[OVERVIEW]

With an excellent Special Attack stat, decent Speed tier, and excellent offensive typing, Chandelure solidifies itself as a dangerous wallbreaker in the RU metagame. Its STAB moves hit almost the whole tier for exceptional damage, and it can help its own cause with utility moves like Toxic to further damage and strengthen Hex against threats like Togekiss and Volcanion. Furthermore, despite a shallow movepool, Chandelure has access to Energy Ball, which lets its hit Pokemon like Seismitoad, Rhyperior, and Milotic. Unfortunately, it struggles against special walls like Snorlax and Porygon2 and common Dark-types like Zarude, Incineroar, and Obstagoon either outspeed Chandelure or can take advantage of Hex and offensively pressure it.

[SET COMMENTS]

Although its fragility and typing give it limited switch-in opportunities, Chandelure's exceptional Special Attack and nearly unresisted STAB combination make it extremely difficult to switch into, and it is effective at spreading status to wear down its checks. Shadow Ball is preferred for its immediate and consistent power, but Hex can be effective to break down Fire-resistant Pokemon more quickly, especially with teammates that can spread status. Either Toxic or Will-O-Wisp can be used, although Toxic is generally preferred for its ability to inflict more damage and hit Volcanion and Incineroar. Energy Ball is useful specifically for Seismitoad, Gastrodon, and Rhyperior, OHKOing them; however, once they are statused, they require only a little chip to KO with Hex. Protect lets Chandelure scout Choice-locked switch-ins such as Flygon and stall statused foes.

Chandelure is extremely effective at forcing chip damage onto bulky Water-types, which teammates like Cobalion, Sharpedo, and Barbaracle appreciate. Togekiss and Cobalion can also switch into Dark-types that revenge kill it, and Zarude, Roserade, and Seismitoad can take on the Water-types that sometimes force it out. Since Chandelure's Hex is twice as strong against statused foes, teammates that spread status, such as Seismitoad, Togekiss, Toxic Metagross, and Toxic or Thunder Wave Cobalion, make it even more threatening. Chandelure also appreciates U-turn support, notably from Crobat and the aforementioned Zarude, to bring it into battle safely against Steel-types. Its low Speed means it can be forced out by faster special attackers, such as Raikou and Starmie. Offensive checks to them such as Choice Scarf Zarude and Celebi can therefore be useful. Knock Off users like Obstagoon, Mienshao, and the aforementioned Seismitoad can remove Heavy-Duty Boots from Pokemon that rely on it to switch into Chandelure like Noivern.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Chandelure can run utility moves like Calm Mind, Substitute, Pain Split, and Taunt, but Calm Mind requires a difficult turn of setup, Substitute results in lost HP that Chandelure can't get back, and Pain Split and Taunt can directly or indrectly cost Chandelure HP. Choice Specs Chandelure can deal even more massive damage than normal; however, it's vulnerable to Stealth Rock and other entry hazards. Using Choice Scarf lets it outspeed threats like Obstagoon, Heavy-Duty Boots Zarude, and Noivern, 2HKOing Noivern even if Stealth Rock isn't up. Flame Charge can be used to get a Speed advantage over threats like non-Choice Scarf Zarude and Mienshao, but this means that Chandelure must give up either Toxic, Energy Ball, or Protect.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Zarude, Obstagoon, and Incineroar offensively pressure Chandelure with their respective STAB moves. The latter does not want to be poisoned by Toxic, however.

**Special Walls**: Porygon2, Snorlax, and Umbreon eat up and recover from anything Chandelure sends their way. Porygon2 does not want to be hit with Toxic, though.

**Water-types**: Suicune and Milotic can shake even Energy Ball off, restore their HP, and force Chandelure out.

**Faster Revenge Killers**: Raikou, Barraskewda, and Starmie are just a few faster Pokemon that force Chandelure out due to their superior Speed.

**Dragon-types**: Regidrago, Noivern, Flygon, and Dragalge use their Fire resistance to check Chandelure and either deal significant damage to it or set up on it.

im not gonna go sentence-by-sentence but try to de-emphasize "spreading status" since we are changing the focus from hex+status move to directly dealing damage.

also, rework the move descriptions to fit the new slash order described at bottom of my reply.

Although its fragility and typing give it limited switch-in opportunities, Chandelure's exceptional Special Attack and nearly unresisted STAB combination make it extremely difficult to switch into, and it is also effective at spreading status to wear down its checks. Shadow Ball is preferred for its immediate and consistent power, but Hex can be effective to break down Fire-resistant Pokemon faster, especially with teammates that can spread status. Either Toxic or Will-O-Wisp can be used, although Toxic is generally preferred for its ability to inflict more damage and hit Volcanion and Incineroar. Will-O-Wisp can be useful to give Chandelure a way to status Dragalge and cripple physically offensive switch-ins like Rhyperior and Tyrantrum. Protect lets Chandelure scout Choice-locked switch-ins, such as Flygon, as well as force the opposing Pokemon to take more status damage. Taunt can be used to shut down the recovery of this set's few reliable counters, Umbreon and Snorlax, making it nearly impossible for defensive teams to handle. Will-O-Wisp is more effective than Toxic alongside Taunt to weaken Umbreon's attacks and avoid being crippled by Synchronize. Energy Ball is useful specifically for Seismitoad, Gastrodon, and Rhyperior, OHKOing them immediately; however, once they are statused, they require only a little chip to KO with Hex. Finally, Pain Split is a niche option that gives Chandelure greater durability versus defensive teams.

Since Chandelure's Hex is twice as strong against statused foes, teammates that spread status, such as Seismitoad, Togekiss, Toxic Metagross, and Toxic or Thunder Wave Cobalion, make it even more threatening. It is extremely effective at forcing chip damage onto bulky Water-types, which teammates like Cobalion, Sharpedo, and Barbaracle appreciate. However, its defensive typing leaves it with a number of weaknesses. Togekiss and Cobalion can switch into Dark-types that may revenge kill it, and Zarude, Roserade, and Seismitoad can take on the Water-types that sometimes force it out. Chandelure also appreciates U-turn support from some of those Pokemon, notably Crobat and Zarude, to bring it into battle safely against Steel-types. Finally, its low Speed means it can be forced out by faster special attackers, such as Raikou and Starmie. Offensive checks to them such as Choice Scarf Zarude and Choice Scarf Celebi can therefore be useful.

for teammates paragraph of this altered set, add mons that can knock Noivern; no Hex means u cant instantly damage it by much more than roost recovers, removing boots lets u make progress much faster

  • Choice Specs can deal even more massive damage than normal. However, this removes Heavy-Duty Boots from Chandelure and makes it susceptible to entry hazards and being set up on.
  • Choice Scarf works in a similar manner to outspeed threats like Heracross (never switching into a chandy), Obstagoon, and Heavy-Duty Boots Zarude. Unfortunately, this is not encouraged for the same reasons as Choice Specs. mention how it outspeeds and 2HKOs noivern (lures it if rocks arent up)
  • mention very briefly some of sub, cm, and flame charge; i dont rly care which u choose, they all seem fringe viable to me

Checks and Counters

**Dark-types**: Zarude, Obstagoon, and Incineroar offensively pressure Chandelure with their respective STAB moves. The latter does not want to be Toxic poisoned, however.

**Special Walls**: Porygon2, Snorlax, and Umbreon eat up anything Chandelure sends their way while being able to heal any damage it may inflict on them. Porygon2 does not want to be hit with Toxic, though.

**Water-types**: Despite being able to hit them with Energy Ball, Suicune and Milotic can shake it off, restore their HP, and force Chandelure out. Include Volcanion, which is neutral to energy ball + quite bulky

**Faster Special Attackers**: Raikou and Starmie are just a couple of faster Pokemon that force Chandelure out due to their superior speed.
.... why special and not physical? seems super arbitrary. just make this faster revenge killers in general

i'd recommend a section on dragon types here as well; noivern is one of the most common switch ins, and flygon / dragalge / regidrago (lol) can hold it off fairly it well

Flame Charge can also be used to get a Speed advantage over threats like non-Choice Scarf Zarude and Mienshao, but this means that Chandelure must give up either Toxic, Energy Ball, or Protect.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Zarude, Obstagoon, and Incineroar offensively pressure Chandelure with their respective STAB moves. The latter does not want to be poisoned by Toxic, however.

**Special Walls**: Porygon2, Snorlax, and Umbreon eat up and recover from anything Chandelure sends their way while being able to heal any damage it may inflict on them. Porygon2 does not want to be hit with Toxic, though.

**Water-types**: Despite Chandelure being able to hit them with Energy Ball, Suicune and Milotic can shake it even Energy Ball off, restore their HP, and force it Chandelure out.

**Faster Revenge Killers**: Raikou, Barraskewda, and Starmie are just a few faster Pokemon that force Chandelure out due to their superior Speed.

**Dragon-types**: Regidrago, Noivern, Flygon, and Dragalge use their Fire resistance to check Chandelure due to their typing and either deal significant damage to it or set up on it.
