[OVERVIEW]
* Excellent user of Choice Scarf that checks top metagame threats such Deoxys-A, Mewtwo, and Arceus-Dark with its STAB U-turn.
* Great ability in Download, which grants it a boost to one of its offensive stats via switch-in.
* Has a wide array of coverage moves including Ice-type, Fire-type, and Electric-type moves, including access to priority in ExtremeSpeed.
* Excellent at gaining momentum because of this, as its coverage moves threaten many Pokemon and forces switches often.
* Resurgence of Sticky Web teams boosts Genesects niche in the metagame in a pinch, as it offers the playstyle a consistent check to Geomancy Xerneas.
* For a Steel-type, Genesect does not check much on its own; it cannot check a boosted Geomancy Xerneas, for instance.
* Very predictable; it heavily relies on Choice Scarf to be effective in the metagame and any attempt at running another set relies on bluffing the Choice Scarf set.
* It can be punished easily whenever it does not use U-turn, as locking into its other options can give threats such as Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and Arceus free turns.

ability: Download
nature: Naive / Hasty
evs: 248 Atk / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
* U-turn applies offensive pressure and gains momentum simultaneously.
* Iron Head is a secondary STAB that threatens Fairy-types.
* Ice Beam has valuable targets such as Mega Salamence, Rayquaza, and Zygarde, while also being Genesect's best coverage option against Primal Groudon, other Ground-types, and other Dragon-types.
* Explosion has great utility in doing massive damage to Pokemon such as Ho-Oh and Arceus, especially with a Download boost. It also prevents any entry hazard removal from occurring; overall an essential move in maintaining offensive pressure.
* ExtremeSpeed can source a priority move if Genesect's team lacks it elsewhere, and has cleaning potential with a Download boost.
Set Details
========
* Max Speed and a Naive nature tailor to Genesect's moveset to not hamper either of its offensive stats and be as fast as possible with a Choice Scarf held.
* The Special Attack investment grants an extra point when boosted by Download as opposed to only 4 EVs being invested in the stat.
* The remaining EVs are invested into Attack to strengthen Genesect's STAB moves and Explosion.
* Note, that due to legality issues, ExtremeSpeed is only allowed with a Hasty Nature and Shiny sprite.
Usage Tips
========
* Genesect is best used in the early-mid game where it can chip at the opposing team with its STAB U-turn and build momentum.
* Aggressively double switching to gain a favorable position to use U-turn is advised. Although, this is directly reliant on reading the opponent's plays properly in both getting Genesect on the field and using U-turn.
* Be wary of the consequences of using Genesect's other moves. Iron Head and Ice Beam can give free turns to deadly Pokemon such as Primal Groudon, Ho-Oh, and Primal Kyogre, shifting the direction of momentum. Keeping watch on the HP of these threats will help determine how safe the use of these moves is.
* Explosion should only be used in the two specific situations in which either 1.) Genesect fainting is the only way to prevent hazard removal in a 1v1 situation with a Rapid Spin or Defog user, and 2.) using Explosion is the best way to immediately handle a threat to your team which can be eliminated by it.
* Leading with Genesect is never a bad idea either in order to scout the opponent's plays.
Team Options
========
* Primal Kyogre has flawless synergy with Genesect because it capitalizes on Genesect using U-turn out of unfavorable matchups with bulky Fire-types and Ground-types, which it can eliminate easily.
* Spikes make more of the switches that Genesect forces to rack up residual damage, so setters such as Greninja, Cloyster, and Deoxys-S are standout partners.
* Mega Gengar forms a TrapTurn core with Genesect and can run moves such as Thunder and Destiny Bond to remove Genesect's checks.
* Any hard hitter that capitalizes on a free switch brought by U-turn synergizes well with Genesect. Choice Band Rayquaza, Yveltal, Choice Specs Xerneas, and Mega Lucario are all great examples.
* Sticky Web brings out more purposes for Genesect, as it hampers the effectiveness of Geomancy on Xerneas's Speed and lets Genesect outspeed and KO it with Iron Head. Shuckle is the most reliable setter, though more unorthodox setters such as Smeargle and Galvantula may be considered. Genesect additionally provides switches with U-turn to hard hitters such as the aforementioned Pokemon, which fit well on Sticky Web teams.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
* Choice Band boosts Genesect's Attack beyond Download to strengthen its physical moves further in order to dent bulkier threats, but is not as threatening to the metagame as Genesect is with a Choice Scarf.
* A set with Expert Belt can bluff the main set to net surprise KOes with its coverage moves, but has less utility overall as opposed to using Choice Scarf.
* Blaze Kick nails Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Jirachi, and Solgaleo, and does considerable damage to Celesteela and Skarmory with a Download boost. Nearly all teams have built-in Steel-type coverage with Primal Groudon though, so it is not worthwhile over the listed moves.
* Thunder can 2HKO 248 HP / 52 SpD Ho-Oh with the right Special Attack investment, but has few targets beyond this. Additionally, Thunder is inaccurate, and it is unwise to lock into an Electric-type move in a metagame teeming with Ground-types.
* Magic Coat can be used to bounce back status, and can shut down opposing leads by bouncing back hazards.
