Pet Mods : General Thread

"To simply accept is weak, to challenge yourself and change, is truly brave"
So here it is after ages of boasting about it in the rules, a thread for pet mods!

What makes something a 'pet mod'?
- It's simple - any metagame with mostly custom changes (such as Molk's Dad or "make every Pokemon OU worthy" (like DuskMod and Joimmons, to give a better picture) metagames) classifies as a pet mod and should be posted here

Thread specific rules:
- While all metagames must be approved the normal way, if your metagame is denoted as a pet mod, it must be posted here instead of in the forum.
- This thread will also serve as a discussion thread - there will be a list of metagames kept in ths OP.

List of Pet Mods:
- Kalos 2 - Me
- Project Balanced Metagame - Redolent
- Brokemons - simsims2800

Nice! I'd say what I thought... if I knew what was going on! I'm sorry, i'm still fairly new to Smogon, so that may be why I don't understand it. When you get the time, PM me an In-Depth Explaination (and yes, I doble read the thread, but still don't understand it completely).

No problem, you can check out some of the threads like duskmod to figure this out, but to have it in this thread explained in the 3rd post should help make this more public and clear: By custom changes, it means custom additions to pokemon made by no rules at all with complete picking upon the user, OMs like sketchmons are not pet mods because the rules apply to all pokemon, while in pet mods, the modder/changer could give cresselia dragon/poison typing with protean and 165 base special attack, shell smash and stored power with 0 or little intention for this to apply to all other pokemon. If you were more confused of what a "custom change" means, it means to give a pokemon something to customize it from a new ability to new stats, the possibilities are endless! (Unless you're duskmod, in that case they end in like 2 days lol)

Kalos 2.0

Kalos 2.0 is a game mod made to push the limits of what a game mod "is", how far a game mod can go, and see how far and big we can take this thing, and how big a community project can be.

There are some tiers of course, to divide such a large project and make it much more easy to play without learning something every 2 seconds, so here they are:

Kalos 2 Tiers:
  • Kalos 2 BH (why not explore EVERY combo this meta has to offer?)
  • Kalos 2 LC (THIS META IS ABSORBABLE, I mean, adorable)
  • Kalos 2 OU(standard OU strong fest, nothing to see here)
  • Kalos 2 Ubers(nice strong AV ho-oh to check them special destruction form yveltals)

Every game mods gotta tell you what the they changed, in short, so here's the change log(be warned this is like 2x a wailord long):

ORGANIZATION STYLE
  • [NEW]- New or unconfirmed item/pokemon/move/ability added in by me

  • [REVISION]- A complete revamp or complete change to the concept or general data of a pokemon

  • [UPGRADE]- Upgrading a pokemon/item/move/ability to make it better at what used to do

  • [NERF]- A well needed nerf to an OP pokemon, item, or other thing

!!! CHALLENGER APPROACHING !!!
~~ New Weather: Tornado ~~

Yes you heard me right, a whole new weather! This weather is called tornado, so lets take a look at what it does, shall we?
  • Make hurricane 100% accurate
  • Boost flying moves by 1.5x
  • Decrease electric moves by 0.5x
  • Is caused by an abillity called wind speed and has no move to induce it
  • Has an item called gale feather that makes it last for 8 turns instead of 5
So basically, it's like raindance without thunder and with electric types falling at the cost of flying types benefitting instead of the water-fire kinda deal.

So, who are the users you ask?

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Life Orb / Gale Feather
Ability: Wind Speed
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 Atk
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Focus Blast / Superpower
- Knock Off

Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Wind Speed || Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Defog / U-turn
(Aerodactyl gets uturn now!)

Skarmory @ Leftovers / Gale Feather
Ability: Wind Speed
EVs: 252 SDef or Def / 252 HP / 4 Def or Sdef
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Stealth Rock / Taunt
- Spikes / Defog

So, looking at the 3 wind speed users (skarm gets wind speed over keen eye, aero gets it over unnerve and tornadus-t gets it over regenerator), we can see how diverse the learners alone are. Tornadus-T is probably the one that sticks out the most- Access to knock off, hurricane, and a plethora of coverage. However the rest are not to be ignored. Aero can use his new combo of brave bird, u-turn, and wind speed to set up wind speed once and mega up dealing massive damage with tough claws tornado brave bird, he can also be supportive and use defog to great success (which also makes stone edge hit the opponent 100% of the time due to the evasion drop!). Skarmory, the most defensive user of wind speed, is no joke to deal with. A sdef set is recommended to take advantage of thunderbolt failing to hit it for /that/ much damage letting it hazard the field, or ever support anti hazards with defog and taunt.

Also VERY IMPORTANT FOR POWER THAT WANT TO USE STUFF TAGGED WITH [NEW]
(for additions like play rough pangoro even though it says illegal in the teambuilder just use it and challenge with it in the format, it will work)This is how you use them:
1) Go to the import/export tab in the teambuilder
2) If it's something like making a hoopa do "Hoopa @ leftovers" or something, please note the EVs and IVs of the new pokemon such as arceus god need to be added through import/export as well
3) If it's a new mega stone or item jsut do something like "Chesnaught @ Tie Breaker Orb" or "Latias @ Latite-Red"
4) If it's a new move like volcanion's steam cannon just do "-Steam Cannon"

I hope this miniguide cleared up this

we also have forums, for analysis and idea submissions and tournament hosting, just incase we need people to get into the meta with analysis, probably not going to advertise this much, this is also the place for policy discussion by the kalos 2 leaders/creators:
DreMZ (The Reptile )
Myself
Spartan Malice(SpartanMalice )
Leafshield(Leafshield )
Magolor (Magolor )
Adrian Marin (Adrian Marin )
Nollan (Nollan )
and
Keep It Playful (Keep it Playful )

Kalos 2 has another forum for posting viability rankings and discussing viability of these pokemon in the meta (since createaforum won't let us post over 2,000 word posts and the viability rankings involve doing that: http://kalos2viability.boards.net/thread/2/kalos-2-ou-viability-rankings )

We also now have a forum
Overall I hope you have fun playing the wonderful pet mod, kalos 2.0!~~

Hey guys. I'm working on a big project at the moment that is intended as a sort of collaborative mod, so it's not really a "pet mod", but I've still been advised by Arcticblast that this would be the thread to put it in. Not got an official name for it yet, for now I've been calling it Project Balanced Metagame. It will be a few weeks before I can put up a proper description, and I'll need to get that officially approved, but for now I am just going to post a preview and see what people think.

This metagame aims to satisfy as many people as possible, and in order to do that it is committed to accessibility to players of the current XY OU metagame. Players are often put off mod metagames because they change how the game works instead of the Pokémon themselves, meaning they can be difficult to adapt to for normal players. Though a large number of Pokémon will receive changes (generally speaking this may mean a couple of new moves, or sometimes a new ability or slight stat change), the game's mechanics stay the same. Types still work the same way, and moves, abilities and Pokémon's types are overwhelmingly exactly the same as before.

Conceptually it's quite simple. The main aim of the project is to make less viable Pokémon more usable in the standard metagame, while staying true to the original concepts of the Pokémon. This means no changes to Pokémon that don't make sense - no giving Delibird the same stats as Garchomp, for example, and no giving a Pokémon like Meganium an ability like Flash Fire. Only Pokémon below OU level would be changed. Theoretically this means, if this metagame achieves its goals, you could go into it with the very same team you use in standard OU and still perform well. That is not to say there won't be a large number of improvements to other Pokémon that would make them worth considering instead.

I have included a list of a few of the changes below, I hope people will agree that they could lead to a more enjoyable and diverse metagame. Remember that as it is a collaborative project no changes are set in stone, and anything could change according to the consensus of players interested in the project.

A few example changes:

Articuno - Snow Warning

Cacturne - Prankster, Taunt (Destiny Bond removed for balance)

Camerupt - Improved bulk, Slack Off

Carnivine - Arena Trap (Sleep Powder removed for balance)

Dodrio - Adaptability

Dusknoir - Bulk Up, Drain Punch, (Shed Skin?)

Electrode - Motor Drive, Energy Ball, Nasty Plot

Farfetch'd - Sniper, Super Luck

Flareon - Fur Coat

Flygon - Dragon Dance

Golurk – Zap Cannon

Heatmor - No Guard, Focus Blast

Jynx - Quiver Dance

Krookodile - Strong Jaw, Dragon Dance

Lanturn - Wish

Luvdisc - Prankster, Lovely Kiss, Heart Swap

Moltres - Drought

Pidgeot - Gale Wings

Poliwrath – Drain Punch

Rapidash - Base Speed 130

Regice/Registeel - Filter/Regenerator

Regirock - Solid Rock/Regenerator

Regigigas – Curse, Protect, Rest, Sleep Talk, various others

Samurott – Lightningrod

Seismitoad – Poison Heal, Bulk Up, Waterfall

Seviper - Strong Jaw

Shuckle - Poison Heal

Slowking – King's Shield

Snorlax - Slack Off

Spiritomb - Intimidate, Whirlwind

Steelix – Coil, Glare, Iron Barbs

Stunfisk - Water Absorb, Slack Off

Torterra - Shell Smash

Unown – Wonder Guard

Victreebel - Arena Trap (Sleep Powder removed for balance)

Zygarde - Recover

De-Ubered:

Blaziken & Mega Blaziken - Reckless replaces Speed Boost
Mega Gengar - Levitate replaces Shadow Tag
Kangaskhan - Removed: Crunch, Seismic Toss, Sucker Punch
Shaymin-S – Natural Cure replaces Serene Grace

Ability changes:

Forecast - Now doubles the Pokémon's Special Attack when weather is in effect.

Move changes:

Howl - Now raises Attack by two stages instead of one. (Notable learners: Arcanine, Entei, Luxray, Mightyena, Stoutland)

Meditate - Now raises Attack by two stages instead of one. (Notable learners: Hitmonlee, Medicham, Mienshao, Machamp, Electivire)

Some of these Pokémon have more proposed movepool and stat changes in addition to what is mentioned here.

So far I am the only person who has worked on this and I can count the number of people who know about it on one hand, so I'm curious to see what people think of the idea. General thoughts, moveset ideas, change suggestions, it's all welcome. Additionally any help people can offer will be appreciated. Admittedly I don't run a server or have programming knowledge, so this would only be playable if people are really interested in it - please don't hesitate to say so if you are! Thanks.

Hey guys. I'm working on a big project at the moment that is intended as a sort of collaborative mod, so it's not really a "pet mod", but I've still been advised by Arcticblast that this would be the thread to put it in. Not got an official name for it yet, for now I've been calling it Project Balanced Metagame. This honestly looks fantastic man, I'm really wondering how most of these changes would turn out. When this is done I'd be happy to implement it on my server.

This looks pretty cool, and I'd definitely be up for playing this once it's done.

Ok my port forwarding somehow went down (thanks comcast) and because of all this BS this router has been putting me through, I'm getting a new router to host!.... On friday, so if I get this router working from wednesday & thursday, great! if not we'll all just have to wait to play it again for a bit, theorymon is very much appreciated though, I love discussion ^_^

on the bright side, Kalos 2 has another forum for posting viability rankings and discussing viability of these pokemon in the meta (since createaforum won't let us post over 2,000 word posts and the viability rankings involve doing that: http://kalos2viability.boards.net/thread/2/kalos-2-ou-viability-rankings )

Thanks, I really appreciate this. Just will need to figure out the programming side at some point first. Probably worth pointing out there are quite a lot of other changes that haven't been mentioned there, and maybe even more soon as I'm inviting people to chip in ideas of their own.

Really glad to hear it, I'll keep you updated. :)

You guys are welcome to suggest a couple things of your own, if you like.

I've always thought that the ability Simple had a lot of potential, let down by the fact that none of the users of it have good stats, or any variety of moves to abuse it with. Thus, I would really like it if Swoobat and Bibarel got access to some more boosting moves. Maybe Cosmic Power and Nasty Plot for Swoobat, and Swords Dance for Bibarel. I think this would make them both a bit more viable in OU. Also, maybe if some other Pokemon got Simple?

UPDATE: My server is now working, I did not get a new router but my port forwarding is enabled, go have fun gais :]

Never used Greninja in Kalos 2.0 but how was it broken? It seemed nerfed without Protean to me. Most of these bans don't seem worthy enough to me. Celebi, the MegaZards, Rhydon, Shaymin and Mew in particular.

Well it was the decision of the only community I could get, especially some of the leaders like leafshield and asterat were begging for some of these bans

edit: I've said this before, it's not my game mod, it's a community game mod. So if there are enough people wanting things to go back to the way they are, post here or post in the server if you want, but this is the only decision making I can get currently, I trust the opinions of the community

EDIT 2: Sims and Jaguar kinda are convincing me to take this ban process slow and other stuff and to reverse all of this, so, sorry about this mess, but thanks for sticking through this *half *hour of annoyance

Sorry for the double post but I just want to announce that I'm starting work on a game mod.
It is called...

BROKEMONS

If it ain't broken, make it that way!

What is Brokemons, you ask? Brokemons is my pet project. I canceled it for a while because it wasn't getting any changes, but now I’m starting it anew because of XY’s additions, buffs, nerfs, and the like.

GOAL: To make every Pokemon broken in a way that actually ends up balancing the metagame. (If everything's broken, then nothing will be centralizing, everything will have a niche, and by extension nothing will be broken!) Will it ever be programmed? Probably not. Is it fun to break things? Yes. Is it fun to speculate and theorymon about Brokemons? Of course!

This mod will be a community mod. No changes to ANYTHING (Pokemon, moves, abilities, game mechanics) have been made just yet. I will be the guy who makes final decisions on most changes, but ANYONE can suggest a change. You can suggest changes at this PiratePad. All changes will eventually go into this pastebin.

There ARE a few rules when it comes to changes, however.
  1. The changes have to be semi-reasonable. No Flash Fire Ferrothorn or Water Absorb Heatran. Respect flavor.
  2. Try to keep Base Stat totals around 600.
  3. NO MEGAS. The base forms are broken enough.
  4. All change posts on the PiratePad must follow this format:
Pokemon
Primary type/secondary type (if necessary)
HP/Attack/Defense/Special Attack/Special Defense/Speed (BST: xxx)
Ability 1/Ability 2/Hidden Ability (DW)
Movepool: +Move, +Move, +Move, +Move

Let's say I wanted to buff Mew. This is how I'd do it (of course, you don't have to suggest this buff for Mew, this is just an example)

Mew
Psychic/Fairy
105
/105/105/105/105/105 (BST: 630)
Magic Guard/Protean/Technician (DW)
Movepool: +Sucker Punch (level-up), +Moonblast, +Play Rough, +Close Combat, +Extreme Speed, +Mach Punch, +Vacuum Wave (level-up), +Shadow Sneak, +Aqua Jet, +Water Shuriken, +Bullet Punch, +Ice Shard

See how it works?
Feel free to theorymon, suggest changes, buff things, whatever.
Check out the old PiratePad for examples as to how buffed things should be.
Remember, if it ain't broken, make it that way!

Edit: THE BROKEMONS COUNCIL IS:
simsims2800
Jaguar360
SpartanMalice
Leafshield
OiawesomeDG
The Reptile
Adrian Marin
We will be making all official changes.
By the way, the logo is mega gengar and mega khan because they were broken in OU.

If you want to make Pika even more broken, give it Leaf Blade and Aqua Tail as well as Close Combat so you really don't know which physical moves the rodent is running.

Another Brokemons rule: NO MEGAS. The base forms are broken enough.
Also, Jaguar360, there's such a thing as overbroken. Plus, you should respect flavor! If you want examples from the past, check out this pad.

Dragonair
Dragon/Water
130/80/90/100/106/100
(BST: 606)
Shed Skin/Marvel Scale/Drizzle(DW)
Movepool: +Hurricane, +Hydro Pump, +Fly, +Cosmic Power, +Psychic +Flash Cannon
Gives dragonair alot more options and makes it viable, if not completely broken. Cosmic power makes defensive dragonair relatively sound. Water adds key resistance to ice.

Vespiquen
Bug

/130/102/80/102/106 (BST: 600)
Pressure/Parental Bond/Unnerve(DW)
Movepool: +Stun Spore +Bulldoze +Mach Punch +Extremespeed +Stored Power +Sucker Punch +Hurricane +Brave Bird
(I'm suprised gamefreak didn't make mega vespiquen with parental bond anyway... It makes a ton of sense flavor-wise.)
This makes Vespiquen quite a beast. Fast, and hard hitting with attack order, great coverage with bulldoze which will lower the opponent's speed twice, essentially securing a knockout the next turn if the opponent's mon manages to survive (save those with extremespeed). Stun spore gives an option to paralyze, and Mach Punch gives rock coverage and priority. (I'm suprised gamefreak didn't make mega vespiquen with parental bond anyway... It makes a ton of sense flavor-wise.) Did I break her enough for you?
(EDIT: Added moves and bumped up attack.)

This makes Vespiquen quite a beast. Fast, and hard hitting with attack order, great coverage with bulldoze which will lower the opponent's speed twice, essentially securing a knockout the next turn if it manages to survive (save those with extremespeed). Stun spore gives an option to paralyze, and Mach Punch gives rock coverage and priority. Did I break her enough for you?
Increase the attack to 130, increase both defenses to 120, increase special attack to 110, and give it Power-up Punch, Shell Smash, Tail Glow, Hurricane, Brave Bird, Leaf Blade, Extremespeed, Earthquake, Shell Smash, Stored Power, and Sucker Punch and I think you'll be close enough.
