Voting has finished, Jellicent overwhelmingly won this week, gz to kyotoshi and gz to the community! we've finally found the hard counter to cinderace and we dont have to ban it anymore. As for Checks ive decided that if theres only one submission for any category there'll be to winner, kinda hard to win when you dont have anyone to compete against isnt it?

For this week we're doing the best Pokemon, not in the tier just in general

:ss/kyurem:
Kyurem @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Freeze-Dry
- Focus Blast
- Draco Meteor

Albeit it gets quickly chipped down by hazards and can get revenge killed quite easily, Theres no denying that Kyurem is a massive threat to switch in to, between strong stabs in Draco and Ice beam, good coverage in Focus Blast and freeze dry to hit water types, Kyurem Will Soar Upon the Frozen Heavens unless you have something that can reliably switch into all its moves.

Voting ends at Friday on 11:59pm GMT+1

- U-turn
- Roost

About the hardest counter to Kyurem (Specs and SubRoost) out there. Mega Scizor comes in either STAB and doesn’t mind the coverage too much, only fearing the occasional HP Fire. In return, a meaty Bullet Punch chunks Kyurem, especially if its chipped by Stealth Rock. Mega Scizor can also force Kyurem out and Roost, meaning it isnt getting worn down long-term.

Nominating Chansey as a Counter

:ss/Chansey:

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Soft-Boiled

Chansey is one of, if not the only Pokemon in the tier that doesn't stand the risk of being 2HKO'd by any one of Kyurem's moves, with even Focus Blast being a 3HKO at best and every other move not even coming close to touching it, giving Chansey the chance to heal, throw off a Seismic Toss or Toxic, or even get rocks up in its face if it's so daring. Unfortunately, Chansey only really fits on Stall or extremely fat builds due to being worse than Blissey in every way other than raw bulk.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 274-324 (38.9 - 46%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 222-262 (31.5 - 37.2%) -- 86.3% chance to 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 154-183 (21.9 - 26%) -- 4.5% chance to 4HKO

Nominating Magearna as a Check

:ss/magearna-original:

Magearna @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fleur Cannon
- Flash Cannon/Ice Beam/Thunderbolt/Focus Blast
- Volt Switch
- Trick

Scarf magearna, the most pogging magearna set known to man. I am a lover for this set, as it revenges and cleans so easily late game. This mon can swap into kyurem on a double switch/slow uturn/another of your mons dying. With flash/fleur cannon you can force it out as you outspeed it with scarf. Scarf mag is a poggers set, needs more recognition in the tier ❤.

252 SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kyurem: 462-546 (118.1 - 139.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Magearna: 191-225 (63.4 - 74.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Kyurem Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Magearna: 107-126 (35.5 - 41.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 SpA Magearna Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kyurem: 288-338 (73.6 - 86.4%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

:ss/Blissey:
Blissey @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Toxic/Thunder Wave
- Teleport

Blissey checks Specs Kyurem well for the most part, only fearing Specs Focus Blast. However, it's worth noting that while Focus Blast has a reasonable chance to 2HKO, it isn't guaranteed and this coupled with Focus Blast's meh accuracy means Blissey has a decent chance of survival in that scenario (still only really a check though because of this). Furthermore, Blissey's access to Natural Cure, Softboiled, and Teleport means it can heal itself of Kyurem's onslaught and potential freezes from its Ice STAB while using it as momentum fodder when it comes in on a non-FB move. Toxic and Twave also further help Blissey check Kyurem, as Toxic's chip damage paired with a SR weakness wears down Kyurem incredibly fast, while Twave's paralysis lets Blissey outspeed Kyurem to heal with Softboiled (as well as helping teammates to outpace it too) to avoid FB's potential 2HKO.

EVs: 78 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature

- Swords Dance
- Shadow Claw
- Shadow Sneak

This set can switch into Kyurem, however Draco Meteor can do well over 50%, so its only a reliable counter once. However, as opposed to a SpDef Aegislash, this set can take advantage of any sort of switchin and blow the target away. This set does lose to common Kyurem allies such as MLopunny. Kyurems other moves can only do 38% max, making Aegislash reliable in taking advantage of Kyurem. Additionally, Aegislash is resistant to rocks, so it is significantly harder for Kyurem to take advantage of the predicted Aegislash switchin. It is however susceptible to spikes. Aegislash is a mightily strong breaker who is very hard to switchin, and it has a wonderful defensive typing especially when it comes to Kyurem. Note that if Kyurem is EP then Aegislash is unable to switch in.

Voting is finished! S&L won Counters with their Mega Scizor and KirbCena checks with Blissey, gz you both! Anyways, i am upset at yall. We banned Cinderace literally THE WEEK after we found a hard counter to it? smh i am disappointed, i guess we need a new broken fire type to complain about.

:ss/victini:
Victini @ Normalium Z
Ability: Victory Star

Omniboost with STAB Stored Power goes brrrrr in tandem with strong Fire moves and a more accurate than usual Focus Blast, let us Celebrate finding a counter and check to a fire type using the Normalium Z one more time!

Voting ends at 11:59pm gmt+1 on Friday!

Look I've attempted to use this mon on various hyper offense and it's hit or miss. Imo the prevalence of Blissey really screws the mono SpA set so I've tended to run mixed with V-Create > Searing Shot.

That being said the most annoying Gen 8 National Dex counter is Mega Latias.

Latias @ Latiasite
Timid Nature
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Roost
Psyshock
Calm Mind
Filler

Latias can Roost off any of Victini's attacks with ease, as they are all resisted. The margin isn't even close as Latias can chip away at Tini's health consistently in between recovery turns.

+1 252 SpA Victini Stored Power (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Latias-Mega: 86-102 (23.6 - 28%) -- 86.8% chance to 4HKO

Victini shouldn't set up as long as Latias is >40% with rocks. If it does, the best it can hope for is a mildly annoying Searing Shot burn, but personally I would click a raw Celebrate to commend my opponent's win.

Submitting Blissey as a Counter

Blissey (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots Ability: Natural Cure EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD Bold Nature - Seismic Toss - Toxic - Soft-Boiled - Teleport

Blissey, although its usage has been falling, is still the tiers best specially defensive pivot, and being so bulky, can shrug off any of Victini's attacks with ease. The Victini user at best has to hope for a crit/spdef drop from focus blast to actually break through bliss, as it slowly gets poisoned to death.

+1 252 SpA Victini Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 252-298 (35.2 - 41.7%) -- 83.4% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

As long as Blissey is above 40, it can continously spam Softboil and outheal the Victin until it gets a chance to Toxic/SToss and slowly whittle it down.

+1 252 SpA Victini Searing Shot vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Slowking: 69-81 (17.5 - 20.5%) -- possible 5HKO

Nominating Gastrodon as a Check

:ss/Gastrodon:

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Clear Smog

This Gastrodon set, in addition to checking dangerous special threats such as Ash Greninja, Volcarona, Heatran, and Magearna, also does a great job of checking this Victini set, being able to come in on it either as it sets up or after it's set up, take a hit, and Clear Smog away its boosts, essentially turning it into a non-threat. That being said, I've nominated it as a check and not a counter because it does stand a chance (albeit a low one) of getting 2HKO'd from full by Stored Power, and does need to be relatively healthy in order to take one.

+1 252 SpA Victini Stored Power (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 201-237 (47.1 - 55.6%) -- 17.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Victini Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 90-106 (21.1 - 24.8%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Gastrodon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Victini: 186-218 (54.5 - 63.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (after Clear Smog)

:sm/mantine:

Mantine @ Heavy-Duty-Boots
Calm Nature
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
- Scald
- Toxic/Haze
- Defog
- Roost

Mantine makes for an alright check. It can come in on the Z-Celebrate and then tank the Stored Power as it clicks Haze or Toxic since Victini's highest roll is like 44% (and both Searing Shot and FB won't do shit) and click Roost the following turn, effectively neutering Victini in the process. Mantine will have to be at decent health to tank multiple SPs if it doesn't come in on the Celebrate however, hence why it's only a check.
