Qwilfish @ Black Sludge
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Liquidation
- Poison Jab
- Aqua Jet / Spikes / Taunt

While Qwilfish is generally thought of as a defensive Spikes setter, a Swords Dance set can provide shocking offensive value and force opponents into a prickly situation! This set aims to surprise common answers to Spikes Qwilfish, especially entry hazard removal options such as Eldegoss and Altaria. With Intimidate, great natural resistances, and a Toxic immunity, Qwilfish finds setup opportunities against passive Pokemon like Clefairy and Wishiwashi. Qwilfish isn't limited to punishing passive walls either; Aqua Jet helps it take down offensive Pokemon such as Rapidash, Alolan Dugtrio, and Morpeko, making it a threatening late-game sweeper. Alternatively, Qwilfish can use Spikes to bluff a defensive set to lure in passive Defoggers to use as setup fodder or Taunt to prevent slower Pokemon like Gurdurr and Golbat from setting up or healing. Qwilfish appreciates checks to offensive threats that it struggles with, like Rotom and Jynx, so Stunfisk, Eldegoss, and Articuno are all good teammates. Pivots like Manectric and Thwackey that can safely switch Qwilfish in against its preferred targets are also great partners.

While Qwilfish is generally thought of as a defensive Spikes setter, a Sword Dance set can provide shocking offensive value and force opponents into a prickly situation! This set aims to surprise common answers to Spikes Qwilfish, especially hazard removal options such as Eldegoss, Alolan Sandslash, and Altaria. With its Intimidate, great natural resistances, and Toxic immunity, Qwilfish can also find setup opportunities against passive Pokemon like Gurdurr, (BU Gurdurr actually can beat non-Taunt Qwilfish) Clefairy, and Wishiwashi. Qwilfish isn't limited to punishing passive walls either; Aqua Jet helps it clean up offensive Pokemon such as Rapidash, Alolan Dugtrio, and Raichu Morpeko(Raichu isn't really used atm + vr relevancy), making it a threatening late-game sweeper. Alternatively, Qwilfish can use Spikes to assist other wallbreakers while bluffing a defensive set, and use lured in passive defoggers as setup bait. Taunt prevents slower Pokemon like Gurdurr and Golbat from setting up or recovering HP. (feel free to reword this since it's probably a little too clunky) Qwilfish appreciates checks to offensive threats like Rotom and Jynx that it struggles with, for instance Stunfisk, Eldegoss, and Alolan Sandslash Articuno(A-Slash loses to Focus Blast); pivots like Manectric and Thwackey that can bring Qwilfish in against its preferred targets are also great partners.

good stuff
