Palossand is one of the best answers to Terrakion and has several useful utility options. Shore Up allows it to stay healthy throughout a match to consistently check physical attackers. Scorching Sands is preferred over Earth Power thanks to its high burn chance, which deters physical attackers from switching in, especially Zarude. Stealth Rock supports teammates by providing chip damage, which is complemented by Palossand's ability to force switches. Shadow Ball hits Flying-type Pokemon and works well with Scorching Sands by threatening those with Roost like Talonflame and Corviknight. Toxic can be used instead to punish common switch-ins like Zapdos and Mandibuzz. Palossand has several ability options. Water Absorb allows it to wall Barraskewda, as well as block Flip Turn and Scald from defensive stalwarts like Swampert and Toxapex. It can also provide an emergency switch in to Choice Specs Primordial Sea Pokemon like Inteleon, although it risks getting KOed by a coverage move. Magic Bounce blocks opposing entry hazards and status inducing moves, rendering passive foes such as non-Mold Breaker Skarmory and Hppowdon helpless, as well as blocking Terrakion's Toxic. Dauntless Shield is another option that gives Palossand better odds against dangerous physical attackers like Adaptability Zygarde-10%, Galarian Zapdos, and Pixilate Tapu Koko. Rocky Helmet is its item of choice to punish U-turn from offensive threats, while Leftovers helps it gain extra recovery. 2 Speed IVs helps Palossand deal with Stakataka better while still outspeeding Ferrothorn.

Palossand fits best on bulkier builds that need a Terrakion counter. Flying-type Pokemon such as Corviknight and Mandibuzz make for good partners for Palossand, as they can deal with physical Grass-types like Zarude and Dhelmise, while Palossand can check Barraskewda and Terrakion for them. Additionally, Dauntless Shield Palossand can handle Zygarde-10% for its Flying-type teammates, while they can provide entry hazard removal with Defog. Offensive Pokemon like Tapu Koko and Talonflame that struggle against Barraskewda appreciate Water Absorb Palossand handling it and setting Stealth Rock to chip their checks. Special walls are required to cover for Palossand. In particular, Blissey can handle Zapdos, Chandelure, and Hydreigon, while Magic Bounce Palossand prevents defensive foes from using Blissey to set entry hazards. Jirachi takes on Psychic-type special wallbreakers such as Latios, Tapu Lele, and Azelf that give Palossand problems. If Palossand doesn't run Water Absorb, teammates that can repeatedly switch into Flip Turn are appreciated. Examples include Tapu Fini and Desolate Land Moltres. It's also fairly passive and thus requires bulky teammates with a pivot option to regain momentum, notably the aforementioned Mandibuzz and Blissey.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Klutz alongside Assault Vest and Trick allows Palossand to cripple a Defogger that doesn't fear it such as Tapu Fini or Corviknight. Palossand can run some other abilities such as Unaware to better handle Swords Dance Garchomp or Wandering Spirit to punish U-turn, but they generally aren't as useful as the aforementioned abilities.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-type Pokemon**: Zarude, Dhelmise, and Tapu Bulu all threaten to deal heavy damage to Palossand with their Grass-type STAB attacks. However, they don't want to switch in directly as they fear burn except for Zarude if it runs Jungle Healing.

**Specially Offensive Pokemon**: Strong special attackers like Zapdos and Tapu Lele target Palossand's lower Special Defense stat and can all easily 2HKO it at worst.

**Water-type Pokemon**: If Palossand doesn't run Water Absorb, Barraskewda forces it out, and even defensive Water-types like Toxapex and Swampert threaten Palossand with Scald.

Palossand has a niche as the best answer to Terrakion with some utility options. Shore Up allows it to stay healthy throughout a match to consistently check physical attackers and beat other defensive Pokemon one-on-one. Scorching Sands is preferred over Earth Power thanks to its high burn chance, which deters physical attackers from switching in, especially Zarude. Stealth Rock supports teammates by providing chip damage, which is complemented by Palossand's ability to force switches. Shadow Ball makes it be able to hit Flying-type Pokemon and works well with Scorching Sands by threatening those with Roost like Mandibuzz and Corviknight. I would add Toxic here as an OO to pressure some common switch ins like Zap, Mandi Magic Bounce blocks opposing entry hazards and status inducing moves, rendering passive foes such as non-Mold Breaker Skarmory and defensive Kommo-O helpless, as well as non-Swords Dance Terrakion blocking Terrakion's Toxic. Water Absorb is an alternative that deals with Water-type Pokemon like Swampert and Toxapex better allows it to wall Barraskewda, as well as block Flip Turn and Scald from defensive stalwarts like Swampert and Toxapex. Notably, it completely walls the standard Barraskewda set containing Liquidation / Aqua Jet / Flip Turn / Close Combat. think this reads better as one sentence Dauntless is another option that gives Palossand better odds against dangerous physical attackers like Adaptability Zygarde-10% and Pixilate Tapu Koko. Rocky Helmet is its item of choice to punish U-turn from offensive threats. Minimum Speed helps Palossand deal with Stakataka and Gyro Ball Ferrothorn better.

They can also form an entry hazard control core with Defog. The Dauntless Shield variant can also handle Adaptability Zygarde-10% that bypass their immunity to Ground attacks. Offensive Pokemon like Tapu Koko and Talonflame that struggle against Barraskewda appreciate Water Absorb Palossand handling it and setting Stealth Rock to chip their checks. Special walls are required to cover for Palossand. In particular, Blissey can handle Zapdos, Primarina, and Inteleon while Magic Bounce Palossand prevents defensive foes from using Blissey to set entry hazards. If Palossand doesn't run Water Absorb, teammates that can repeatedly switch into Flip Turn are appreciated. Examples include Tapu Fini and Desolate Land Moltres. I would add that it is passive, especially against opposing magic bounce, so teammates that can take hits and pivot to regain momentum are welcome.

Palossand can forgo Stealth Rock or one of its attack for Toxic. Klutz alongside Assault Vest and Trick allows Palossand to cripple a Defogger that doesn't fear it such as Tapu Fini and Corviknight. Toxic can be used instead to punish common switch ins like Zapdos and Mandibuzz. Magic Bounce blocks opposing entry hazards and status inducing moves, rendering passive foes such as non-Mold Breaker Skarmory and defensive Kommo-O helpless (rip) you can prob mention more niche stuff like Cobalion/Excadrill/Blissey/Nihilego/Hippowdon/Landorus-T, choose whichever you prefer, as well as blocking Terrakion's Toxic. Water Absorb is an alternative that allows it to wall Barraskewda, as well as block Flip Turn and Scald from defensive stalwarts like Swampert and Toxapex. mention that it can offen an emergency water SI to stuff like Inteleon Dauntless Shield is another option that gives Palossand better odds against dangerous physical attackers like Adaptability Zygarde-10%, Galarian Zapdos and Pixilate Tapu Koko. Rocky Helmet is its item of choice to punish U-turn from offensive threats while Leftovers helps it gain extra recovery. change the order of abilities to match with slashes (if you changed them) Minimum Speed helps Palossand deal with Stakataka and Gyro Ball Ferrothorn better. change this if you put full IVs/2 IVs in Speed

Palossand fits best on bulkier builds that need a Terrakion counter. Flying-type Pokemon such as Corviknight and Mandibuzz make for good partners for Palossand, as they can deal with physical Grass-type threats like Zarude and Dhelmise while Palossand can check Pixilate Tapu Koko not a fan, pixi koko does like 45 so with hazards/crit you're in range and you dont check special koko so I would use another example like Barraskewda and Terrakion for them. In particular, Blissey can handle Zapdos, Primarina, and Inteleon not the primary examples I would use since WA can help vs them; Lele, Volcanion, Chandelure, etc, are better examples while Magic Bounce Palossand prevents defensive foes from using Blissey to set entry hazards. Thank you for all of your AAA endeavors so far! I have implemented the changes. Some commentary: When I first wrote this, SD Ferro wasn't a thing yet so I figured Palossand could get away with min Speed. As for ability choice, I think I'm the only person to use it considering I prefer hard checks/counters to Terra and I use WA more frequently so I agree with the change. The special attacker mention I also only added Chandelure because Lele can nuke Blissey with Psyshock and Volcanion can do the same with Flare Blitz. So I added Hydreigon instead.
