Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Carracosta @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Rock Slide
- Knock Off
Carracosta does a decent job at annoying this core. Sets up rocks to limitate Swellows switch-ins and tries to burn Piloswine with scald. Rock Slide OHKOs Swellow, Scald is a 3HKO on Pilo (without potential burn damage). Knock off is nice to get rid of Pilos Eviolite.
Solrock @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Will-O-Wisp
- Morning Sun
- Stone Edge
Solrock just hard walls this core plain and simple. You can easily cripple Piloswine with Will-O-Wisp and set up Stealth Rock on it while Swellow does pitiful damage which just gets healed off with Morning sun.
220+ Atk Piloswine Icicle Crash vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solrock: 142-168 (41.3 - 48.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
220+ Atk burned Piloswine Icicle Crash vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solrock: 71-84 (20.6 - 24.4%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Swellow Boomburst vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Solrock: 89-105 (25.9 - 30.6%) -- 4% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
Hitmonchan (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch/Stone Edge
- Mach Punch
- Rapid Spin
Archeops is a very powerful threat that is held back by its ability. Hitmonchan is the best spinner NU has access to, helps breaks Steel- and Rock-types for Archeops and provides hazard control, while giving strong priority.
Not as fullproof as POH' s Musharna but Choice Scarf Rotom can pressure this core quite a bit. First off, it comes in for free on 3/4 of Hitmonchan's moves and can Volt Switch on it to get chip damage or revenge kill with Shadow Ball or TBolt. Archeops doesn't let it in as easily but is instead OHKOed by TBolt or Volt Switch.

Regirock @ Chople Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stone Edge
- Thunder Wave
- Counter
- Stealth Rock
Ngl, this was a hard core to break/find issues (without using mah boy frillish) due to the sheer coverage these mons have. But I find that counter chople regi has a nice surprise factor sometimes due to it not really being a common set; but it's still effective at what it does. Due to it being able to eat a drain punch a OHKO with counter and also eat an earth power vs arch it makes this mon troublesome.
252+ Atk Life Orb Iron Fist Hitmonchan Drain Punch vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Chople Berry Regirock: 87-103 (23.9 - 28.2%) -- 93.1% chance to 4HKO
4 SpA Archeops Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 200 SpD Regirock: 118-140 (32.4 - 38.4%) -- 98.1% chance to 3HKO
0 Atk Regirock Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 306-362 (105.1 - 124.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
-Stallbreaker mesprit set, since many things wont be able to break a sub at +1, free switchin on hitmonchan and gets a free sub, while it takes any hit vs archeops and revenges with Ice beam. There werent many things that threaten this core since archeops and hitmonchan have completely different checks, so mesprit was pretty cool option. If malamar leaves, ice beam may be standard over signal,Evs let it kill shiftry after a boost iirc.
Standard Weezing does well against this core. Not posting a set because I'm on mobile, but it ravages Hitmonchan and can definitely take any two non-crits from Archeops. While Weezing generally shouldn't be your only response to Archeops, it is a nice defensive check to an otherwise very difficult Pokemon to beat.
Here's a cool core utilizing both an unusual playstyle, and one of our new drops.
Essentially, the idea is that trevenant can swap in to most of rhydon's checks (gastrodon/steelix/rhydon/poliwrath) with somewhat minimal risk, set up TR on a predicted switch, and then proceed to break through the opponent's team. Aggron can easily take advantage of the TR, and trevenant's wallbreaking, to make its job even easier.
Aggron @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Brave Nature
- Head Smash
- Heavy Slam
- Superpower
- Fire Punch
Optional alterations are to run horn leech over wood hammer, for more longevity, or alternatively, a different item choice such as meadow plate, or expert belt, though they can often give up the ability to self-deny trevenant, giving a free switchin, and a fair bit of power.
Archeops OHKOs Trevenant and Aggron with Acrobatics and Earth Power respectively. With TR up there's not much that can take hits from this core so kill it before it lays eggs it sets up TR.
