Magnezone @ Choice Specs

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Tri Attack / Thunder
- Volt Switch

[SET COMMENTS]

Magnezone is a bulky Choice Specs user that serves as a wallbreaker for Electric teams, since its ability Analytic boosts its moves’ damage against faster foes and punishes switches made by Fairy-type Pokemon. Flash Cannon hits Fairy- and Ice-type threats like Hatterene, Clefable, Frosmoth, and Alolan Ninetales, which are forced out due to Magnezone’s decent bulk and their inability to set up on it. Tri Attack is used to hit Pokemon that resist Magnezone’s STAB moves, a prime example being Thundurus-T. Thunder guarantees an OHKO Empoleon and Toxapex in rain. Volt Switch is a must-have move, as it allows Magnezone to pivot out of a predicted switch-in like Heatran.

Rotom-W is an outstanding teammate for Magnezone, as it is immune to Ground-type attacks and has access to Hydro Pump to check Ground- and Fire-type threats such as Ursaluna-B, Great Tusk, and Volcarona. Sandy Shocks supports Magnezone by setting entry hazards while also hitting Fire- and Steel-type threats like Heatran, Gholdengo, and Archaludon with its Ground-type STAB moves. Zapdos can scare off Fighting-types such as Iron Valiant, Great Tusk, and Iron Defense Zamazenta. After a Swords Dance, Iron Hands can take care of Ting-Lu and Hisuian Goodra, which would both wall Magnezone. Pawmot is another supporting teammate that can help break said walls while also getting rid of Chien-Pao and Kingambit with Mach Punch; it can also provide massive support with Revival Blessing. Raging Bolt’s Thunderclap helps remove Barraskewda, Urshifu-R, and Keldeo from the playing field, which are all major threats to Magnezone if not dealt with quickly. In return, Magnezone can help get rid of Fairy-type threats for Raging Bolt such as Clefable and Hatterene. Galvantula helps slow down Pokemon for Magnezone with Sticky Web. Regieleki can remove hazards for Magnezone with Rapid Spin while also taking out fast threats like Flutter Mane with Wild Charge.

Wow the more I get into this, the more I realize how bad Magnezone is NOW than what it was before, and how reliant it is on its teammates to actually do something. It’s kind of sad

Magnezone is a bulky Choice Specs user that serves as an
offensive bulky pivot wallbreaker for Electric- teams due to its ability Analytic to boost the moves damage output, This doesn't really apply much since it doesn't have the bulk to live a lot of attacks from common pokemon and it’s multiple STAB moves that can help it switch out before a Ground-Type comes in. You won't be able to pivot out with Volt Switch when a ground type switches in Thunderbolt is an important move on Magnezone as it hits Flying- threats in Corviknight, Charizard, and Galarian Zapdos, who would all otherwise threaten Magnezone with their STAB moves. It also Hits Water-Types such as Slowbro, Hisuian Samurott, and Dondozo for super effective damage and possible paralyzation too. Fluff since this is an electric team so practically every mon has electric moves Flash Cannon hits Rock-Type pokemon such as Kleavor, Iron Boulder, and Diancie, and Fairy-Type threats in Enamorus, Grimmsnarl, Iron Valiant, and Alolan Ninetales, and Ice-Types such as Chien-Pao, Froslass, and Articuno, who all would hate to be forced out due to Magnezone decent bulk stomaching their moves and inability to setup. The only real targets of Flash Cannon are fairies and bulky ice types since rocks pack ground modest to ko mag and pao just straight out obliterates you with fighting coverage. Enamorus isn't a good example since it has earth power Tri-Attack has a slight chance to status the Pokemon it hits. This would be bad for pokemon such as Milotic, Scizor, and Corviknight, forcing the three of them to switch out for coverage. Thanks to Analytic, Magnezone can also run Mirror Coat to hit Fighting-Type threats such as Zamazenta, Iron Valiant, and Hisuian Sneasler Super Effectively due to Magnezone’s subtle physical bulk. Change the example since you already remove them with tbolt Volt Switch is a must have on Magnezone as it allows Magnezone to pivot out of a very unfavorable matchup that isn’t a Ground-Type pokemon. This EV spread helps Magnezone make good use of its Analytic boosted moves while also keeping momentum for the team that it is on. Magnezone however, isn’t as good as it used to be as a bulky specs user due to losing a ton of its coverage in later generations, and with newer pokemon coming into the scene, it leaves Magnezone with more threats than it did before. Therefore, Magnezone is heavily reliant on its teammates to take of its weaknesses for it so that it can make use of its ability and power. Fluff no need to explain Max Max ev spreads

Rotom-Wash is an outstanding team for Magnezone as it has access to both the ability Levitate, and Hydro Pump to hit Ground-Type threats in Ursaluna-B, Great Tusk, and Garchomp who would all OHKO Magnezone with their Ground- STAB moves. Hydro Pump also hits Fire-t Type threats in Hisuian Arcanine, Volcarona, and Blaziken, who again would all threaten and take advantage of Magnezone. Merge the two sentences together and also mention levitate Sandy Shocks is another good teammate for Magnezone as it can hit the aforementioned Fire-Type threats to Magnezone with its Ground STAB, and also hit Poison-Types like Clodsire and Toxicroak who can both KO Magnezone in a heartbeat. Just mention the poison types since you have a resist against them Thundurus and Thundurus-T and both very good options for Magnezone as they can both hit both of Magnezone’s Fighting- and Ground- threats with their coverage moves in Grass Knot and Psychic respectively. Zapdos is a much better option After a Swords Dance, Iron Hands can take care of Ting-Lu and Hisuian Goodra who would both wall Magnezone, while also dealing with Gholdengo with Earthquake. Pawmot is also another Electric / Fighting teammate that can help break said walls while also dealing with special walls in Clodsire and Galarian Slowking, that Magnezone has a very hard time trying to break through add revival blessing. Raging Bolt’s Electric priority move Thunderclap helps remove Barraskewda, Skarmory, and Staraptor There are better examples like Urshifu-R and keld from the playing field who all pose as a major threat to Magnezone if not dealt with quickly. Galvantula helps slow down pokemon for Magnezone via Sticky Web, if Magnezone chooses not to run Mirror Coat. Not to mention it holds a nice Ground resistance.

Edit: Sorry for the two separate spoiler tags smogon on mobile is kinda wacky

Tri-Attack has a slight chance to status the Pokemon it hits. This would be bad for pokemon such as Farigiraf, Scizor, and Golurk, You already remove Scizor with tbolt, and farigirad and golurk are very uncommon so change to smthing like Iron Hands forcing the three of them to switch out for coverage instead of fulfilling their roles of setting up. Thanks to Analytic, Magnezone can also run Mirror Coat to hit Fighting-Type threats such as Zamazenta, Iron Valiant, and Hisuian Sneasler Mirror Coat only works on special attackers, and valiant you can just ohko specs valiant with flash cannon Super Effectively due to Magnezone’s subtle physical bulk. Volt Switch is a must have on Magnezone as it allows Magnezone to pivot out of very unfavorable matchups like Heatran, Ursaluna-B, and Swampert Change the two of them are ground types.

Tri-Attack has a slight chance to status the Pokemon it hits and would be bad for pokemon such as Iron Hands, Iron Boulder, and Milotic, forcing the three of them to switch out for coverage instead of fulfilling their roles of setting up.(Tri-Attack main niche is just hitting things that resist Magnezone's STAB, and even then it's still not even worth as your STAB combination is hitting almost everything. Boulder has Earthquake coverage and Milotic is not even used here.) Thanks to Analytic and Magnezone’s low speed, it can also run Mirror Coat to hit special attacking threats such as Hisuian Zoroark and Gengar due to Magnezone’s subtle special bulk. Volt Switch is a must have on Magnezone as it allows Magnezone to pivot out of a predicted switch in very unfavorable matchups like Heatran and Volcanion.

Sandy Shocks is another good teammate for Magnezone as it can hit Poison-Type threats to Magnezone with its Ground STAB like Clodsire and Sneasler who can both KO Magnezone in a heartbeat. (Honestly just talk about how it provides entry hazards while also dealing with Fire- and Steel-types for Magnezone. Clod is a bad example as you lose the trade.) Zapdos is also a very good teammate for Magnezone as it can scare off Fighting-Types such as Iron Valiant, Great Tusk, and Iron Defense Zamazenta. After a Swords Dance, Iron Hands can take care of Ting-Lu and Hisuian Goodra who would both wall Magnezone, while also dealing with Gholdengo with Earthquake.(Sandy shocks can deal with Gholdengo.) (Honestly Pawmot is there to take out Chien-Pao and Kingambit with Mach Punch.) It can also provide massive support with Revival Blessing. Magnezone is a bulky Choice Specs user that serves as a wallbreaker for Electric- teams due to its ability Analytic to boost its moves damage output due to its low speed and forcing switches against Fairy- Pokemon. Flash Cannon hits Fairy-and Ice- Type threats in Hatterene, Clefable, Frosmoth, and Alolan Ninetales, who all would hate to be forced out due to Magnezone decent bulk stomaching their moves and inability to setup on it. Tri-Attack is used to hit pokemon who resist Magnezone’s STABs, prime examples being Thundurus-T Meowscarda, Hydrapple, and Scizor. Thunder demolishes Rain Teams, leaving both Water- and Flying- pokémon such as Dondozo, Barraskewda, and Celesteela, extremely vulnerable to getting KOd by it. (Celesteela is not in the game only in NDM, Barraskewda flat out koes it with CC and Dondozo is not on Rain teams.) Volt Switch is a must have on Magnezone as it allows Magnezone to pivot out of a predicted switch in like Heatran.

Rotom-Wash is an outstanding team for Magnezone as it provides Ground- immunity thanks to Levitate, and Hydro Pump to check Ground- and Fire- type threats such as Ursaluna-B, Great Tusk, and Volcarona. Sandy Shocks is another good teammate for Magnezone as it can provide entry hazards while also hitting Fire- and Steel-Type threats to Magnezone with its Ground STAB like Heatran, Gholdengo, and Archaludon Eviolite Bisharp, who can all KO Magnezone in a heartbeat. Zapdos is also a very good teammate for Magnezone as it can scare off Fighting-Types such as Slither Wing, Iron Valiant, Great Tusk, and Iron Defense Zamazenta. After a Swords Dance, Iron Hands can take care of Ting-Lu and Hisuian Goodra who would both wall Magnezone. Pawmot is also another supporting teammate that can help break said walls while also getting rid of Chien-Pao and Kingambit with Mach Punch. It can also provide massive support with Revival Blessing. Raging Bolt’s Electric priority move Thunderclap helps remove Barraskewda, Urshifu-R, and Keldeo from the playing field who all pose as a major threat to Magnezone if not dealt with quickly.

While in return, Magnezone can help get rid of Fairy- type threats for Raging Bolt such as Clefable, Gardevoir, and Hatterene. Galvantula helps slow down pokemon for Magnezone via Sticky Web. Regieleki can remove hazards for Magnezone with Rapid Spin , while also taking out fast threats like Flutter Mane with Wild Charge. Finally, Regieleki can help remove hazards for Magnezone.
