Access to Swords Dance and a high Attack and Speed stat make Chien-Pao a powerful wallbreaker and sweeper. It also has a STAB combination that is resisted by few Pokemon; hits physical walls like Mandibuzz, Deoxys-D, and Great Tusk super effectively; and can OHKO many offensive threats like Walking Wake after a Swords Dance. Ice Shard picks off faster foes like Hisuian Electrode and, after some chip damage, Choice Scarf Roaring Moon and Sandy Shocks. Adaptability lets Chien-Pao OHKO Gouging Fire at +2 and makes breaking through walls like Intimidate Corviknight easier, while Magic Guard offers more longevity. Special attackers like Latios and Azelf appreciate Chien-Pao being able to threaten their switch-ins like Gholdengo and Swampert, letting them rip massive holes in or sweep teams; they can also safely pivot it in, allowing more opportunities for it to deal significant damage. Chien-Pao appreciates other physical wallbreakers like Choice Band Roaring Moon and Galarian Zapdos helping break through walls like Intimidate Corviknight that it struggles to deal with.
