UUPL XII - Week One

• Follow all rules listed here.​
• Schedule via Smogon VMs. It's easier for me to make decisions for activity calls when I can actually see what went down with scheduling.​
• If you are unable to schedule with your opponent, please let your managers know ASAP so they can communicate that to me or the other team's managers for a potential substitute.​
• Substitutions may be made after a week has started. When making a substitution, please tag myself, the managers of the opposing team, and all of the players affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware. Players who have already played in the week or were subbed out in the same week cannot be subbed back in.​
• If a match remains incomplete by the time of the deadline, it will be subject to an activity call.​
• Replays are mandatory. Not only are they useful for confirming wins, they contribute to usage stats and allow the people who couldn't watch the games live to watch them later.​
• Managers: Please send me your lineups in the same format that I used to post pairings. It makes it much easier to post future rounds more quickly.​

GSC UU: dawnbuster vs Real FV13 - highly matchup honestly, I almost felt like picking fv but his recent habits of building right before playing are mildly worrying

GSC UU: Torchic vs d0nut - I'm really interested to see this match, d0nut is probably just overall better at this tier but Torchic has been paying attention more actively and I'm rooting for him too :P

GSC UU: innovamania vs SANKE CARP - dawn fv may be the highlight but this is the wild card, I'm a fan of both players generally but I think sanke's drive to prove himself and more knowledge of the builder will prevail

SV UU: Welli0u vs avarice - even though dillon has been around the community longer and has played this tier for much longer than well, he is the better pokemon player & also that this tier isn’t that hard to transition into from an outside perspective thus the edge good “mainers” would typically have over seasoned tournament players isn’t really a factor in my eyes. that being said, still cant really pick here so I’ll just say that I favour well slightly, but wouldn’t be surprised if dillon pulls out with a quiet victory.
SV UU: hellom vs Star - i expect star to win given his insane track record over the years and how he generally performs in these tournaments but swordstrike (i refuse to acknowledge your new name brother) has been absolutely heat recently and i expect the few things he cant figure out in battle will be run through him by whatever support structure he has, be it from lily or someone else. another close one, as both are so good but yeah. dont know why he was ranked as low as he was in the prs but hey… he’ll show the people i’m sure.
SV UU: Akalli vs mncmt - mncmt has the knowledge and experience edge, so its hard to see him losing.

SV UU: Meru vs passion - passion been heat as fuck in this tier for the past year and i feel like he always has a pulse on what’s gas and what’s ass. backed up by good play too and i dont know how much meru has been keeping track of things but this is p close.
SV UU: Punny vs Beraldo - i would bet multiple organs that punny wins, very cracked.
SV UU: vivalospride vs Rasche - would maybe bet a finger on viv but hes also good & one of the better builders rn.

SV UU: Askov vs MAHOH - i used to be a hater of his style, but ive grown to appreciate his brand of sv uu and it has clearly been working for him all throughout 2023; skarph is back from a near year long hiatus and is in a completely foreign land to what hes normally used to, so i expect this week and next to be warmup weeks. wouldnt be surprised if he won though because hes my goat…

SV UU: Mossy Sandwich vs Feliburn - mossy had a cool end to 2023 and i think hes much more motivated to perform than feli is & honestly feli hasnt been the best at this tier tbh

ADV UU: Xrn vs Hyogafodex - Xrn has much more recent tier knowledge and will have a more comfy time building against Hyoga, even if its something simple Xrn knows how to pilot good teams well.

ADV UU: shiloh vs Chaos23333 - This is a very equal matchup but I feel shiloh has the upper hand in terms of support and more willing to take risks while still playing well. Chaos has the adventages of better piloting and a more diversified scout but I believe shiloh could pull something off with lpz and bfm in the wings to support.

ADV UU: fatty vs Garay oak - I'll be excited to see this match. Both are great players and builders of the tier (I know fatty likes Linoone being gone) but my gut tells me Garay will get a good matchup and a stellar endgame is found.

ADV UU: Heysup vs Parpar - I mean it's Heysup, but also Heysup has good support as a backbone while I dont see much for Parpar, but both players are self sufficient and again another exciting matchup.

Very excited to see what's going to happen with ADV this season! I'll be making videos at the end of the week to give a whole review and it will be fun!!!

GSC UU: Lialiabeast vs pp's splash town - spent considerable time with lialia in altpl and so i think this could be a nice match. But ultimately i think pps got the dog in him.

GSC UU: dawnbuster vs Real FV13 - both players are great. from my time with both i find that dawn makes less mistakes. fv usually wins in builder so thatll be the biggest piece here.

GSC UU: Torchic vs d0nut - Spite pick for this

GSC UU: innovamania vs SANKE CARP - both are my homies. Sanke, my beloved 3k gscpl purchase, can struggle with the builder (self-admittedly). Sankes the type of player to not make any real mistakes in a match, which is great in GSC, but i wanna see the killer instinct to make big plays. Meanwhile inno doesn't play this tier as much but has a ton of raw experience. I'm super excited for this one

GSC UU: Lialiabeast v. PP’s Splash Town- both budding players for this tier, but after doing an extensive amount of tests, building, and tier discussion with PP’s Splash Town, I can say he is DISHONEST and doesn’t understand the tier. I would say i'm far, far, FAR more impressed with Lialiabeast and expect them to have the EXTREME advantage here.

SV UU: Meru vs passion
A duel between two very experienced and successful players: one in the past and one in the present. Will Meru be able to live up to the people's expectations from his previous seasons' records? Will he be able to adapt to SV after a long time not having touched the game? All I say is that passion is better in every capacity while also being more acquainted with the tier/metagame currently. I expect a formidable match, nonetheless.
SV UU: Punny vs Beraldo
Punny is the epitome of the lower tier soldier who was sculpted artificially with physical and intellectual strength enhancers like a mixture of American Captain and Ivan Drago. He really is the ultimate player, top 1-2 of whatever he decides to play. By his side, we see the name of a player who's gone 3-4 in the past SPL; 8-1 in SCL and neutral this year's SPL: quite the definition of average. There is no remote chance inconstancy beats the top 1. I expect a demolition of never-seen-before scales.
SV UU: vivalospride vs Rasche
This match is gonna happen soon, like 4 hours from when I'm starting to type this. Viv's first accomplishments are starting to hit, he went 7-1 in UUSD with admittedly some luck here and there but that's how the song plays sometimes. His evolution was noticeable as weeks went by, sloppy at first and as he played more and built more you could see his game improving. I'm fairly convinced he will do good this year too, but I expect the same rhythm from last year in this new meta too, he might take some time to get his shit right before going on his way to spank everyone else in the pool. Rasche is a decent opp here, and if it wasn't for this being the very start of the week, I wouldn't have bolded him solely due to viv being a better player in my eyes. But that's not just what counts for this tier atm, and while Rasche is not as accomplished as viv, I judge him as being more prepared against anything viv might bring and thus having some type of advantage.
SS UU: ChrisPBacon vs QWILY
1- If ChrisPBacon doesn't fall for Qwily's pre-match tricks, he is already a step ahead.
2- This is kind of a coinflip since I don't think both of these have any recent experience playing the tier.
3- I'm bolding ChrisPBacon solely because I've bolded every other matchup (I bold before writing in-depth descriptions) and the zigzag pattern looks cooler.


SV UU: JustFranco vs spell
This match already happened but I was always bolding JustFranco and I will give myself points for that.
SV UU: Dr. Phd. BJ vs Separation
The Doctor BJ hasn't looked too impressive as of lately, having acquired less than 2 wins last UUSD (which is totally fair, given I [one of the best in history] have less than 2 in my overall career too), but the problem is that his opp has been much more consistent in his games and has won against multiple formidable opponents in SCL: Eternal Spirit, Lily and McMeghan. There is another one that I won't bother checking and it doesn't make too much of a difference on what I'm tryna point out, which is the skill gap between both. It's come to my knowledge that Separation has a twitch where he streams his ladder games? That has to be insane effort for me to not consider. He will respectfully mop the floor with the BJ.
SV UU: tier vs fade
One is a decent player in a plethora of tiers, the other is a carbon copy of Soulwind's ego while being unable to reproduce SW's gaming. Will tier be the one to bring him back to Earth? I presume the higher quantity of knowledge here gives him enough of an edge against Jonfilthy.
SS UU: Fardin vs lax
Fardin is not recognizable enough of a name in SS UU for me to judge him by his games or anything. Going by the fact lax actually plays, he is always gonna be ahead in raw skill, talent, game observation, teleological reasoning, decision making, building, preparation, mentality and a better entertainer as well as having past experience.


SV UU: Askov vs MAHOH
Askov is always consistent. Solid player who always prefers midgrounding everything and being in a good position without risking a lot, and building wise he's at the top. I don't know enough about MAHOH/Skarph except that they went well last UUPL, but so did Askov and a lot better too.
SV UU: DugZa vs Mimilucha
DugZaza went 7-1 in UUSD and proved that he can click the right buttons as well. Before that, I always saw him as merely "the tour hoster", doubtful of his ability to win. Now I'll have to swallow the fact that my preconceptions were wrong, and now I judge him as a top 10 player in this pool. His building was his weak link though, and that's where Mimilucha excels at, having tailored some teams during UU Champs that got him some important victories (for example against Lily), that even I was jealous of. This is the last match I'm predicting and we're 20 minutues away from Viv Rasche, so fuck it coinflip DUGZAZA since better track record and everything.
SV UU: Mossy Sandwich vs Feliburn
I watched Mossy play last UUSD and it was convincing enough of a performance for me to slurp his kool-aid, the nervous player I identified is no more. He's been achieving more and more and gaining some confidence from what I see, which is always good. But enough said, one must set a foot on Earth before the fall becomes too high: Feliburn is the player to beat for him, since his playstyle is just the one I don't possibly see Mossy being that good against, so if the team choice doesn't hit, I believe Feli will be victorious at last. But Mossy, knowing the intricacies of the meta and being the now quite experienced player he is, should be able to get around anything with a solid matchup, and given that he is the mainer here and Feli's last match was in UUSD (a very diff meta), this should not be too hard of a task. All and all, I was uncertain on who to bold and this text is more specifically filling the word quota, but I'd like to point out that all players on the left being bolded gives this more of an aesthetic touch.
SS UU: Attribute vs KSt3ve
This pairing is beautiful, a wonder of mother nature herself. Only those two could have explained the totality of Yin-Yang in its purest definition. The balance between the player who you know you'll always bold because they find a win in the slightest breach of chance and the player who finds a way to lose time and again, even when doing so looks like it's not feasible. That said, Attribute is always solidly prepared against cheese and KSt3ve has not had a win in recent times playing SS without it (vide SCL II). I expect an impeccable preparation, and gamewise, a free (costing barely just a bit of time and an already foreseeable L for the Shibas) lesson on how to play the game.


SV UU: Welli0u vs avarice
Dillon is one of the worst people to play if you're a newcomer, I'll just say that. He is a better player in UU than Welli0u is in OU, so by comparison he's at an advantage here when it comes to skills: overcoming the building edge will be a big cliff to escalate too, when one is so well versed they could have anything on every thing.
SV UU: hellom vs Star
I don't know hellom. I know Star, who has always performed ridiculously well in UU, not a SINGLE season did he manage to disappoint. This is not gonna be the one either. Better say goodbyem before Star kills you.
SV UU: Akalli vs mncmt
This matchup gives me extreme boredom. I do not really know Akalli but I do not have an ounce of doubt that the best Akalli match cannot be equated to the worst of mncmt's. I don't have much more to say besides this.
SS UU: Lily vs Luthier
Already happened within the first minutes of the week being released, but I will also give myself points since I premeditated the result before it came to my knowledge. Having him by my side firsthand in UUSD, I'm one to know that Luthier is a guaranteed 1-0 every week and his powers grow considerably if he plays before Thursday. Perhaps the best (if not second best) of them all.
