Torkoal -Speed Nature Bad?

I notice that pretty much every Torkoal set uses a Bold or Calm nature. If you look at Torkoal's stats, you can see that it has a Speed stat of 20. Despite this, every set goes with these two -Attack +Defense natures. Is there a reason why Relaxed (-Speed, +Defense) isn't used?

This isn’t the place for this sort of discussion so gonna lock and redirect you to the analysis discussion thread, new threads are only made for analyses that are being worked on

to answer your question though there is no reason to lower your speed when it’s already guaranteed slower than any weather setter and not using moves like gyro ball, on the other hand a -atk nature (alongside 0 attack ivs) can lower foul play damage which has some niches in practice versus a few Pokémon in the tier while torkoal has no attack moves of any real power to care about (rapid spin damage is neglible anyway and it doesn’t even get to click it much with an extremely poor matchup versus best rocker)

feel free to continue the discussion in that thread or our analyses channel in the uu discord!
