Project SV RU Lure That Threat (Week 6: Cyclizar)

:sv/azelf:

Mixed Azelf

With its great coverage, 125 base SpA and Nasty Plot, Azelf is primarily used as a special attacker, with the only physical moves it typically runs being either U-Turn or Explosion on specific sets. A Psychic type special attacker with access to neither Focus Blast nor Aura Sphere is the perfect Pokemon for Tyranitar to switch into, right?

However, Azelf also has an incredible base attack stat of 125 and access to physical Fighting coverage in Drain Punch. Not only does this hit Tyranitar for 4x super-effective damage, but also bypasses the SpDef of sand.

Azelf @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Mystical Power
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Drain Punch

I use Mystical Power because I initially wanted Nasty Plot, but only having two spare moveslots severely cut into Azelf's coverage. Mystical Power allowed for a middle ground, allowing SpA boosting to tempt Tyranitar in while allowing two coverage moves. Flamethrower offers super-effective coverage against the Steel and (most) Dark types in the tier that resist Mystical Power. The final move is Shadow Ball so that you aren't completely ineffective against Armarouge and Delphox, but could be swapped for Energy Ball/Grass Knot for better coverage against Krookodile, Mudsdale and Tyranitar.

Tera Fighting allows Azelf to resist both of Tyranitar's STAB moves so it can revenge kill, since it is barely slower than +1 Jolly Tyranitar.

4 Atk Life Orb Azelf Drain Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tyranitar: 317-374 (92.9 - 109.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

+1 252 Atk Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Fighting Azelf: 168-198 (57.7 - 68%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage
+1 252 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tera Fighting Azelf: 135-159 (46.3 - 54.6%) -- 98.4% chance to 2HKO after sandstorm damage

This is what I would be submitting if the coolest berry in the game wasn't dexited:

:sv/slowbro-galar: Slowbro-Galar @ :kee_berry: Kee Berry
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Shell Side Arm
- Body Press
- Psychic
- Slack Off

since an unboosted body press never KOs but a +1 body press kos even max hp tar
+1 252+ Def Slowbro-Galar Body Press vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 428-504 (105.9 - 124.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

A set without kee berry is less cool, but I think slowbro/glowbro still makes a solid lure for tyranitar, as not even a +1 adamant crunch KOs and they are unlikely to tera vs a slowbro. Body press from glowbro does 84% minimum, and so the item you need to get that extra bit of chip is :rocky_helmet: rocky helmet.

:sv/slowbro: Slowbror @ :rocky_helmet: Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- future sight
- Body Press
- surf
- Slack Off

+1 252 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro-Galar: 300-354 (76.1 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage
252+ Def Slowbro-Galar Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 288-340 (84.4 - 99.7%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 270-320 (68.5 - 81.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage
252+ Def Slowbro Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 316-372 (92.6 - 109%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
[

Slowbro obviously does better due to its higher defense, but they are way more likely to switch tyranitar into a glowbro, making it a better lure.

I feel like Typhlosion-H is a perfect lure for Tyranitar as the later can easily enter the field on any of typhlosion's STABs and threaten to sweep in the case of this DD set. The thing is, Typhlosion is far from being a setup fodder for Tyranitar thanks to Will-O-Wisp which cripples it quite badly or Focus Blast which straight up OHKOs it. I really like WoW atm especially on the scarf set because people don't seem to expect it and get burned for free.

Wo-Chien @ Leftovers
Ability: Tablets of Ruin
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Tera Type: Ghost
Careful Nature
- Knock Off / Foul Play
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Rest

Following up with another Dark type, this week's lure is no other than Feli-chien Wo-chien, being one of the 4 legends of ruin with a fantastic ability in Tablets of Ruin, it's no surprise Wo-chien has been having success in the RU metagame, Terastillize only increases it's defensive profile, being able to shed off most weaknesses it has to common types, while gaining a great defensive one. So that leaves you with ONE TASK, Lure that pesky reaction pokemon out of RU! :psynervous:

Arboliva @ Choice Specs
Ability: Seed Sower
Tera Type: Ghost / Dark
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Tera Blast
- Earth Power
- Pollen Puff

Pollen Puff is an often overlooked feature of Arboliva’s moveset since most sets run Dazzling Gleam for Dark types. With Specs Puff, you can nuke Wo-Chien on the switch with a nearly guaranteed OHKO (guaranteed with hazards). 252 Spe IVs put you at 177, outspeeding uninvested Wo-Chien by 1 point. Terastallizing isn’t really ideal for this matchup, but Tera Ghost is nice on Arboliva in general while Dark is an option if you’re worried about becoming weak to Knock Off; you just need to be careful about opening yourself up to Leech Seed.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Arboliva Pollen Puff vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Wo-Chien: 368-436 (98.3 - 116.5%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

:sv/decidueye:
Decidueye @ Leftovers
Ability: Long Reach
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Spirit Shackle
- Brave Bird
- Knock Off / Roost
- Swords Dance

Spirit Shackle on the switch, then setup. the most that Wo-Chien can do is Knock Off like once, only for Decidueye to Roost up or Tera, then get set up on with a single SD before going down.

+2 252+ Atk Decidueye Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tablets of Ruin Wo-Chien: 374-442 (100 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Decidueye Spirit Shackle vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Tablets of Ruin Tera Ghost Wo-Chien: 374-444 (100 - 118.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

i will admit, its so difficult to find a lure for Wo-Chien when it can even take se attacks lmao

:sv/krookodile:
Krookodile @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Gunk Shot
- Earthquake
- Crunch

I've built this Sub 3 attacks Krookodile a while ago to abuse it's excellent coverage able the shred most defensive cores and its ability which allows him to sub on a bunch of relevant mons. Wo-Chien is no different, you can avoid leech seed and laugh at the knock attempt thanks to your sub and retaliate with Gunk Shot which can 2HKO. Krookodile is a lure because Wo-Chien doesn't care about both of its stab and can take the opportunity to heal for free or set up a knock off. Of course Wo-Chien will not come in on Krook right away if the opponent has a slight idea of what they're doing but as the game goes on, it will become harder for other mons to get chipped by Krook like Slowbro or Forretress and that's usually when Wo-Chien comes in and when you'll be able to set up, reveal Gunk Shot and hopefully snowball afterwards. This set works extremely well with hazards making the switch-ins on Krook even harder. Bulk Up can be an option over Crunch.

Cool yet surprisingly good set, hope you'll like it.

Edit: just destroyed low ladder stall with this krook --> https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-1928873827-mdm4b7x0o9hkxr3ql7r28h5jgt26dbgpw

Krookodile @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate / Moxie
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Stone Edge

The SV RU OG in its core, Krookodile is this week's lure, Krookodile has been a premier offensive threat from the beginning of this generation, with 2 incredible abilities in Intimidate and Moxie, a very colorful movepool, and one of the best gen 5 designs, Krookodile has dominated all metas of SV RU, from the beta until the current metagame, it has always been on the top of viability rankings. Your job is to lure this silly croc out!

Submissions are due Thursday, 7th of September, 11:59 PM -3.

:sv/iron-thorns:

Choice Band Low Kick Iron Thorns

With its older brother returned to UU, Iron Thorns stands as probably the best offensive rock type in the meta. With a STAB combination that can't touch Ground types and a 4x weakness to Krookodile's favourite Earthquake, Iron Thorns serves as the perfect lure. While its mediocre speed means it doesn't have a chance of outspeeding Scarf Krookodile without a +2 boost, it has the power and coverage to ruin the cool croc's day.

Iron Thorns @ Choice Band
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 172 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wild Charge
- Stone Edge
- Low Kick
- Fire Punch / Earthquake

Low Kick's variable power lands at a respectable 80BP for Krookodile, allowing a banded hit to deal significant damage despite Intimidate, requiring minor chip to finish the job, or fully OHKO with the aid of Tera Fighting. A Moxie Krookodile stands almost no chance on the switch-in. If Iron Thorns finds itself facing down a Krookodile, Tera Fighting not only allows you to survive an Earthquake, but also provides resistance to Krookodile's Crunch, and the Stone Edge it may use for the more common Tera Flying or Bug Iron Thorns.

The speed and HP EVs make no difference to the Krookodile matchup, but 172 makes you faster than no-speed Oricorio. Fire Punch is preferred over Earthquake for Bronzong and Decidueye-H.

-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Iron Thorns Low Kick (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Krookodile: 236-278 (71.2 - 83.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
-1 252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Fighting Iron Thorns Low Kick (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Krookodile: 354-416 (106.9 - 125.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Choice Band Iron Thorns Low Kick (80 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Krookodile: 322-380 (97.2 - 114.8%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

An alternative set is to swap Low Kick for Tera Blast with either Tera Water or Grass, allowing you to OHKO Krook through Intimidate and 2HKO other Ground types like Mudsdale or Palossand, but Low Kick doesn't require the use of your Tera, provides a better matchup into Wo-Chien, and is cooler than just "Tera Blast into its weakness".

Modest Nature
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Mystical Power
- Dazzling Gleam
- Energy Ball
- U-turn

Pretty straightforward. With how speedy it is, it's still able to outspeed Krookodile, getting the 2hko.

252+ SpA Azelf Energy Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Krookodile: 280-330 (84.5 - 99.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Rapid Spin
- Dragon Claw

Continuing up with a new drop, Cyclizar is this week threat of the week, having the so beloved Knock off + Uturn, alongside some incredible longevity tools in Regenerator and Rapid spin, its no surprise that it will likely succeed in this new metagame, so your job is to lure this bike dragon!

Submissions are due Monday, 6th of November, 11:59 PM -3.

heads up, that's not a great cyc set. cyc prefers a more defensive spread and sometimes runs av
anyways

Slowbro @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

Tera Type: Fairy

- Body Press
- Slack Off
Normally AV Cyclizar can shrug off most attacks from Slowbro and only fears Thunder Wave; even then it can just pivot out on an expected TWave. This Slowbro set actively punishes Cyclizar that attempt to get a free Knock Off or U-Turn by using it as set-up bait before retaliating with a powerful Body Press.
+2 252+ Def Slowbro Body Press vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Cyclizar: 484-570 (141.1 - 166.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
