If you're looking for role compression for your Fire Monotype team, Torkoal is just the Pokemon for you! Torkoal is one of the only reliable entry hazard removers available to Fire thanks to its high Defense and access to Rapid Spin, while Stealth Rock allows it to also function as a hazard setter. Yawn prevents foes like Mega Gallade from setting up on Torkoal and can act as a counter-measure for Pokemon that have already set up and are looking to sweep such as Mega Altaria. Most importantly, Torkoal has access to Drought, which sets harsh sunlight onto the field. This not only helps Fire deal with Water-types by halving the damage taken from Water-type attacks, but it also boosts the power of all Fire-type attacks. This helps enable teammates such as Infernape, Mega Charizard X, and Blacephalon to act as powerful wallbreakers with their STAB Fire-type attacks. Despite its benefits, its passive nature and lack of recovery leave it as bait for both Substitute and Taunt Pokemon.
