Happy Easter Sunday (if you celebrate it). I have another spicy RMT that not only got me at top 75 on the ladder, but also scored wins against a few big ladder players, including two OU council members.

Introduction

This team was my take on the rising AV Crown BO builds, but with one spicy ingredient that rounds the whole team together, Thundurus-I, a mon I’ve continued to find success with. It always accomplishes something in a game, whether it’s T-Waving a key target or wallbreaking. Paired with it is Roar Ironpress Zama, forming an excellent anti-HO core. The combined efforts of FS Crown, CM Prim, and Black Glasses Gambit tear up bulky teams, wrapped together by ol’ reliable SR Lando. This team showcases compact offensive synergy, illustrates the overlooked strengths of AV Crown and Thundy, along with a kickass team designed to handle any playstyle.

Team Description

IMG_3877.jpeg

Iron Crown @ Assault Vest
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 32 HP / 244 SpA / 232 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Tachyon Cutter
- Future Sight
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch

EVs: Standard AV Crown spread.

Purpose: Iron Crown is the team’s main answer to Kyurem, Glimmora, Deoxys-S, and Fairies like Primarina. Future Sight + Volt Switch allows me to pivot and make progress. Tera Poison was added to reverse matchups with NP Darkrai and absorb Tspikes in case of a random Tspikes Gking while still retaining a Fairy resistance.

IMG_3878.jpeg

Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 236 HP / 40 Def / 232 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Taunt

EVs: Standard Fast Lando spread.

Purpose: Its a defensive glue, its the team’s rocker, the team’s Electric immune, its a Lando. Earthquake over Earth Power was chosen to deal more damage to CM sweepers like Primarina and Raging Bolt. You will mainly be using this in conjunction with Zamazenta to check Gambit, Moon, Dnite, and Tusk. The original build had Tera Fairy, but after getting humbled by a Rain team, I knew I needed the Tera Water.

Thundurus @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Ice
EVs: 48 HP / 252 SpA / 208 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Tera Blast
- Knock Off
- Thunder Wave

EVs: 208 Speed Modest outruns max speed Lando while the rest is given to bulk to live hits like Wogre’s Ivy or a Proto boosted hit from Rbolt at full. Modest is important for 2HKOing Clodsire with Tera Ice Blast after chip.

Purpose: Thundurus-I, A.K.A Blunder’s son, functions as an anti-HO agent/Speed Control cause thanks to priority Thunder Wave, Faster Pokes like Pult, Zama, Booster Val, G-Fire, and Cinder can be crippled. It also threatens Balance with Boltbeam coverage and Knock Off. Thundy lures Gliscor, Lando, and Tusk with Tera Ice Blast, enabling Ironpress Zama or Gambit to sweep. Tera Ice also helps against Weavile who might switch in after a kill or directly. Thundy can also cripple Gking with Knock + T Wave which also enables Primarina.

Kingambit @ Black Glasses
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head

EVs: 144 Speed outruns 0 Speed Corv, Dirge, Prim, and Clef.

Purpose: Gambit is our Ghost resist, priority user, and main wallbreaker with Future Sight support from Iron Crown. Tera Dark Black Glasses damage calcs make even the most heartless war criminals gag.

Though Skarm outspeeds this, everything else on this team can exploit Skarm easily, so I don’t actually mind it. Also I made sure it was Female for the random Cute Charm Enamorus.

IMG_3881.jpeg

Primarina @ Leftovers
Ability: Liquid Voice
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SpA / 56 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Psychic Noise
- Calm Mind
- Substitute

EVs: I decided to spec into more bulk than the usual spread since max speed Adamant Gambit is rarer these days, but this spread still lets me outrun Skeledirge and Clefable.

Purpose: Primarina serves as our bulky Water resist and bulky Fairy. It trades with offense and breaks past balance with Sub-CM + Tera Ground. The original build had Tera Ghost to 6-0 Stall, but with Future Sight Crown and Black Glasses Gambit on the team, I didn’t need Prim’s help with that matchup. So I went with Tera Ground because I wasn’t liking my MU with Raging Bolt. Even so, Psychic Noise annoys the shit out of fat.

IMG_3882.jpeg

Zamazenta @ Leftovers
Ability: Dauntless Shield
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Def / 172 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Crunch
- Roar

EVs: 172 speed outpaces +1 Ada Dnite and other Zamas speed creeping it. Max dfse to make Body Press as strong as possible.

Purpose: Zama is the main physical wall of the team and Darkrai check. Zama 1v1s almost every single physical attacker in the game. It is also the main wincon with Ironpress + Roar being the most annoying asf set conceived. Tera Fire blocks burns from Dragapult and sets up on Fairies.

Usage Tips

  • The +1 priority T-Wave can save you in many games. Sometimes it is best to preserve Thundy for this reason.

  • If you see a Glimmora on team preview, lead Iron Crown.

  • Double switches are key to using this team. For example, Zama forces a lot of switch ins like Ghold, Gambit, and Slowking-G which can be telegraphed with a quick switch to Gambit or Lando.

  • Vs Gliscor leads, lead Thundy and click Knock. If it uses Protect, Tera Ice that mfer. Alternatively you can lead with Primarina and threaten Gliscor the same way without burning Tera.

  • Vs Pult leads, lead Thundy and click T-Wave. Crippling Pult is huge for the team.

  • You don’t have to click SD with Gambit. Black Glasses Gambit hits hard enough to not need it most of the time, especially with Tera.

  • If Booster Valiant comes in, hard switch to Thundy. It cannot OHKO you with anything and gets ruined by T-Wave. Even if it switches out, Valiant loses Booster.

  • If you see Garg on team preview, lead with Primarina and click Sub or lead with Crown.

  • Primarina trades with everything in the Sun matchup. Don’t be afraid to be aggressive with it either since Tera Dark Gambit can clean up afterwards.

  • Vs Balance and Stall preserve the Future Sight + Gambit and Zama. They can tear apart slower builds but don’t be reckless with them either.

  • While the team doesn’t have hazard removal, it doesn’t mind rocks that much since its built to end games quickly. Taunt Lando can stop Gliscor, Skarm, and Ting-Lu from getting up Spikes.

  • RH Lando is free chip on Corv/Skarm with Taunt.

  • Lando can force chip onto Moon or force it to Tera Flying. In that case, either threaten with Gambit Sucker, Thundy T-Wave or swap back to Lando again for another Intimidate.

  • Preserve Lando if you see Rbolt. Also preserve Tera Ground Prim in case Lando dies. Thundy can also kill Rbolt on the switch with Tbolt + Tera Ice Blast after rocks.

  • Roar Zama is very good at punishing hard switches to Booster Moth or Val while gaining Lefties recovery, but you can also use it to phaze out the moths, and Bolt in a pinch.

  • Don’t be afraid of Tera Ghost. Ironpress Zama can still 1v1 them with Crunch and defense boosts, or phase them out with Roar. Even if they’re the only mon left on the field, Gambit or Thundy can clutch this mu out.

  • Vs Darkrai leads, lead with AV Crown. This seems bad but Crown can eat a hit, Volt Switch out, chip with Tachyon, or gamble with Focus Blast. This is good to preserve Zama’s Dauntless Shield boost and avoid it getting crippled by a potential T-Wave/Wisp or Trick.

  • Don’t be predictable with Thundy and just click T-Wave. You have the same SpA as Primarina. Use it.

  • Vs Rilla leads. Lead Thundy and click Knock.

Note: The replays may feature older versions of the team, but mainly just different Teras.

Funnily enough, something that looks good against this team is Thundy-T, it can do massive damage to the whole team, with Lando-T not doing much in return despite walling it. The best option you have is tera blast ice thundy-i, which the thundy-t will most likely do in return to hit you.
But other than that, pretty good team. I love when people use lower tier mons to climb ladder and have success with it. Using meloetta rn, so I'm glad someone else is also having success.
