Project UU Victim of the Week (Round Twenty Four: Rhyperior)

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 244 HP / 252 Def / 12 Spe
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Wood Hammer
- Drain Punch
- Synthesis
Chesnaught is an incredibly strong Counter to Rhyperior. Resisting it's dual stab pathetically easy, even if it's swords dance the +2 STABS will do pitiful damage.
+2 16+ Atk Rhyperior Stone Edge vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 100-118 (26.4 - 31.2%) -- 16.5% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
And Ice Punch without Swords dance doesn't fare much better
16+ Atk Rhyperior Ice Punch vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Chesnaught: 102-120 (26.9 - 31.7%) -- 30% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
The only remotely annoying thing Rhyperior can do is throw a toxic at Chester or set rocks up as it comes in, but there is no conceivable way for Rhyperior to win a 1v1, especially when Wood Hammer does devastating damage to Rhyp in addition to how hard Chesnaught walls it.
0 Atk Chesnaught Wood Hammer vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 327-390 (75.3 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Chesnaught can also recover health to keep stone-walling Rhyperior over the course of a game using synthesis. And it can even use Rhyperior as an opportunity to throw spikes at the opponent's field. Not only is Chesnaught a really hard counter to Rhyperior, but the possibility of spikes actually makes the opponent's Rhyperior a detriment to their other pokemon because of how freely it gives Chesnaught spiking turns.

mega slowbro

Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 76 Def / 180 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Psyshock
- Slack Off

Mega Slowbro
is a very good answer for Rhyperior as Rhyperior has trouble breaking through it due to multiple reasons:
Foremost Mega Slowbro has Slack Off and prior to its mega Regenerator as ability, which gives it defensive counterplay to Rhyperior, also
Mega Slowbro is very bulky naturally and Rhyperior has trouble breaking it even at +2.
It also has Scald so Rhyperior most likely won't stay in as it has to risk the Scald burn AND a possible OHKO from Mega Slowbro.
Besides Toxic there is nothing really what Rhyperior can do to Mega Slowbro as stated above it has defensive counterplay and also offensive aspects to beat Rhyperior therefore
Mega Slowbro is a good check to Rhyperior because it wants this defensive tank gone first.

Calcs:
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 372-441 (85.9 - 101.8%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 139-165 (32.1 - 38.1%) -- 37.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Psyshock vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Rhyperior: 87-103 (20 - 23.7%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

16+ Atk Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 76+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 84-99 (21.3 - 25.1%) -- 98.3% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock
16+ Atk Rhyperior Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 76+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 84-99 (21.3 - 25.1%) -- 98.3% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock

+2 16+ Atk Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 76+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 166-196 (42.1 - 49.7%) -- 88.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 16+ Atk Rhyperior Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 76+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 166-196 (42.1 - 49.7%) -- 88.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Check, as Gligar’s EQs wear Rhyp down before it can SD enough for Stone Edge to start hurting. Walls everything bar an Ice Punch variant, Defogs Rocks away and is immune to Toxic.

Edit: BAYB I was just doing the calcs before I saw your post lol, changed.

Lucario @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Focus Blast
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power Ice

Obviously doesn’t want to take an Earthquake to the face, but it can still come in on rocks, Stone Edge, Toxic and Swords Dance then outrun and OHKO with All Out Pummeling, thus making Lucario a solid check.

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SpD
Bold Nature
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire
- Sludge Bomb

Amoonguss doesn’t mind really anything that Rhyperior does. It can lives 2 Eq/Ice Punch after rocks, and can heal back with a giga drain or spore on a switch. The spore can be good support for other team members and but it would be considered a super solid check because the damage output can still annoy Amoonguss. However, regen gains back EQ damage.

Blastoise-Mega as a check

EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Rapid Spin

Blastoise outspeeds Rhyperior, OHKO's it with Water STAB, can spin away Rhyperior's rocks, and has the bulk to switch into Stone Edge/Earthquake twice.

16+ Atk Rhyperior Earthquake vs. 104 HP / 0 Def Blastoise-Mega: 138-163 (42.4 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO (Edge deals the same damage)
252+ SpA Mega Launcher Blastoise-Mega Water Pulse vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 570-675 (131.3 - 155.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I would suggest changing this to a check. Rhyperior has been currently using Swords Dance to muscle through standard defensive resists that can handle it otherwise and at +2, Stone Edge practically 2HKOs Gligar. It’s still a good hard check to any Rhyperior lacking it though.

Primarina can't switch directly into Rhyperior due to the former's low physical bulk but outpaces and OHKOes Rhyperior with its Water-type STAB, thus making for a great check to it.

Hydro Pump/Hydro Vortex KOs Rhyperior from full. Rapid Spin to get rid of Stealth Rock. Natural Cure to be able to come in on status moves such as Toxic easier.
Please go with one of natural cure/max hp or offensive with analytic. Also list whether it’s a check or counter

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Brave Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Gyro Ball / Heavy Slam
- Psywave

Rhyperior does less than nothing to Bronzong, if we're calcing for this one specific set. If we're counting stuff not on there, then why are we even here because I can come up with a set that beats anything, but anyways. Levitate dicks on EQ, Steel dunks on Toxic, SR says hi to Steel as well. Stone Edge does about 20% max, but Toxic + Leftoves + Psywave means you can just as easily stall out Rhyperior as he can try for you, or if he starts clicking SD you just click Toxic anyways and just style on him.
Unfortunately, we’ve banned Bronzong from this project, please redo this.

Also can heal back an Stone edge if you hit it with Giga Drain at 100%
