Talonflame @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost
For months, Talonflame has been NU's best Pokemon because of how much utility it brings to a team. Defensively, Talonflame's typing lets it check wallbreakers like Copperajah, Choice Specs Sylveon, and Sirfetch'd while consistently threatening physical attackers like Silvally-Ground, Escavalier, and Passimian with a burn. Additionally, its fantastic Speed tier lets it threaten a multitude of fast, frail foes like Salazzle and Starmie, albeit requiring prior chip damage to reliably revenge kill them. Talonflame's immense utility has made it a near-staple on balance teams, and it's rarely a negative addition as a result. Talonflame's biggest drawback is its reliance on Heavy-Duty Boots to avoid Stealth Rock damage, and because it often switches into Knock Off users like Passimian and Escavalier, make sure to provide it with entry hazard control from a Pokemon like Rotom-C or Xatu. Talonflame also can struggle to contain defensive foes like Vileplume and Scrafty that it can't reliably damage; strong attackers like Dragalge and Choice Specs Sylveon are good teammates as a result.
