How often have you wished that a particular Pokemon got a powerful STAB move when it has so much coverage but no good STAB? How often have you seen a powerful move and thought "man, that move would be so good if it was just another type"? Did you ever wish for a steel typed version of ice beam or thunderbolt? Or perhaps you've always wanted a Fighting Acrobatics, or a Rock Overheat. This OM attempts to satisfy all those desires. The main rule is:
Example sets:
Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave / Sludge Wave
- Nasty Plot
- Focus Blast
By putting Thunder Wave in the second moveslot, it becomes flying type, allowing Thundurus to now paralyze pesky ground types like Excadrill and Garchomp. Alternatively, Sludge Wave or Volt Switch can be used in the second slot allowing Thundurus to use flying STAB without needing to resort to HP flying.
Barbaracle @ White Herb
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Poison Jab
- Cross Chop
- Shell Smash
Barbaracle's biggest problem is a lack of contact STAB moves to abuse Tough Claws with, but no longer is that the case! With powerful contact STAB moves in the form of (rock) return and (water) Poison Jab, Barbaracle becomes a frightening shell smash sweeper, and a 30% chance of poison along with a tough claws boosted STAB Poison Jab is just the cherry on top for this NU Pokemon.
Druddigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 216 HP / 252 Atk / 20 SpA / 20 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Gunk Shot / Sucker Punch
- Flamethrower
- Earthquake
- Substitute
Sheer Force users will appreciate the ability to pick a new move to act as STAB. Druddigon is a good example of this, as it can now choose between a base 120bp move backed by Sheer Force, STAB, and Life Orb, or it can opt for a +1 priority 80 base power Dragon STAB move, mitigating its low speed.
Conkeldurr @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Facade
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Ice Punch
What's scarier than a base 140 atk pokemon in trick room with a guts boosted 140 base power attack? A base 140 atk pokemon in trick room with a guts boosted 210 base power attack! Physical attackers really benefit from this meta, as they now can all add Facade and Return into their arsenal for a reliable damage dealer.
Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite / Life Orb
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Return
- Ice Fang
- Earthquake
Aerodactyl always dreams of having Brave Bird and Head Smash, but this isn't STABmons, so it will just have to settle for Double-Edge and Return. While the damage output is lower, it gives Aerodactyl some much needed STAB, and coupled with its high stats and mega evolution, Aerodactyl becomes much, much stronger.

- The first move in a Pokemon's moveslot will be the type of it's primary type
- The second move in a Pokemon's moveslot will be its secondary type (if applicable)
- All moves retain their effects. The only thing changed is typing

FAQ:
What if my Pokemon only has one type? What happens to the move in its second slot?
Nothing changes for the move in the second slot!
What about moves that target the opposite defense (secret sword and psyshock)?
They will work as normal, just type changed.
What about Freeze Dry?
Freeze Dry will be type-changed if it's able to, but it will still hit water super effectively (like in inverse)
What about Flying Press?
It will be flying + whatever type it was changed to
What if I want to use a Pokemon to have coverage moves without having them type-changed?
Put status moves in the first or second slots, and keep coverage types in the third/fourth slots
What about hidden power?
If hidden power is in the first or second moveslot, it will have its type changed
What about mega evolutions or protean?
Whether or not a move will have its type changed is decided before the Pokemon makes the move (and before protean activates, but after mega evolution and form changes)
Does Gale Wings give +1 priority to other moves?
Sadly, it does not. It seems the check for gale wings is before the check for type-changing
