Hi! My name is tlenit (aka. tlenit1) and I participated in PUPL. I used this fun team during one week. I think Galvantula is reeeeally good and liked the idea of scarf Arctovish and couldnt resist temptation to use Golbat after someone questioned its position on VR.

Good luck for everyone in playoffs who are involved. For everyone rest, drop the good stuff!

Cheers!

HEEEeello!

Here are some of the teams I built for the Fruity Frosmoths! Xiri and tlenit gave me free rein and most of the pastes I supplied (without edits) won their games, so that was fun to watch for me. I kind of stayed out of ORAS even though that's actually the tier I know the most about and so I just focused on building current gen. Big s/o to everyone on Frosmoths for being great teammates and for Xiri / tlenit letting me chill in their disc as a builder. I didn't sign up in the actual draft so I could save Xiri the 3k or whatever I would've cost him - the goal here was to allow him to spend more on stronger players and spend as much as he needed to on tlenit. A lot of thought went into these builds as far as picking apart people's habits in builder each week - not going to supply descriptions this time around, as this would take far too much time. Anyway, onto the teams!

Lastly, just wanted to share a strategy I came up with in ORAS that we ended up not using:

- For the abuse of :Rotom-Frost: -

https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/grumpig.gif

Grumpig @ Eject Button
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 128 SpD / 96 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Recycle
- Thunder Wave
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
+
https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/xyani/krokorok.gif

Krokorok @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Pursuit
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

The idea is this: send Grumpig into opposing Rotom-F, regardless of what you predict it to do. Either it'll Blizzard, you'll eat the hit with SpDef Grumpig, and then Eject Button will send you out into a secondary Ice resist, or, it'll click Volt Switch (a more likely scenario) with Eject Button switching Grumpig out instead of Rotom-F. You'll then bring in a Volt stop of your choice, many of which are extremely strong breakers (ex. Sub Marowak, Specs Camerupt, CB Golem, etc.). Assuming Rotom-F is choice-locked (it usually is), this gives one of these breakers the breathing room they need to fire off some powerful STABs. To really abuse Rotom-F though, I paired this with CB Pursuit Krokorok, which lets you do a guaranteed 56-66% to Rotom-F as it's trapped and locked into Thunderbolt or Volt Switch. This puts a huge damper on how often it can come in in mid- to late-game, especially if you have SR up prior to this sequence happening.

1628469791450.png

So this combo's not for everyone lol, but I had fun going back and taking what I know now and tinkering with what's more or less a dead meta.

Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed!

Hello there! That's is the 2nd PUPL i'm playing, and this year I was part of the Snap Trappers led by MZ. Unfortunately we haven't been able to reach the top 4, but it's not a reason to not share what I used :bloblul: . Without further delay, here are the teams I used :

Week 1 :

https://pokepast.es/e59b5b6a569ca36b
replay

I didn't really have a precise idea of what I wanted to bring, so just took a strong breaker (specs sprit) and add a volturn core, nothing uncommon here.

Week 2 :

W2.png if you don't know what are these nicks, please check this, u won't be disappointed
replay

The idea I came up with for this 2nd week is Archeops + Grass Breaker (here specs whimsi), archeops forcing ground types to come and let whimsi claim souls. Unfortunately I missplayed one turn with zard and it cost me the game, otherwise the team was pretty standard too.

Week 3-6 :

)

Week 7 :

MZ forgot I was free for the last week, so I took his the SM slot over him, and I decided to bring a team I used last year with Claydols, feathuring Z Water Pulse Cryogonal.

edit: massive shoutout to chlo ojr Wanony MZ Greybaum for the help with building, even if I got subbed out many times, they were there to help me when I was lost, so thanks u all <3

And that's it ! I enjoyed a lot participate to this tournament, special shoutout to MZ for drafting me and gl to everyone who made it into play offs, (go team france go !) and see you all next year :D

hi, I played some ss games in this pupl this season and enjoyed building the stuff I made.

I wasn't in the first 2 weeks so I'll start with my w3 team

so this was my first week playing and it was just with the new shifts. Articuno-G was the most promising new drop so I really wanted to use it. I just paired it with mons that really abuse future sight well (fight spam + tsareena). I made poliwrath my secondary fighter instead of the initial scrafty I had in mind. poliwrath gave me a better waters answer since tsareena will not be able to handle those on its own and with scarf its actually a pretty effective archeops lure. then I just slapped on some defensive glue mons in gigalith and weezing. at this point I realised specs whimsi is big threat so I made my articuno more defensive to deal with whimsi. very epic calc to show this actually works really well: 252 SpA Choice Specs Whimsicott Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 84 SpD Articuno-Galar: 151-178 (39.4 - 46.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage

https://pokepast.es/f5599c6af90ce998
so this is the week where I think I fell in love with basculin. basculin is super good in my eyes since its speedtier + adaptability being insane is just really good in a tier where the grasses are mainly offensive. but initially I built this squad around archeops + whimsi since they have great offensive synergy. aggron was my rocker and steel type and zard is my grasses check and fogger. zard also improves the scrafty mu with hurricane since whimsicott is not that great as a solo check. coil sandaconda is my last since scarf togedemaru was actually annoying and makes zards job a lot easier vs scarf passimian.

(silvally-fairy)
https://pokepast.es/cfe2cbde7824ecdc
I was watching replays and saw a lot of wishiwashis and for a good reason too. I immediately built a team with it and the first mon I put with it was tsareena cuz if u can prevent hazards for wishi its gonna be really annoying to wear down. but since tsareena alone isnt that reliable I thought putting some kind of hazard stack on my own team would make my opponents more pressed to remove the hazards for my own wishiwashi with defog. alolaslash is just really good at setting spikes since it forces the main spinner out in the tier and is a great check to the relevant grasses for wishi too. sandaconda is the rocker of choice for stuff like togedemaru, passimian etc. SD silvally fairy is a great wincon on this team to put less pressure on wishiwashi vs charizard teams and also helps a lot vs scrafty. scarf mesprit is the perfect last in my eyes with its ground immunity and healing wish to bring wishiwashi back at high health or give silvally fairy a 2nd shot at sweeping after a failed attempt.

week 6: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen8pu-571964
Schermafbeelding 2021-08-09 om 16.16.56.png

https://pokepast.es/5169cb047fd1196d
I dont really remember the exact inspiration for this team but was mainly tired of running spin tsareena on all these teams and personally dont like foggers in the tier so just decided to tackle that problem by just pressuring with spikes + fast threats. the sandcastle covers the fighting weakness the offensive trio of sneasel + basculin + archeops covers stuff like charizard and galarian articuno. throh is a fun underrated last pick which makes the scrafty matchup playable and actually gives me a chance vs opposing ferroseed (which I kind of ignored in week 5 so I really didnt want to be weak to it). overall was one of the most fun teams to use with the offensive threats and spikes pressure + 3 knockers for boots users.

week 7: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen8pu-1392634580
Schermafbeelding 2021-08-09 om 16.38.35.png
(silvally steel)
https://pokepast.es/2938761877fe81f7
fsr I had not realized up until week 7 how ridiculously broken drampa is and so I used it. I supported it with parting shot silvally steel and uturn whimiscott which bring it in pretty safely and drampa generally comes in freely on the mons that come in on steevally and whimsi. specs whimsicott also appreciates the early game breaking from drampa and it nuking steel types so whimiscott can just click moonblast in the end game. gigalith was my rocker of choice since im kind of paranoid about future sight + fighting type I decided it would be better than the other option I had in mind being regirock. usually you see weezing paired as fight and grass resist with gigalith but I decided to take a more offensive approach and go with vikavolt. last slot was scarf poli again! its really coincidental that I used this guy twice but he is here again to do the same as in the w3 team: check archeops and check SD steelvally. I also was really paranoid about accuracy in this week since I had lost every game with luck being decisive so far to the point where I even considered dragon pulse drampa over draco:facepalm:, thank god I didnt do that.

I built everything I used this PUPL bar the team I used against Maki and DnB which Expulso and EviGaro built respectively. Thank you to Bag of Trixx for convincing me to sign up when I was unsure about it and drafting me onto a fun team. This is the first time I've built for myself in a non-Monotype team tournament and I feel proud for doing decent so I'm just gonna dump all my stuff here:
Week 1 vs Greybaum

https://pokepast.es/d11156ac0b3825d4
This team had a 0-100 matchup against Stall because I didn't think Greybaum would bring it after scouting him and it should do decent against most things aside from the Grassy Terrain Calm Mind Uxie/Mesprit shit and the uncommon Lycanroc. I wanted to make something with Protect Archeops because it fucks over Choice Scarf Togedemaru and Passimian where you don't have to guess between them attacking you or dealing damage. The rest of the team covers Archeops weaknesses nicely, with Tsareena + Archeops being a really good offensive core due to the latter being able to beat down Ground Pokemon. Miltank + Garbodor + Togedemaru is a great defensive core that pretty much covers most things in the meta which is really nice. Miltank is Scrappy so I can use Seismic Toss on random Substitute Ghost Pokemon like Silvally, Haunter, and Rotom.

Week 2 vs Tlenit

https://pokepast.es/f7a1c08cf359fa7c
After using a team that had a 0-100 Stall matchup I decided to start preparing for it, especially since Tlenit uses all sorts of uncommon things to get an advantage in the builder. Aggron gets up Stealth Rock against Xatu and Articuno, and Haze Garbodor prevents Iron Defense Carbink from shitting all over the team. I started running itemless Pokemon to help with Poltergeist spam and Garbodor was the easiest one to fit on this team. Aggron is kind of a shitty Steel, but Lanturn helps with switching into Pokemon like Mesprit and Rotom because of that. I had a really strong obsession with fitting Tsareena with Aromatherapy/Synthesis and having another Pokemon with Wish/Heal Bell/Aromatherapy over the weeks and it shows here. This team kinda turned out to be 5 brokens and a Lanturn but it works really well so I like it a lot.

Week 3 vs Vulpix03

https://pokepast.es/a0c5afd5155882ec
I wanted to make a team around Hex Jellicent and Glare + Coil Sandaconda since the latter spreads Paralysis really well against Pokemon that would typically check it like Whimsicott and Tsareena, thus allowing Jellicent to outspeed and beat them. The Togedemaru EVs are for avoiding the 2HKO against Choice Band Gourgeist's Power Whip after a Spike since it's itemless to beat Poltergeist as well. This Togedemaru set also helps a lot against Sneasel. Sandaconda EVs outspeed Arctozolt and Arctovish. The issues with this team were that it was way too passive especially when Sandaconda lets Charizard in for free. Since Jellicent was its main breaker it was also just horrendously weak to Lanturn. I don't like this team anymore because honestly it sucks but I like the direction where I was going with it.

Week 4 vs yovan33321

https://pokepast.es/8fd2f13697913e51
The Sandslash set was originally a meme but I eventually really liked the idea of it so I made a team around it. This was around the time when everyone realized how extremely good and splashable Tsareena was so Poison Jab Sandslash seemed like the perfect tech to beat it at +2 and Whimsicott. Other Sandslash counterplay like Glare Sandaconda and Toxic Palossand gets invalidated by Lum Berry which is pretty cool, allowing ot to sweep teams very easily. The main countereplay in Levitate Weezing and Quagsire are both beaten by Work Up Steelvally with Grassy Pledge. I really like the Steelvally set in this metagame since it muscles past bulky Water Pokemon and almost beats stall entirely without the Tricking Mesprit stuff, but sadly I misplayed with it in the actual game which forced me to play a tigher endgame. The rest of the team is pretty standard, cleric Ribombee seemed cool to support Sandslash, Tsareena, and Steelvally, so I put it on there.

Week 6 vs termi

https://pokepast.es/206c772c8f35de5b
I talked to Tlenit after he beat me in BLT finals and we both pretty much agreed that Arctovish is stupid as shit in this tier. I didn't have a lot of time and energy in the week we played the Scraggies so I just built a pretty standard Arctovish balance. Stall seemed unlikely since termi was probably saving any good stalls she had on her for playoffs as her team was already in, so I felt it was okay giving up that matchup. Tangela is a monster that just does not die. It eats a lot of attacks you wouldn't expect it to like +2 Multi Attack from Silvally and Icicle Crash from Arctovish and is generally a pain in the ass due to Regenerator and good typing. Stun Spore felt really nice to it for slowing down stuff like Charizard and Silvally for Arctovish. The rest of the team is pretty standard; I didn't want to use Defog Charizard because it's honestly shitty when it comes to removing them in front of common Stealth Rock users but it was my best choice as a Scrafty answer as well.

Semifinals vs Sjneider

https://pokepast.es/634cdf339ded310e
I didn't have a lot of motivation this week once again due to feeling burned out of Pokemon and not enjoying the current metagame that much post shifts so I built something basic that covered most ends well. This team does lose to Calm Mind Mesprit, but Sjneider didn't seem like the type of guy to bring Stall or Hyper Offense in where it would be found so I felt this was fine for covering the standard balance builds he typically relies on as a solid player with no good reason to matchup fish. Tsareena + Archeops is a pretty standard and efficient offensive core, with Archeops beating Fire and Flying Pokemon and Tsareena covering Water and Grounds. Galarian Stunfisk is underrated as a Steel; it's ridiculously fat and is easy to slap onto teams where you need a Stealth Rock user as well. You need a Steel Pokemon with Protect in this metagame to not lose to Galarian Articuno + Passimian so this was it(Gigalith under sand also counts as a Steel). Poliwrath seemed like the most reasonable last slot since Fighting as an offensive typing rounds out the rest of the team excellently and can use Water Absorb to beat Wishiwashi that is surprisingly obnoxious for a lot of teams to handle. Bulk Up made the most sense to me as Leftovers + Drain Punch recovery is hella nice for checking things long term and the Speed EVs creep Adamant Trevenant.

Overall I had a lot of fun this PUPL and I got to work with new people like keppy Bag of Trixx Expulso TheFranklin and mncmt on the current metagame. I'm happy that we got really far and close to finals especially for a team many people didn't expect to do well. I don't know if I'm going to sign up for SCL/even get drafted but I'm looking forward to PULT and in the end I do feel like this metagame is better and more fun than what a lot of people give it credit for, even if there are a lot of borderline broken Pokemon running around at the moment due to the shifts.

Trixx drafted me as a backup old gens guy/team support which I was honestly fine with since BW is my main tier and we already had the GOAT EviGaro. I was fine helping with SWSH where I could and providing teams for the old gens who needed some inspiration. However, we didn't really have a starter for DPP, and all respect to Roseybear, but they came into the DPP slot knowing almost nothing about the metagame. And it really didn't help that their two first opponents were Heysup and atomicllamas, two pretty good DPP PU players. Starting week 3, I tried to build most of my own teams, with a little help from Trixx and Expulso (and one week with help from Drud). I'm feeling pretty okay with going 3-3 when I know the pool was full of a ton of other strong players.

Week 3: Replay vs JabbaTheGriffin (W)
This team was made to be pretty safe. You can see the easy Tangela+Muk defensive core, also having a bulky set up Missy wincon and Scarf Gabite as a revenge killer. Metang was a nice secondary Victreebel check and the real fun mon on this team was Electabuzz. The set was to beat rockers like Rhydon and Relicanth while also setting up a sub on a potential Murkrow or SD Victreebel Sucker Punch. The team ended up not working exactly as intended, but Electabuzz was still able to severely weaken a Bellossom to put it in range later, live a hit from Scarf Missy, and end. up sweeping the game even when it looked like I was on the back foot a majority of the time. Turn 29 of this game will go down in my book as one of the craziest plays I've ever made that actually worked out.

Week 4: Replay vs GeneralAnnoyance (L)
I take full responsibility for this loss. We made this team as an attempt to counter-team the stuff that GA had been bringing in past weeks. Lapras had. an insane matchup vs his first 3 teams, and we thought pairing it with Spikes would help pressure the team even more since the only immunes he had used were Mantine, Misdreavus (both of which are usually beaten by Lapras), and Murkrow (who wouldn't be able to switch into anything reliably and got easily worn down). Unfortunately, this team has an insane Sneasel weakness, which I even discovered during some tests. However, I was so sure that GA wouldn't bring something like Sneasel based on his past teams that I didn't even feel like planning for it. Of course GA loads up a CB Sneasel team and it wrecks house, but I still thought this team was fun!

Week 5: Replay vs Aliss (W)
This team may have been one of the harder ones to come up with. This week I was going on vacation from Wednesday to Sunday so we had to play early in the week, only a couple of days to prep. Not to mention I had been doing a lot of my testing with Drud and since we played his team this week, I had to do a little more rigorous work in the teambuilder. We started out building around CB Armaldo lead, just as a big middle finger to the Purugly and Metang leads Aliss had used. We worked and tinkered all the way until Tuesday night, ~12 hours before the game. I felt really weird with the team so I scrapped it and asked if anyone had anything with Monferno which Trixx did. So I really didn't actually build this team but it started with a Whiscash over the Tangela which we changed to have a Ground-resist. CB Gabite really did the same thing as our Armaldo idea, just with more Speed and less of an edge over Purugly leads. Sub CM Golduck is normally not something I would consider using but in this game it did so much work since Aliss didn't have an actual Water-resist.

Week 6: Replay vs Raichy (L)
Really wanted to use a more fun mon this week and Seviper seemed like the perfect pick. Easy ability to go mixed, tons of coverage, Sucker Punch, and it had a really good matchup vs all of the teams the Scraggies had used so far. The spread hit enough to outpace max Speed Adamant Relicanth, Attack to OHKO both Xatu and Missy with Sucker Punch while also 2HKOing Muk and Metang. The Metang outpaced 0 Speed Ampharos and lived a Heat Wave from Xatu after Stealth Rock, it was meant to be the guaranteed Psychic check since they had brought 2 Kadabras and 2 Xatus. Finally, the Politoed had enough Defense to live 2 Thunder Punches from Magmar. I really tried to out offense the offense that I knew they were likely bringing but the team matched up really poorly against Electabuzz after Purugly got taken out. This version of the team has Expert Belt Purugly to ensure that Missy dies to Shadow Claw but the original version had Lum Berry to beat it if it Wisped. Still a very fun team to use, and I only wish Seviper could've seen more of the spotlight during the game.

Week 7: Replay vs HSOWA (W)
This was an edited team that Drud passed me. Scarf Glalie as a lead seems weird, but getting a guaranteed Spike up vs most leads or even a possible boom vs stuff like Magmar early game is huge. I really wanted to use Spikes since HSOWA only had used like Flying/Levitate mons in the whole tour up to this point. The rest of the team is pretty standard and self-explanatory. Managed to pull out a win thanks to HSOWA's Whiscash being the exact perfect set I needed it to be to not lose, if it had been Adamant or holding a Life Orb instead, I would've lost. Granted, I wouldn't have been in that position in the first place if I hadn't missed a Fire Blast but it was still a good and fun game to play.

Semis: Replay vs Skysolo/The Strap (L)
This week I was planning on using a team with Choice Band Slaking for no reason other than I thought it would be fun. Unfortunately, I couldn't really decide on how I wanted the team to look and feel so instead I reused the week 1 team since it felt so safe. Ended up getting destroyed with no contest lmao.

Here's the team I was going to use if you really want to see it but I go not recommend you use it for anything other than wanting to use Slaking.

S/O to all the Rends (too many of you to list) especially Bag of Trixx for drafting me again and keeping such a good team environment.
My man Drud who helped me get a lot better at DPP this year, you might still beat me 90% of the time but I think I'm slowly making it closer to 89%.

Fun PUPL, let's do it again next year
