Hello all, I am here to rmt a team I made that I've been really liking this gen. While I made this team way back around 3 months ago, it has consistently proved to be useful both on ladder and in a tour I am in (OU fall seasonal). In regards to ladder, my peak ELO with this team is 2130, and my peak GXE is 90%. I have hit #1 numerous times with this team, and even had a brief period where Top 4 was consecutively my alts (Fusien, Zhirre, Throughtheseaofelo, and Glastrierisgood). Tour wise, I brought it to the majority of my Ou seasonal matches over the three month period, with the team ending overall with a 7-2 score, which is solid enough for me. I have passed this team to several of my friends, such as D18l and AquaVanilla, and they have mostly found success with it. Oh and Blimax the goat used this team (a set variation of it) in two of his vids in high ladder and got all wins, with no losses (GOAT). If you are friends with me or hang around in OU chat, you know I've been putting this rmt off for a long time, but here it finally is. Hopefully not too late ha ha

The team is a Bulky Offense that revolves around the offensive cores of Band Zeraora, Band Urshifu-Rapid, and Specs Kyurem to break the majority of teams, while possessing a defensive trio of Galarian Slowking, Physdef Corviknight, and SpDef Hippo to act as a safety net for offensive threats. Be aware you will have to play at least somewhat aggressively with this team to unleash its full potential.

Here was the team building process
:zeraora:
In anticipation of my first ssnl game, I was brainstorming on what to build. I remembered my friends Acey 2B! and Storm Zone hyping up Band Zeraora, so I decided to build around that.

:Zeraora: :Urshifu:
The amount of offensive and defensive role compression Shifu brings is incredible, and it consistently is an anti-bs mon when dealing with many of what an opponent may bring. In this scenario, it works well with zeraora by threatening the grounds that Zera has trouble with, and is able to turn out of mons like pex to bring in band zera to fire hits.

:Zeraora: :Urshifu: :Kyurem:
While Zeraora and Shifu is a good core, pex still may be annoying due to the Zera being banned and restricted in what it can click if theres say a pex + ground team, and pex can even live 1 band plasma if its heavy physdef, so I needed another way to beat it. Additionally, you can never be enough anti ground when running Zeraora, so the more anti ground mons the better. When I first made the team, I was the dd sub set. That proved to be a bit awkward here, so I shifted to DD roost, then Sub, and finally Specs, which I found the best fit. This was before Never Melt Ice became so trendy btw. I've tried making it NMI on this team, yet I personally like how Specs is truly almost unanswerable here, being able to nail bliss and sciz with a specs focus blast 2hko that NMI is otherwise unable to accomplish. However this is more of a preference thing, so feel free to make it NMI. Btw, focus blast is the only niche specs kyurem has compared to nmi for the reasons i mentioned, so if you are running specs with no focus blast on your teams, then consider nmi.

:Zeraora: :Urshifu: :Kyurem: :Slowking-Galar:
Slowking Galar and Shifu go with each other like peanut butter and jelly: future sight, fini check, koko check, the works. Galking also provides future sight for Band Zera too if necessary, though that happens less often from what I've seen. Its also a semi kyurem answer which is cool.

:Zeraora: :Urshifu: :Kyurem: :Slowking-Galar: :Corviknight:
Corv offers several features here: steel, defog (especially nice when we have Kyurem), further ground deterrent, semi Weavile and Kart answer, and annoys Shifu with its helmet. With U-turn, it is also able to get momentum and bring in one of our 3 breakers, which can pummel through the opposing team.

:Zeraora: :Urshifu: :Kyurem: :Slowking-Galar: :Corviknight: :Hippowdon:
Finally, I needed a Dragapult and Heatran answer, a hail answer (Ox Hail was incredibly popular at the time), and a ground type Stealth Rocker. Spdef Hippo fit all of these roles, and is a very nice addition to the team. The bulk is fantastic, and while kind of passive, its helped by the aggressiveness the three breakers bring. Sand is super clutch too, as you annoy hail and can cheese Boots Shedinja stall which youll face every now and then on ladder.

Band Zeraora is the mon I initially decided to build upon. The whole niche of using a band version of Zera over boots is the massive increase in power, and that affect is felt a good deal of the time. You are able to chip grounds far easier, revenge Kart at a higher amount of health, and ko a variety of mons you otherwise wouldn’t (Lele, spdef Pex, etc.). Another cool aspect of band is that you can actually hit Chomp hard from the get go: Knock Off does ~40%s and Play Rough, usually for revenging purposes, does ~80%s. Outrage can be used to ohko Chomp, but I personally prefer Play Rough to not be locked, and a semi strong fairy move is sometimes cool to spam when resists are gone yet the other moves have answers. Just a standard Shifu set, if you need to know what this does I recommend reading the analysis entry on it. In short, close combat and surging strikes are strong stabs, Jet is priority to revenge mons (especially volc), and u turn provides momentum and a way to get out of stuff that you can’t really touch. Shifu goes beautifully with Zera, as it is able to handle the grounds that zera has struggle with, and in return can bring in zera with u turn to handle the bulky waters. A cool dynamic they have too is that band zera is able to chip both Buzzwole and garchomp, allowing Shifu an easier time, and vice versa. Defensively, Shifu offers a semi weave and Tran answer, which are always helpful to have. Shifu calcs:

Before I get to the analysis here’s a joke. What’s a Kyurem favorite job? A doctor bc when mons come to him with a cold he cure’em. Ha ha. Anyways this is Specs Kyurem, and it’s role is to further wallbreak against grounds for zera, as well as break the majority of shifus checks and be brought in by its u-turn. Ice beam and Freeze Dry are classics on offensive non sub Kyurem, and focus blast beats blissey and scizor on the switch, part of the whole reason why one would ever consider running specs over never melt ice. For last move I personally prefer Earth Power to reliably hit steels in the scenario where I don’t want to miss, but draco can be used as well if you really wish (Blimax used draco in his video). Never melt ice and roost over focus can be run on this team if you really want, but personally I like hitting sciz and bliss. It’s a preference thing I’d say, so feel free to test which you prefer. Running this with Shifu is soooo good oml. The synergy is fantastic as you provide future sight for Shifu to beat pex, plus you beat koko and fini. The first 3 moves are what I run on assault vest galking 99% of the time: sludge allows you to beat fini and has a very dumb 30% poison chance, future sight is a huge part of what makes galking go so well with breakers, and flame thrower means you can break ferro and to a lesser extent corv. Ice beam here is fantastic imo as it pairs beautifully with Band zeraora. You’d be surprised how many people sack their chomp or 70% of their Spdef Lando’s health to a ice beam on switch or on a predicted stealth rock if you are feeling spicy and just lose to band zera clicking moves. I’d like to tag AquaVanilla here, as he was especially nice with ice beam, catching numerous grounds on the switch on on his road to 1900. The evs provide enough hp and spdef that when combined with av allow you to eat 2 specs pult shadow balls from full health, albeit badly and requiring no drop. The special attack evs ensure ice beam ohkoes offensive chomp. Originally this set was the far more offensive ox set (modest 204 special attack), yet that set is 2hkoed by specs pult shadow ball, which is frustrating on a team with no ghost resist, like this one. The problem with the move combination is that you are left hard walled by tran, but I feel hitting grounds hard is worth the cost. Nevertheless, feel free to run eq and change the nature to sassy when you do if you are too worried about tran. Here are some calcs:

Corv offers a semi kart and weave answer for the team, along with Defog and a steel type in general. It further advances the trend of anti ground as well with its typing and helmet punishing u turn attempts from Lando. Originally I ran body press, but I later changed it to brave bird. While body press is nice for Melmetal and not taking recoil, the lack of a flying move made me weak to set up sweepers such as dd dragapult and sd hawlucha. Additionally, while body press would be preferred on most teams for Weavile and kartana, here I am assisted by Urshifu and zeraora, so I require the move less. Rocky helmet helps with the aforementioned Landorus u turns, as well as annoying Shifu surging strikes and similar contact moves. Though rare, you can also sometimes catch something like a 16% torn on a u turn. Rare when it happens, and risky so not worth it all the time, but when it succeeds it feels great. As such, it is able to handle pult far better (still not perfectly due to shadow ball spdef drops), along with mons like tran and volc here and there. With spdef investment it’s pretty darn bulky in its spdef stat, and gives pseudo Gliscor vibes (you take like 40 from Slowbro scald and toxic back, etc). Sand stream is a clutch ability too, as it allows you to annoy hail and rain teams, as well as disturb boots shedinja stall that’s seen on ladder every now and then. However, the pult matchup is definitely the biggest reason I’d use this over Lando on this team personally, as otherwise it’s rather weak to a well timed specs pult (or rather more weak to it). The passivity, though annoying sometimes, is semi amended by toxic and the presence of 3 strong breakers.

Also here are two Blimax videos were he uses a variations of the team:

Before I mention the threat list, bare in mind this team requires you to play quite aggressively to beat some mons that would otherwise be huge threats.
Threat List:
Biggest threats

:blacephalon: :dragapult: :aegislash: :gengar: ghosts : specs shadow ball Blacephalon crushes everything on this team barring hippo, which only barely avoids a 2hko from timid specs shadow ball at full health, effectively losing with the slightest bit of chip. Scarf is less scary but still can prose to be a threat if it manages to trick or spdef drop Hippo. Aegi is similarly threatening. Pult is more manageable as Galking is able to barely eat if at high enough hp, but pult has a tendency to spdef drop which complicates the matter. Gengar can fall into either the Aegi or Pult category depending on the set

:garchomp: this thing has a really good possibility to sweep if you let it get a swords dance and a scale shot off, and if revenge killing with zera or shifu, doing enough damage with Corv, or living barely with hippo isn’t a possibility.

:Mew: By Mew I mean Cosmic Power Mew, which is very scary for this team. The best answer I’ve found is hard switching into healthy Shifu a when it sets the first Cosmic Power, and threatening with surging strikes. While you are effectively sacking your Shifu, you get it low enough to where that band zera is able to revenge. However there are times when you aren’t able to do that due to Shifu being low hp, knocked, or needed, or there being a helmet mon (usually Pex) in the back. In these scenarios, you have likely lost, but you may be able to cheese a win with sludge bomb poison from king, and/or crits from other mons. If it’s body press and not taunt, hippo can toxic it, but most I’ve noticed are taunt now so be cautious.

Medium threats

:heatran: Has Hippo and Shifu as semi answers, but magma does quite a bit, and a well played one is scary, especially if it comes in on Slowking.

:kyurem:Specs can spam ice beam pretty freely, but King can take a few and go for sludge bomb damage. It’s also fairly simple to revenge, and worst case worst Shifu is able to live a specs ice beam, though taking quite a bit.

:Urshifu::Zapdos-Galar: Clicking the right move, both of these fighting types are scary. However, there are resists for both (especially helmet Corv for Shifu) and both can be revenged.

:Tapu Lele:Scarf is relatively easy to be dealt with due to Corv Hippo King, but specs is very scary, especially if it catches the King with psyshock. For scarf, focus on beating it with defensive mons, and for specs, focus on revenging it or playing aggressively.

:Victini:V create and bolt strike are fairly scary, but it can be revenged, and Shifu can switch in to v-create twice. While Hippowdon and Galking can’t switch in, it also can’t ohko them from full if it’s not band or in sun. If it isn’t boots, rocks can also limit the turns it has to switch in.

Now time for the shoutouts, thanks to all of these people for their help and companionship.

Storm Zone and Acey 2B! for pioneering Band Zeraora in modern Gen 8, and also for being great friends who always help and provide competitive insight

Baloor for being the Goat and a super nice dude who helps with competitive teams

Piyush25 for being a cool, kind person as well as supporting me when I was hype laddering this

D18l for laddering heavily with the team and letting me spectate his games, and also being a chill cool dude.

AquaVanilla for being the goat AquaVanilla duh, and also for being a good helper and who I’ve helped ladder with with this team before. (Also his convo was the place were I wrote the draft for this rmt lol thanks again)

The OU room and it’s staff, especially Azure Nights and Typhlosion4 for their help in tests.

YeetYolk07, SweetPatata , Blastoise Expert , BreakthrU89 , starbitstorm , kalifguest22 , itzb , Korkskrew , and the rest of you all, thanks for the continuous support

Blimax for showcasing it in two of his vids and having a great YouTube channel (sub to him!)

and much more not listed here, appreciate you all! :D

This team is really solid, smashes most of the Balanced Teams out there. Choice banded Zeraora, laughed on by most ground and grass types, pair it up with Future Sight, not a single mon in the tier can resist the combo. Hippowdon, Garchomp, Tangrowth, Landorus T, everything gets destroyed by it with a correct prediction. Specs Kyurem, I don't think I need to mention what it does. Lastly there is the all time deadly Urshifu + Future Sight combo, which shits on stall. Corviknight one of the best defoggers in the meta rn, with those slow u-turns to a threat. A very solid team, I myself have got smashed by this team multiple times and have used the same to smash others as well.
However this team struggles a lot vs Magnezone +Kart Mu. After corv dies, Kart destroys the team with Leaf Blade, Kyurem Lacking recovery gets heavily chipped by rocks. Slowking can't switch in directly on Kart, so yeah Kart Mag or Drag mag is a giant problem.
Also its a 50 - 50 every turn vs Tbolt Lele, you have to go to King or Corv, 1 miss and Lele will go on a kill fest with every switchin.
Overall a very solid team nonetheless. Great Job.

the loan sharks are finally satisfied after missing many deadlines with this post, the green have regrown, the ladder is filled with 0 ghost resist team.

this is a perfect team for anti-rain and also a "i dont want any weird matchups, so im gonna be even vs most things" team, after using it for a while to help test it i find that other than ghost spam, kartana, or Zone + Sweeper. it really has solid match up vs most things, on an alt, i got to 1850-ish with this before stopping. great one!

Now if you'll excuse me my teambuilder now somehow has :tangrowth: Tangrowth + :aegislash: Aegislash + :dragapult: Dragapult in one team, idk why it appeared or how, but i should probably use it riiiiight?

I've been struggling horribly with this team. Maybe someone can correct me, but Ferrothorn, Scizor, Rillaboom, and I'm sure many others are big threats. I don't see how this team deals with them.
Great job on getting #1, clearly a much better player than me. Cheers.

Can you explain your struggles with these mons? For Rillaboom you have both Physdef Brave Bird Corv and Kyurem. For Scizor you have Corv to annoy it if it’s not sd, Shifu, Zera, and even King if it is brought in safely at high enough hp, and if it is sd you have both Shifu and Zera which deal with it rather well. For Ferro you have Urshifu, Band Zera, and if needed flamethrower from Galarian Slowking.
