Shoddy Battle Warstory: ~NF vs. DeathScythe – H4xmega Strikes!

Well, I’ve been doing a lot of Shoddy Battling lately, and I’ve noticed that my battling skills have certainly proved. I’m also glad that there have been numerous updates; my Blissey now has Natural Cure, my Donphan has Stealth Rock, etc.

I also noticed all the feedback I was getting on my warstory. People would chat with me during battles telling me “Oh, I liked your warstory.” So I decided to write another one. (My first warstory is here if you want to read it.) I had a good battle against a user named DeathScythe recently that I figure would make for a good warstory.

My Team:

(The same team as my last warstory)

His Team:
In keeping with my own warstory style, I won’t reveal my opponent’s team at the start.

And so, the battle started:

~NF sent out Yanmega.
DeathScythe sent out Yanmega.

~NF: XD
DeathScythe: lol

I’ve been building quite the reputation on Shoddy Battle for leading with my infamous “h4xmega”. My Protect/Speed Boost/Hypnosis tactic is greatly annoying to most leads, but it has a fatal weakness: opposing Yanmegas. I don’t know if it was just coincidence, or if I had started a fad, but here I was against an opposing h4xmega. I figured I’d start like I usually do.

(I will mark DeathScythe's Yanmega with an asterisk, so you can tell the two apart.)

Yanmega used Protect.
Yanmega protected itself!
*Yanmega used Protect.
*Yanmega protected itself!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

~NF: XD
DeathScythe: rofl

Yep, I’m facing my own h4xmega. But which of us is faster?

*Yanmega used Hypnosis.
Yanmega fell asleep!
Yanmega is fast asleep!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

~NF: ...is yours timid?
DeathScythe: Nah
~NF: lucky, then

I got unlucky; apparently we had the same Speed (Modest w/252 EVs) but he got his Hypnosis off first. I was left with no choice but to switch out, since h4xmegas tended to pack Air Slash.

~NF switched in Tyranitar.
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!
*Yanmega used Hidden Power.
Tyranitar lost 14% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Tyranitar's leftovers restored a little health!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

…so much for Air Slash. Unfortunately, I don’t know what type of HP he’s using.

I made a huge mistake here though; I forgot about Tyrannitar’s Bug weakness. DeathScythe’s Yanmega might not have had Air Slash, but it almost certainly had Bug Buzz.

*Yanmega used Bug Buzz.
It's super effective!
Tyranitar lost 65% of its health.
Tyranitar used Dragon Dance.
Tyranitar's attack was raised.
Tyranitar's speed was raised.
The sandstorm rages.
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Tyranitar's leftovers restored a little health!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

~NF: that was dumb

Yep, now my Tyranitar was crippled; I needed to switch him out to keep him alive.

~NF switched in Donphan.
*Yanmega used Bug Buzz.
Donphan lost 71% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Donphan's leftovers restored a little health!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

I have no idea why I switched in Donphan. Maybe I thought he’d take less damage than 71%. Maybe it was because he had the only priority modifying move on my team. After all, I had no shot of outrunning this thing after 5 Speed Boosts.

Donphan used Ice Shard.
It's super effective!
*Yanmega lost 26% of its health.
*Yanmega used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
Donphan lost 64% of its health.
~NF's Donphan fainted.
The sandstorm rages.
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

5-6, DeathScythe

~NF: hp ice?
DeathScythe: yup
~NF: i use air slash instead

I had hoped to do more damage than that, but oh well. Now I know that Yanmega’s HP is Ice-Typed.

~NF switched in Lucario.
DeathScythe switched in Gliscor.
Lucario used Dragon Pulse.
Gliscor lost 48% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Gliscor's leftovers restored a little health!

I’m guessing that he was expecting a physical Lucario, which would explain the Gliscor switch-in. But I don’t really care about that; I just wanted to be rid of Yanmega.

DeathScythe switched in Blissey.
Lucario used Dragon Pulse.
Blissey lost 15% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!

…and now I’m completely walled, so I have to switch. My plan was to send T-Tar back in to scare off Blissey, DD on the switch, and sweep.

~NF switched in Tyranitar.
Tyranitar's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
Blissey used Calm Mind.
Blissey's special attack was raised.
Blissey's special defence was raised.
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Tyranitar's leftovers restored a little health!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!

CM Bliss, huh? Well, so far, so good.

DeathScythe switched in Gliscor.
Tyranitar used Dragon Dance.
Tyranitar's attack was raised.
Tyranitar's speed was raised.
The sandstorm rages.
Tyranitar's leftovers restored a little health!
Gliscor's leftovers restored a little health!

I get the DD off, and he switches, just like I predicted. Hopefully a Stone Edge should be enough to finish his Gliscor.

Tyranitar used Stone Edge.
Gliscor lost 49% of its health.
Gliscor used Earthquake.
It's super effective!
Tyranitar lost 53% of its health.
~NF's Tyranitar fainted.
The sandstorm rages.
Gliscor's leftovers restored a little health!

4-6, DeathScythe

Gah, I had hoped to finish him off. On the bright side, at least I didn’t miss. :/

~NF switched in Lucario.
Lucario used Aura Sphere.
It's not very effective...
Critical hit!
Gliscor lost 77% of its health.
DeathScythe's Gliscor fainted.
The sandstorm rages.

4-5, DeathScythe

I had expected a Blissey switch-in, like last time, so I used Aura Sphere. Thankfully, it was enough to finish off Gliscor.

DeathScythe switched in Arcanine.
Arcanine's intimidate cut Lucario's attack!
Arcanine used Flamethrower.
It's super effective!
Lucario lost 198% of its health.
~NF's Lucario fainted.
The sandstorm rages.
Arcanine is buffetted by the sandstorm!

3-5, DeathScythe

…ouch. I probably should have switched out there; now my CS Lucario is gone. But I can recover from this.

~NF switched in Garchomp.
DeathScythe switched in Slowbro.
Garchomp used Earthquake.
Slowbro lost 50% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Slowbro is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Slowbro's leftovers restored a little health!

Unexpected, but I’ll be able to finish Slowbro next turn.

Garchomp used Earthquake.
Slowbro lost 45% of its health.
Slowbro used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Garchomp lost 92% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Slowbro is buffetted by the sandstorm!
DeathScythe's Slowbro fainted.

3-4, DeathScythe

…why didn’t the EQ kill him? I could have been spared 92% damage if it had done 50% to him like last time. Unfortunately, Yanmega rears his ugly head again.

DeathScythe switched in *Yanmega.
~NF switched in Blissey.
*Yanmega used Protect.
*Yanmega protected itself!
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

I’m locked in to Earthquake, so I have to switch. I don’t know what he was predicting there with Protect, but hey, I got a free switch.

DeathScythe switched in Lucario.
Blissey used Aromatherapy.
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!

Perfect, now my Yanmega is usable again. However, I have no idea what his Lucario is capable of? I stay in, hoping he uses Specscario like I do.

Lucario used Stone Edge.
Lucario missed!
Blissey used Thunder Wave.
Lucario is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!

~NF: phew

…or maybe not. Thank god that Stone Edge missed; it gave me the chance to cripple Lucario with T-wave. Time to get Blissey out of there.

~NF switched in Garchomp.
Lucario used Stone Edge.
Lucario missed!
The sandstorm rages.

This is why I dislike Stone Edge. Thank god it missed, or else my Garchomp would have died.

DeathScythe switched in Blissey.
Garchomp used Stone Edge.
Blissey lost 43% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!

I predicted the switch and Stone Edged, figuring that I could nail either Arcanine or Yanmega should they appear. But instead, he brings out Blissey?

Garchomp used Stone Edge.
Blissey lost 44% of its health.
DeathScythe's Blissey fainted.
The sandstorm rages.

3-3

Eh, he was probably going to Ice Beam me. Good thing I didn’t miss.

DeathScythe switched in *Yanmega.
*Yanmega used Protect.
*Yanmega protected itself!
Garchomp used Stone Edge.
*Yanmega protected itself!
The sandstorm rages.
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

I’m locked into Stone Edge and he brings out Yanmega? Whatever, Garchomp is probably a goner away.

*Yanmega used Hidden Power.
It's super effective!
Critical hit!
Garchomp lost 192% of its health.
~NF's Garchomp fainted.
The sandstorm rages.
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

2-3, DeathScythe

Eh, I had forgotton about HP Ice. But my Garchomp was probably doomed no matter what happened.

~NF switched in Blissey.
*Yanmega used Hypnosis.
Blissey fell asleep!
Blissey is fast asleep!
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

Well this isn’t good, now I can’t get off an Ice Beam to finish that annoying fly. Switching is probably futile though, so I just pray that I wake up.

DeathScythe switched in Lucario.
Blissey woke up!
Blissey used Ice Beam.
It's not very effective...
Lucario lost 19% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!

Well that was lucky. I’d better get Blissey out of there though; firing Ice Beams at a physical Lucario won’t get me very far.

~NF switched in Yanmega.
Lucario is paralysed! It can't move!
The sandstorm rages.
Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

I hope for paralysis, and bring in my own h4xmega to terrorize his team. And luckily, I get the paralysis.

DeathScythe switched in Arcanine.
Arcanine's intimidate cut Yanmega's attack!
Yanmega used Air Slash.
Arcanine lost 52% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Arcanine is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

I still have no idea what to expect from this Arcanine, but it probably has Extremespeed. Still, I’ll be able to finish it off if it stays in.

Arcanine used Extremespeed.
Yanmega lost 22% of its health.
Yanmega used Air Slash.
Arcanine lost 48% of its health.
DeathScythe's Arcanine fainted.
The sandstorm rages.
Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

2-2

~NF: close match

Well, I was right. But now I have no idea what to expect.

DeathScythe switched in Lucario.
Lucario used Extremespeed.
Yanmega lost 40% of its health.
Yanmega used Air Slash.
Lucario lost 58% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

~NF: didnt see that coming
~NF: O_O

…his Lucario has Extremespeed? I certainly didn’t expect that.

I’m in a tight spot. Another Extremespeed will kill Yanmega, but switching in Blissey won’t help at all. Once again, I need to pray for paralysis.

Lucario is paralysed! It can't move!
Yanmega used Air Slash.
Lucario lost 59% of its health.
DeathScythe's Lucario fainted.
The sandstorm rages.
Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

2-1, ~NF

DeathScythe: Your Yanmega is pretty strong, what item it has?
~NF: magnifying glass
DeathScythe: Ahh
~NF: modest with maxed satk though

Again, I get extremely lucky. I was pretty much done if Lucario hadn’t been paralyzed. For the first time, I have the lead, and it’s time for the Yanmegas to face off again.

DeathScythe switched in *Yanmega.
*Yanmega used Protect.
*Yanmega protected itself!
Yanmega used Air Slash.
*Yanmega protected itself!
The sandstorm rages.
Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

My Yanmega is really low on health right now; next turn’s Sandstorm damage will kill it. Unfortunately, there’s a glitch in Shoddy Battle that prevents Protect from failing. There’s nothing I can do.

*Yanmega used Protect.
*Yanmega protected itself!
Yanmega used Air Slash.
*Yanmega protected itself!
The sandstorm rages.
Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
~NF's Yanmega fainted.
*Yanmega is buffetted by the sandstorm!
*Yanmega's Speed Boost raised its speed!

1-1

~NF: XD
DeathScythe: Hmmm
~NF: did they fix the glitch?
Claudeswares (A Spectator): I think protect will always work
~NF: or does protect still never fail
claudeswares: don't think so
DeathScythe: I'm not sure

Yup, just as I thought. It’s down to the wire now; I have no choice but to bring in Blissey. Thankfully, he’s weakened while I’m at full health.

~NF switched in Blissey.
*Yanmega used Hypnosis.
*Yanmega missed!
Blissey used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
*Yanmega lost 78% of its health.
DeathScythe's *Yanmega fainted.
The sandstorm rages.
Blissey is buffetted by the sandstorm!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!
~NF wins!

1-0, ~NF

~NF: gg
DeathScythe: Anyways, good game
~NF: really close
DeathScythe: Yeah

Eh, Hypnosis hitting might have bought him some more time, but no h4xmega can ever hope to beat Blissey.

It was a great battle; one of the closest I’ve ever had, and quite frankly, once I was down to “h4xmega” (SB really needs to add an option for nicknames…) and Blissey, I thought he had me in checkmate. It was pretty much luck that allowed me to win, although we both played a good game.

Props
-DeathScythe, for the great battle.
-My h4xmega, for comic relief in the beginning, and nearly sweeping his team in the end.
-DeathScythe again, for using a h4xmega; I think Yanmega is my new favorite pokemon. :P
-Me, for getting really lucky with status in a few tight spots.

Slops
-Me, for making dumb errors in the beginning with T-Tar and Donphan that essentially made the battle 4 on 6.
-My h4xmega, for not being able to outrun DeathScythe’s h4xmega.

And here’s the list of DeathScythe’s team that I didn’t give you in the beginning:

Pretty good warstory, I really like your way of writing and presenting it.

Now you made me want to use Yanmega. Too bad I'm in the middle of a Trick Room adoration.

EDIT: Mis read since both of you have yanmega. Sorry.

This warstory was.....an "eh" warstory. Not amazing, but it wasn't horrible either. Also, don't name sets. It's really annoying.

Eh, I can't stop referring to Yanmega as h4xmega now that I've started it. :P

I don't think the set makes a difference for me, it will always be h4xmega to me now.

Very interresting warstory. Some will say that it lacks jokes and stuffs, but the fact is you perfectly say what you're thinking and it's a pleasure to read it.

Good job guys

edit : the only downside that i could see is that at the start of your battle, you 2 have both Yanmega, and we don't known which one is yours and which one is deathscythe's. Maybe could you add your name after your pokemon or something like that ?

edit 2 : oops, faster than me porygon3 ^^

I think you need to put a * or something after one Yanmega to show which one is yours and which isn't, since turns where they were both out were confusing.

Props on using Yanmega. I thought the Warstory was okay. It could have had more fun and commentary after each turn. Good job on it though.

Okay, I added an asterisk to distinguish DeathScythe's Yanmega from mine. That should lessen the confusion.

I didn't feel the need to do the same for his Blissey and Lucario, because they were never out at the same time as my Blissey and Lucario.

It's been a long time since I have read a warstory that's as easy to understand as yours. It doesn't matter that it was straightforward but it certainly was clear and a pleasure to read. By the way, you got extremely lucky there, getting misses and paralysises exactly when you needed them.

S'Alright. Wasn't bad in really anyway, but it didn't really grip me either. I wonder how close it would have been had you simply switched Blissey in right away instead of messing up with TTar and Donphan, effectively ruining them (Sandstorm aside).

It surprises me you wouldn't expect Extremespeed at all on Lucario, since it's one of only seven pokes (four non-uber) that can use it. *shrug*

He can name his set if he wants to. Oh wait, it's not a Smogon term, that means it sucks, rite? My bad.

Not a bad warstory, Yanmega is pretty cool. I just tried Shoddy Battle, and there was a glitch so that nobody could switch. Anybody else encounter that?

I've seen somebody using it; I fared badly against it with my old team (considering I thought most Lucarios were of the Special Sweeping variety).
