Mega Gardevoir is among the most favored Pokemon from the arrival of Intimidate Incineroar in the VGC 2018 metagame. Its lesser Defense stat is patched up by Incineroar’s Intimidate + Fake Out combo, helping it fire up those big Hyper Voices. Although Pixilate-boosted moves are slightly less powerful than before, very few Pokemon want to take repeated Hyper Voices from Mega Gardevoir’s base 165 Special Attack. Since Speed is Incineroar’s weakest point, Gardevoir can assist in return by setting up Trick Room, which also opens the door for slow sweepers such as Snorlax and Araquanid. However, with its high base Speed, Mega Gardevoir can also shine outside of Trick Room, benefitting from Tailwind support from the likes of Zapdos. Psyshock rounds out Mega Gardevoir's coverage to hit Snorlax on its weaker side, as well as Calm Mind Tapu Fini. Despite its rise in viability, Mega Gardevoir still needs to watch out for Mega Metagross, which heavily resists both of its attacking options; even more of a reason to pair it with Incineroar!
This Mega Gardevoir set was the centerpiece of Nathan Wright’s team on his way to a third place finish at the Charlotte Regionals; the given EV spread allows it to survive a Thunder-based Gigavolt Havoc from Tapu Koko and an Iron Head from Jolly Mega Metagross after Intimidate.
