thats rareAvalugg as a Check
Avalugg @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 156 Def / 104 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Avalanche
- Earthquake
Avalugg might be an odd choice for a check/counter because of its Ice typing, but when used correctly it really can render Landorus' effectiveness useless. It has spectacular 95/184 physical bulk, meaning it can tank Continental Crush, especially if SR isn't on the field; and can also hit back with a 4x super-effective Avalanche. Not only that; it can spin away SR and recover lost health. Earthquake is there as an additional coverage move to catch any grounded Fire or Steel-type off guard. The Sturdy ability allows it to come in on SD safely if SR isn't on the field; and thus can survive CC and hit back. So why a check and not a counter? Because like every other Ice-type, it can't switch in on CC otherwise Lando would put it in KO range.
Here are some quite interesting calcs:
0 Atk Avalugg Avalanche vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Landorus-Therian: 640-760 (200.6 - 238.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 248 HP / 156 Def Avalugg: 248-294 (63.1 - 74.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
Why is there leftovers recovery on slowbro-mega on the calcs?Check
Slowbro @ Slowbronite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 232 Def / 28 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Slack Off
- Calm Mind
Slowbro is a simple check for Lando-T back in ORAS, but since we're in SuMo now, Slowbro has lost usage. But however, it can be a good switch in to Lando-T and can have the chance to burn it with Scald or even kill it after Stealth Rocks are up.
From Lando
+2 252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 184-217 (46.8 - 55.2%) -- 14.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+4 252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 276-325 (70.2 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 123-145 (31.2 - 36.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+4 252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 184-217 (46.8 - 55.2%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Landorus-Therian Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 248 HP / 232+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 221-260 (56.2 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
From Slowbro
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-Therian: 260-308 (81.5 - 96.5%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Slowbro-Mega Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-Therian: 260-308 (81.5 - 96.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
oops, thats fixed nowWhy is there leftovers recovery on slowbro-mega on the calcs?
Since the thread title already specifically mention Rockium Z Lando, for the purposes of this thread, you can freely disregard the Flyinium Z set ( it might be a victim later on but feel free to ignore it for now ). Otherwise, in the opening week, the set would have like 6+ moves, making almost everything impossible to counter.Just a question about this process. Should we take into account other common sets for the victim when considering counters/checks?
Z-Fly lando is incredibly threatening and viable and the hard counters to rockium Z get deleted by supersonic skystrike.
Given that, only like bronzong and ice beam cresselia are true counters (and lunatone, lol), and even those get wrecked by choiceband U-turn or knock off.
This just highlights how scary lando T is, but for the purposes of this thread, I think it's important to define the constraints or put a big ol' asterisk next to the "set counters".
