Choice Specs Haunter is a powerful wallbreaker in a tier with few Ghost-type checks, spamming strong Shadow Balls supplemented by its great coverage moves. Focus Blast is useful for hitting Dark- and Normal-types such as Alolan Persian, Pyroar, and Komala that would switch into a Shadow Ball. Trick cripples checks it cannot immediately break through such as Chansey and Skuntank, while Energy Ball is specifically used for Whiscash, an otherwise solid midground option to scout whatever Haunter uses. Tera Ghost is the preferred option in order to boost Shadow Ball's power, lessening the need to predict against Pokemon like Assault Vest Crabominable; however, Tera Blast Ground can remove Skuntank, one of Haunter's most efficient checks.

Despite its strong power, Haunter is slower than common wallbreakers such as Basculin, Charizard, and Alolan Dugtrio as well as being extremely fragile to anything it isn't immune to, so pivot support is necessary in order to bring it in safely. Alolan Persian is a top tier pivot that can easily bring Haunter in with Parting Shot and can switch into physical wallbreakers that threaten Haunter out like Dugtrio and Basculin. Rotom-F is also a strong pivot that synergizes well with Haunter, pivoting it in on Pokemon like Misdreavus while wearing down shared checks like Chansey and Whiscash. Ground-types like Camerupt and Whiscash can switch into the fast Electric-types that threaten Haunter out like Electrode and Raichu and set entry hazards that wear down Haunter's checks that do not run Heavy-Duty Boots like Tinkatuff and Hisuian Sliggoo.

Choice Specs Haunter is a powerful wallbreaker in a tier with few Ghost-type checks, spamming strong Shadow Balls while its coverage lets hit the few Normal- and Dark-types that do exist.this can definitely be condensed. Focus Blast is useful for hitting foes Dark- and Normal-types such as Alolan Persian, Pyroar, and Komala, respectively, that would switch into a Shadow Ball. Trick cripples checks it cannot immediately break through, such as Chansey and Skuntank, while Energy Ball is specifically used for Whiscash, an otherwise solid midground option to scout whatever Haunter uses. Tera Ghost is the preferred option in order to boost Shadow Ball's power, lessening its need to predict against Pokemon like Assault Vest Crabominable; however, Tera Ground with Tera Blast can remove Skuntank, one of Haunter's most efficient checks.

Despite its strong power, Haunter is slower than common breakers such as Basculin, Charizard, and Alolan Dugtrio as well as being extremmely fragile to anything it isn't immune to, so pivot support is necessary in order to bring it in. Alolan Persian is a top tier threat pivot that can easily bring Haunter in with Parting Shot, and can switch into physical breakers that threaten Haunter out like Dugtrio and Basculin. Rotom-F is also a strong pivot that synergizes well with Haunter, pivoting it in on Pokemon like Misdreavus while wearing down shared checks like Chansey and Whiscash. Ground-types like Camerupt and Whiscash can switch into the fast Electric-types that threaten Haunter out, like Electrode and Raichu; in return, they set entry hazards that wear down Haunter's checks that do not run Heavy-Duty Boots, like Tinkatuff and Hisuian Sliggoo.
