(As a foreign observer) the American right is more united by antisocial behaviour than any common principle. Transgression of social norms has become an ends unto itself, to the point that the mainstream right values ethical corruption. The people who paradoxically call themselves "conservatives" now feel an entitlement to preferential treatment in all sorts of social settings, often exemptions to laws, general rules of social spaces, and rules of digital spaces.
One obvious example is the 1/6 attack on the US Capitol, which saw rioters and their supporters demand legal immunity for perpetrators of an attack on the Constitutional order of the United States. I see it elsewhere too, though. There was recently a big confrontation between Wikipedia staff over one admin basically suggesting that (American) conservatives should be exempt from sourcing policies. And they had done so as part of an effort to derail disciplinary hearings over another user that was repeatedly trying to exempt themselves from policies.
Another space where this is happening is in universities. Where I live, there are several campus "free speech" organisations suing journalists (including other students!) or otherwise threatening SLAPP suits to censor reporting on their activities. Several have also been campaigning for the provincial government to make funding for universities contingent on their willingness to lend credence to extremists and crackpots favoured by the government... because "free speech" means the government tells you what to say.
To say Their Cruelty Is The Point only criticises part of a wider range of degenerate behaviour. The racism, the willingness to lie during a crisis, the embrace of serial predators are all symptomatic of a movement that lacks any values beyond transgression.
