move 3: Fire Blast / Draco Meteor / Earth Power
move 4: Roost
item: Flame Orb
ability: Quick Feet
nature: Modest
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
With Flame Orb + Quick Feet, Hydreigon outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame, namely Barraskewda and Tapu Koko. With its Flame Orb activated, Hydreigon gains an effective immunity to poison and paralysis, which would otherwise stifle its sweeps. Nasty Plot gives Hydreigon the firepower to OHKO offensive threats like Talonflame and Zygarde-10% and boost past bulky walls like Blissey. Dark Pulse and Fire Blast are the preferred coverage options of choice, as at +2, they OHKO Barraskewda and Tapu Koko, respectively. Draco Meteor is also an option over Fire Blast to provide more immediate power versus Dark- and Fire-resistant Pokemon like Terrakion and opposing Hydreigon; it also 2HKOes Unaware Mandibuzz. Earth Power is another alternative that gives more accurate coverage for targets like Tapu Koko, Toxapex, and Heatran. A Modest nature is preferred, as Timid offers no notable benchmarks.

Hydreigon fits best on bulky offense teams that appreciate the Speed it provides. Physical wallbreakers like Galarian Zapdos and Terrakion benefit from Hydreigon pivoting into Mew and Intimidate Corviknight that try to switch into them. Offensive Pokemon like Dhelmise and Tapu Lele with weaknesses to status spreaders like Toxapex and Blissey pair well with Hydreigon, since it has an effective immunity to their status and can use them as setup fodder. Also, Hydreigon is constantly taking chip damage from its burn and appreciates the Grassy Terrain recovery that Dhelmise offers. Pixilate Tapu Koko is a noteworthy partner for Hydreigon because Dark Pulse + Fire Blast coverage targets many of Tapu Koko's common switch-ins, such as Heatran, Jirachi, and Ferrothorn. In addition, entry hazard control from common users like Tapu Fini and Corviknight keeps Hydreigon as healthy as possible so it doesn't have to continuously use Roost.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options

Sheer Force can also be used to boost the power of Dark Pulse and Flash Cannon. Mega Launcher is another option, boosting Dragon Pulse and Dark Pulse. Hydreigon can use a set with Hyper Voice and Galvanize, baiting in would-be safe switch-ins Pokemon like Tapu Fini. A set with Queenly Majesty and a Choice Scarf makes Hydreigon very hard to revenge kill and Flash Cannon turns the tables on Triage Fairy-types such as Tapu Lele and Togekiss.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Tapu Fini**: Regenerator Tapu Fini can freely switch into every viable Hydreigon set except Galvanize, making it one of the most reliable counters available.

**Other Fairy-types**: Fairy-type Pokemon resist both of Hydreigon's STAB moves. Tapu Koko outspeeds non-Quick Feet sets and OHKOs Hydreigon with Dazzling Gleam or Pixilate Facade. Common Fairy-type Pokemon such as Togekiss and Tapu Lele also often use Triage, allowing them to easily revenge kill non-Queenly Majesty sets.

**Blissey and Chansey**: Blissey and Chansey can switch into every Hydreigon set and either wall it with Unaware, or pivot into something that KOes Hydreigon.

**RegenVest Users**: RegenVest Landorus-T and Swampert can switch into Hydreigon's attacks and pivot into faster Pokemon or priority users that can KO it.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Fast offensive Pokemon such as Cinderace, Terrakion, and Tapu Koko outspeed and can OHKO Hydreigon if it isn't using Quick Feet.

With Flame Orb + Quick Feet, Hydreigon is able to boost itself to a Speed tier that outspeeds even the fastest unboosted threats in the metagame, namely Barraskewda and Tapu Koko. With its Flame Orb activated, Hydreigon gains an effective immunity to poison and paralysis, which would otherwise stifle its sweep potential sweeps. Nasty Plot gives Hydreigon setup potential, preventing it from being completely walled by Dark-resistant RegenVest Pokemon and Blissey gives Hydreigon the firepower to OHKO offensive threats like Talonflame and Zygarde-10% and boost past bulky walls like Blissey what regenvesters does it boost past lol? Lando just U-turns. Dark Pulse and Fire Blast are the preferred coverage options of choice because at +2, they OHKO Barraskewda and Tapu Koko, respectively. Draco Meteor is also an option over Fire Blast to provide more immediate power versus Dark- and Fire-resistant Pokemon like Terrakion and opposing Hydreigon; it also 2HKOs Unaware Mandibuzz.

Offensive Pokemon like Dhelmise and Tapu Lele with weaknesses to status spreaders like Toxapex and Toxic or Thunder Wave Blissey pair well with Hydreigon, because it is able to capitalize on those Pokemon and use them as setup fodder. Pixilate Tapu Koko is a noteworthy partner for Hydreigon because Dark Pulse + Fire Blast coverage targets many of the Steel-type Pokemon that switch into it, such as Heatran, Jirachi, and Ferrothorn. Because of the constant damage-over-time effect of being burned, Hydreigon is constantly taking chip damage and appreciates the Grassy Terrain recovery that Dhelmise offers. In addition, entry hazard control from common users like Tapu Fini and Corviknight keeps Hydreigon as healthy as possible so it doesn't have to continuously Roost.

Sheer Force can also be used to boost the power of Dark Pulse and Flash Cannon, but Dragon's Maw gives Hydreigon a more unique niche of obscene power with Draco Meteor. Mega Launcher is another option, boosting Dragon Pulse and Dark Pulse. Hydreigon can use a set with Hyper Voice and Galvanize, baiting in Pokemon such as Corviknight and Tapu Fini that usually can switch in safely. Choice Specs can also be used with Dragon's Maw, but its Choice lock tends to be exploited. A set with Queenly Majesty and a Choice Scarf makes Hydreigon very hard to revenge kill and turns the tables on Fairy-types with Triage.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Specially Defensive Steel-types**: Specially defensive Steel-types, such as Assault Vest Jirachi or Ferrothorn, resist Draco Meteor and take little damage from Dark Pulse or Flash Cannon, making them difficult for Hydreigon to break through without team support.

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Fast offensive Pokemon such as Cinderace, Terrakion, and Tapu Koko outspeed and can OHKO Hydreigon.

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-type Pokemon resist both of Hydreigon's STAB moves. Tapu Koko outspeeds non-Quick Feet sets and OHKOs Hydreigon with Dazzling Gleam or Pixilate Facade. Common Fairy-type Pokemon such as Togekiss and Tapu Lele also often use Triage, allowing them to easily revenge kill it. Tapu Fini's Water type leaves it neutral to Flash Cannon, Hydreigon's main way of damaging Fairy-types, and it can OHKO Hydreigon with Moonblast.

Hydreigon fits best on bulky offense teams that appreciate the Speed it provides. Physical wallbreakers like Galarian Zapdos and Terrakion benefit from Hydreigon pivoting into Mew and Intimidate Corviknight that try to switch into them. does hydreigon even want to pivot in on corv since it just takes a bunch from uturn Offensive Pokemon like Dhelmise and Tapu Lele with weaknesses to status spreaders like Toxapex and Toxic or Thunder Wave Blissey pair well with Hydreigon, because it who is it is able to capitalize on those Pokemon and use them as setup fodder. Pixilate Tapu Koko is a noteworthy partner for Hydreigon because Dark Pulse + Fire Blast coverage targets many of the Steel-type Pokemon that switch into it be specific with who "it" is, such as Heatran, Jirachi, and Ferrothorn. Because of the constant damage-over-time effect of being burned, Hydreigon is constantly taking chip damage and appreciates the Grassy Terrain recovery that Dhelmise offers. move this previous sentence to earlier where u mention dhelmise In addition, entry hazard control from common users like Tapu Fini and Corviknight keeps Hydreigon as healthy as possible so it doesn't have to continuously Roost.

Sheer Force can also be used to boost the power of Dark Pulse and Flash Cannon, but Dragon's Maw gives Hydreigon a more unique niche of obscene power with Draco Meteor. why compare sf and dmaw when they're both basically unviable, id just make them two separate sentences where you state that these sets exist Mega Launcher is another option, boosting Dragon Pulse and Dark Pulse. Hydreigon can use a set with Hyper Voice and Galvanize, baiting in Pokemon such as Corviknight and Tapu Fini that usually can switch in safely. corv doesn't really safely switch in on hydrei unless it's spdef Choice Specs can also be used with Dragon's Maw, but its Choice lock tends to be exploited. maybe just put this in the sentence with dmaw A set with Queenly Majesty and a Choice Scarf makes Hydreigon very hard to revenge kill and turns the tables on Fairy-types with Triage. Triage Fairy-types such as Tapu Lele and Togekiss

**Faster Offensive Pokemon**: Fast offensive Pokemon such as Cinderace, Terrakion, and Tapu Koko outspeed and can OHKO Hydreigon.

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-type Pokemon resist both of Hydreigon's STAB moves. Tapu Koko outspeeds non-Quick Feet sets and OHKOs Hydreigon with Dazzling Gleam or Pixilate Facade. Tapu Fini's Water type leaves it neutral to Flash Cannon, Hydreigon's main way of damaging Fairy-types, and it can OHKO Hydreigon with Moonblast. id make fini it's own Checks and Counter

**Unaware Walls**: id add this since hydrei never breaks unaware blob unless it's like specs mega launcher

- removed timid entirely, on second examination it doesn't actually do anything
- left intim corv mention bc they usually roost after having to switch into gzap/terrak, or you can aggressively bring hydreigon in instead of attacking with your fighting type, which makes dpulse/fire blast free
