Creative / Underrated Sets in the UU Metagame V2

OP adapted from ginganinja. Approved by Hikari. Taken over from unfixable.

Standard and common sets are generally effective. After all, that's why they're common and standard. But sometimes a less-common set can be effective. In fact, brand-new sets can be quite effective as well. This thread is for new and creative movesets that can be quite effective, as well as old movesets that have fallen out of favor but have become quite effective in the UU metagame.

What is a new and creative, good moveset?
  • It doesn't have an analysis on site and no one uses it.
    • It successfully pulls off a role, and is not strictly outclassed by others.
    • It takes advantage of metagame trends.
    • It might be able to surprise and demolish Pokemon that normally counter the usual sets, but does not become a gimmick in order to do so.
    • It has had some success. Post replays / logs to strengthen your case.
What is an underrated, good moveset?
  • It is a set that does have an analysis on the SmogDex but it is extremely uncommon in the ladder or tournaments.
  • It is a set that doesn't have an analysis, but is fairly common (underrated enough to not have a mention on the analysis).
  • Its use is meant to prey on specific facets of the metagame.

What are some things that constitute a shitty gimmick?
  • Using a Pokemon that has no business being used in UU, for the sake of using it in UU.
  • Movesets that are inferior and ineffective compared to existing movesets, or use an obscure move for the sake of hitting an even more obscure check or counter.
  • Movesets that are utterly impractacle or are horribly outclassed by another Pokemon.
  • This is an UU thread. Don't post some Lugia set.
A shitty gimmick is not limited to the above, though. To quote Potter Stewart, "I know it when I see it."

Rules:
  • NO SHITTY GIMMICKS. They don't add any positives to the discussion and only derail the thread. These posts may be subject to being deleted. Repeated offenses may result in further action. Just because this thread isn't heavily modded doesn't mean its okay to break this rule.
  • Make sure the set is actually underrated. There's no need to post a set that everyone and their mom uses. These posts are subject to the same consequences as shitty gimmicks.
  • When posting a set, use ORAS animated sprites so that it is easier for me to archive.
  • Also, be nice towards newer users, we all have been new at some point, so instead of critiquing harshly someone else's not so good suggestion, help them notice where are the flaws so they can learn and get involved with the community in a good way :]
  • Replays are extremely useful to show how your creative set works, please, provide them if possible.

I'd like for you to add some classification to the archive; separating by playstyle would be the best for now.

If you need advice on how to do this, I can illustrate via example.

Where is Pidgeot's Protect set? ):

still great to see this thread taken care n_n if u see the old set list there are things that are trends even now

I have put in incredible work with this set! You can switch it in portraying as a bulky water type and proceed to trick room. They will believe you are the common NP TR slowking and not try to burn you but toxic you etc. You then proceed to BD and sweep teams. This thing puts my teams on its back. Its unpredictability comes in clutch in many games for me. Its power of breaking down defensive walls for other mons to take over is insanely helpful for other set up sweepers to sweep late game.

I'm talking with Hikari and Sam about this and other stuff, but it definitely will get some more organization .

Goodra @ Choice Band/Life Orb
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant/Lonely Nature
- Outrage
- Power Whip
- Fire Punch/Iron tail/EQ/Superpower/Other
- Fire Punch/Iron tail/EQ/Superpower/Other
This set I found very useful during late XY and early ORAS, seeing how many blisseys/suicunes were running around. That doesn't mean this set is no longer viable or threatening. The speed ev's allow it to outspeed everything up to adamant honchkrow, while still maintaining decent bulk. This thing is actually much faster than it looks lmao, base 80. The reasoning for the moveset; outrage is obvious, STAB. Power whip for bulky waters (especially cune), fire punch would be for forretress, a real pain to this set otherwise. Iron tail would be for fairies, EQ would be coverage, for steels etc. Superpower is for things like blissey. Other moves would be thunder punch (kinda irrelevant seeing power whip), rock slide, poison tail, aqua tail, body slam (?), substitute if you want this as a suicune check, or even a special move for physical walls (though I'd recommend LO for that).
Calcs:
Florges:
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra Iron Tail vs. 252 HP / 232 Def Florges: 306-362 (85 - 100.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Florges Moonblast vs. 88 HP / 0 SpD Goodra: 158-188 (46 - 54.8%) -- 60.2% chance to 2HKO
Suicune:
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 236-278 (58.4 - 68.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 88 HP / 0 SpD Goodra: 28-33 (8.1 - 9.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever
4 SpA Suicune Ice Beam vs. 88 HP / 0 SpD Goodra: 84-100 (24.4 - 29.1%) -- 99.8% chance to 4HKO
Forretress:
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Forretress: 256-304 (72.3 - 85.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
4 Atk Forretress Gyro Ball (70 BP) vs. 88 HP / 0 Def Goodra: 93-111 (27.1 - 32.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
Blissey
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 650-766 (91 - 107.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 487-574 (68.2 - 80.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
Cress:
252+ Atk Choice Band Goodra Outrage vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Cresselia: 171-202 (38.5 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery (not very impressive I know)

Tyrantrum @ Hard Stone
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Head Smash
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Filler

This set has worked quite well for me over the course of a few games. Stealth Rock Tyrantrum abuses the amount of switches, Protects and predictions it causes. Hard Stone can basically bluff Choice Band decently enough, (252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 232 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 255-301 (48.2 - 56.8%) -- 36.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery / 252 Atk Choice Band Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 232 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 289-342 (54.6 - 64.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery) as a high roll from Adamant usually has the same result as a low roll from Jolly Choice Band. You can use this to your advantage, especially with coverage or setup moves. For instance, you could Head Smash, lure in Cobalion and Dragon Dance. Should it be weakened, you'll have earned yourself an easy KO and potential sweep. Other good filler moves consist of Aerial Ace (I was using this on a Spike stacking squad and it lured in Chesnaught for Sharpedo), Crunch (lures in Bronzong, can weaken it for Slurpuff), Rock Polish (makes this a good cleaner), and lastly, Dragon Tail (I found this one interesting since it let me force out Pokemon attempting to Wish pass and rack up damage with the entry hazards). The forces it creates gives it ample time to use Stealth Rock, and it's also a good user of the move in my opinion, as it 2HKOes / OHKOes most of the Rapid Spin and Defog users (Gligar needs Rocks to be 2HKOed while Donphan avoids the 2HKO).

Spinners:

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Forretress: 175-207 (49.4 - 58.4%) -- 65.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Blastoise: 262-310 (72.3 - 85.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blastoise: 220-261 (60.7 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 240 HP / 244+ Def Tentacruel: 291-343 (80.6 - 95%) -- 50% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Defoggers:

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 144-169 (43.1 - 50.5%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Mandibuzz: 428-506 (101.1 - 119.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Crobat: 740-872 (198.3 - 233.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Pidgeot: 740-872 (240.2 - 283.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Aerodactyl: 704-830 (233.8 - 275.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Tyrantrum Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Empoleon: 254-300 (68.2 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Empoleon: 171-201 (45.9 - 54%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

-1 252+ Atk Hard Stone Tyrantrum Head Smash vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Salamence: 342-404 (87 - 102.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Edit: I just found out replays were needed, so here they are.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-241084151 - Showcases how Tyrantrum can abuse Protect users to setup SR and put pressure on Regen cores.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-241913357 - Doesn't showcase it too much but it shows how Tyrantrum isn't going to be simply setup fodder for Doublade and it can setup SR when being sacked against slower Pokemon that tend to switch in on Head Smash.

Unfortunately I don't have many replays, as I don't tend to save replays but should more be required I'd gladly try and get some.

Living Proof here bringing you this sexy Snorlax set I've been dabbling with:

App 4 Destruction (Snorlax) @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 144 HP / 188 Def / 156 SpD / 20 Spe
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Curse
- Crunch
- Focus Punch

Recording:

This thing is a monster. No one expects it when it comes in and they go to their counter, only to see a Sub go up at which point they have 2 options:
1) Stay in and eat a Focus Punch to the face.
2) Switch out and the switch in takes a Focus Punch to the face.

Curse is there to setup for sweeping potential to make Subs harder to break so more opportunities for uninterrupted Focus Punches on those willing to let it happen. There have been times this behemoth has soloed the opposing team or broke it down to the point of no return and allowed another Pokemon to finish things. It's EV'd to always outspeed opposing Base 30 speed pokemon. Crunch is there so Ghosts (sans Doublade) don't wall you.

You want to pair this guy up with potentially a Cleric to help get rid of status since you're giving up Rest.

Crobat @ Life Orb
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 76 HP / 252 SpA / 180 Spe
Modest Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Sludge Bomb
- Heat Wave
- Giga Drain

Nasty Plot bat is actually a pretty cool cleaner, as well as a lure for the pokemon that usually wall Crobat- Rock and Steel Types.
A +2 Giga Drain easily takes care of most rock types, while a +2 Heat Wave takes care of steel-types.

Crobat can easily set-up on pokemon like Mienshao, Heracross, and Shaymin- the usual stuff it scares out- and proceed to fire off boosted attacks from there. Its high speed gives it a chance of sweeping vs frailer teams, while its immunity to toxic and ability to break through one of the major special walls, Florges, makes it a threat to balance as well.

A nice replay:
http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-242326989

Calcs:
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Crobat Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Pidgeot: 308-363 (100.3 - 118.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Crobat Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Salamence: 308-363 (78.1 - 92.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Crobat Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Heracross: 265-313 (88 - 103.9%) -- 25% chance to OHKO

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Crobat Heat Wave vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 411-484 (128.8 - 151.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Crobat Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 120 SpD Filter Mega Aggron: 281-331 (81.6 - 96.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Crobat Giga Drain vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 484-573 (111.7 - 132.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Crobat Giga Drain vs. 200 HP / 56+ SpD Vaporeon: 255-302 (56.5 - 66.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

After talking with Hikari and Sam, we came to the conclusion that it was better to link the posts you guys write in the archive so that it is easier to find the discussion about the sets. Taking this into account, I have changed the archive so that it looks WAY cleaner and organized now having 2 sections:
  • Creative sets (they don't have analyses uploaded)
  • Underrated sets (they have analyses but are just not used enough or are overlooked)
Take note that most of the sets are from unfixable's thread, so I'm linking there for reference. On another matter, I haven't added all suggested sets, as some are outdated / bad / are no longer creative (e.g. MixMence is pretty much seen everywhere now). Also, more changes may come to the way the archive is managed as new ideas come up.

bulky rest talk torn set given to me by NV thats been fun af to use.

with the best offensive stab in the game mono attacking bulk up torn can really put in work versus unprepared teams. having access to priority bulk up lets this guy take some clutch hits then fire off the priority rest and be at full to do it all again. Channeling your inner linda with sleep talk acrobatics can be a godsend at times.

the ev spread allows it to out speed entei have nice bulk while still being able to hit hard unboosted. This guy Just pretty much wins versus stall from the games ive played once phaser went down so thats a bonus, and versus offense like i said the ability to fire off priority acrobatics off a base 115 attack stat can be clutch af

Shoutout to Lucipurrr for sharing the underrated Pokemon's set, and I finally have a team that would use that with great effect. And it's time for me to share this for the whole world to see.

Dreadscythe (Regigigas) @ Leftovers
Ability: Slow Start
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 80 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Power-Up Punch
- Knock Off
- Return

The italicized portion of this importable is actually my modification. I'll explain to you these later on.

Regigigas would have been Uber if it weren't for this ability Slow Start, which halves its Attack and Speed for five turns. Though Regigigas can't learn Protect to stall out those five cringing turns, there is another way to patch up this flaw: Substitute and Power-Up Punch. Substitute allows Regigigas to prevent any status from being fired at it, and start using Power-Up Punch from there (or keep using Substitute) until it eventually gets its act together. If Regigigas has accumulated some Attack boosts thanks to Power-Up Punch, this is where the fun begins. Return would then deal massive damage to most Pokemon (even when resisted, as long as it is boosted!). Knock Off would patch up issues with Ghost-types, as both Power-Up Punch and Return do nothing to them (unless you have something to deal with Ghost-types, then you can use Drain Punch to recover all your lost health).

Now, to explain the italicized portion: Regigigas would reach these stats after 5 turns of Slow Start: 404 HP / 460 Atk / 256 Def / 176 SpA / 257 SpD / 256 Spe. Obviously, maximizing its attack coupled with its Adamant Nature can greatly help increase its colossal Attack. With 172 HP EV's, Regigigas grants a 404 HP marker, which stops Seismic Toss users from breaking Regigigas's Substitute. 80 Speed EV's allows Regigigas to outrun max Speed, Adamant-natured Feraligatr and those who wished to outrun max Speed, Modest Nidoqueen. Finally, the remaining EV's are dumped to Special Defense, which is useful to avoid Download Pokemon from raising its Special Attack.

Complaint: "It is too slow to pull off a Substitute during Slow Start!"
Response: If that's the case, Paralysis is your best friend, and it's a must if you want Regigigas to shine.

Also, one tip: You can have a (slow) Volt Switch / U-turn user and / or (simply) switch Regigigas in, and the Slow Start turns are reduced to 4.

Iron Chefs Christo the Gr8 and xMarth have already bowed down to the lordliness of this Colossal Pokemon.

Oh my good lord, I have been messing around with that NP Crobat ManOfMany posted and it is a complete monster.

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-242763640

Sweeping straight from turn 2. The dude played amazingly bad, but the replays shows the sheer power the bat has, even when the opposing team is under Light Screen. I know this is on the 1000, but still.

EDIT: Holy cow, this thing sweeps entire teams alone lmfao http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-242765684 (almost)
Crobat has access to infiltrator which bypasses screens. This replay shows how pathetic NP Crobat is rather than the sheer power it has imo. Can't even OHKO Roserade w/ heat wave at +2.

Timid Nature

At a glance, Dragon Tail might seem to be useless, but this isn't true; with the increase of the usage of Roar Suicune, a lot of balanced teams can't deal with Suicune using the most common Calm Mind users such as Reuniclus and Slowking. So, this set prevents Suicune from setting up by phazing it. Of course, this set should be used only when you have some problems with Suicune.

Oh, my bad. Didn't know Infiltrator did that. On the other hand, though, it has been doing its job amazingly, which is to lure Rock/Steel/Bulky Water mons and kill them so that RP Tyrantrum can sweep. That's all I needed it to do, so I still find NastyBat a great mon for that purpose.

Also, the fact that it can't OHKO Roserade with +2 Heat Wave doesn't show how pathetic it is. You have to consider that Crobat has only 70 base SpA and Rose can't do anything back to Bat anyway. Not even Specs Hydreigon can OHKO specially defensive Rose with Draco Meteor/Fire Blast even though it hits more special attack than a +2 Crobat. Hydra isn't pathetic because of that.

get on my level
instead of the belly drum unburden physical set, i say a special set with Calm Mind, Dazzling Gleam, Energy Ball/Flamethrower/Psychic/Thunderbolt/Surf with Petaya Berry
From the OP:
  • When posting a set, use ORAS animated sprites so that it is easier for me to archive.
    • Multiple replays are now required for new and creative sets.
I'd recommend you look at the other posts in this thread first, and copy their formatting when you want to suggest a new set. Btw, welcome to Smogon and I hope you enjoy your time here n_n
