Huge Power Mega Mewtwo X is one of the most well-known figures and strongest wallbreakers in the metagame. Its Huge Power-boosted attacks can tear through almost any team, and very few Pokemon can take a hit from it. However, Mega Mewtwo X still requires careful optimization with its moves. The first move is Fairy- or Dark-type to force out or cripple its best tank, Giratina. Dark-type moves also target Psychic-type Wonder Guard users such as Cresselia, Meloetta, and Mega Mewtwo Y. while Play Rough targets Mega Sableye, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Rayquaza. Gunk Shot, Poison Jab, and Gear Grind hit Fairy-types in Xerneas, Mega Audino, and Mega Gardevoir. Gunk Shot has the ability to OHKO Mega Audino, whereas Poison Jab is more accurate, and it still OHKOes Xerneas and Mega Gardevoir. Gear Grind also OHKOes all three and can break Substitute. However, there is no poison chance, and it can still miss. Drain Punch is for OHKOing Normal-types such as Arceus, Blissey, and Slaking while gaining recovery back. Sacred Fire targets Mega Beedrill, Mega Scizor, and Genesect, as well as spreading burns on the opposing team. Thousand Arrows is for all the Ground-weak Pokemon such as pure Electric-types, Primal Groudon, Drapion, and Skuntank. Unlike other Ground-type moves, it targets non-grounded Pokemon such as Mega Rayquaza and Mega Manectric holding Air Balloon. Fusion Bolt and Petal Blizzard are for Water- and Flying-types such as Primal Kyogre, Gyarados, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Swampert. Mega Mewtwo X can make use of Water Shuriken to target Ho-Oh, Volcarona, and Primal Groudon. It can also break Substitute, as well as revenge killing a boosted Primal Groudon or Mega Tyranitar. Gastro Acid removes opposing Wonder Guard, ensuring its users are vulnerable regardless of your coverage while disrupting some key switch-ins such as Prankster Giratina. However, Gastro Acid makes Mega Mewtwo X a bit harder to always Imposter-proof, so it's rarely the first choice.136 Speed EVs are used to outspeed neutral-nature Mega Rayquaza. The remaining EVs in HP help survive some attacks, such as Choice Band Primal Groudon's Thousand Arrows, Mega Gyarados's Sucker Punch, and Extreme Speed from unboosted Regigigas. 220 Speed EVs may also be run to outpace maximum Speed, positive-nature Mega Latios or Mega Diancie. Lum Berry is nearly always run, as Will-O-Wisp, Glare, or Spore would otherwise completely dismantle Mega Mewtwo X.
Mega Mewtwo X can run so many coverage options well, but it still only has four moveslots, so it generally wants partners that can fill in the gaps in its coverage. Usually, the best choice is another Mega Mewtwo X, running either Huge Power or Shadow Tag, with another set of four coverage moves. It is best because each Mega Mewtwo X can bluff being the other; unless the opponent can tell them apart through factors such as HP or status, they're unable to respond properly. Other Shadow Tag, Protean, or Huge Power users can also fill in Mega Mewtwo X's coverage gaps, such as Shadow Tag Lugia with Perish Song, Protean Mega Latios or Mega Mewtwo Y, and Huge Power Mega Tyranitar. Most Mega Mewtwo X teams also want at least one priority move user, like an -ate ability user such as Mega Rayquaza, Mega Diancie, Abomasnow, Kyurem-B, Shadow Tag Regigigas, or Huge Power Mega Gyarados. Typically, slower bulky Wonder Guard users such as Mega Audino, Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, Skuntank, Blissey, and Mega Swampert are chosen to slowly pivot into Mega Mewtwo X via Parting Shot or Baton Pass usually being the main form of utility and field control for Mega Mewtwo X teams. Wonder Guard users also are the main way to Imposter-proof Mega Mewtwo X, specifically ones not weak to its coverage. Giratina with Prankster can use Spore, Curse, Destiny Bond, and/or Encore to stop sweepers, while Magic Bounce Giratina can keep entry hazards and status away, helping Mega Mewtwo X stay healthy. This support also makes two Mega Mewtwo X harder for opponents to tell apart.
Other Options
=============
Both Shadow Tag and Huge Power Mega Mewtwo X can run nearly any physical coverage move a team desires, and Protean Mega Mewtwo Y can do the same with special coverage. However, many options require significant chip damage to OHKO targets or are hindered by King's Shield. Shadow Tag Mega Mewtwo X can run Choice Scarf + Trick to incapacitate many passive threats, proceeding to set up entry hazards. If it keeps its Choice Scarf, it can revenge kill most bulky Mold Breaker sweepers, for example, boosted Mega Latios or Boosted Mega Rayquaza. Huge Power Mega Mewtwo X can run Choice Scarf as well, or a priority move, to OHKO faster threats, like said Mold Breaker sweepers. It can run Life Orb to help with KO rolls. Pursuit + Gastro Acid can be run to trap some Wonder Guard users. No Guard Mega Mewtwo Y can run Shed Shell to escape Shadow Tag users. Both Wonder Guard and No Guard Mega Mewtwo Y can run Taunt to shut down passive Wonder Guard users. King's Shield can protect Mega Mewtwo Y from -ate Speed users. No Guard Mega Mewtwo Y can also run a variety of coverage options to target specific Wonder Guard users.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Wonder Guard**: Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y can only run four moves, so some Wonder Guard users will inevitably wall their coverage. However, many defensive Wonder Guard users must be wary of Trick + Choice Scarf, and all fear the rare Gastro Acid.
**Shed Shell**: Shadow Tag Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y can struggle to make progress when opposing Wonder Guard users run Shed Shell for it.
**Giratina**: Giratina uses its huge bulk and resistance to common attacking types to safely switch into most Mega Mewtwo X and threaten them with Prankster + Will-O-Wisp. Trick + Choice Scarf can cripple most Giratina variants, but it is ineffective if Giratina runs Griseous Orb.
**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Offensive Pokemon that outspeed or Speed tie Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y, such as opposing Mega Mewtwo X, opposing Mega Mewtwo Y, and powerful Choice Scarf threats, can force them out. However, most are unable to switch in safely.
**Pursuit Trappers**: Huge Power Pursuit trappers, like Mega Gyarados, Mega Tyranitar, Regigigas, and -Ate users -ate users, threaten Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y with Sucker Punch and Pursuit.
**Revenge Killers**: Revenge killers like -ate Speed users and Huge Power Mega Gyarados force out Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y unless they have King's Shield, with their priority attacks. Variants without Shadow Tag or Shed Shell may also be trapped and KOed by Shadow Tag users such as Regigigas, Choice Scarf Primal Groudon, and Choice Scarf Mega Mewtwo Y.
**Sturdy Shedinja**: Shedinja with Sturdy takes no damage from any coverage move, but it must be careful about burns from Sacred Fire. Additionally, it is immune to Sheer Cold, letting it switch in on No Guard Mega Mewtwo Y.
**King's Shield**: Some King's Shield users, such as Primal Groudon and Wonder Guard Mega Audino, can use King's Shield to both scout Mega Mewtwo X's moves and lower its Attack.
