[SET COMMENTS]
Volcarona's expansive movepool, access to Quiver Dance, and item in Heavy-Duty Boots helps establish itself as a threatening sweeper in OU. Quiver Dance gives Volcarona its sweeping potential and allows it to muscle past opposing Pokemon. Flamethrower is used due to having higher PP and more power than Fiery Dance, though Fiery Dance is also an option to potentially boost Volcarona's Special Attack. Roost ensures Volcarona's longevity, allows it to come in repeatedly during a game, and gives it safer setup opportunities in tandem with Safeguard. Safeguard prevents status conditions, allowing Volcarona to set up without fear of Toxic or Thunder Wave. This lets Volcarona beat common checks such as Blissey, Toxic Rotom-H, and Thunder Wave Slowbro and use them as setup fodder. Safeguard also allows Volcarona's teammates, such as Rillaboom, to switch in without fear of status, such as Scald burns or Thunder Wave. Psychic can also be used in order to hit Toxapex super effectively.
Safeguard Volcarona is countered by Toxapex, so pairing Volcarona with Toxapex lures such as Block Spite Toxapex, Trick Clefable, and Calm Mind + Thunderbolt Clefable allows it to sweep more effectively. Teleport users like Blissey, Clefable, and Slowbro can bring in Volcarona without fear of status or Knock Off; the latter also appreciates Volcarona's ability to sponge Bug- and Grass-type moves such as Scizor's U-turn and Rillaboom's Wood Hammer. Spikes support from Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Skarmory help weaken Volcarona's checks and counters. Volcarona's sweeping potential is crippled by status, so clerics such as Aromatherapy Blissey and Clefable make for good teammates.

[SET COMMENTS]
This set aims to sweep through weakened teams thanks to Volcarona's access to Quiver Dance and great coverage, trading longevity from Roost with excellent coverage moves. Flamethrower is used over Fire Blast due to its higher accuracy, though Fire Blast is an option for more raw power, being able to OHKO Zeraora at +1, unlike Flamethrower. Psychic is able to hit Toxapex and Kommo-o super effectively. Bug Buzz hits Pokemon such as Slowbro and Hydreigon that resist or are immune to Flamethrower and Psychic, as well as Crawdaunt on the switch.
This Volcarona set fits best on offensively oriented teams due to its lack of longevity and ability to overwhelm the opponent offensively. Volcarona should try to avoid setting up until Pokemon that counter it such as Blissey are weakened or cleared from the game, so Pokemon such as Magnezone, Togekiss, and Kyurem that can wear Blissey and Chansey down are good teammates. Access to Knock Off and U-turn, as well as Grassy Terrain support, makes Rillaboom a fantastic teammate for Volcarona. Rillaboom also appreciates Volcarona's ability to remove Steel-types, such as Skarmory, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn, from the game while also threatening Water- and Rock-types, such as Toxapex and Tyranitar, that Volcarona is vulnerable to.
