Draft Urshifu-S

[overview]
**Draft order**: Late round 1 onwards

**Price range:** 17-18 points

**Overview:** Urshifu-S is an excellent wallbreaker and sweeper, leveraging its high Attack stat, powerful STAB moves, slew of coverage moves, and decent physical bulk to punch holes in the opposition or set up to win. Its complementary offensive STAB combination of Dark and Fighting makes switching into it a hard task for common defensive Pokemon, and it also has strong priority to revenge kill faster offensive threats. However, it is held back by its glaring 4x weakness to Fairy, inability to hit most said Fairy-types neutrally with STAB moves, and mediocre Speed and special bulk. Still, Urshifu-S's ability to reliably force progress makes it a solid pick starting from late round 1 onwards.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Urshifu-S utilizes its complementary STAB combination, strong STAB moves, and decent coverage to weaken or outright KO a large portion of the metagame. Wallbreaker Urshifu-S is usually best supported by other forms of momentum and entry hazards due to its mediocre Speed and special bulk.

**Setup sweeper**: Urshifu-S can leverage its good matchups into most Pokemon to freely set up using Swords Dance, Bulk Up or Trailblaze, circumventing its mediocre Speed and sometimes becoming impossible to stop after boosting sufficiently. Its 4x resistance to Sucker Punch also makes this set hard to revenge kill for teams that rely on Sucker Punch for priority.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Wicked Blow, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Sucker Punch

**Setup moves**: Swords Dance, Bulk Up, Trailblaze

**Utility moves**: Substitute, Taunt, U-turn

**Coverage moves**: Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Thunder Punch, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========
**Brick Break**: Brick Break can be run over a stronger Fighting-type STAB move to break opposing Reflect, Light Screen, and Aurora Veil.

**Throat Chop**: Throat Chop's sound move cancelling property allows it to shut down Pokemon that use Fairy-type sound moves to counter Urshifu-S, such as Hyper Voice Sylveon and a myriad of Alluring Voice users.

Common Items
========
**Choice Band**: Choice Band allows Urshifu-S to maximize its damage output and wallbreak with increased ease. This is complemented by the fact that few Pokemon in the metagame want to switch into either of its STAB moves or take chip damage from a Choice Band boosted U-turn, meaning they are unable to check Urshifu-S later.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Urshifu-S to circumvent its mediocre Speed immediately and become a fast yet still strong wallbreaker. This also allows it to function better as a fast pivot.

**Punching Glove/Protective Pads**: Both of these items protect Urshifu-S from contact-based adverse effects, such as Static, Flame Body, and Rocky Helmet. If Urshifu-S plans on only using punching moves, Punching Glove's damage boost is very much appreciated; otherwise, Protective Pads would be preferred.

**Dread Plate/Black Glasses/Fist Plate/Black Belt**: These items boost the power of its STAB moves without any significant drawback, allowing its moves to hit certain KO thresholds in some matchups.

Niche Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers may see usage on bulkier Urshifu-S sets that use Substitute and Bulk Up to increase its longevity.

**Resistance Berries**: These Berries, such as Roseli, Coba, and Chople, allow Urshifu-S to tank a super effective hit in order to revenge kill a foe or set up.

**Lum Berry**: Lum Berry can be used on setup variants to shrug off opposing status, such as paralysis and burn, allowing it to set up and sweep.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots allows Urshifu-S to maintain a degree of longevity versus teams that heavily rely on Spikes, especially if it wants to act as a pivot.

**Clear Amulet**: Despite Urshifu-S's ability to ignore Intimidate Attack drops with Wicked Blow, Clear Amulet can be used to block Attack drops aiming to weaken its Close Combat and other coverage moves.

**Adrenaline Orb**: With Wicked Blow's ability to ignore Intimidate Attack drops, Urshifu-S can use Adrenaline Orb to take advantage of an opposing Intimidate user, turning it into a massive threat by boosting its Speed.

Tera
========
Urshifu-S is usually not allowed to Terastallize, but it is an excellent Tera Captain if it is legal. Urshifu-S is a very strong user of offensive Tera types. Tera Dark powers up its already strong Wicked Blow and Sucker Punch to stupefying levels of power, and Tera Fighting-boosted Close Combat is also extremely strong, especially considering that Ghost-types do not want to switch into Urshifu-S, as a Wicked Blow would KO them on the switch. Urshifu-S also likes using defensive Tera types, notably using Tera Poison and Tera Steel to turn its glaring 4x weakness to Fairy into a resistance while powering up its anti-Fairy-type coverage in Poison Jab and Iron Head. Other Tera types can also be used, such as Tera Electric to be immune to paralysis and hit bulky Flying types or Tera Fairy or Water on setup sets to grab that extra setup turn with further ease.

Draft Strategy
========
Urshifu-S is usually part of a wallbreaking core, forcing large amounts of damage on opposing Pokemon, allowing one's late-game cleaners to thrive. Urshifu-S can also be a setup win condition, so it appreciates its teammates dishing out damage before going in for the sweep. With that being said, its aforementioned downsides of a crippling Fairy weakness and mediocre Speed should be covered for by its supporting teammates.

**Reliable Fairy-type Counters**: Urshifu-S greatly appreciates a teammate absorbing Fairy-type attacks aimed at it and either forcing damage on them or threatening them out. Pokemon such as Gholdengo, Cinderace and Galarian Slowking are fantastic partners to Urshifu-S.

**Late-game Cleaners**: Urshifu-S excels at weakening opposing defensive Pokemon to allow for one's other Pokemon to clean up games with ease. Notably, Urshifu-S forces a lot of damage on Fairy-types, as they are its best answer. Pokemon usually hindered by Fairy-types such as Kyurem and Latios, as well as other late-game cleaners like Iron Boulder and Deoxys-Speed, greatly appreciate the wallbreaking capabilities of Urshifu-S.

**Reliable Pivots**: Bringing in Urshifu-S safely to launch its powerful attacks is paramount to unlocking its full potential. Reliable pivots such as Cinderace, Tornadus-T, Galarian Slowking, and Zapdos can force switches for Urshifu-S to come in and wallbreak.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Urshifu-S does not like being forced to run Heavy-Duty Boots, as its Choice item sets are its bread and butter. It also loves pairing with Fire- and Flying-type Pokemon, which are weak to entry hazards. Hazard removal from the likes of Iron Treads, Excadrill and Corviknight allows Urshifu-S to not be chipped as much when it comes onto the field and launches an attack. Notably, Urshifu-S scares the living daylights out of Gholdengo, a mainstay on hazard stacking teams.

**Additional Wallbreaking**: While this might overlap with Urshifu-S's wallbreaking role, a second wallbreaker can capitalize on Urshifu-S's ability to force switches and pivot its partner in with U-turn. Other wallbreakers are also appreciated if one desires to use their Urshifu-S as a setup win condition. Fire-, Ghost-, and Flying-type Pokemon have great offensive synergy with Urshifu-S and can easily chip down the opposition.

**Speed Control**: Due to Urshifu-S's mediocre Speed, it appreciates various forms of speed control, such as paralysis from reliable Thunder Wave users such as Zapdos and Galarian Slowking or Sticky Web, which can be set by Ribombee, Vikavolt, and Galvantula.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fairy-types and Tera Fairy**: Fairy-types are Urshifu-S's Achilles heel, hitting it for 4x super effective damage while resisting both its STAB moves. Opposing Tera Captains can turn into a Fairy-type, tank a hit from Urshifu-S, and deal damage to or outright KO Urshifu-S with Tera Blast. Common Fairy-types such as Iron Valiant and Enamorus, as well as common Tera Fairy users such as Latias and Raging Bolt, can easily force out Urshifu-S while threatening chip damage or KOs on its teammates.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Due to Urshifu-S's mediocre Speed and middling bulk, faster offensive Pokemon are able to out-offense it and hit it hard, leaving it unable to reliably hit the field to wallbreak. They have to be wary of Urshifu-S's strong Sucker Punch, though.

**Bulky Physical Walls**: While not perfect answers to Urshifu-S, bulky physical walls can tank a STAB move or two while punishing Urshifu-S with chip damage from Rocky Helmet and other adverse contact effects or forcing it to switch out. Such Pokemon include defensive Great Tusk, defensive Zapdos, and Toxapex. However, Urshifu-S can run Punching Glove or Protective Pads to counteract adverse contact effects.

**Hazard Removal**: Urshifu-S does not like being forced to run Heavy-Duty Boots, as its Choiced sets is are its bread and butter. It also loves pairing with Fire and Flying-type Pokemon, which are weak to entry hazards. Hazard removal from the likes of Iron Treads, Excadrill, and Corviknight allows it Urshifu-S to not be chipped as much when it comes onto the field and launches a Choiced attack. Notably, Urshifu-S scares the living daylights out of Gholdengo, a mainstay on hazard stacking teams.

**Additional Wallbreaking**: While this might overlap with Urshifu-S's wallbreaking role, a second wallbreaker can capitalize on Urshifu-S's ability to force switches and U-turn its partner in. These Other wallbreakers are also appreciated if one desires to use their Urshifu-S as a setup win condition. Fire, Ghost, and Flying-type Pokemon have great offensive synergy with Urshifu-S and can easily chip down the opposition.

**Speed Control**: Due to Urshifu-S's mediocre Speed, it appreciates various forms of speed control, from the spreading of such as paralysis from reliable Thunder Wave users such as Zapdos and Galarian Slowking;, or Sticky Web, which can be set by Ribombee, Vikavolt, and Galvantula.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fairy Types and Tera Fairy**: Fairy types are Urshifu-S's Achilles heel, hitting it for 4 timesx super effective damage while resisting both its STAB moves. Opposing Pokemon that can Terastallize Tera Captains can turn into a Fairy-type, tank a hit from Urshifu-S, and deal damage to or outright KO Urshifu-S with Tera Blast. Common Fairy types such as Iron Valiant and Enamorus-I, as well as common Tera Fairy users such as Latias and Raging Bolt, can easily force out Urshifu-S while threatening chip damage or KOs on its teammates.

**Bulky Physical Walls**: While not perfect answers to Urshifu-S, bulky physical walls can tank a STAB move or two while punishing Urshifu-S with chip damage from Rocky Helmet, with other adverse contact effects, or by forcing force it to switch out. Such Pokemon include defensive Great Tusk, defensive Zapdos, and Toxapex. However, Urshifu-S can run Punching Glove or Protective Pads to counteract adverse contact effects.

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Late round 1 and beyond (other analyses say 'and onwards' - should this one say that too?)

**Price Range:** 17-18 points

**Overview:** Urshifu-S is an excellent wallbreaker and sweeper, leveraging its high Attack stat, powerful STAB moves, slew of coverage moves, and decent physical bulk to punch holes in the opposition or set up to a win. Its complimentary complementary (complementing is two things working well together; compliment is giving someone a compliment) offensive STAB combination of Dark and Fighting makes switching into it a hard task for common defensive Pokemon, while and it also has having strong priority to revenge kill faster offensive threats. However, it is held back by its glaring 4x times weakness to Fairy, its inability to hit most said Fairy types Fairy-types neutrally with STAB moves, and mediocre Speed and special bulk. Still, Urshifu-S's ability to reliably force progress makes it a solid pick starting from late round 1 onwards.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Wallbreaker**: Urshifu-S utilizes its complimentary complementary STAB combination, strong STAB moves, (AC) and decent coverage to weaken or outright KO a large portion of the meta metagame. Wallbreaker Urshifu-S is usually best supported by other forms of momentum and entry hazards due to its mediocre speed Speed and special bulk, so allowing it to safely position itself goes a long way.

**Set-up Setup sweeper**: Urshifu-S can leverage its good matchups into most Pokemon to freely set up using Swords Dance, Bulk Up, or Trailblaze, circumventing its mediocre Speed and sometimes becoming impossible to stop after boosting sufficiently. Its 4x times resistance to Sucker Punch also makes this set hard to revenge kill for teams that rely on Sucker Punch for priority.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Wicked Blow, Close Combat, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Sucker Punch

**Setup moves**: Swords Dance, Bulk Up, Trailblaze

**Utility moves**: Substitute, Taunt, U-turn

**Coverage moves**: Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Thunder Punch, Zen Headbutt

Niche Moves
========
**Brick Break**: Brick Break can be brought run over a stronger Fighting Fighting-type STAB move to break opposing Reflect, Light Screen, or and Aurora Veil.

**Throat Chop**: Throat Chop's sound move cancelling property allows it to shut down Pokemon that use Fairy-type sound moves to counter Urshifu-S, such as Hyper Voice Sylveon and a myriad of Alluring Voice users.

Common Items
========
**Choice Band**: Choice Band allows Urshifu-S to maximize its damage output and wallbreak with increased ease. This is complimented complemented by the fact that few Pokemon in the meta metagame want to switch into either of its STAB, moves or take chip damage from a Banded Choice Band-boosted U-turn, meaning they are unable to check Urshifu-S late-game U-turn to be rendered no longer a check later on in the game. (lmk if this isn't what you meant but original isn't super clear)

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf allows Urshifu-S to circumvent its mediocre Speed immediately and becomes a fast yet still strong wallbreaker.

Niche Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers may see usage on bulkier Urshifu-S sets that use Substitute and Bulk Up to increase its longevity.

**Resist Resistance Berries**: These berries Berries, such as Roseli, Coba, (AC) and Chople, allow Urshifu-S to tank a super effective hit in order to revenge kill a foe or set up.

**Clear Amulet**: Despite Urshifu-S's ability to ignore Intimidate attack Attack drops with Wicked Blow, Clear Amulet can be used to block attack Attack drops aiming to weaken its Close Combat and other coverage moves.

**Adrenaline Orb**: With Wicked Blow's ability to ignore Intimidate attack Attack drops, Urshifu-S can use Adrenaline Orb to take advantage of an opposing Intimidate user, turning it into a massive threat by boosting its Speed.

Tera
========
Urshifu-S is usually not allowed to Terastallize, but it is an excellent Tera Captain if it is legal. Urshifu-S is a very strong user of offensive Tera types. Tera Dark powers up its already strong Wicked Blow and Sucker Punch to stupefying levels of power, (AC) and Tera Fighting boosted Close Combats are Tera Fighting-boosted Close Combat is also extremely strong, especially considering that Ghost types Ghost-types do not want to switch into Urshifu-S, (AC) as a Wicked Blow would KO them on the switch. Urshifu-S also likes using defensive Tera types, notably using Tera Poison and Tera Steel to turn its glaring 4 timesx weakness to Fairy into a resistance (RC) while powering up its anti-Fairy-type coverage in Poison Jab and Iron Head respectively. Other Tera types can also be used, such as Tera Electric to be immune to paralysis and hit bulky Flying types (RC) or Tera Fairy or Water on setup sets to grab that extra setup turn with further ease.

Draft Strategy
========
Urshifu-S is usually part of a wallbreaking core, forcing large amounts of damage on opposing Pokemon, allowing one's lategame late-game cleaners to thrive. Urshifu-S can also be a setup win condition, so it appreciates its teammates to dishing out the damage before going in for the sweep. With that being said, its aforementioned downsides of a crippling Fairy weakness and mediocre medicore Speed should be covered for by its supporting teammates.

**Reliable Fairy-type Counters**: Urshifu-S greatly appreciates a teammate absorbing the Fairy-type attacks aimed at it, and either forces forcing damage on them or threatens theatening them out. Pokemon such as Gholdengo, Cinderace, and Galarian Slowking are fantastic partners to Urshifu-S.

**Late Game Late-game Cleaners**: Urshifu-S excels at weakening opposing defensive Pokemon to allow for one's other Pokemon to clean up games with ease. Notably, Urshifu-S forces a lot of damage on Fairy types Fairy-types, as they are the its best answer to Urshifu-S. Pokemon usually hindered by Fairy types Fairy-types such as Kyurem and Latios, as well as other lategame late-game cleaners like Iron Boulder and Deoxys-Speed Deoxys-S, (AC) greatly appreciate the wallbreaking capabilities of Urshifu-S.

**Entry Hazard Removal**: Urshifu-S does not like being forced to run Heavy-Duty Boots, as its Choiced Choice item sets is are its bread and butter. It also loves pairing with Fire- (add hyphen) and Flying-type Pokemon, which are weak to entry hazards. Hazard removal from the likes of Iron Treads, Excadrill, and Corviknight allows it Urshifu-S to not be chipped as much when it comes onto the field and launches a Choiced attack. ('choiced' isn;'t correct but choice item-boosted doesn't really work here either beause only band actually gets a relevant boost, so would be worth rephrasing to what's more accurate) Notably, Urshifu-S scares the living daylights out of Gholdengo, a mainstay on hazard stacking teams.

**Additional Wallbreaking**: While this might overlap with Urshifu-S's wallbreaking role, a second wallbreaker can capitalize on Urshifu-S's ability to force switches and pivot its partner in with U-turn it in. These Other wallbreakers are also appreciated if one desires to use their Urshifu-S as a setup win condition. Fire, Ghost, and Fire-, Ghost-, and Flying-type Pokemon have great offensive synergy with Urshifu-S and can easily chip down the opposition.

**Speed Control**: Due to Urshifu-S's mediocre Speed, it appreciates various forms of speed control, from the spreading of such as paralysis from reliable Thunder Wave users such as Zapdos and Galarian Slowking (RC) or Sticky Web, which can be set by Ribombee, Vikavolt, and Galvantula.
