[SET COMMENTS]
Toxicroak differentiates itself from other scarfers, such as Passimian, by virtue of its speed tier, outpacing notable scarfers such as Passimian and Medicham while also having a Water immunity allowing itself to switch in to Pokemon such as Vaporeon and Qwilfish.
This also prevents Toxicroak from being revenge killed from some priority users such as Basculin and Bruxish. one and a half viable Aqua Jet users is not really relevant enough to mention this given most other Scarfers can shrug off an Aqua Jet anyway. Toxicroak's Poison typing also gives it a useful resistance to Fighting and
U-turn a neutrality to Fairy it still can't really take Fairy-type attacks so again not worth mentioning while also
giving it the ability to soak up absorbing Toxic Spikes
, meaning unlike the aforementioned Fighting-types, Toxicroak does not have to worry about Toxic Spikes whittling it down throughout a game and can instead remove them fluff.
Close Combat is Toxicroak's most consistent attacking move I wouldn't really call Close Combat consistent when many Pokemon run Tera Ghost and Fighting-type checks are common for other reasons anyway and is able to break though physically bulky Pokemon such as Dudunsparce. Dudunsparce would just Tera or switch out, Croak is more of a surprise sweeper than a sleaner. Tera Fighting boosts the power of this move even further and makes Toxicroak a great cleaner late game thanks to the sheer power provided. Close Combat and Gunk Shot are very high BP moves with little drawback that allow Toxicroak to sweep through even remotely weakened teams, especially with a Tera-boosted Close Combat. Gunk Shot
is similarly powerful STAB which can hit
s Fairy-types that resist Close Combat such as Dachsbun and Tera Fairy Copperajah
and Drifblim more examples are always better!.
Poison Jab can be used instead for reliability, but its notably weaker then Gunk Shot. Earthquake
is able to hit
s Poison
-Types such as Muk and Qwilifish, who resist Toxicroak's STAB combination. Rock Slide is able to hit Pokemon such as Drifblim and Vespiquen, who may otherwise be troublesome for Toxicroak to deal with.
Despite its low BP, Ice Punch
can be used instead to prevent Pokemon such as Sandaconda from pivoting into you, however, Ice Punch does not threaten Oricorio, which can be troublesome due to giving Oricorio free turns to set up. is a relatively safe midground option as it lacks the type immunities Toxicroak's other moves have, while hitting common checks like Sandaconda, Drifblim, and Scyther for decent damage. Toxicroak struggles with Pokemon who are not threatened by
Toxicroak's its STAB combination, such as Rotom and Drifblim and other physically bulky walls such as Sandaconda.
Some notable partners that can alleviate this issue are Powerful Special attackers like Eelektross,
Rotom Zoroark mentioned Zoroark due to its great synergy with Toxicroak regardless due to Illusion (you can add a sentence about that if you'd like) but Eelektross and Rotom fulfill pretty much the same role on teams so mentioning both is superfluous,
Umbreon umbreon usually stalemates vs Drifblim and Sandaconda and gets Volted on by Rotom and Pyroar
can alleviate this issue.
