Project Lure That Threat! [SS RU Edition] [Current Threat: Charizard]

Voting Stage

Huge thanks to everyone who participated in the submission stage of this week, now let's get into the voting! Please vote for what lure you think is most effective.

:cramorant: Katy's physical Cramorant
Cramorant @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Gulp Missile
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Liquidation
- Superpower
- Roost

cramorant is usually meant to be a special attacker which means it has trouble to break through this certain copperajah set, since copperajah spreads out a lot of damage and since cramorant is faster and has to eventually roost the damage it took off it will lose its flying type and copperajah can deal with this bird with a super-effective power whip and clearly ohkoes cramorant due to cramorants low defense of only 55 base.
but a physical version will catch it off guard with the superpower on this set attached. suprpower is a clear 2hko even after cramroant used it once and the attack drop will come into the calculation.

calcs:
252 Atk Cramorant Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Copperajah: 266-314 (69 - 81.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
-1 252 Atk Cramorant Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Copperajah: 178-210 (46.2 - 54.5%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO

:raichu-alola: aVocado's Focus Punch Alolan Raichu
Raichu-Alola @ Life Orb
Ability: Surge Surfer
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Volt Switch
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Focus Punch

0 Atk Life Orb Raichu-Alola Focus Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Copperajah: 333-393 (86.4 - 102%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Raichu-Alola Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Copperajah: 94-109 (24.4 - 28.3%) -- 97.6% chance to 4HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Raichu-Alola Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Copperajah: 79-95 (20.5 - 24.6%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

idk what u guys think but this is when i'd say "LURED & SMOKED" cuz this is actual (untested, mind you) heat that allows alolachu to beat lax and this, apparently

:silvally: Goldcat’s Reversal Silvally-Fairy
Silvally-Fairy @ Fairy Memory
Ability: RKS System
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Multi-Attack
- Reversal
- Endure

252+ Atk Copperajah Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Silvally-Fairy: 446-528 (134.7 - 159.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Silvally-Fairy Reversal (200 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Copperajah: 476-562 (123.6 - 145.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Endure ensures that you'll survive for max power Reversal and in general, makes it a more reliable move. Reversal is also useful for getting the OHKO on Steelix after a Swords Dance. This set is also more effective at dealing with Steel-types than the mixed sets, as you're actually able to score OHKOes. Obviously, this set is completely walled by Vileplume so Xatu/Drampa blocking Strength Sap is appreciated. Overall, this is just a fun and somewhat reliable set for luring Steel-types.

:sneasel: Expulso’s Low Kick Sneasel
Sneasel @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Low Kick
- Swords Dance / Ice Shard

People don't tend to bring that many Ice resists, and Fire-types such as Salazzle, Ninetales, and Charizard (which does not count as an ice resist) don't want to switch into Sneasel and lose their boots. Thus, a Copperajah user might have to send in Jah as an ice resist, or sack something and then plan to use Copperajah to take a hit and KO back. That does not go well, as it dies to Low Kick (or, 1/6th of the time, Low Kick + another attack):

252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Copperajah: 372-439 (96.6 - 114%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO

(in reality, it's just generally a bad idea to switch Copperajah into a strong physical attacker like Sneasel; a CB Knock Off does 67-80%. however, due to the general lack of physical ice resists, a Copperajah user may have no other choice!)

:Escavalier: gorex’s Occa Berry Escavalier
Escavalier @ Occa Berry
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 92 Atk / 84 Def / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Iron Head
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Metal Burst

This is where it's at. Basically, the EVs ensure you live one Heat Crash after rocks, and then retaliate with Metal Burst for the OHKO.
(Description of Metal Burst: "If hit by an attack, returns 1.5x damage")

252+ Atk Copperajah Heat Crash (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 84 Def Occa Berry Escavalier: 254-300 (74 - 87.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

This is the absolute most fire set I've seen in my entire life. The only thing it's missing is Substitute so people will think its Sub Plot when in reality its one of the oldest sets known to man: SubPunch. That even if it lacks Sub this set is still by far my favorite because of the inclusion of Focus Punch. I also like how this hits more than just the mentioned threat Copperajah. This is due to Focus Punch's high BP.

Thanks for voting everyone, the winner of this round is Expulso with his Low Kick Sneasel! Now let’s get into this weeks new threat.

Rillaboom

Rillaboom is a very good and highly regarded physical attacker and Choice Scarfer in the current RU metagame, being able to capitalize on the heavy usage of ground-types like Rhydon and Mudsdale. Other attributes that add to Rillaboom’s viability are its amazing attack stat and decent speed stat even with no Scarf for the tiers standards, and having access to u-turn being able to form potent offensive cores with Pokemon like Rotom and Silvally.
Rillaboom @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Knock Off

Rhydon @ Eviolite
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Megahorn
- Swords Dance / Stealth Rock

when rillaboom tries to switch into rhydon rhydon can easily use its coverage-option in megahorn as it has a 50% chance to ohko without rocks being on the field.
rillaboom has actually the bulk to come into rhydons earthquake and also its secondary stab in stone edge and kill rhydon in the process. but as explained above, megahorn catches rillaboom off guard and is with stealth rocks up a clear ohko:

-252+ Atk Rhydon Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rillaboom: 314-370 (92 - 108.5%) -- 50% chance to OHKO
-252+ Atk Rhydon Megahorn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rillaboom: 314-370 (92 - 108.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Copperajah @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Heavy Metal
EVs: 252 Atk / 92 SpD / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam
- Power Whip
- Heat Crash

while missing out on stone edge on this set means you're unable to hit zard, you could just pair this set with something that's able to efficiently deal with zard or w/e. anyways, shuca copperajah leverages on the fact that earthquake from rillaboom does upwards of 70 to able to efficiently lure it and guarantee an ohko with heat crash after rocks / small amount of chip.

additionally, shuca copperajah's effectiveness is not only limited to luring rillaboom. you can also use it to bait stuff like rhydon to heavily cripple it with power whip, or also stuff like eq-locked passimian or sd galardash that opt for high horsepower > low kick in last slot, and cripple / kill those with heavy slam. there might be other stuff unmentioned but you get the point, this is cool stuff. (not gonna provide calcs for these since its not the threat being lured, but you can check them out for yourself if you're interested)

(note: spread just taken from av copperajah analysis, there's more optimal spreads but too lazy to optimise / reveal what spread i use on mine etc etc)
252 Atk Rillaboom Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Copperajah: 288-340 (74.8 - 88.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Rillaboom Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Shuca Berry Copperajah: 144-170 (37.4 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ Atk Copperajah Heat Crash (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rillaboom: 314-370 (92 - 108.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe

Rindo berry on Jellicent allows it to burn Rillaboom 85% of the time as it lives both wood hammer and knock off. This Jellicent also allows it to lure Virizion, and Flapple. After burn, Rillaboom only has a 1.2% chance to 2hko Jellicent from full, which makes it a good emergency check if your team needs it.

252 Atk Rillaboom Wood Hammer vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Rindo Berry Jellicent: 172-204 (42.5 - 50.4%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Rillaboom Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Jellicent: 186-220 (46 - 54.4%) -- 55.1% chance to 2HKO

rhydon

i think rhydon is the best because rillaboom is a p common rhydon switchin - you wouldnt usually switch rillaboom into copperajah, fearing a heat crash [or any neutral attack from it], and u wouldnt usually switch rillaboom into jellicent, fearing a burn. you would often switch rilla into rhydon, tho; rillaboom is a pretty standard rhydon switch-in since very few things in the tier resist eq and arent weak to stone edge, and running rillaboom means you probably don't have, say, dhelmise/rotom-cut. therefore, megahorn rhydon lures rillaboom extremely well

Congratulations to Katy for winning this round with her Megahorn Rhydon :rhydon:! And thank you to everyone who voted :), now let's get into this week's threat.

Braviary
Braviary is still a relatively new Pokemon but it has proven itself to be a considerable threat in the RU metagame. Having access to moves like Brave Bird and Close Combat to blast resists along with its stellar base 123 attack stat and decent speed of base 80 lets it function as a fearsome Bulk Up sweeper, Choice Scarfer, or Choice Band user. This week we will be using the Bulk Up set for reference as it's the most threatening of the three.
Braviary (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 248 HP / 164 Atk / 96 Spe

- Roost

reserving toxic decidueye

Decidueye @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Spirit Shackle
- Roost
- Toxic

braviary is immune to the ghost-stab of decidueye and resists the grass-stab of it really well and outspeeds decidueye as well
therefore braviary is a good counter to decidueye and can come in at any time, but with TOXIC in decidueyes movepool
it cannot come in for free at all, as its longevity is cut down and braviary can not late-game-clean as it wants to and has to roost
more often during the game so a teammate of decidueye can remove it during the process of roosting up the toxic-damage.

Ability: Heavy Metal
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Flash Cannon
- Stealth Rock
- Thunderbolt

Basicly, Braviary will rely a bit too much on Close Combat with this set. Flying STAB being resisted by Steel type, it'll likely click easily on Close Combat.
Chople Berry on Duraludon blocks that Close Combat. While you're being faster, you won't reach an OHKO even with Rocks up cause of Braviary's investment in HP, which is why Braviary will easily stay and click that Close Combat. And damages it'll take will be enough to make it unreliable for the rest of the game, specially cause this set takes Rocks damages

Here's the calcs :
252 SpA Duraludon Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Braviary: 255-301 (63.2 - 74.6%)
+1 164 Atk Braviary Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Chople Berry Duraludon: 157-185 (55.8 - 65.8%)

Silvally-Ghost @ Ghost Memory
Ability: RKS System
EVs: 172 Atk / 84 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Multi-Attack
- Thunderbolt
- U-turn
- Swords Dance

This set usually can't beat Braviary due to it being immune to Silvally's main STAB, so with Thunderbolt, and the SpA investment, it guarantees a 2hko on Braviary assuming minimum rolls for everything, even recoil from Brave Bird.

84 SpA Silvally-Ghost Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Braviary: 172-204 (42.6 - 50.6%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO
164 Atk Braviary Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Silvally-Ghost: 186-219 (56.1 - 66.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (the recoil amount is somewhere like 15.2, which is enough to guarantee a 2hko even if you low roll both thunderbolts.)
+1 164 Atk Braviary Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Silvally-Ghost: 276-325 (83.3 - 98.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (You still eat a brave bird at +1)

Body Press + Iron Defense gives Claydol some sort of offensive presence as well as checking setup users such as Braviary. It also stops Claydol from being complete Scrafty fodder. The Sp.def is to avoid the 2HKO from Indeedee's Specs Hyper Voice after rocks and then the rest is to make Body Press stronger.

CB Dhelmise
Dhelmise (Pokémon) - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon ...

Dhelmise @ Choice Band
Ability: Steelworker
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Anchor Shot
- Power Whip
- Rock Slide
-
Knock Off / Shadow Claw
(speed is for min speed Plume, u should prob creep more tho)

In my RU Seasonal game vs zS he brought CB Dhemise and it did like 60% to Rotom-Mow with a resisted Power Whip, making me realize that this thing is absurdly strong. Base 131 Attack gives Dhelmise the highest Attack stat in the tier, and this can hit the opposing team extremely hard.

One of its best switch-ins is Braviary, which is immune to Ghost-type attacks and resists Grass-type attacks.
Dhelmise already wants to run Rock Slide to lure Charizard, but it has the added bonus of hitting Braviary hard:

252+ Atk Choice Band Dhelmise Rock Slide vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Braviary: 344-406 (85.3 - 100.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

Sadly it doesn't KO :( bu braviary is very bulky. Rock Slide works as a lure if Braviary has been chipped, killing it from 85%.

If Braviary has not been chipped, however, you can take it out with Anchor Shot:
252+ Atk Choice Band Steelworker Dhelmise Anchor Shot vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Braviary: 275-324 (68.2 - 80.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
since Anchor Shot is always neutral, Braviary cannot survive by Roosting off more damage than the attack does (which is what it does vs Rock Slide-locked Dhelm if it survives the first hit.

This lets you KO Braviary if it goes for Roost, which means it is forced to attack you. If it KOs you with Brave Bird, it takes 26.5% recoil damage, usually KOing it in combination with the damage you did from Anchor Shot.

You can also Knock Off its boots and then make it unable to switch into other stuff.

TLDR;
- Dhelm can KO it with Rock Slide if it took 15% chip
- Dhelm can force a trade with Anchor Shot if at full
- Dhelm can Knock Off its boots and then KO it if it tries to switch into Dhelm again.
