SV OU EXCADRILL SAND FORCE - NJNP LADDER CHALLENGE (PEAK ELO 1980)

Introduction :

Hello everyone, today we are looking for a team based around SAND FORCE Excadrill (Yeah, you read well), for njnp's ladder challenge. This challenge was looking hard but it takes me less than 80 games to go 1950 with.

Besides the weird aspect of playing a sand force exca, the team works pretty well ! This team help me goes up to 1980 (didnt screen that, forgot...) and was pretty fun to use. I hope you will enjoy it a lot by testing it.

The Sand Force Squad :
:tyranitar: :excadrill: :ogerpon-wellspring: :corviknight: :dragapult: :kingambit:

Teambuilding Process :

First of all, I needed to build a team around Tyranitar :tyranitar: and Excadrill :excadrill: sand force for the challenge, didnt have choice... Sand Force is kind of a bad talent, BUT, it can have some use. In fact, Sand force boost every move rock, steel and ground type move by 1,3 on sand. Scarf excadrill allows him to outspeed the vast majority of the metagame (besides Deoxys-S :deoxys-speed: and booster mon). The 1,3 boost allows exca to take the kill on some mons in the tier like ghold def without baloon or a clean 2hko on offensive tusk (yeah that's not biggest boost but we take it hey)

252 Atk Sand Force Excadrill Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 196+ Def Gholdengo: 342-404 (90.4 - 106.8%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Sand Force Excadrill Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Great Tusk: 172-204 (46.3 - 54.9%) -- 63.7% chance to 2HKO

Sand Force means sand, sand means Tyranitar :tyranitar: our favorite godzilla. Here, I take Dragonite4242 set, this expert ttar lures common check to exca scarf suck as corviknight :corviknight: skarmory :skarmory: or gliscor :gliscor: to name fews mon. Get read of the ground immunity can lead to a clean Tera ground exca in late game which does a ton of damage. Low kick beats some mon like kingambit :kingambit: or heatran :heatran: that could be a problem if Ttar was not around.

Soo we have our two Sand support, What's next ? First we want a good mon with a big speed control to outspeed some dangerous mons like zamazenta and that can pivot to bring out our offensive core. Dragapult :dragapult: was the perfect choice, ghost type give us a good immunity to dragonite :dragonite: that could be a problem. I choose wow set with boots to give Dragapult a big longetivity, it will be the mon that you will use the most into your game. U-turn + Wow + hex can help a lot vs set-up sweeper mon like kingambit :kingmbit: and Roaring moon :Roaring-moon:.

Next we have Corviknight :corviknight:, kind of the sponge of the team, his role is to take hit, defog, body press kingambit or moon and turn into a better answer. We play defog + rapid spin on the team to help Tyranitar, Ogerpon-W because they need to go and back a lot of times. Last it helps Kingambit for the endgame.
His typing give us a ground immunity, a good way to play around gliscord or Hazards team.

Ogerpon-Wellspring :Ogerpon-wellspring: is the last pivot of the team, it will help the team to deal with Water Spam and get rid off bulky water or ground mon that can be very annoying for exca such as Rotom-W :rotom-wash:. I choose a taunt pivot set, u-uturn is a good way to play around ogerpon common checks, and taunt to stop recovery for mon, set up for slower mons like Gouging Fire :gouging-fire: or Dragonite :dragonite:. We play horn leech to give him a way of recovery and a way to have a better longetivity.

Last, our favorite Sucker mon, the king of mind games, Kingambit :kingambit:. Here we goes for the tera blast version to lure Zamazenta, and tusk mainly which are two big checks to excadrill. Fairy will help a lot vs Iron Valiant who is one the most threatening mon for the team. Fairy is a good defensive type overall that can help to get rid off steel or dark weaknesses.

Tips :

Dont be afraid to lose the sand, Excadrill :excadrill: can do the job without sand. Tyranitar will be, on a majority of game, the first mon that will die. Keeping it is only useful vs other weather, especially vs sun, which is more tricky than rain.
Keep your tera as much as possible, Tera on this team is use on a defensive purpose OR on kingambit on late game. Accept to let your mon die, it's not a big deal, you still have a ton of options.
Last, your opp didnt know Exca is Sand Force (it will if he knows the team but that's life...), you can go for bluff and scare your opp with Exca on some mons like Enamorus :enamorus: or Iron Valiant :Iron-Valiant:

Threats :

:gouging-fire: : This mon is the scariest shit for the team, it can pretty easily snowball the team if you're not careful, Tera gets rid of his common weakness, making it very hard to revenge kill. You need to not allow him to send fire on your corvi, Taunt him when Ogerpon is on the field, you need to accept losing mon vs Gouging Fire

:volcarona: : You see Volcarona, Keep as much the tera and use it on Ogerpon, it's the easiest way to go.

:Archaludon: Defensive version are not big deal, Corvi wall it perfectly, but on rain, you need to play around, try to fish electro shot to set up sand, and go with exca for the kill, or Tera dragapult on a dragon move.

:rotom-wash: it's hard to switch on his wow or twave, you dont want to be twave on dragapult, and also, levitate stop excadrill to spam Eq, it's one of the mon that Ttar cant get rid off, Koff is a good way to go but be careful.

:Garganacl: The hardest mon to deal with if he starts to set-up or tera, get rid of lefties, playing with Ogerpon and Kingambit on lategame to gain power with Supreme Overload are the only way to go throught the Salt wall.

:Deoxys-Speed: This one is a little special, leads set are no big deal, offensive one are a problem because... You cant outspeed him !! (Yeah it's sucks), Tera fight can be used to take a sucker and kill your gambit, you have no SI with LO set, you will lose a mon, so play with the recoil and sand damage and try to RK him with Ogerpon and Kingambit

:Iron Valiant: I said it in intro, when you see a Valiant, you will tera in most of the case, impossible to outspeed, sucker deal 0... Tera is the way to go before she can snowball you.

This team can beat every MU, some are harder than others but the cool advantage with it is that it can be play against a majority of the style !

If you dont want to try Sand Force, well you can just play Excadrill with sand rush, SD can be cool, baloon is a good item to beat grounds mon, you can make some adjustement with this team !

Have fun using the team !!!

Well depends, you need to scout with ttar, boots one cant 2hko corv (unless tera) so you can use corv as a pivot. + I always lead dragapult when i see a Kyurem, anyway the team outspeed him and you will pivot over him
