i'm totally the most qualified person to do this

submit your top 10 (or less but 10 is preferred :woop:) albums of the year, and i'll do some sick wizard shit (elementary level math) to determine Smogoff's top most loved albums of the year!

Submission Guidelines

You have 2 weeks from the time this post goes up to make your submissions. I mean, I can't stop you if you submit after I'm done collecting the data, but be cool man :(

Any album released from January 1st, 2023 to December 1st, 2023 is eligible. Live Albums, EPs, Remasters and Compilations are all eligible, but singles are not. in the future if im still here, december 2023 will count for 2024

Please use the following submission format to make my life easier :pleading:

1) Album Name - Artist Name
2) Album Name - Artist Name
3) Album Name - Artist Name
...

If you feel the need to elaborate on a choice, or you just want to discuss your/someone else's list, please do it after your list to make my job very slightly easier :pleading:

also just remember to be nice :)

if you told me in like 2021 that lil yachty would release a rock album that was a top 8 contender i'd have called you insane.

ngl i wasnt expecting to like tiw and wallsocket as much as i did either, going in i didn't feel that much but both grew on me a lot over time. never thought id see paramore drop a top 5 record oty but good for them

I COULD BE BANNED!
i asked Chatgpt to give me his Top 10 albums for the year
he said "I'm sorry, but I don't have real-time information, and my training only includes data up to January 2023. As a result, I can't provide you with the top 10 albums from the year 2023. I recommend checking music charts, reviews, or official music platforms for the most up-to-date information on the latest albums" like a nerd

anyways my top 5 (i cant do top 10 i dont listen to much new stuff Gimmickyasitgets) would be

2. Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd by lana del Rey

which of these would you recommend to someone that hasn't listened to metal seriously in almost a decade? artist/band wise, I'm only familiar with king gizzard on this list

1) Live At Red Rocks '22 - King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard
2) After The Night (Live) - Parannoul
3) The Lamb As Effigy - Sprain
4) Beloved? Paradise? Jazz?! - McKinley Dixon
5) Javelin - Sufjan Stevens

Nerd list but Live At Red Rocks is one of the greatest albums I've ever heard, 8 and a half hours of 3 separate Gizzard Live performances at Red Rocks is some absolutely legendary shit

100% Green Lung. Extremely similar to Black Sabbath, and definitely the least heavy band in my list. If you want something a bit heavier but still accessible, next best would be Gatekeeper.

Realizing i listened to a ton of albums for the first time this year but barely any of them were from 2023 :pikuh: (yes i know i can't decide on the order at all)

1) Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here
2) Smiling Broadly - Self-titled (EP)
3) Parannoul - After the Magic
4) Yves Tumor - Praise a Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds)
5) Dabda - Yonder (EP)
6) RAY - Camellia
7) Sial - Sangkar (EP)

Not a huge fan of any of these but might as well as round it out to 10

8) Haru Nemuri - INSAINT (EP)
9) Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
10) McKinley Dixon - Beloved? Paradise? Jazz?!

Actually, if December 2022 albums count, I'll drop the McKinley Dixon and put For Tracy Hyde - Hotel Insomnia at #8
