Final Fantasy XIII

So far, I'm really enjoying this game! I'm on Chapter 5 at the moment and still going (yes to booking 2 days off work when the game is released), and the only "complaints" I have is Vanille's annoying voice. My friend summed it up perfectly: "sometimes she sounds old, sometimes really young, and sometimes South African". Yeah I can't work it out either. And I sort of miss random encounters, but finding innovative ways to start a battle with a pre-emptive strike is a great way of earning more CP, so it evens out. Eidelon/Summon battles are LONG and ANNOYING.... I've got 2 so far and they were the two places I've been stuck so far.

edit: 4k post next ;/

Eiganjo

So who did buy all the stroopwafels?
is a Forum Moderator Alumnus
Vanille also sounds like shes been playing in a couple of porn movies as well, jesus christ shes moaning like mad in some of the scenes XD

Want sooooooooooo bad. D: Honestly, even if it sucks/is too linear/involves too much grinding, I'll buy it for the graphics, as they look fucking amazing. Battle system looks fun, too.

Ugh

Stuck at the Shiva sisters. Help?
EDIT: Never mind, it seems I didn't even give Sentinel a chance...trying it now.
EDIT: Hallelujah, I did it, and I was oblivious to the prompt on the last 20 seconds >.<

You're supposed to use Libre to learn what to do like the tutorial says.
I did, and it says that it yields when I amass combos, so I just kept spamming attacks with Commando. I didn't know you can use Libra more than once (*slap*) and that's when I spammed Sentinel and Ravager (alternating between the two). I beat them however.

lol, if you had trouble with Shiva, wait till you get to Odin...
Oh boy...

EDIT: Due to the rather above average difficulty of the Eidolon fights, I love them even more. FFXIII rules!

been a final fantasy fan since like ever so I was super hyped up for the game.

(on chapter 5 right now)
first off with the "problems" people have been having, I do not mind them at all, actually I'm really happy with the changes as they are much more convenient for the gamer.

the stuck parties for the first part of the game? no problem, if you've played final fantasy 9, you did the same thing for a good part of that game, it helps setting up the story and in this games case develops characters ( holy crap after playing tales of vesperia, sazh and lightning are some of the most down to earth mature rpg characters in a long fucking time)

linearity? its fine, its refreshing to not have to grind, go back to town to restock on stuff then go back to the dungeon, especially since in jrpgs, your path is pretty predetermined anyways, its that overworlds and stuff kind of try to hide that fact in the games.

healing after battles? great, chrono cross is my top three games ever and it used that system and with this games battle system it makes it such less of a hassle trying to micromanage something as insignificant as hp OUTSIDE of battle and lets you continue down the path, its also good because each battle CAN be challenging too

alright personal review so far: graphics and presentation are so so well done, an entire lake made of crystal? the forest area I'm in, the graphics overall are just breath taking

the music is amazing so far too, a great battle theme and a soundtrack that is solid for every area and scene. I'm sorry but I hated soundtracks like Star ocean 3 (also my one of my least favorite rpgs, but whatever) and also tales of vesperia's electronica weird battle theme.

battle system and customization are well done, you have enough party management to do and with summons and paradigms its exciting, challenging, and fun.

so yeah so far really enjoying it, pacing is alright so far too which really says something because normally for the beginnings of rpgs its atrocious, and I can really look forward to it picking up too.

again characters are cool and mature, voice overs are cool, yeah vanille's is odd but whatever, also Hope is turning out to be a good character at this part of the story too

real excited as to how the game turns out as i play more

my friends and i have developed codewords because the names of the characters are ridiculous. gonna go over to my friend's to play it later, since i don't have ps360. fishing rod girl is pretty standard fare as far as cute girl party member goes, pink cloud is also good as a main character because they've managed to cut out the gimmicks that lots of female ff characters have. she is VERY average and i love that final fantasy is taking a more realistic view with their main characters
big guy with hat is token badass...shiva's gestalt form only helps that

I'm waiting/looking for a PS3+FF13 bundle here. Then I will buy it with my cashmonies.
Not going to happen.

Microsoft is trying to make sure Final Fantasy fans from the PS2 generation will choose Xbox 360 as their console of choice. The carefully worded press release notes that this is "the only console outside of Japan to be bundled with the game." In other words, don't expect the limited edition PS3 to make its way Stateside. Ever.
Link.

On chapter 5 and it feels soooo long. Oh, and for those who are not at chapter 5 yet...

Yay, I got Odin!

EDIT: I'm on chapter 7 now, and...
I can use Fang now!

Okay. I've just gotten this game for today. It's priced at $52.99 instead of the usual price tag of $59.99 for new title. I'm kinda surprised, but I'm liking it anyway. I really wanted to feel what the hype was all about and decided to get it while I was on the trip to getting Pokemon SoulSilver.

I'll post something here about FFXIII if I found something cool to share with you guys.

Try just using Thunder spells on Odin, you should see his guage fill up pretty fast.

Just finished Chapter 10:
Ok no time to explore....ALEXANDER APPEARS

Heh, quite a simple one this time... use Libra to find out that he rewards those who chain (RAV/RAV/CMD), those who heal (MED/MED/SEN) and those who support their own (SYN/MED/SEN). I just started by casting Protect on everyone with the Protection Paradigm, then switched to Relentless Attack, healing with Combat Clinic whenever parties got low on health. Alexander looks MEAN. Now I can go exploring :D

Is it just me or was Odin ridiculously hard until I noticed that I had 3 Aegisols in my inventory? <_<
All I did was use the Double Dose Paradigm (Lightning and Hope are Medics) and I think Dualcasting (not sure, but I know I used Lightning as a Ravager). That's how I got Odin.

Alright, I was finally gonna pick it up tomorrow, but was having some last minute doubts. Not sure what I'm doubting though.

The story looks like it's trying too hard or something. I didn't play past 2 hours of either FFX or FFXII, so I wouldn't know if those were the same, but they didn't come off like that to me.

Am I worrying for nothing?

Although, I'll probably buy it for the battle system anyway.

After a few hours into the game, I have managed to play up to chapter three. At the begining it felt kind of awkward not being able to get the exp from battling monsters like in the previous FF titles, but later I learned that the character become stronger as more points are invested into their Crystalium.

What has to strike out to me the most about FFXIII would have to be the battle system. Never before have I seen the paradigm shift battle system. It allows me to change the tactic instantaneously; from going all-out-offensive to the defensive tactic when facing a stronger foe.

So far I'm utilizing Lighting as a Commando. I have yet to try experimenting her as the role of a Ravager. I have heard that she functions best as a Commando, so I will have her be focusing on that role for now.

P.S. Oh yeah, I also liked how everyone gets fully healed after every battle. It really saves the use of potion and phoenix down outside of battle.
