Draft Corviknight

[overview]
**Draft order**: Round 4 Onwards

**Price range**: 12-13 points

**Overview**: Corviknight is a solid utility Pokemon due to its fantastic defensive typing, highly customizable bulk, and decent utility movepool. While it is excellent at supporting a team's offensive capabilities through U-turn and Defog, Corviknight struggles to deal damage due to its poor offensive stats and is liable to being setup fodder due to its lack of Toxic or phasing moves. Despite facing stiff competition as a pivot, Corviknight still has a decent niche in enabling offensively drafted teams by being a slow pivot and providing secondary hazard removal.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Defensive Pivot**: Corviknight's primary role is to pivot into opposing attackers and safely bring in your own. This set is generally run with heavy defensive investment, tailored to your opponent's draft, and minimum Speed. The combination of Roost, U-turn, and Defog allows it to pivot in and potentially remove hazards multiple times per game. Brave Bird is usually the best attacking move for Corviknight, but Drill Peck, Iron Head, Body Press, or some combination of the aforementioned moves are alternatives depending on the matchup.

**Setup Sweeper**: Corviknight is capable of using its high natural bulk to set up on slower threats or weak attackers with Bulk Up or Iron Defense. Once opposing Fire- and Electric-type attackers are significantly weakened or removed, Corviknight can become nearly impossible to deal with once it is set up and can close out games.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Brave Bird, Iron Head, Drill Peck

**Setup moves**: Bulk Up, Iron Defense

**Utility moves**: Roost, Defog, U-turn, Taunt

**Coverage**: Body Press

Niche Moves
========
**Light Screen / Reflect**: Corviknight has access to dual screens, allowing it to forgo its usual utility in favor of supporting teammates with dual screens and safe entry with U-turn.

**Agility and Power Trip**: A combination of Agility, Bulk Up, and Power Trip can turn Corviknight into a fearsome sweeper in the right matchup. This set may also utilize Weakness Policy to forgo the necessary turns spent using Bulk Up to strengthen Power Trip.

**Tailwind**: Corviknight can provide speed control to its teammates with Tailwind + U-turn.

Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers supplements Corviknight's reliable recovery with Roost and is more effective in keeping it healthy with reliable hazard removal or on setup sets.

**Rocky Helmet**: Rocky Helmet is usually Corviknight's only option to chip opposing Pokemon using U-turn or Flip Turn. Rocky Helmet can also help Corviknight win some one-on-one matchups where physical contact is expected, such as versus Palafin and Great Tusk.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: While Corviknight enjoys an immunity to Spikes and Toxic Spikes, its Stealth Rock neutrality limits its ability to pivot and Defog; Heavy-Duty Boots removes this limitation and has more free turns to use Roost and Defog.

Niche Items
========
**Eject Button**: As Corviknight can often find itself switching into a U-turn only to be faced with an incoming powerful Fire- or Electric-type, Eject Button allows Corviknight to safely pivot out and steal the momentum back once in a battle.

**Weakness Policy**: Corviknight can utilize its mixed bulk to tank a super effective attack such as Volt Switch or a weak Flamethrower and use Agility, turning it into a deadly sweeper.

**Light Clay**: Only used with dual screens, Light Clay allows Corviknight's screens to stick on the field longer for its teammates.

**Red Card**: Red Card is another option to stop opposing setup sweepers from taking advantage of Corviknight.

Tera
========
Corviknight should rarely be considered as a Tera Captain due to its already excellent defensive typing. Carefully consider the matchup if you must use Corviknight as a Tera user, as Terastallization will either get rid of its immunity to grounded entry hazards or gain a new weakness to Stealth Rock. Corviknight should only consider Tera on offensive sets, giving a new defensive typing that grants it more time to set up for a sweep. Tera Dark is one option, as it boosts the damage dealt by Power Trip, while Tera Flying is another option that can increase damage dealt by Brave Bird.

Draft Strategy
========
Corviknight is best drafted on offensively-oriented teams after you have first secured several premier attacking threats. Due to its strengths in typing, bulk, and non-requirement for Tera, it is extremely versatile with the types of attacking threats you choose to surround it with, as it rarely overlaps roles with most offensive Pokemon. Since it has little way to combat setup and is unable to spread Toxic, it typically performs poorly on more balanced and defensively-oriented teams, so keep this in mind when drafting Corviknight.

**Offensive Partners**: Corviknight tends to draw out opposing Fire- and Electric-type Pokemon, making Ground-type Pokemon good partners for Corviknight to pivot in. Pokemon like Garchomp and Great Tusk are excellent partners, as they are able to immediately threaten out opposing Fire- and Electric-types and attack or set up hazards. Thanks to Corviknight's low Speed, it is also able to offer support to frail and powerful wallbreakers like Chi-Yu, Iron Valiant, and Enamorus.

**Defensive Partners**: As Corviknight is vulnerable to being set up on and cannot punish with phasing or Toxic, it often appreciates partners that can fill these roles. Defensively, Unaware users such as Clodsire, Dondozo, and Skeledirge make decent partners to halt opposing setup sweepers. Corviknight also appreciates partners that can cover one or more of its weaknesses and use phasing moves, such as Iron Hands or and Hippowdon.

**Hazard Control**: Corviknight is one of the most reliable Defoggers, but it rarely can function as a team's primary form of hazard control due to its relatively passive nature and often gets in the way of maintaining your own hazards. Defogging also often results in a huge loss of momentum, which is generally unadvisable for offensive teams. Corviknight enjoys having a teammate with Rapid Spin such as Great Tusk or Donphan to remove Stealth Rock, enabling items other than Heavy-Duty Boots.

Checks and Counters
========
**Setup Sweepers**: Corviknight's low Speed and lack of Toxic and Whirlwind open it up to being taken advantage of by faster setup sweepers, where Corviknight can only attempt to punish them with a slower Taunt or pivot to a teammate to handle the threat.

**Fire-type attackers**: Corviknight can often do little in the face of opposing Fire-types, taking massive damage and risking a burn from most Fire-type attacks, further reducing its poor offensive output. It is often fodder for Pokemon such as Gouging Fire and Chi-Yu, which can proceed to set up with Dragon Dance or launch powerful attacks and threaten to OHKO Corviknight.

**Electric-type attackers**: Electric-types resist both of Corviknights STAB types and can punish Corviknight with their powerful STAB moves or generate momentum through Volt Switch. Pokemon like Zapdos and Rotom-W threaten to OHKO or severely damage Corviknight, and Pokemon like Raging Bolt can easily set up Calm Mind in front of its face.

**Taunt**: Faster Pokemon are able to deny Corviknight's support moves with Taunt, stopping it from Defogging, using Roost, or setting up.

[overview]
**Draft order**: 4th to 5th round Change to "Round 4 onwards"
**Price range**: 12-13 points

**Overview**: Corviknight is a solid utility Pokemon in the draft metagame due to several aspects such as its fantastic defensive typing, highly customizable bulk, and decent utility movepool. No longer the defensive juggernaut and premier defogger it used to be in the weaker metagame of Sword & Shield, Corviknight has seen itself sliding down draft boards in Scarlet & Violet due to its relative passivity in this fast metagame. Remove the start & explain why it's passive - lack of phazing ability, struggles doing damage, etc Despite facing stiff competition as a pivot in the draft metagame, Corviknight still has a decent niche in enabling offensively drafted teams by being a slow pivot and providing additional hazard control to supplement the format'(add apostrophe)s more premier removers.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Role 1**: Defensive Pivot: Incomplete sentence, start with "This is..." or something The most straightforward set that Corviknight usually employs. This set is generally run with maximum HP EVs and a heavy investment on defense or special defense, depending on the types of threats Corviknight is meant to switch in on. The combination of Roost, U-turn, and Defog allow it to remain healthy for a decent period of time in matches and remove hazards for its teammates. Brave Bird is typically run in the fourth moveslot as it is able to deal decent damage due to its high base power, but Drill Peck or Iron Head can be alternatives if the match demands you avoid recoil damage, but are otherwise generally inferior to Brave Bird. Body Press is a decent option to consider when Corviknight is physically defensive. Way to shorten the end - "Drill Peck, Iron Head, and Body Press are alternatives depending on the matchup, but are generally inferior to Brave Bird's higher base damage."

**Role 2**: Setup Sweeper: The less common of sets, Corviknight is capable of using its high natural bulk to Taunt or begin setting up on slower threats or weak attackers with Bulk Up or Iron Defense. Once opposing Fire- or Electric-type attackers are significantly weakened or removed, Corviknight can become near impossible to deal with once it is set up and can close out games.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Brave Bird, Iron Head, Drill Peck

**Setup moves**: Bulk Up, Iron Defense

**Utility moves**: Roost, Defog, Taunt

**Coverage**: Body Press, U-turn, Power Trip

Niche Moves
========
**Light Screen / Reflect**: Corviknight has access to dual screens, where it may forgo some of its more common utility or coverage moves to support its teammates by setting screens and then U-Turning to a setup sweeper. add space between moves - same for other bullets below
**Agility**: A combination of Agility, Bulk Up, and Power Trip can turn Corviknight into a fearsome sweeper if there is a well-timed matchup for this set. This set may also utilize Weakness Policy to forgo the necessary turns spent using Bulk Up to strengthen Power Trip.

Is Tailwind worth a mention? It's not great but it's something I guess especially to pivot into something that can use the speed. Also Rain Dance is probably worth mentioning to stop sun teams

Common Items
========
**Rocky Helmet**: Rocky Helmet is usually Corviknight's only option to chip opposing Pokemon using U-turn or Flip Turn. Rocky Helmet may also help Corviknight win some 1-on-1 matchups where physical contact is expected, such as versus Palafin or Great Tusk.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: While Corviknight enjoys an immunity to Spikes and Toxic Spikes thanks to its part Flying-type, it remains neutral to Stealth Rocks (It's Stealth Rock, no "s" at the end) and may find itself at risk of being 2HKOed on a switch vs many of the format's offensive threats. Heavy-Duty Boots can ensure Corviknight survives these threats to pivot out safely or recover with Roost. Move lefties over boots imo, they're used more frequently

**Leftovers**: Leftovers supplements Corviknight's reliable recovery with Roost, and is more effective in keeping it healthy if you are able to keep Stealth Rocks off your side of the field, or plan on staying on the field and setting up. However, If Corviknight is usually expected to be quickly pivoting or will not stay on the field for more than 2 turns, Heavy-Duty Boots is the superior item of choice.

Niche Items
========
**Eject Button**: As Corviknight can often find itself switching into a U-turn only to be punished with an incoming powerful Fire- or Electric-type, Eject Button can allow Corviknight to safely pivot out and steal the momentum back once in a battle.
**Weakness Policy**: Corviknight can utilize its mixed bulk to tank a super-effective attack such as Volt Switch or a coverage Flamethrower and click Agility, turning it into a deadly sweeper.
**Light Clay**: Only used with dual screens, Light Clay allows Corviknight's screens to stick on the field longer for its teammates.
**Choice Scarf**: A Choice Scarf allows Corviknight to reach 384 speed with a Jolly nature, allowing it to surprise many of the formats top metagame threats, and score OHKOes or pivot out safely with U-turn. Some examples include OHKOing Meowscarda with U-turn, non-speed boosting Iron Valiant with Brave Bird, or dealing over half to Greninja and safely U-turning out of danger.

Red Card might be worth mentioning to stop sweepers that can't ohko it - maybe too niche though
Resist berries also should be mentioned

Tera
========
Corviknight should rarely be considered as a Tera user for your team due to its already excellent defensive typing. Carefully consider the matchup if you must use Corviknight as a Tera user, as Terastallization will either get rid of immunity to grounded entry hazards or gain a new weakness to Stealth Rock. Due to these reasons, an offensive setup Corviknight is the only recommended set for Terastallization, giving a new defensive typing that grants it more time to set up for a sweep. Tera Dark is one option, as it boosts the damage dealt by Power Trip. Tera Flying is another option that can increase damage dealt by Brave Bird.

Draft Strategy
========
Corviknight debuted in a much weaker offensive metagame in Sword & Shield, where it was one of the format's premier defensive Pokemon. Thanks to the addition of a slew of powerful new attackers and the Terastallization mechanic in Scarlet & Violet, Corviknight can rarely afford to give many opposing Pokemon a free turn, which narrows the scope of teams it functions well on. As such, Corviknight is best drafted on offensively-oriented teams after you have first secured several premier attacking threats. It is a great offense enabler thanks to the typing and bulk it possesses, allowing it to take a hit and safely pivot in your offensive threats with U-turn.

**Teammates**: Be more specific than "teammates" - for example "wallbreakers" - I'd split into wallbreakers/setup sweepers & defensive partners as two separate sections Corviknight is usually expected to switch in to many threats and, despite having access to U-turn, can find itself behind in a pivoting cycle versus faster threats and end up stuck on the field staring down a dangerous breaker or setup threat that it can ill-afford to be facing. Defensive partners that handle Fire- and Electric-types are nigh mandatory for Corviknight, so it fits well on teams with strong Ground- or Dragon-types like Garchomp, Landorus-Therian, or Latios.

**Hazard Control**: Corviknight is one of the most reliable defoggers in Scarlet & Violet, but it rarely can function as a teams primary form of hazard control due to its relatively passive nature, and often gets in the way of maintaining your own hazards. Defogging also often results in a huge loss of momentum, which is generally unadvisable for offensive teams. Corviknight enjoys having a teammate with Rapid Spin to remove Stealth Rocks, preserving its HP on switchin and enabling items other than Heavy-Duty Boots.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fire-type attackers**: Corviknight can often do little in the face of opposing Fire-types, taking super-effective damage and risking a burn from most Fire-type attacks, further reducing its poor offensive output. It is often setup fodder for Pokemon such as Gouging Fire or Chi-Yu, who can proceed to setup with Dragon Dance or launch powerful special Fire-type moves and threaten to OHKO Corviknight.
**Electric-type attackers**: Electric types resist both of Corviknights STABS, and punish Corviknight with their powerful STAB electric moves or generate momentum through Volt Switch. Pokemon like Zapdos or Rotom-Wash threaten to nearly OHKO Corviknight, and threats like Raging Bolt can easily set up Calm Minds in front of its face. However, weaker Electric-type moves should be careful of setting off a Weakness Policy Corviknight, as it can immediately turn Corviknight into a dangerous sweeper after an Agility boost. Too niche & already mentioned above
**Taunt**: Faster Pokemon are able to deny Corviknight's support moves with Taunt, stopping it from Defogging or Roosting, or setting up.
**Setup Sweepers**: Corviknight's low speed and lack of access to Toxic or Whirlwind open it up to be abused by faster setup sweepers, where Corviknight can only attempt to punish them with a slower Taunt or pivot to a teammate to handle the threat. Move this to the top - It's probably corvi's biggest weakness

Draft Strategy

(focus on corviknight in current gen, oldgens for these arent rly relevant. also dont really see how tera is relevant to mention here or the addition of powerful new attackers)

**Offensive Partners**: Corviknight tends to draw out opposing Fire- and Electric-type Pokemon, making Ground-type Pokemon good partners for Corviknight to pivot in with its U-turn. Pokemon like Garchomp or Great Tusk are excellent partners, as they are able to immediately threaten out opposing Fire- and Electric-types and attack or set up hazards. Thanks to Corviknight's low speed, it is also able to offer support to frail and powerful wallbreakers to pivot in safely after the opponent's Pokemon have attacked; partners like Chi-Yu, Iron Valiant, or Enamorus appreciate being brought in safely to fire off their powerful attacks

**Defensive Partners**: As Corviknight is vulnerable to being set up on and cannot punish with phasing or putting opposing Pokemon on a timer with Toxic, it often appreciates partners who can fill these roles. Defensively, Unaware users are able to ignore the stat boosts of Pokemon attempting to setup on Corviknight, making Pokemon such as Clodsire, Dondozo, or Skeledirge decent partners. Skeledirge deserves special mention as it is less passive than the other Unaware Pokemon due to Torch Song boosting its special attack stat. Corviknight also appreciates partners who can cover one or more of its weaknesses and click phasing moves, such as Iron Hands or Hippowdon with Whirlwind.

**Price range**: 12-13 points

**Overview**: Corviknight is a solid utility Pokemon due to several aspects such as its fantastic defensive typing, highly customizable bulk, and decent utility movepool. While it is excellent at supporting a team's offensive capabilities through U-turn and Defog, Corviknight struggles to deal damage due to its poor offensive stats and is liable to being setup fodder for opposing Pokemon due to its lack of access to Toxic or phasing moves. Despite facing stiff competition as a pivot in the draft metagame, Corviknight still has a decent niche in enabling offensively drafted teams by being a slow pivot and providing Defog support to supplement the format's more premier removers. I don't understand the end of this sentence, are you saying it needs to be run with other entry hazard removers? If yes, "...and providing secondary entry hazard removal."

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Role 1**: Defensive Pivot: **Defensive Pivot**: Corviknight's primary role is to pivot into opposing attackers and safely bring in your own. This set is generally run with maximum HP EVs and a heavy investment on defense or special defense, depending on the types of threats Corviknight is meant to switch in on heavy defensive investment, tailored to your opponent's draft, and minimum Speed. The combination of Roost, U-turn, and Defog allow allows it to remain healthy for a decent period of time in matches and remove hazards for its teammates pivot in and potentially remove hazards multiple times per game. Brave Bird is the ideal usually the best attacking move for Corviknight, but Drill Peck, Iron Head, Body Press, or some combination of the aforementioned moves are alternatives depending on the matchup; however they are generally inferior to Brave Bird due to their substantially lower base power. already stated in the first half of the sentence

**Role 2**: Setup Sweeper: **Setup Sweeper**: Corviknight is capable of using its high natural bulk to Taunt or begin setting set up on slower threats or weak attackers with Bulk Up or Iron Defense. Taunt was out of place in this sentence; if it's necessary in this paragraph, ping me on discord and we can figure it out Once opposing Fire- or and Electric-type attackers are significantly weakened or removed, Corviknight can become nearly impossible to deal with once it is set up and can close out games.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB moves**: Brave Bird, Iron Head, Drill Peck

**Setup moves**: Bulk Up, Iron Defense

**Utility moves**: Roost, Defog, U-turn, Taunt

**Coverage**: Body Press, U-turn, Power Trip okay this is a QC change, but I cleared it with autumn

Niche Moves
========
**Light Screen / Reflect**: Corviknight has access to dual screens, where it may forgo some of its more common utility or coverage moves to support its teammates by setting screens and then U-Turning to a setup sweeper allowing it to forgo its usual utility in favor of supporting teammates with dual screens and safe entry with U-turn.

**Agility and Power Trip**: A combination of Agility, Bulk Up, and Power Trip can turn Corviknight into a fearsome sweeper if there is a well-timed matchup for this set in the right matchup. This set may also utilize Weakness Policy to forgo the necessary turns spent using Bulk Up to strengthen Power Trip.

**Tailwind**: Corviknight can provide speed control to its teammates with its access to Tailwind + U-turn.

Common Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers supplements Corviknight's reliable recovery with Roost, (rc) and is more effective in keeping it healthy if you are able to keep Stealth Rock off your side of the field, or plan on staying on the field and setting up with reliable hazard removal or on setup sets. However, If Corviknight is usually expected to be quickly pivoting or will not stay on the field for more than 2 turns, Heavy-Duty Boots is the superior item of choice.

**Rocky Helmet**: Rocky Helmet is usually Corviknight's only option to chip opposing Pokemon using U-turn or Flip Turn. Rocky Helmet can also help Corviknight win some one-on-one matchups where physical contact is expected, such as versus Palafin or and Great Tusk.

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: While Corviknight enjoys an immunity to Spikes and Toxic Spikes thanks to its part Flying-type, it remains neutral to Stealth Rock and may find itself at risk of being 2HKOed on a switch vs many of the format's offensive threats Spikes, its Stealth Rock neutrality limits its ability to pivot and Defog; Heavy-Duty Boots removes this limitation and has more free turns to use Roost and Defog. Heavy-Duty Boots can ensure Corviknight survives these threats to pivot out safely or recover with Roost.

Niche Items
========
**Eject Button**: As Corviknight can often find itself switching into a U-turn only to be faced with an incoming powerful Fire- or Electric-type, Eject Button can allow allows Corviknight to safely pivot out and steal the momentum back once in a battle.

**Weakness Policy**: Corviknight can utilize its mixed bulk to tank a super-effective super effective attack such as Volt Switch or a coverage weak Flamethrower and click use Agility, turning it into a deadly sweeper.

**Light Clay**: Only used with dual screens, Light Clay allows Corviknight's screens to stick on the field longer for its teammates.

**Red Card**: Another Red Card is another option to stop opposing setup sweepers to overcome Corviknight's inability to phase opposing Pokemon from taking advantage of Corviknight.

Tera
========
Corviknight should rarely be considered as a Tera user for your team Tera Captain due to its already excellent defensive typing. Carefully consider the matchup if you must use Corviknight as a Tera user, as Terastallization will either get rid of its immunity to grounded entry hazards or gain a new weakness to Stealth Rock. Due to these reasons, an offensive setup Corviknight is the only recommended set for Terastallization Corviknight should only consider Tera on offensive sets, giving a new defensive typing that grants it more time to set up for a sweep. Tera Dark is one option, as it boosts the damage dealt by Power Trip. Trip, while Tera Flying is another option that can increase damage dealt by Brave Bird.

Draft Strategy
========
Since it has little way to combat set up setup and is unable to spread Toxic, it typically performs poorly on more balanced or and defensively-oriented teams, so keep this in mind when drafting Corviknight.

**Offensive Partners**: Corviknight tends to draw out opposing Fire- and Electric-type Pokemon, making Ground-type Pokemon good partners for Corviknight to pivot in with its U-turn. Pokemon like Garchomp or and Great Tusk are excellent partners, as they are able to immediately threaten out opposing Fire- and Electric-types and attack or set up hazards. Thanks to Corviknight's low speed Speed, it is also able to offer support to frail and powerful wallbreakers to pivot in safely after the opponent's Pokemon have attacked; partners like Chi-Yu, Iron Valiant, or and Enamorus. (ap) appreciate being brought in safely to fire off their powerful attacks

**Defensive Partners**: As Corviknight is vulnerable to being set up on and cannot punish with phasing or putting opposing Pokemon on a timer with Toxic, it often appreciates partners who that can fill these roles. Defensively, Unaware users are able to ignore the stat boosts of Pokemon attempting to setup on Corviknight, making Pokemon such as Clodsire, Dondozo, or and Skeledirge decent partners to halt opposing setup sweepers. Corviknight also appreciates partners who that can cover one or more of its weaknesses and click use phasing moves, such as Iron Hands or and Hippowdon with Whirlwind.

**Hazard Control**: Corviknight is one of the most reliable defoggers in Scarlet & Violet Defoggers, but it rarely can function as a teams team's primary form of hazard control due to its relatively passive nature, (rc) and often gets in the way of maintaining your own hazards. Defogging also often results in a huge loss of momentum, which is generally unadvisable for offensive teams. Corviknight enjoys having a teammate with Rapid Spin such as Great Tusk or Donphan to remove Stealth Rock, preserving its HP on switchin and enabling items other than Heavy-Duty Boots.

**Setup Sweepers**: Corviknight's low speed Speed and lack of access to Toxic or Toxic and Whirlwind open it up to be abused being taken advantage of by faster setup sweepers, where Corviknight can only attempt to punish them with a slower Taunt or pivot to a teammate to handle the threat.

**Fire-type attackers**: Corviknight can often do little in the face of opposing Fire-types, taking super-effective massive damage and risking a burn from most Fire-type attacks, further reducing its poor offensive output. It is often fodder for Pokemon such as Gouging Fire or and Chi-Yu, who which can proceed to setup set up with Dragon Dance or launch powerful special Fire-type moves and attacks and threaten to OHKO Corviknight.

**Electric-type attackers**: Electric-types (ah) resist both of Corviknights STABS, STAB types and can punish Corviknight with their powerful STAB electric moves or generate momentum through Volt Switch. Pokemon like Zapdos or and Rotom-Wash threaten to OHKO or severely damage Corviknight, and Pokemon like Raging Bolt can easily set up Calm Minds Mind in front of its face.

**Taunt**: Faster Pokemon are able to deny Corviknight's support moves with Taunt, stopping it from Defogging or Roosting, or setting up Defogging, using Roost, or setting up.
