OP stolen from sweet jesus so ty sweet jesus for the op

Thought it was time to bring this thread back.

How it works

Every 7 days or so, I will post a core that is commonly used in the current meta. The goal is to suggest a way to counter the core with one or 2 pokemon. You must then explain how your counter(s) will eliminate the core regardless of what happens (bar crits, misses and other hax forms (keep stuff reliable though, zap cannon or multiple focus blasts are very likely not to hit). This means if your counter does not counter the worst possible scenario, it is not valid. Let it be very clear that a counter must be able to come in on both pokemon of the core! For example, Sceptile is not a counter to Moltres as it can't come in on all of its moves, only 1HKO moltres before moltres can 1HKO back with HP Rock.

You must include calcs in your post !

Points will be awarded each round and the user with the most points at the time I decide to stop this will be the winner. Leaderboard will be shown in the op.

-post a 2 pokemon counter = 2 points
-post a 1 pokemon counter = 4 points
-prove another user his counter does not counter the core = 1 point

You can only post 1 set of counter(s) per core, even if your core has been proven wrong! (Don't modify your post after being proved wrong, we'll catch you). You can prove other people wrong multiple times per round. A same pokemon cannot be used by two users! First one to post a pokemon is the only one to have the rights to use it during that round. However, if you don't have time to post now, you can reserve a maximum of 2 pokemon per round by posting so before they have been used.

An example of what your post is expected to look like.

Munchlax @ Eviolite
Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Careful Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Whirlwind
- Body Slam

Emboar @ Choice Band
Trait: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge
- Superpower
- Sleep Talk

Emboar can OHKO Escavalier with Flare Blitz (...duh) and OHKO Slowking with Wild Charge. However, it can also 2HKO Escavalier with Wild Charge and 2HKO Slowking with Flare Blitz. Calcs:

252+ Atk Choice Band Reckless Emboar Wild Charge vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Slowking: 448-528 (113.99 - 134.35%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Reckless Emboar Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Slowking: 224-264 (56.99 - 67.17%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Reckless Emboar Flare Blitz vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Escavalier: 1428-1684 (416.32 - 490.96%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Reckless Emboar Wild Charge vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Escavalier: 179-211 (52.18 - 61.51%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

This specific Munchlax is not 2HKOd by any of Slowking's moves. Calcs:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Slowking Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Eviolite Munchlax: 159-187 (33.54 - 39.45%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Slowking Surf vs. 252 HP / 4+ SpD Eviolite Munchlax: 148-175 (31.22 - 36.91%) -- 78.49% chance to 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Slowking Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4+ SpD Eviolite Munchlax: 104-123 (21.94 - 25.94%) -- possible 4HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Slowking Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 4+ SpD Eviolite Thick Fat Munchlax: 62-74 (13.08 - 15.61%) -- possible 7HKO

Finally, Emboar can freely switch in to Escavalier without being OHKOd. Calcs:

252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Return vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Emboar: 266-313 (62.73 - 73.82%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Emboar: 156-184 (36.79 - 43.39%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Megahorn vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Emboar: 117-138 (27.59 - 32.54%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Pursuit won't do any damage to Emboar if Munchlax is switching out to Emboar.

I'm assuming that it's a 2v2. Munchlax can switch in on Slowking and Whirlwind on the next turn successfully since Slowking can't 2HKO Munchlax. Emboar can switch in on Escavalier since Escavalier cannot OHKO Emboar. Once it's Emboar vs Escavalier, I win because Emboar outspeeds both Escavalier and Slowking, OHKOing Emboar and 2HKOing Slowking with Flare Blitz. If Escavalier is left in as death fodder and then Slowking comes in, I can switch to Munchlax as death fodder, bring in Emboar, and OHKO with Wild Charge. Other scenarios kind of work the same way since Escavalier is 2HKOd by Wild Charge and Slowking is 2HKOd by Flare Blitz.

Banned deucer.
Nice core, but have you factored in recoil? (Note that he could hit you with a CB Iron Head, then switch to Slowking, then switch to Escavalier.)

Just to be safe about that, you should give Munchlax Toxic or Return. Just in case foddering Escavalier kills off Emboar from Recoil, Return/Toxic might let you win (Pretty sure you still die to 3 Psyshocks, though)

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Own Tempo / Jolly
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spe
- Spore
- Endeavour
- Spikes
- Dragon Rage

Pretty simple really. Both Pokemon only have attacking moves and there are no hazards on your side, so you always get in on any move, survive it with a Sash, and Spore. Then you Endeavour. If they switch that's lovely since you've now disabled a Pokemon and brought one to 1 HP. If they stay in you bring them down to 1 HP, and finish them off. As you outspeed both King and Esca you can simply Spore the next one as it comes in once one's dead, then rinse and repeat. Worst case scenario is one Pokemon asleep and one at 1 HP.

Literally facepalmed at Cherub Agent's post. That Smeargle set is my favorite thing to use in RU and I didn't think of it.

Nice core, but have you factored in recoil? (Note that he could hit you with a CB Iron Head, then switch to Slowking, then switch to Escavalier.)

Thanks!

Emboar loses 26.89% of its health by OHKOing Escavalier. So, Escavalier pretty much needs a max damage Return on the Emboar switch in for Emboar to die after killing Escavalier. However, if Emboar switches in on a Return, then goes for Flare Blitz as Slowking comes in, Emboar loses. Doh.

However, Munchlax beats Slowking 1v1 anyway. Slowking can't 2HKO, so Munchlax can keep RestTalking and will eventually pull enough Body Slams (Returns) to take out Slowking.

Redoing my original post for something that causes infinite hilarity by countering and enraging the opponent. So, Druddigon and Steelix are back open if anyone cares to use them.

Kangaskhan (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Scrappy
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 120 SDef
Impish Nature
- Fire Punch
- Crunch
- Disable
- Protect

Fire Punch and Crunch hit super effectively, no surprise there. The twist is with the last 2 moves, Protect and Disable. Ev's ensure Kangaskhan is never 1HKO'd by anything. Disable prevents the next attack, as they switch you hit the right move for the super effective shot. Even though you won't OHKO them, you can then protect to block the shot, Disable it, rinse and repeat. Leftovers gives you enough recovery while you do this to tank a misplayed Struggle, as the Ev's even ensure that Kangaskhan can't be 2HKO'd if Escavalier hits Megahorn then stays in and Struggles as Kangaskhan Hits it with a Crunch, and a Crunch plus Struggle recoil allows it to be OHKO'd by the incoming Fire Punch. Slowking comes in, attacks as Kanga Protects, then gets whatever Disabled, then has to struggle and Slowking Struggling does the same amount maximum as Leftovers recovery, meaning that it isn't winning any time soon.

Calcs:
Slowking
252+ SpA Choice Specs Slowking Surf vs. 252 HP / 20 SpD Kangaskhan: 250-295 (60.38 - 71.25%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Screw it I just found something better than Aggron and Drapion combined. I reserve Magneton. Aggron and Drapion are now free.

I need to be more decisive lol

Are we allowed to post gimmicks that do nothing short of counter the core? Because the NU one allows that.

Yes we are.

Magneton @ Expert Belt
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 SAtk
Modest Nature
-Thunder
-Hidden Power Fire
-Tackle
-Supersonic

Magneton naturally outspeeds both.

If Slowking is in, send Magneton in, get OHKO'd by Fire Blast but survive the hit thanks to Sturdy, and OHKO Slowking in return with Thunder (I'm thinking this is reliable and a miss is considered a "hax form", if it isn't just tell me and I'll add death fodder). Escavalier switches in and gets destroyed by HP Fire.

If Escavalier is in, it's easy. Switch Magneton into any of his attacks without being KO'd, and use HP Fire to OHKO in return. Slowking switches in and is OHKO'd by Thunder.

Tackle and Supersonic are fillers

252+ SpA Expert Belt Magneton Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Escavalier: 365-432 (106.41 - 125.94%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Escavalier Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Magneton: 173-204 (71.78 - 84.64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Slowking Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Magneton: 241-241 (99.99% - 99.99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (Sturdy)

252+ SpA Expert Belt Magneton Thunder vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Slowking: 446-528 (113.48 - 134.35%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Qwilfish @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Waterfall
- Toxic
- Pain Split

Mandibuzz (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature
- Taunt
- Foul Play
- Whirlwind
- Roost

Qwilfish and Mandibuzz work together to check this core pretty handily. Qwilfish can come in on any of Escavalier's moves quite easily, with none of its attacks having a significant chance to even 3HKO with no entry hazards on the field after an Intimidate, from there Qwilfish can either sap either Escavalier's or Slowking's health with Pain Split, healing itself to take on Escavalier once more in the process, or set up some spikes to limit the amount of recovery Slowking can gain through Regenerator as well as the amount of times Escavalier can switch in, as its completely vulnerable to Spikes and has no way of recovering off the damage. I usually would'nt use Toxic on a Qwilfish, but there's really nothing better to use in this matchup and it helps Mandibuzz wear down Slowking more easily if you can hit him with it on the switch. Meanwhile Mandibuzz keeps Slowking in check, being completely immune to Psyshock, resisting Grass Knot, and not being 2HKO'd by Surf or Fire Blast, while being able to easily recover off all the damage with Roost. In return, Mandibuzz can 2HKO Slowking with Foul Play, which will also do a decent chunk to Escavalier despite its resistance to Dark-type attacks due to its massive base 135 Attack stat. With some prediction Mandibuzz can even prevent Escavalier from coming back in, simply Whirlwinding it out right when the opponent attempts to switch it back in, possibly racking up hazards damage from the Spikes Qwilfish can set in the process.

@speed ghilliesniper: Remember to add some sort of death fodder to your post(even a level 1 metang will do) as druddigon can't take a CB megahorn so can't switch into every single move of the core.

Great job so far guys! I've added Cherub Agent, Molk, NfskMjmMal to the leaderboards, and if speed can mention some form of death fodder to bring druddigon in safely I can add that in as well.

Also yes you are allowed to post gimmicks that do nothing but beat this core.

Done with my post. However I think we need to explain what "breaking" a core is more clearly though, as in Cherub Agent's case both members are still alive. One is at 1HP which with how slow they are means it's pretty much dead but one of them is just asleep which can be fixed with a cleric.

Game Plan: Sac Cottonee (LV.1) for a free switch to Electivire, who OHKOs both with the appropriate move. A max HP investment and EBelt > Life Orb ensures that the core can't somehow switch around to recoil stall it. Electivire has a Lonely because its is a sad, sad battery creature thing that's stuck in a tier that it doesn't care about him =(
edit: Forgot to mention that before Cottonee dies it does try to cheer Electivire up with a bright Sunny Day, since he's a nice guy ^_^

Ok so I've decided to change the rules in that if you submit a 2 pokemon core that defeats both pokes without any of them fainting, you get two points. However, if you're 2 pokemon core includes death fodder then it is only worth one point. This is because if you have a two poke core, where neither faints then you are one poke up than if you're core had death fodder and a poke that defeats both 1 on one.

Tangrowth only

Tangrowth @ Focus sash

Thanks to focus sash it can come in and take any hit and on the following turn outspeed and use sleep powder on whatever. On the following turn they could stay in or switch but it doesn't matter as I can set up a growth. From here I can outspeed and OHKO both threats with a Power whip or a hidden power fire.

What about if Slowking uses Grass Knot turn 1?
252+ SpAtk Specs Slowking Grass Knot vs 252/4 Smeargle: 70-83%

Assuming the worst case scenario in this case (minimum damage roll), you are now at 30% health, with 92 HP remaining, so you can be KOed by any move and can only lower things to 3HKO range from Dragon Rage with Endeavor. Switch to Escavalier turn two. If Smeargle uses Spore, switch back to Slowking, who comes in at a minimum of 92 HP from Endeavor and can take out Smeargle with anything. If Smeargle uses any other move (let's say Endeavor, but it doesn't really matter because Spikes damage comes before Endeavor damage; it should really be forced to Spore though as, assuming worst case scenario, if it does something else, the Slowking user would predict that and kill it), Escavalier attacks, forcing Smeargle to Spore it or die. Once Escavalier is asleep, if Slowking switches back in, even on Endeavor it has 92 HP remaining, meaning it can take out Smeargle with any move, and Smeargle can't kill it.

Will try to come up with my own core later.

@melvni Yeah Dragon Rage is pretty much for Lv 1 Smeargle. The Smeargle here should be using Seismic Toss/Night Shade as he matches their levels anyway.

Crap i have no idea why i put dragon rage instead of seismic toss lol. Am i allowed to edit as that was just carelessness on my part?

@Cherub I think I can prove your core doesn't work even with Seismic Toss.

Turn 1
Smeargle switches in on Slowking's Surf, brought down to Focus Sash by, say, Surf.

Turn 2
Smeargle uses Spore, Slowking is fast asleep.

Turn 3
Smeargle uses Endeavour, Slowking continues to snooze

Turn 4
Slowking switches out to Escavalier. Smeargle uses Seismic Toss. However, Escavalier is now far from KO range and while Smeargle needs an entire turn to Endeavour it, Escavalier KOs with any move.

Therefore, your core doesn't exactly counter the opposing core because Smeargle dies, while Esca is still alive and King just regained HP with Regenerator, even though sleeping.

I've updated the leaderboards, and this is looking really good so far guys. Loads of good cores so far, keep it up!

Dusknoir@Leftovers
Item - Leftovers
Ability - Pressure
252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpDef
Careful Nature
~Protect
~Disable
~Mean Look
~Will-O-Wisp

Pretty simple set. Come in, live an attack, Disable, if there's a switch-out Protect then Disable again, keep doing this until you're back at full health or the opponent stays in and is Disabled, use Mean Look, then act according to the present circumstances.

1.) If the opponent isn't Disabled and didn't just switch in, use Disable
2.) If the opponent switched in on Mean Look, use Protect then Disable

After that, use Will-O-Wisp to lower Struggle damage, stall till whoever's out dies, rinse, and repeat. Dusknoir outspeeds both naturally due to its base 45 Speed.

252+ Choice Band Escavalier Iron Head vs. 252/220 Dusknoir: 48-58%
252+ Choice Band Escavalier Struggle vs. 252/220 Dusknoir: 20-24%
252+ Choice Specs Slowking Surf vs 252/36+ Dusknoir: 49-58%
252+ Choice Specs Slowking Psyshock vs. 252/220 Dusknoir: 40-47%
0 Atk Slowking Struggle vs. 252/220 Dusknoir: 9-11%

So basically, neither can OHKO, and once they are burned, neither can outdamage two turns of Leftovers recovery (Slowking can't even beat one turn of Leftovers recover). Both then fall to Struggle + Burn damage.

I am un-reserving Eelektross because I am convinced that while it CAN OHKO both Pokemon, it cannot switch into either safely bar a Megahorn/Fire Blast miss, which cannot be counted on.
