Name of the Pokemon: Tyranitar-Mega
Roles: Hazard Setter, Physical Wallbreaker
Type:
/
Abilities: Battle Armor / Rough Skin /
Technician
Stats: 90 / 155 / 90 / 85 / 90 / 110 (620 BST)
Movepool Additions: Spikes, Dragon Darts, Bullet Punch, Gear Grind
Movepool Removals: Dragon Dance
Justification: Tyranitar's useful typing allows it to defeat almost all of our hazard removers, such as Weezing-Galar, Gligar, Salamence and Dunsparce and the high power of its moves after Technician plus its typing giving it a ton of resistances guarantees it will be able to set up spikes easily. Thanks to its boatloads of coverage, it can easily mix and match its set to take care of any specific threat (e.g. Aerial Ace for the Unowns, Shaymins, and Scrafty, Bulldoze for Orbeetle and Dhelmise, and Rock Tomb for Flying-types). However, this also gives it severe 4MSS, as it cannot fit all of these moves at once, meaning it will always lose to a specific threat. It also has a much-needed check in Zacian, as well as Seismitoad, Scrafty and Galarian Weezing. Lastly, despite its great typing, its bulk is average at best, meaning it can lose to threats it would otherwise check easily, such as Victreebel, Necrozma, and Centiskorch.
Name of the Pokemon: Froslass
Roles: Hail Setter, Aurora Veil, Suicide Lead
Type:
/
Abilities: Cursed Body /
Snow Warning
Stats: 84 / 70 / 83 / 105 / 95 / 148 (585 BST)
Movepool Additions: Aurora Veil, Freeze-Dry, Teleport
Movepool Removal: Spikes
Justification: Froslass's blazing speed makes it the fastest Pokemon in the metagame, being 8 Speed points higher than Unown-S. From there, it can proceed to quickly set up Aurora Veil for the multitude of sweepers in the metagame, then quickly switch out. Its Special Attack, while definitely not great by any means, allows it to deal some damage to the Ground, Grass, and Dragon types in the meta, in particular dissuading pokemon like Salamence, Victreebel, Skymin and Seismitoad from coming in. Unfortunately, its typing leaves it weak to hazards, but if it runs Heavy Duty Boots to counteract this, then the rest of the team may miss out on valuable Aurora Veil turns. Being the fastest pokemon is also a curse, as another weather setter can easily switch in and override its hail, making it useless.
Name of the Pokemon: Silvally (Memories will not change it into its other forms)
Roles: Team Glue, Hazard Setter, Hazard Control, Set-up Sweeper, Set-up Stopper, Offensive Pivot, Defensive Pivot
Type:
Ability: Protean
Stats: 100 / 101 / 100 / 101 / 100 / 101 (603 BST)
Movepool Additions: Blaze Kick, Brick Break, Earthquake, Energy Ball, Seed Bomb, Sludge Bomb, Spikes
Justification: Oh man, where do I start with this? How about the fact that it can be almost every type, with a pretty deep move pool? Thanks to these aformentioned reasons, Silvally can accomplish anything, whether it be a hazard setter, hazard remover, set-up sweeper, set-up check, pivot, wall, revenge killer, etc. This in turn allows a team member to possibly free up another moveslot for something else, for instance, Stonjourner can now run Swords Dance, Dunsparce can now have space for Wish and Heal Bell, and Seismitoad can use its Flare Boost set more easily. This makes it a perfect spot on any team. Downsides include relatively average stats even with Protean, and extreme 4MSS.
Name of the Pokemon: Klinklang
Roles: Team Glue, Set-up Sweeper, Offensive Pivot, Hazard Setter
Type:
/
Abilities: Clear Body / Steam Engine /
Levitate
Stats: 90 / 120 / 115 / 115 / 95 / 95 (630 BST)
Movepool Additions: Spark, Zing Zap, Volt Tackle, Overdrive, Spikes, Nasty Plot, Power Gem, Earthquake, Superpower, Focus Blast
Justification: Hey look, a Steel-type that can attack from both sides and being able to set hazards as well! Klinklang has a great type combination that easily takes care of many Steel-type checks, like Walrein, Orbeetle, and Torkoal. Its coverage is pretty decent, allowing it to hit pokemon like Runerigus, Dubwool, and Salamence super effectively. Levitate also helps it check the aforementioned Runerigus, Gumshoos and Snorlax. It is reliant on set-up moves, however, to pose an offensive threat, and it can be revenge killed by Zacian, Cherrim, while being walled by Seismitoad and Centiskorch.
