Project SS Ubers - Matchmaking Week 10 Calyrex-I (Ice Horse)

Katy

Banned deucer.
With 5 votes respectively Zekrom by Eledyr and Zarude-Dada by FearNeverDies won Week 2 for Matchmaking :groudon: the dangerous Godzilla in the Uber Metagame. Gratz and your submissions will be in the Hall of Fame soon! :)

Let's keep it floating, right? Our next Pokemon will be :kyogre: for Week 3s Pokemon, which is in search and Need for a partner.

:ss/Kyogre:
Kyogre @ Choice Specs
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Water Spout
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder

This Pokemon brings the puring rain onto the earth and swamps the land with its heavy precipitation with its amazing ability in Drizzle. Furthermore it can break with Water Spout most threats in Uber, which do not resist its Water-type STAB properly. When it is on low HP it can mae use of another high Base Power STAB in Origin Pulse. Ice Beam and Thunder go hand in hand, as it is the so called BoltBeam coverage, which nukes most Pokemon for at least neutral damage. However, even this big whale has its enemies: faster attackers can easily take it on, the same mention goes to specially defensive walls such as Blissey. Eternatus, Palkia, and Rayquaza can also hinder it doing its job properly, as Eternatus and Palkia are bulky enough to take a hit or two and Rayquaza can make use of its ability in Air Lock to disrupt the Drizzle. What are great partners to help Kyogre with wallbreaking and which Pokemon can ensure, that Kyogre has it easier on the field?

Submissions end on Friday. As always happy submitting and have fun amazing people! :blobwizard:

Darmanitan-Galar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Gorilla Tactics
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Rock Slide
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn

Darmanitan lets Kyogre come in very freely to fire off attacks and can exploit the forced recovery turns from Kyogre's few checks to come in freely and frequently. Kyogre also destroys the best Darmanitan-G checks in the tier like NDM, forming a potent offensive duo. Darm's speed is also handy in the offense matchups that Specs Kyogre struggles the most in.

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 168 Def / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Geomancy
- Substitute
- Thunder

Xerneas appreciates Kyogre being able to give it 100% accurate Thunders and hindering Necrozma-DM’s recovery with Drizzle. In return, Kyogre appreciates Xerneas being able to break down Dragon-types such as Eternatus and Palkia.

Woops, not the good one...
FODASE? (Dracovish) @ Choice Band
Ability: Strong Jaw
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fishious Rend
- Crunch
- Dragon Rush
- Psychic Fangs

You thought that Water Spout was the most powerful Water-type attack under the Rain in the game ? You FOOL. Dracovish is great at CRUSHING anything that is slower than it, and additionnaly everything that would be mad enough to switch in under the rain. Except Water-immune Pokemon (but seriously, who plays Gastrodon and Seismitoad ?), under the rain, there is no real safe switch to Dracovish. Even defensive behemots like Giratina or Zygarde-C will fall to 2 Fishious Rend under the rain, and Eternatus has to stay very high in health to keep checking it. Dracovish also appreciate Kyogre's ability to attract special walls like Blissey, offering to it a free switch in.
252+ Atk Choice Band Strong Jaw Dracovish Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 204 HP / 248+ Def Zygarde-Complete in Rain: 504-594 (80.7 - 95.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Strong Jaw Dracovish Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Shadow Shield Lunala in Rain: 438-516 (91.6 - 107.9%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Strong Jaw Dracovish Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Giratina in Rain: 254-299 (50.3 - 59.3%) -- 82.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Choice Band Strong Jaw Dracovish Fishious Rend (170 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Toxapex in Rain: 212-250 (69.7 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Reserving marshadow
Marshadow does a great job of beating Kyogre’s checks, OHKOing Ferrothorn, Blissey/chansey. It also 2HKOs Etern and Gastrodon. Not much likes to switch in to an attack from Marsh, if it clicks the right move of prediction. Now, Marshadow’s best defensive checks is xerneas and zygarde-c. Kyogre doesn’t have a hard time taking Zygarde out at all with Ice Beam and xerneas is cleanly ohkoed by Water Spout/Origin pulse. With it’s checks gone Kyogre and marshadow completely destroy balance and stall teams.

Marshadow @ Choice Band / Life orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Spectral Thief
- Close Combat
- Shadow Sneak
- Ice Punch

Reserving Calyrex

Calyrex-Shadow @ Life Orb
Ability: As One (Spectrier)
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Astral Barrage
- Nasty Plot
- Psyshock
- Draining Kiss

Calyrex is an absolute monster due to its stats and amazing ability, I recently made a team which included specs ogre and nasty plot calyrex, and soon realized that these mons perform very well when paired together.

Kyogre struggles with mons like Ferrothorn, kyu-w/kyu-b, Groudon, Regieleki, Palkia. All calyrex needs is a couple kills to have an increased special attack which can demolish through these mons, just set up rocks and a lot of mons fall to it. Ferro gets OHKO’d when caly is on +2, OHKO’s groudon after stealth rocks, destroys Kyurem Black and White, and same with Regieleki and Palkia.

Kyogre is good against mons that give calyrex trouble too.

Overall Ogre+Caly are a great offensive core specially if used with mons like ndm and groudon.

(OHKO=One hit knock out)

I COULD BE BANNED!
reserving Groudon

:sm/groudon:
Groudon @ Lum Berry
Ability: Drought
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Thunder Wave
- Swords Dance
- Precipice Blades

Does this come as a surprise? Groudon provides an incredible electric immunity and speed control in twave. More importantly, they beat each other's checks. Groudon rips apart Eternatus and Blissey while Kyogre drowns every physically defensive pokemon in the tier. Thanks to its bulk, Groudon can paralyze faster threats like Marshadow for Kyogre to feast on while at the same time, being an offensive threat itself. Lum berry is simply to reduce the amount of grief that Zygarde can give you

And the biggest reason why they make great partners, the memes

Necrozma-Dusk Mane @ Leftovers
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Sunsteel Strike
- Morning Sun
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock

Stealth Rock chips pokemon switching in on Kyogre and Thunder Wave provides speed control.

reserving dugtrio

:bw/dugtrio:
Dugtrio @ Choice Scarf
Adamant Nature
Ability: Arena Trap
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock
- Memento/ Beat Up

Dugtrio is one of the most useful partner for Kyogre because he can beat the most common defensive answer to our whale while providing hazard support and also a revenge killer to offensive threats or pokemon chipped by kyogre itself
The Eternatus's matchup is good, since it can lead etern to lose, or if it's chipped to be ko'ed; the blissey matchup depends on the spread of the pink blob: if it's physically defensive it's not a OHKO, if instead is specially defensive it's a possible OHKO.
Pokemon Damage Calculator said:
:eternatus: Eternatus
vs Bulky Eternatus:
252+ Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Eternatus: 312-368 (64.8 - 76.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
vs Offensive Eternatus: 252+ Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Eternatus: 312-368 (74.1 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
:blissey: Blissey
vs Physically defensive Blissey:
252+ Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 252 Def Blissey: 297-349 (45.5 - 53.5%) -- 41% chance to 2HKO
vs Specially defensive Blissey: 252+ Atk Dugtrio Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Blissey: 618-727 (86.5 - 101.8%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Healing Wish

While Clefable puts rocks in the field, pressuring Kyogre checks, such as Blissey (47% chances of KO after rocks) and Eternatus, it can also make use of Healing Wish to recover Kyogre's HP and make Water Spout the strongest as possible.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyogre Water Spout (150 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 262-309 (40.1 - 47.3%) -- 47.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Power Construct
EVs: 80 HP / 220 Atk / 112 Def / 96 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Thousand Waves
- Coil
- Scale Shot
- Rest

trap ferro and proceed to go +6 on it, other answers to ogre like etern, bliss etc then wont be able to survive a hit and retaliate. ogre in return annihilates lando-t, groudon, etc.

Pheromosa @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Triple Axel
- Rapid Spin

Pheromosa works as high offensive pivot for Kyogre, thanks to the access to the rare and valuable Rapid Spin can clear hazzards for Kyogre avoiding any residual damage or speed debuff from Sticky web. The coverage Fight/Bug/Ice is complicated to handle and allows Pheromosa to take advantage from Kyogre damage to KO and pressure multiple targets like DM, Eternatus or any Dragon type that wants to check the infamous blue whale. Not only can hit hard but it can keep momentum with U-turn to keep the offensive momentum against Pheromosa checks like Ho Oh, Xerneas or DM.

Hello Hello,

I come back with a short announcement, dont worry, nothing too serious. But I thought about a system of whoever won the most Matchmaking Weeks in total after 10 WEEKS gets to be Top Cupid in this project, so lets continue the matchmaking and have fun everyone :)

PS: the top cupid will be announced after Week 10 is over, and then a new 'season' starts basically!

Thanks for reading ^.^

:ss/eternatus:

Eternatus @ Haban Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpD / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dynamax Cannon
- Recover
- Flamethrower
- Toxic

Not sure of the correct spread. Basic Idea is to chip Eternatus and Palkia then KO them later with Specs Water Spout. It also switches in on Zekrom.
