord, no offense to rich I just think there is a gap in skill level, inder support is good so they have some potential here but I’m way more uncertain whether rich bounces back from UPL and starts farming so it seems safer to put them lower

8.Circuit Breakers - London Beats, Gondra: London beats starter? I don’t see that happening but expecting one of M Dragon or Gondra means a solid officials player is gonna be here, not much to expect besides what is probably going to be some solid playing and maybe some losses here and there who knows who is gonna build and what’s gonna be up with activity but this team could very well shoot up the rankings

9.Mt. Silver Foxes - Highlord: my fault putting you this low when you help me do work. BUT I’ve never seen you play SV LMAO, granted a lot of these teams lower down have players starting that don’t play SV and I see highlord being way more active than them, it just seems like a hurdle to overcome. If he plays anything like he does in DPP Ubers then we are seeing a comfortably positive highlord, otherwise I’d expect him to go even

1. Showdown Shoguns: best player of all time + excellent building support, SoulWind and Edgar are the best Ubers pair in the tour and it doesn't come close. SoulWind had a fantastic UPL and I'm confident in that he'll translate that success to SCL. Edgar on the other hand has been playing SV on and off in ladder and tournaments and I personally believe he's one of the best supports one can get; if this duo gets the momentum going they'll be unstoppable.

2. Studio Gible: FC is FC. Dude builds 100 teams per team tour, complains about the meta, and drops a "won GG". Only reason he's not n°1 is because SoulWind is playing. He's very knowledgeable about the tier and he's not scared to try stuff out. Speaking of trying stuff out, Fog is the dude to bring Ruination Taunt Chi-Yu and Draco Meteor Eject Pack Koraidon to tournaments and win with them. I don't know how he does it, but he does it pretty consistently. I'm hoping this pair can develop some nice teams and techs throughout the tournament.

3. Technical Machines: Entro is one of the best current players of SV. Dude has like almost 1000 points above everyone else in the Ubers classic sheet. If that doesn't tell you he's good then idk. Aber will easily be able to support Entro with good teams, and in the worst of cases, if Entro does bad, Aber is more than capable of finishing with a positive score. Overall, this pair is one of the most solid ones because both players are very good players and builders.

4. Power Plant Dynamos: Mashing support. She's THE best support hands down, extremely knowledgeable and extremely good player too, being able to revolutionize the meta if she feels like it. No it's not being a simp, grow up. Her teams are good, and even if she suggests to Fade "it's a mausehold angle" she knows it's probably the best thing they can bring. Fade is a good player more than capable of piloting Mashing's teams, however crazy they might be. Dahli and TJ can also support Fade, this team just has the most amount of support of any team in the tour. I expect great things of the Dynamos.

5. Arena Spartans: Ice is a very skilled player, Taka is a very good builder. They are 100% compatible playing and building-wise and I don't see them doing bad unless they get heavily outplayed both in-game and in the builder.

6. Uncharted Terrors: Inder comes from winning UPL, I would put him higher but the other teams are well too prepared and are too good- no that doesn't mean Inder is bad. Richard on the other hand is a good player too that can also support and give ideas to Inder.

7. Indigo Platoon: I don't know how Situm will do without support but he's a good player that can pilot matchups very well, just that he tends to tilt a lot and games end rather quick. Helpers can go a long way tho, hopefully he proves me wrong.

8. Mt. Silver Foxes: Highlord has never played a game of SV in his life. He was drafted to play 2000 ladder games of SV per week, do even/well in SCL, and join Uberscord to complain about the meta. Highlord is a good player, but I don't know how he'll do without support. Hopefully helpers can get him a couple of well earned Ws.

9. Orange Islanders: The Sexiline is good. He can pilot almost everything you give him, even stuff like Focus Sash spam. Tier is a good overall player but I don't know how well the support (teams, building) will be. Overall this pair can give plenty of surprises so I'm excited to see them play.

10. Circuit Breakers: I have nothing against M Dragon and Gondra, I know for a fact this pair will show some very solid playing across-the-board, but I don't know what will be about M Dragon's teams, I don't know who in their team can build Ubers and I don't know how they'll do. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but the way I see things right now is like this.

Factors by which I rank the teams:
1. How good you are (teambuilding and playing)
2. Experience in the tier
3. My opinion of you as a player
4. Support

1. Studio Gible - Fc, Fogbound Lake
Fc and Fogbound in my eyes are the two best current gen Ubers players. Putting them on a team together can only mean one thing (they win).

2. Technical Machines - Entrocefalo, Aberforth
Entro's teams and playing are next to unmatched and with Aber as support you have a recipe for one of the strongest Ubers cores of all time.

3. Uncharted Terrors - RichardMillePlain, Inder
Richard is so underrated oml. Man is a beast and all he needs is a good team which Inder is the perfect person to help with. Real good player with a ton of experience and one of the best support slots easily takes 3rd place in my eyes.

4. Showdown Shoguns - SoulWind, Edgar
Edgar I don't think is as good support as Aber, Fogbound, or Inder which is the sole reason why I'm putting this team at fourth place. All of these players are really close in skill level so I think that figuring out the meta and loading up with hidden techs could very easily convert to wins. In that aspect this team is definitely the worst out of the top 4.

5. Arena Spartans - Icemaster, Taka
Played him a ton and I'm sure that he's gonna pull some good wins. Great player with a ton of experience can't go wrong. Going with Taka for support also can't be wrong and is definitely gonna help.

6. Circuit Breakers - M Dragon, Gondra
M Dragon, who might just be the best Ubers player of all time, and Gondra sound like a very powerful duo and could definitely be higher on the list, the thing is that I don't know if M Dragon even has any SV experience while the higher rated teams are also incredible players but with actual experience in the tier. Gondra I'm sure will definitely help a ton.

7. Indigo Platoon - SiTuM
Supposedly played in UPL although I don't remember that. I know he's a good player and has experience with the tier which is why I'm putting him above the other teams.

8. Power Plant Dynamos - fade, TJ, DAHLI, Mashing
Good player and really good support. They could definitely rise up from this rating. M Dragon is the only player who can get away with no experience in the tier IMO.

9. Orange Islanders - Exiline, Tier
Supposedly good player but with 0 experience whose support is weaker than the previous team's.

10. Mt. Silver Foxes - Highlord
Confirming that he's the best DPP Ubers player, but this is SV and that shit definitely does not translate (ESPECIALLY IF YOU START PLAYING A DAY BEFORE THE AUCTION).

As the known Scarlet and Violet Ubers Mastermind and Visionary Player and Builder that I am, I feel it my Responsibility to share my Unbiased and Completely Objective and Informed Opinions on this Pool and collect some HaHa reactions as Currency. However, I'm an Idiot. I cannot go the Lengths of assigning Numerical Values to the Ten Teams. Thus, I'll just provide My Comments on Them All in the order that is in the OP.

Note: I'll add some people that I think should count as helpers but were not deemed so by the corrupt and 4ft8in tall Ubers Tier Leaders (yes both have the same height).

Power Plant Dynamos - fade, TJ, DAHLI, Mashing, Tricking - I have zero idea how much and how well fade plays Ubers, how much TJ has kept up in his time in the Mountains, how much of DAHLI's Ubers Open Success can be converted to mere support, and does Mashing really count as "support" or just a Cook with no Reins. But it's a fresh metagame so past knowledge, while holding some value, will not be a dealbreaker. TJ and DAHLI might be the voice of reason, balancing the noise of chaos coming from Mashing and Tricking's camp, so I'm expecting some fun teams that Mainers might scoff at. Piloting those cool teams should work to strengths of fade the player, so I'm expecting one of three things - a +2 performance, a -2 performance, or a crash and burn. I also predict that fade will not play Ubers in all weeks of regular season. I heard Tricking will Heart react to a friend's post, then 4 months later change it to a HaHa.

Indigo Platoon - SiTuM, starmaster, Tony, SuperEpicAmpharos, teal6 - The 4ft5in tall Tiers Leaders declared SiTuM to be Alone. spits How silly of them. There are Honest Cooks in the Platoon, all of them having proven many times that they can learn and build strongly in new metagames. This should help overcome one of SiTuM's few glaring weaknesses - running into terrible matchups vs common stuff and complain his way out of them. I think he can be a Great Player, and I disagree that he's a tilter - I've seen him play well in bad positions many times. Complaining is not equal to tilting, people. He also doesn't know what nerves are, being one of the three Ubers Mainers (all French) that claim to be the Greatest Ever. I expect him to have a Positive Season. I heard teal6 has submitted a request to Tony that he cannot not support Platoons till at least one started is injured.

Uncharted Terrors - RichardMillePlain, Inder - Their preparation channel will be muted by everyone else immediately as it'll just be a barrage of French and nonsense Emojis. These two are very familiar with each other's Brain, and behind the Closed Doors I expect they'll come up with many a great ideas. Richard, being a French who does not shout his own acclamation, may face some nerves and that could impact his performance. If he can get through that soon enough he should have a Good Season. Also Inder will play some weeks. I heard he puts ketchup on his cereal.

Orange Islanders - Exiline, Tier - And the 3rd French Player and Ubers Main who is the Greatest Ever. Funnily, all the Three French Greatest Ubers Players combined for 2 Points in Ubers Open. The Islanders will have to make him sit down and teach him about all the new Pokemon, Moves, and Mechanics, because the only Scarlet and Violet gaming Exiline saw was in his Round 1 loss of Ubers Open to false. If he can learn soon enough, then with help from Tier he should have a positive season again. Despite my Vast Knowledge I do not know much about Tier except their score in UPL, but I wish them Good Luck in putting up with The Employed Exiline. Tier has been found feeding bread to ducks many times.

Studio Gible - Fc, Fogbound Lake - Finally someone who did OK in the Ubers Open (DAHLI is not starting Ubers). The Exiline Slayer went with a wise choice in the 4ft3in tall Fc, who picked this name because he was Fed crayons. Now that he's finally grown out of that phase of his life, I'm expecting even bigger things from the Tier Leader. Fogbound Lake is a weird player sometimes, but the support should be very good and we should see solid teams being led to victory by Fc being the second luckiest guy in the playing pool. Sometimes Fc still munches on a green colored crayon because it reminds him of grass.

Circuit Breakers - M Dragon, Gondra Garay oak, Lunala - Two solid players, and I have no idea how much they've played Ubers this year. Garay and Lunala are very good support to help with that, and M Dragon did do well Two Years Ago in this competition, but I think he was more involved with Ubers then than currently. Still, he has good support around him and his basics are sound, but since he hasn't impressed in Scarlet and Violet so far, I'm expecting a +1/-1 record. Some say that to this day, M Dragon thinks Tyranitar is a Dragon type, and everyone is too scared to correct him.

Arena Spartans - Icemaster, Taka - It's nice to see a Doubles Mainer like Icemaster try out new avenues, and I hope he'll find Ubers fun and welcoming. He has done well in Doubles in other tournaments, mainly in Sword and Shield when he was the Doubles Tier Leader, so plenty of experience is there. He had a 6-4 record in Doubles Two Years Ago in this competition, so he's used to the big stage as well. Having only picked up Ubers this year, I hear Icemaster has shown good performances in Ubers Open and the ongoing Circuit Seasonal. Taka is a very good support for someone new like Icemaster, and I expect these two to form a very close friendship and provide a decent result for their team. Icemaster's good friend, skoopa, also regained freedom on Smogon today which should provide a very strong morale boost. His friends have mentioned that skloomer's ban caused heavy emotional distress for Icemaster, and he has been behaving very differently ever since. Icemaster also bullied this lady.

Technical Machines - Entrocefalo, Aberforth - The Machines have decided that the luck of 4ft2in tall Tier Leader is better served in OU, where it might spill over to their other slots as well. Entrocefalo instead starts Ubers after very successful Ubers Open and UPL performances. With the momentum on his side, and gameplay that declares he's not a fluke, Entrocefalo is poised to have a dominant performance in SCL. Aberforth's support is inversely proportional to his height, which means the best support in The Tournament, and together, on paper, this is the strongest Ubers party in the tournament. Sadly, I do not know either of them well enough, and their friends have refused to provide any fun tidbits to share. A few of them looked mortified.

Mt. Silver Foxes - Highlord - I can only assume that Highlord was in the Mountains, working to improve his Bronzong's Hypnosis accuracy even further, and the Foxes just ran into him and picked him up. Besides a repurposed Tentacruel team and a bad version of a terrible outdated team, both in ORAS, humanity has seldom seen Highlord venture outside of DPP Ubers. Perhaps he's attracted to the Taunt Arceus speedties, or the Drive By Dragon speedties, or the the possibility of putting things to sleep with Darkrai. Whatever the reason, he has decided to play Scarlet and Violet Ubers and it should be entertaining either way and I have no idea what to expect. Wise choice by the Foxes to not get any obvious support, as Highlord only takes help from Nineveh/Lauriane/Banned Deucers. People have witnessed Highlord printing out each and every one of "Highlord won the battle!" messages and carrying them around with him at all times.

Showdown Shoguns - SoulWind, Edgar - The Shoguns have gone for a pairing that was alive to witness the actual Shogunate with their very eyes. SoulWind and Edgar have no fond memories of playing Ubers in SCL, so the upside is that it can only get better from here. The player is there, everyone knows that, but translating it to Ubers is still a WIP so far. Edgar boasting of possessing mysterious knowledge to easily counter the Drive By Dragons means he's very confident in his metagame knowledge and should be very good support. So all they have to do is give SoulWind a team that results in a non-terrible matchup. In past 2 SCLs, SoulWind has started with a win in the first week, and a 2-1 record by Week 3. After that things have always gone downhill, so perhaps they just need to be on their toes about their prep and not becoming too predictable. In my infinite Armchairing Capacity and Wisdom of "I would've done something else", I cannot predict how this will end. Some people have said Edgar only signed up because he heard the nonsense about "Koraidon is like Genesect" and that Darkrai is back. Someone should break the truth to him very carefully.

----------

That's it. I have not predicted anyone to have a bad season, because people are only picked at this level due to the very small chance of them doing poorly in the first place. Sure some cores are stronger than others, but in each of them there is a player capable of dismantling the playing field. I find ranking them very difficult as well, as after Top 5, it becomes very difficult, specially to rank someone last in a purely relative list because they're still good.

I would like to wish good luck to all the competitors, and a good weekend ahead to all who read this line.

SV Ubers: Exiline vs fade

- I'd say Exiline is generally a better ubers player but fade has better support in Mashing and DAHLI, so this one will be close regardless.

SV Ubers: M Dragon vs entrocefalo

- M Dragon is obviously an incredible player, but it wouldn't be fair not to hand it to the single most dominant Ubers player currently, especially since I value Entro's support in Aber more than M Dragon's support in Gondra.

SV Ubers: SiTuM vs Fc

- Fc prep and play is usually more solid, especially with help from Fogbound.

SV Ubers: Highlord vs SoulWind

- I can't go with Highlord here, who has zero experience in the tier, vs Soulwind paired with Edgar, a simply far too dominant combo.

week 1 predicts:

SV Ubers: Exiline vs fade

fade has mashing and TJ support. while exiline is strictly a better ubers player, fade has the advantage with the amount of support he has. i think he has a slight edge, but this match could go either way.

SV Ubers: M Dragon vs entrocefalo

entrocefalo is one of the best and most dominant current ubers players. while m dragon has all the history behind him, i dont think he can compete against entro, especially not if we take supports into consideration.

SV Ubers: SiTuM vs Fc

fc is fc.

SV Ubers: Highlord vs SoulWind

highlord is a good overall player but SoulWind is just way too fucking good, plus he has edgar support. i think this is the most one-sided matchup of the week.

SV Ubers: RichardMillePlain vs Icemaster

i think richard will out-prep icemaster in the builder thanks to inder.

SV Ubers: Exiline vs Fc

both come from winning their respective matches last week but I still think fc is more favored

SV Ubers: SiTuM vs Icemaster

i like how icemaster is prepping in the builder more

SV Ubers: Highlord vs entrocefalo

even if he lost to fc last week to an unfortunate choke, I'm officially onboard the HL hype train, he's so good

SV Ubers: RichardMillePlain vs M Dragon

m dragon keeps proving me wrong, he's using good teams and playing well. this is the closest matchup of the week for me (45-55)

SV Ubers: fade vs SoulWind

mashing support

SV Ubers: Exiline vs Fc
Still going for Fc because I think his builds are more solid.

SV Ubers: Highlord vs entrocefalo
Hard to bold vs entrocefalo regardless, but I've been liking his builds more.

SV Ubers: RichardMillePlain vs M Dragon
I think M Dragon has been playing better, but Richard's teams are more unpredictable / harder to prep for, which can make a larger difference since M Dragon is still adjusting to the tier.

SV Ubers: fade vs SoulWind
Just going off of previous weeks, I think fade's teams have been quite good and his play has been better.

Regardless of MUs though, i'd put everything almost 50/50, the pool is incredibly close / competitive at the moment.

SV Ubers: B entrocefalo vs Exiline
SV Ubers: Fc vs B fade
SV Ubers: SoulWind vs B RichardMillePlain
SV Ubers: B Icemaster vs Highlord
SV Ubers: M Dragon vs B SiTuM

SV Ubers: Fc vs RichardMillePlain - Richard has looked more solid and also has seemingly good takes on the meta just by looking at this teams, should be a good one.

SV Ubers: Taka vs fade - I think fade is a really good player and should do well against Taka if the Dyanamos don't cook too hard.

SV Ubers: M Dragon vs Exiline - M Dragon has been nice all-around. If he gets a decent matchup he should be able to win.

SV Ubers: SiTuM vs Highlord - SiTuM has to guess which team Highlord will steal next. I think he has the upper hand just because his builds are more unpredictable and he has looked better than Highlord has in this tournament.

Gl to everybody. :)

there's some other builds and prototypes/alternate versions of these I built, as well as some teams I built for other tiers so I'll post all my SCL teams in a paste here: https://pokepast.es/16d36385f3fbf881

just gonna do shoutouts now since our season is over.

First off, I really enjoyed this tour, it was my first official and I went in with nerves super tight. However, the environment the Spartans provided made it a lot easier for me to just build / test with everyone. Thanks to Vulpix03 and Hayburner for giving me a shot. I know our slot didn't live up to expectations but I appreciate the experience and I'll grow from it. Thanks to all my teammates and specifically the people I interacted with the most, Icemaster Lily Mana Sage Ox the Fox for making it so enjoyable.

Now moving onto specifically my time playing, first off shoutouts to the people who made sure I didn't build complete crack and gave me new ideas ox04 entrocefalo, thanks to GeniusFromHoenn bb skarm for giving me plenty of tests for SCL. I think I built some decent teams although I definitely had some exploitable tendencies both in building / playing, particularly playing a lot more safe than I should have and building somewhat similar teams at times.

Thanks everyone for everything, see you in UWC and potentially in next SCL.
