Grimmsnarl carves a niche in the metagame courtesy of its access to Prankster alongside dual screens, Taunt, and a solid defensive typing. This makes it a solid lead Pokemon on hyper offense teams. Prankster allows Grimmsnarl to set dual screens before the foe can attack it and Taunt denies Defog attempts from the likes of Landorus-T, Gliscor, Tapu Fini, and Kartana, keeping dual screens active. It competes with Tapu Koko as a dual screens setter due to the latter's Electric Terrain support, which facilitates the dangerous Hawlucha, and ability to pivot out with U-turn, effectively giving its teammates more turns to sweep; however, Grimmsnarl separates itself due to having Prankster, solid defensive typing, better special bulk, and more utility outside of screens thanks to Spirit Break. Taunt additionally prevents entry hazard setters such as Landorus-T, Garchomp, Heatran, and Ferrothorn from setting up hazards, as well as disabling setup from the likes of Mega Latias, Mega Garchomp, Volcarona, and Mega Scizor. Grimmsnarl's solid defensive typing also allows it to hold off Mega Latias and Ash-Greninja. However, Grimmsnarl is extremely vulnerable to common wallbreakers such as the aforementioned Kartana and Heatran, as well as Mega Mawile and Mega Medicham. Spirit Break is used to target Dark-type Pokemon, which are immune to Prankster Taunt, like Weavile, Ash-Greninja, Mega Tyranitar, and Hydreigon. Light Clay gives its teammates more turns of dual screens to sweep, an invaluable benefit for hyper offense teams.
Grimmsnarl exclusively fits onto hyper offense teams, which include a bevy of wallbreakers and sweepers that benefit from its dual screens. Serperior, Volcarona, Gyarados, and Bisharp highly appreciate dual screens bolstering their mediocre bulk, making their attempt to sweep easier. Serperior and Bisharp also punish the use of Defog with Contrary and Defiant, respectively, making themselves more dangerous and difficult to handle. Due to Grimmsnarl's vulnerability to ferocious wallbreakers like Heatran, Kartana, and Mega Mawile, switch-ins to them like Kommo-o, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Scizor are helpful. Kommo-o, as well as Rillaboom, also checks Ash-Greninja, an otherwise annoying Pokemon for hyper offense teams to face. Entry hazard leads such as Landorus-T and Mew work with Grimmsnarl to assist its teams in sweeping.

Other Options
=============
Thunder Wave may be used to debilitate foes reliant on their speed, such as Mega Lopunny, Kartana, Serperior, and Hawlucha. However, Grimmsnarl is unable to touch Dark-types such as Weavile, Ash-Greninja, and Mega Tyranitar if it runs it, as they're immune to Prankster status moves.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Powerful Wallbreakers**: Despite dual screens lessening the damage Grimmsnarl takes, strong wallbreakers such as Heatran, Kartana, and Mega Mawile can still overwhelm it.
**Steel-types**: The aforementioned Mega Mawile, Heatran, and Kartana alongsideother Steel-types like Melmetal and Magnezone all do not care much for Spirit Break and hit Grimmsnarl very hard.
**Knock Off**: Grimmsnarl despises losing its Light Clay, as this limits the number of turns its teammates can benefit from dual screens. Weavile, Kartana, Clefable, Ferrothorn, and Tapu Fini all commonly carry the move.
