Yanmega @ Choice Specs
Ability: Tinted Lens
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Bug Buzz
- Air Slash
- U-turn
- Giga Drain
Bug is typically not a great offensive typing, resisted by the most common defensive typing in Steel. However, that's where Yanmega carves its niche: it was blessed with one of the best abilities a wallbreaker could ask for in Tinted Lens, which lets it effectively ignore any of its would-be resistances. With Tinted Lens, paired with Choice Specs and 116 Special Attack, Yanmega is one of the scariest special wallbreakers to see at Team Preview. The majority of RU's special walls are either hit super effectively by Bug Buzz, such as Umbreon and Cresselia, or still chunked heavily by Bug Buzz due to Tinted Lens like Registeel and Mega Steelix. While some Pokemon are able to comfortable handle Yanmega's mighty Bug Buzz, such as Milotic, Toxicroak, Mandibuzz, Florges, and Porygon2, access to Giga Drain, Air Slash, and U-turn means Yanmega can handle its own checks or U-turn into a Pokemon that can. Sadly, Yanmega's downfall is quite the noticeable one: its typing and bulk leave much to be desired. Specifically, a 4x weakness to Rock-type moves, and therefore Stealth Rock, means Yanmega's opportunities to switch in are limited unless it is paired with a Defog user.
