[OVERVIEW]
Bouffalant finds a home in the ZU metagame thanks to its decent movepool, above-average bulk, excellent Attack stat, and desirable abilities in Sap Sipper and Reckless. Its main niche is to be a bulky Normal-type setup sweeper with Swords Dance. Sap Sipper is by far its best ability, letting in come in on the Grass-types of the tier like Shiftry, Abomasnow, and Leafeon to get an Attack boost and become even more dangerous. Alternatively, if Bouffalant is running Reckless, it can punch big holes in the opposing team with STAB Head Charge. With its powerful STAB moves, as well as its coverage moves like Earthquake and Pursuit, Bouffalant can be difficult to switch into or pivot on. While Komala does outclass Bouffalant as a Normal-type wallbreaker thanks to its immunity to status, better Attack stat, and access to Rapid Spin, if a team is lacking bulk, Bouffalant is a better pick over Komala as well as Kecleon. Bouffalant can also utilize a Choice Band very well, but Komala typically does this better as well. The same can be said for an Assault Vest set, which Komala and Kecleon also can use better thanks to their respective abilities in Comatose and Protean as well as their above-average Special Defense stats. Bouffalant's lack of Knock Off worsens its matchup against Bronzor as well; Komala not only learns Knock Off, but also possesses higher Speed and a pivoting move, making it a better Bronzor check. At a paltry base 55 Speed, Bouffalant gets outsped by most of the tier, and despite its decent bulk, it still gets worn down easily by common wallbreakers like Silvally-Fighting, Electivire, and Pinsir.

Moves
========
Swords Dance, in tandem with Substitute and Toxic, is what allows Bouffalant to function as a stallbreaker and break through tanks like Lickilicky and Golem. Alternatively, Earthquake can be run in its place to hit Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types, but Bouffalant loses out on the much-wanted Attack boost and the ability to wallbreak or sweep teams. Toxic is a way to punish switch-ins that would otherwise wall Bouffalant such as Gourgeist-XL, Golem, Crustle, and Pyukumuku. Lastly, Substitute lets Bouffalant capitalize on potential switches made by the opponent and avoid a potential burn from Gourgeist-XL or a Toxic from Lickilicky or Bronzor.

Set Details
========
176 Speed EVs let Bouffalant outspeed base 45 Speed Pokemon like Adamant Golem. 84 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature maximize Bouffalant's Attack while the rest of the EVs goes into HP for added bulk. Leftovers gives Bouffalant that much-needed passive recovery to help maintain its longevity.

Usage Tips
========
As the name suggests, this set's goal is to deal with stall, and because of this, keeping Bouffalant behind its Substitute is key. Getting badly poisoned or burned before using Substitute will ruin any chance Bouffalant has of doing its job. For this reason, switching into Pokemon like Pyukumuku and Gourgeist-XL is a bad idea. Utilizing Toxic is important in wearing the opposing team down; multiple Pokemon in the tier can wall Bouffalant completely or set up on it like Gourgeist and Crustle, and Toxic can potentially put a stop to those plans and make it easier for Bouffalant's teammates to take them on. If Bouffalant is behind a Substitute, the opposing team will want to get rid of it quickly before Bouffalant starts setting up and dealing damage. As a stallbreaker, Bouffalant can break a balance team and play as a tank if Substitute isn't needed. Most of the time, Swords Dance should be used behind a Substitute or when all Ghost-types are gone.

Team Options
========
Bronzor is a huge issue with this variant of Bouffalant, since it walls everything Bouffalant throws at it. However, Bronzor does require high damage rolls on its Psywave to break Bouffalant's Substitute to prevent a Swords Dance boost. Having a Fire- or Dark-type like Simisear or Shiftry helps greatly. As mentioned before, Gourgeist-XL is also a problem; in addition to Shiftry helping here, other Pokemon like Combusken and Swanna make for great partners for this set. A Pokemon that can deal with Steel-types like Bronzor and Mawile gives Bouffalant an easier time; Alolan Golem is a prime example thanks to its Magnet Pull ability. Toxic Spikes gives Bouffalant trouble, so a reliable entry hazard remover is critical. These partners include Silvally-Fighting, Silvally-Water, and Altaria for Defog and Sandslash for Rapid Spin. Since poison is an issue, bringing in a Poison- or Steel-type to absorb any move that can Poison, particularly Toxic, will relieve Bouffalant of a lot of pressure. Good teammates that can do this include Muk, Mareanie, and Bronzor. Teammates that can threaten and dispose of Ghost-types work very with Bouffalant, such as Shiftry and Pawniard. Since entry hazards wear down the opposing team, bring teammates able to set them do just that; Mareanie works well here thanks to its access to Toxic Spikes.

move 4: Pursuit
item: Assault Vest
ability: Sap Sipper

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
Return is a nice STAB move that hits most of the meta for decent damage. Earthquake allows Bouffalant to hit the Rock- and Steel-types that Return won't like Golem and Metang. Facade is a nice move to fall back on if Bouffalant becomes crippled with status. Bouffalant can trap Pokemon like Beheeyem and Kadabra with Pursuit to remove their ability to deal serious damage. It also traps pivots that don't like being worn down and can't OHKO Bouffalant like Electivire and Chatot.

Set Details
========
Assault Vest allows Bouffalant to avoid getting OHKOed by a Choice Specs-boosted Focus Blast from Abomasnow. It also has a good chance of letting Bouffalant eat up a +2 Inferno Overdrive from Simisear. Max EVs in HP and Attack along with an Adamant nature give Bouffalant the most bulk it can and hit as hard as it can.

Usage Tips
========
Since this set aims to utilize Bouffalant's Special Defense, it has to be wary of strong physical wallbreakers, particularly Shiftry, which can also remove Bouffalant's Assault Vest with Knock Off. Bouffalant can still function as a physical tank with this set and hits the physically frail threats that can't hit it back hard such as Kadabra, Mr. Mime, and Simisear. Also, since Bouffalant has no recovery, is slow, and wants to conserve its HP, bringing it in safely via a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is crucial. Bouffalant serves as a specially defensive pivot, and as such, its job involves switching it into special attackers and possibly retaliating. It shouldn't be switching into special attackers that could be running Focus Blast like Combusken, however. It can switch directly into Grass-types like Bellossom to get a Sap Sipper boost, but it should avoid other Grass-types like Shiftry and Leafeon, both of which can carry Knock Off.

Team Options
========
Since Bouffalant is going to be trying to take special attacks, physical attacks will be an issue, especially Fighting-type moves; having a Psychic- or Fairy-type on the team like Beheeyem or Granbull relieves Bouffalant of some of that stress. Since Sap Sipper allows Bouffalant to deal with Grass-types more easily, partners that appreciate them gone such as Golem, Basculin, and Electivire work well with it. A strong special wallbreaker such as Simipour or Servine to go with Bouffalant is critical, since physically bulky Pokemon will give it a hard time. Slow pivots like Mareanie and Rotom-S can bring in Bouffalant without it taking damage. Entry hazard setters like Golem, Crustle, and Mawile make for great partners to give Bouffalant an easier time taking down opposing Pokemon. Conversely, entry hazard removers also help to keep Bouffalant's HP up and avoid poison from Toxic Spikes. Possible spinners include Sandslash, while potential Defoggers include Altaria and Rotom-F. Partners that don't have the best special bulk appreciate Bouffalant coming in to take those special attacks. Ideal partners are Gourgeist-XL, Metang, and Pinsir; Gourgeist-XL in particular works well thanks to ability to deal with physically attackers like Golem and Komala.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Head Charge
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Pursuit
move 4: Toxic / Facade
item: Choice Band
ability: Reckless
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========
Head Charge is a great STAB move here that can OHKO Lickilicky after Stealth Rock damage. Earthquake lets Bouffalant hit the Rock- and Steel-types of the tier, most notably 2HKOing both Golem and Metang and OHKOing Probopass and Pawniard. Toxic is a nice option to poison certain Pokemon that Bouffalant cannot normally hit very well at all like Gourgeist-XL and Dusclops. Facade hits harder than Head Charge if Bouffalant is crippled with status and is a nice move to spam once the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types are gone from the opposing team. Pursuit traps frail Pokemon that are susceptible to Dark-type moves like Beheeyem, Grumpig, and Kadabra and also hits pivots like Volt Switch Electivire and U-turn Silvally-Water, both of which cannot OHKO Bouffalant.

Set Details
========
Pyukumuku gets 2HKOed by Head Charge and offensive Golem has a chance to be OHKOed by Earthquake after Stealth Rock damage.

Usage Tips
========
Choice Band Bouffalant's main role is to simply deal damage. Ghost-types like Gourgeist-XL and Dusclops are a problem when it comes to spamming STAB Head Charge or Facade; this is where Toxic comes into play. Once opposing Ghost-types are poisoned, Bouffalant can switch out to preserve its status by avoiding a burn or Toxic poison. Grass-types like Shiftry, Leafeon, and Jumpluff don't want to give Sap Sipper Bouffalant that extra Attack boost, so switching into these Pokemon could potentially help Bouffalant. However, the former two typically carry Knock Off and may end up getting rid of Bouffalant's Choice Band. Bringing Bouffalant in from a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is always a good idea to maintain its longevity and avoid any unwanted burns from the aforementioned Ghost-types and Scald users like Mareanie and Swanna. Since Bouffalant is a wallbreaker, if the opposing team has a Ghost-type on it, it will likely switch it into Bouffalant every time, so it is important to utilize Toxic in those situations until they're gone. Reckless-boosted Head Charge's heavy recoil damage should always be taken into account; getting worn down is always going to be a problem for Bouffalant, since it's usually getting hit before it can deliver a hit itself.

Team Options
========
While this moveset covers the tier pretty well, it doesn't cover a few threats. Gourgeist-XL, for example, is a huge problem for Bouffalant, and having a specially attacking partner like Abomasnow, Zebstrika, or Combusken helps it out. Bronzor is also a problem, so having a Dark-, Ghost-, or Fire-type around to deal with it certainly helps; options include Shiftry, Dusknoir, and Simisear. Since Bouffalant is going to want to be switched in safely every single time, having a slow U-turn or Volt Switch user like bulky Silvally-Poison or Probopass is a must. Since Bouffalant will be locked into a move, usually Head Charge or Facade, setup sweepers like Crustle and Pawniard can come in for free and take advantage of it. Partners that can deal with these Pokemon include Pyukumuku and Silvally-Fighting. Having a partner to deal with Rock- and Steel-types like Golem, Crustle, Bronzor, and Mawile make Bouffalant's job easier; such partners include Floatzel, Electivire, and Combusken. Entry hazard setters like Crustle and Mareanie also give Bouffalant an easier time by wearing down the opposing team. Hazard control from Pokemon like Mareanie, Sandslash, and Silvally-Poison can help keep Bouffalant around longer. Toxic Spikes in particular will wear down Bouffalant quickly, especially when combined with Head Charge's recoil damage.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============
A RestTalk set can be used with Swords Dance to give Bouffalant longevity and protection against status at the cost of being more passive and easier to wall.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon like Gourgeist-XL, Golem, Crustle, and even Pyukumuku give Bouffalant headaches and can easily switch into it.

**Bronzor**: Bronzor has nothing to fear from Bouffalant. It resists Bouffalant's STAB attacks, is immune to Earthquake and Toxic, and, most importantly, often runs Rest to recover whatever damage Bouffalant may have dealt to it.

**Faster Pokemon**: In general, Bouffalant is not fast, which means it is prone to getting hit hard. Because of this, its hopes of potentially dealing a lot of damage rest on it coming on in something slower like Camerupt or Probopass.

**Residual Damage**: Head Charge recoil and entry hazards wear down Bouffalant quickly, especially considering that Bouffalant has no reliable recovery.

**Fighting-types**: The common Fighting-types of the tier like Silvally-Fighting, Machoke, Combusken, and Monferno pressure Bouffalant offensively and force it out every time.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Bouffalant finds a home in the ZU metagame thanks to its movepool, above-average bulk, excellent Attack stat, and abilities in Sap Sipper and Reckless.
  • In addition, if Bouffalant is running Reckless, it punches big holes in the opposing team with STAB Head Charge and Wild Charge. Doesn't run Wild Charge.
  • Sap Sipper is by far its best ability, letting in come in on the Grass-types of the tier like Shiftry, Abomasnow, and Leafeon to get an Attack boost if hit by such a Grass-move and thusly making Bouffalant even more dangerous.
  • With its powerful STAB move in Return and coverage moves like Earthquake and Pursuit, Bouffalant is a Pokemon that can force the opposing team into mind games.
  • Thanks to its above-average bulk, it can sponge a few non-Fighting-type hits and then retaliate with a STAB move to apply offensive pressure.
  • Support moves available to it like Swords Dance and Cotton Guard allow to be more unpredictable than it already is with its movepool. Cotton Guard is very niche.
  • As a Normal-type wallbreaker, Komala does outclass it thanks to its immunity to status, better Attack stat, and access to Rapid Spin.
  • Bouffalant's Speed is nothing to write home about at base 55. It gets outsped by most of the tier which means it's usually getting hit first.
Overall I think the overview can do a better job at describing what Bouffalant does in the metagame as well as its downsides a bit more. The set order should be Substitute SD, Assault Vest, and Choice Band. Should go into depth slightly more and explain what Bouff's main niche is (tanky Normal-type set up sweeper) and then branch out to AV and CB and discuss how those sets in particular face competition. The info you have now is solid and I think you can improve it by focusing on the above.

As for downsides I'd add that Bouffalant is easy to wear down and emphasis how it dislikes common breakers.

move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Toxic / Megahorn
move 4: Pursuit
item: Choice Band
ability: Reckless
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

QC discussed the CB set move order and we believe that Pursuit should be a standalone 3rd slot and then Toxic / Facade in the 4th slot. Megahorn is no longer relevant now that Tangela is gone and Facade has its use in case Bouff gets crippled by Wisp and cannot fire off CB Head Charge.

[SET COMMENTS]

Moves
========
  • Earthquake lets Bouffalant hit the Rock- and Steel-types of the tier, most notably 2HKOing both Golem and Metang and OHKOing Probopass and Pawniard.
  • Toxic is a nice option to poison certain Pokemon that don't want to be poisoned like Gourgeist-Super and Pyukumuku.
  • Megahorn is a nice coverage option that lets Bouffalant hit Bronzor and Gourgeist-Super for a nice chunk of neutral damage since both resist Bouffalant's STAB moves. Replace with Facade.
  • Pursuit traps the Pokemon that are weak and susceptible to Dark-type moves like Beheeyem and Grumpig. Pursuit is more so useful against pivots such as Volt Switch Electivire and U-turn Silvally-Water who can't OHKO Bouff and try to pivot out.
Set Details
========
  • An Adamant nature and maximum Attack EVs is preferred on this set to deal maximum damage.
  • Reckless is the preferred ability for the Choice Band set since it goes hand-in-hand with STAB Head Charge to give it that extra 20% damage boost.
Usage Tips
========
  • Choice Band Bouffalant is all about damage and should be treated as such. Bringing it in the Ghost-types like Gourgeist, Dusclops, Dusknoir, and even Misdreavus is not a good idea since all four of these Pokemon carry Will-O-Wisp and easily shoot down any attempt that Bouffalant has of doing major damage. Can be condensed to keep the relevant information. It's p clear that Ghosts can hard wall CB Bouff locked into Head Charge and that they discourage it from attacking, so be sure to mention the importance of Toxic here as well as double switching.
  • Grass-types like Shiftry, Leafeon, Abomasnow, and Jumpluff don't want to give Sap Sipper Bouffalant that extra Attack boost, so switching into these Pokemon could potentially help Bouffalant. However, the former two do carry Knock Off and may end up getting rid of Bouffalant's Choice Band. More of a bluff type usage tip so clarify that.
  • Bringing Bouffalant in from a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is always a good idea to maintain it's longevity and avoid any unwanted burns from the likes of the aforementioned Ghost-types and potential burns from Scald users like Mareanie and Swanna.
First point should be that Bouffalant should always use Head Charge unless there is a Ghost-, Rock-, or Steel-type and Bouffalant can nail them with a prediction. Most of the time CB Head Charge is going to be used so focus on that. Also, talk about how Bouffalant should be played as a breaker and when it should attack or predict incoming switches. Can also mention how Head Charge recoil comes into play.

Team Options
========
  • While this moveset covers the tier pretty well, it doesn't cover a few threats. Gourgeist-XL for example is a huge problem for Bouffalant and having a special attacking partner like Abomasnow or Zebstrika help it out.
  • Bronzor is also a problem, so having a Dark-, Ghost-, or Fire-type around to deal with it certainly helps. These partners include special attacking Shiftry, Silvally-Ghost, and Simisear, respectively.
  • Since Bouffalant is going to want to be switched in safely every single time, having a slow U-turn or Volt Switch user like Mareanie or Probopass is a must. Silvally type instead
  • Since being locked into a move will be a normal thing, especially Return Head Charge or Facade, setup sweepers like Crustle and Pawniard can come in for free and start doing just that. Partners to deal with these Pokemon include Pyukumuku and Silvally-Fighting.
  • Having a partner to deal with the Rock- and Steel-types like Golem, Crustle, Bronzor and Mawile make Bouffalant's job easier. These partners include Floatzel, Electivire, or Combusken.
Mention entry hazard setters and entry hazard removers.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Earthquake is Bouffalant's best way to hit the Rock- and Steel-types like Golem, Carbink, and Pawniard.
  • Megahorn's ability to cripple Bronzor for neutral damage is nice and it lets Bouffalant punish the Grass-types for giving it an Attack boost due to Sap Sipper. Talk about Facade instead.
  • Bouffalant can trap Pokemon like Beheeyem and Kadabra with Pursuit to remove their ability to deal serious damage. Similar to CB, Pursuit is more so helpful against pivots. In addition, AV allows Bouff to trap even more special attackers that would otherwise heavily damage it such as Chatot.
Set Details
========
  • Assault Vest gives Bouffalant that Special Defense boost to live longer and thusly, deal damage. Mention a notable example or two.
  • Maximum HP and Attack EVs are there for bulk and damage, respectively.
  • Adamant nature is best for maximum damage output. Fluff
Usage Tips
========
  • Since this set it to utilize Bouffalant's Special Defense, it does have to be wary of strong physical wallbreakers such as Shiftry, which can knock Bouffalant's Assault Vest off.
  • Bouffalant does somewhat function as a physical wallbreaker with this set and does hit the physically weak threats that aren't hitting it back such as Floatzel, Mr.Mime, and Simisear. Should say that AV Bouffalant is able to make trades due to its bulk rather than threats not hitting it back (I get what you mean though).
  • Also, since Bouffalant has no recovery, is slow, and will want to conserve its HP, bringing it in free via slow U-turn or Volt Switch will be crucial.
Usage tips should focus around Assault Vest and how Bouffalant plays as a physical tank. Mention the matchups AV helps with and the type of Pokemon Bouffalant should focus on switching into or checking. Also, you should briefly mention Sap Sipper and what that helps against (i.e can sometimes pivot into Specs Abomasnow and hard walls Bellossom).

Team Options
========
  • Since Bouffalant is going to be eating up special attacks, physical attacks will be an issue. Fighting moves specifically. So, having a Psychic- or Fairy-type on the team like Beheeyem or Granbull relieves Bouffalant of some of that stress.
  • Sap Sipper allows Bouffalant to deal with Grass-types more easily. Partners that appreciate Grass-types gone such as Golem, Floatzel, and Electivire work well with Bouffalant.
  • Finally, a strong special wallbreaker to go with Bouffalant is critical since physically bulky Pokemon will give it a hard time. These wallbreakers include Abomasnow, Simipour, or Servine.
Mention entry hazard setters and removers as well as pivots that pair well with Bouffalant and Pokemon that appreciate Bouff's special bulk / ability to be a tank.

Moves
========
  • Swords Dance is a nice utility move that gives Bouffalant more attack power to hit its opponents very hard. Fluff. Instead, mention that Swords Dance is what allows Bouffalant to act as a stallbreaker.
  • However, Earthquake can be run in its place to hit the Rock- and Steel-types, but it loses out on the much-wanted Attack boost. Loses out on the ability to wallbreak / sweep teams.
  • Toxic is a way to punish switch-ins that would otherwise wall Bouffalant. These potential switch-ins include Gourgeist-Super, Golem, Crustle, and Pyukumuku.
  • Lastly, Substitute lets Bouffalant capitalize on potential switches made by the opponent, avoid status, and can also play mind games with Sucker Punch users. Not really since the relevant Sucker Punch users are faster and would attack it or switch out.
Set Details
========
  • 176 Speed EVs lets Bouffalant outspeed Adamant Golem.
  • 84 Attack EVs and Adamant nature maximizes Bouffalant's Attack while the rest of the EVs goes into HP.
Usage Tips
========
  • As the name suggests, this set is to deal with stall and because of this, keeping Bouffalant behind its Substitute is key. Should Bouffalant get Toxic poisoned or burned before using Substitute, that is going to derail any hopes of it doing its job.
  • Utilizing Toxic is important in wearing the opposing team down. There are Pokemon in the tier that wall Bouffalant completely or set up on it like Gourgeist and Crustle. Toxic can potentially put a stop to those plans and make it easier for the other Pokemon on Bouffalant's team.
Go into more depth on how Sub Toxic Bouff plays. While it is a stallbreaker, Sub SD Bouff can break balance and play as a tank if it does not need to use Sub. Give examples on when to use Swords Dance and scenarios where the increased Attack comes into play (i.e to 1v1 Bronzor).

Team Options
========
  • Bronzor is a huge issue with this variant of Bouffalant since it walls everything Bouffalant throws at it. Having a Fire- or Dark-type like Simisear or Shiftry helps greatly.
  • As mentioned before, Gourgiest-Super is also a problem and should be dealt with. In addition to Shiftry helping here, other Pokemon like Abomasnow, Combusken, and Swanna makes a great partner for Stallbreaker Bouffalant.
  • Toxic Spikes will give Bouffalant fits so a reliable hazard remover is critical. These partners include Altaria, Silvally-Fighting and Water for Defog, and Sandslash for Rapid Spin.
  • Since being poisoned is an issue, bringing in a Poison- or Steel-type to absorb a Toxic or avoid Poison altogether will surely relieve Bouffalant of a lot of pressure. Good teammates that do this include Muk, Mareanie and Bronzor.
Mention Pokemon that threaten Ghosts since they give the set considerable trouble. Also, mention entry hazard setters as they're crucial in providing that chip for stallbreaking and mention fast partners that can revenge kill offensive Pokemon that threaten Bouff.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============
  • A Life Orb set could be used similar to the Choice Band set to give Bouffalant more move freedom. However, the Reckless move recoil coupled with the Life Orb damage is not something to write home about. LO should not be used and I've personally never seen it used.
  • A set incorporating Cotton Guard can do wonders to give physical wallbreakers and physical set up sweepers a hard time to deal with it. Furfrou outclasses this set.
Should add:
- Swords Dance can be used over Toxic on the Substitute set to more easily beat Pokemon such as Golem, Mawile, and Curse Muk.
- Rest and Sleep Talk can be used with Swords Dance to give Bouffalant longevity and protection against status at the cost of being more passive and easier to wall.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon like Gourgiest-Super, Golem, Crustle, and even Pyukumuku just give Bouffalant a headache in the fact that all of them can easily switch into it without an issue.

**Bronzor**: Bronzor has nothing to fear from Bouffalant. It resists Bouffalant's STAB, takes no damage from Earthquake, is immune to Toxic, and even worse, uses Rest to recover whatever damage Bouffalant may have gotten on it. Sub SD Bouff can occasionally 1v1

**Faster Pokemon**: Bouffalant, in general, is not fast. Which means it is prone to getting hit and hit hard. Because of this, its hopes of potentially dealing a lot of damage rest on it coming on in something slower. Give some examples.

Add **Residual Damage** because Bouff is prone to being worn down. Add in **Fighting-types** since Silvally-Fighting, Combusken, Machoke, and Monferno can heavily pressure it.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Bouffalant finds a home in the ZU metagame thanks to its movepool, above-average bulk, excellent Attack stat, and abilities in Sap Sipper and Reckless.
  • In addition, if Bouffalant is running Reckless, it punches big holes in the opposing team with STAB Head Charge. Point should go after Sap Sipper one since CB Bouff is the least effective set and Reckless is the less used than Sap Sipper.
I get what you mean and rather than call it mind games, it would be more accurate to say that Bouffalant can be difficult to switch into or pivot on due to its coverage options in Earthquake and Pursuit.
  • Thanks to its above-average bulk, it can sponge a few non-Fighting-type hits and then retaliate with a STAB move to apply offensive pressure. Kind of redundant since the first point talks about its bulk and the point before this alludes to Bouff's offensive capabilities
  • Support moves available to it like Swords Dance allow to be more unpredictable than it already is with its movepool. Bit of awkward phrasing here because SD is Bouff's best set and thus isn't unpredictable. Would remove this point.
  • Bouffalant's main niche is to be a tanky Normal-type set up sweeper. As previously mentioned, Swords Dance can allow Bouffalant to do this. This should be the second point because it talks about Bouff's main niche in SD.
  • As a Normal-type wallbreaker, Komala does outclass it thanks to its immunity to status, better Attack stat, and access to Rapid Spin.
  • Bouffalant can utilize a Choice Band very well, but Komala again just does it better. The same can be said for an Assault Vest which Komala also can use better along with Kecleon thanks to their abilities in Comatose and Protean, respectively.
  • Bouffalant's Speed is nothing to write home about at base 55. It gets outsped by most of the tier which means it's usually getting hit first.

  • However, Earthquake can be run in its place to hit the Rock- and Steel-types, but it loses out on the much-wanted Attack boost and the ability to wallbreak and/or sweep teams.
  • Toxic is a way to punish switch-ins that would otherwise wall Bouffalant. These potential switch-ins include Gourgeist-Super, Golem, Crustle, and Pyukumuku.
  • Lastly, Substitute lets Bouffalant capitalize on potential switches made by the opponent and avoid status.
Set Details
========
  • 176 Speed EVs lets Bouffalant outspeed Adamant Golem.
  • 84 Attack EVs and Adamant nature maximizes Bouffalant's Attack while the rest of the EVs goes into HP.
Usage Tips
========
  • If Bouffalant is behind a Substitute, the opposing team will want to get rid of it quickly before Bouffalant starts setting up and dealing damage. As a stallbreaker, Bouffalant can break a balanced team and play as a tank if Substitute isn't needed.
  • Most of the time, if not all the time, Swords Dance should be used behind a substitute or if and when all Ghost-types are gone. Making sure Bouffalant is clear of any damage or status is key.
  • With Bouffalant's increased Attack from Swords Dance, it can do serious damage to a very bulky tank like Bronzor.
Team Options
========
  • Teammates that can threaten and dispose of Ghost-types work very with Bouffalant. These include Shiftry, Pawniard, and Dusknoir.
  • Since entry hazards wear down the opposing team, having them as teammates do just that. Mareanie, Probopass, and Crustle work well here.
  • Since Bouffalant isn't the fastest Pokemon, scarfers and other revenge killers help it out. Electivire, Rapidash, Swanna, and Kecleon with its priority moves work here.

Moves
========
  • Earthquake is Bouffalant's best way to hit the Rock- and Steel-types like Golem, Carbink, and Pawniard.
  • Facade is a nice move to fall back on if Bouffalant becomes burned, poisoned, or paralyzed. It hits harder than Return does. Fluff
  • Bouffalant can trap Pokemon like Beheeyem and Kadabra with Pursuit to remove their ability to deal serious damage. It also traps pivots that don't like being worn down and can't take down Bouffalant with a OHKO like Electivire and Chatot.
Set Details
========
  • Assault Vest gives Bouffalant that Special Defense boost to live longer and thusly, deal damage. For example, it allows Bouffalant to avoid getting OHKO'd by a Choice Specs Focus Blast from Abomasnow. It also has a good chance of eating up a +2 Inferno Overdrive from Simisear.
  • Maximum HP and Attack EVs are there for bulk and damage, respectively.
Usage Tips
========
Just a physical tank rather than a wallbreaker
  • Also, since Bouffalant has no recovery, is slow, and will want to conserve its HP, bringing it in free via slow U-turn or Volt Switch will be crucial.
  • Bouffalant will be serving a specially defensive pivot and as such, switching it into special attackers and possibly retaliating will be its job. It shouldn't be switching into special attackers that could be running Focus Blast like Combusken, however.
  • It can go hard into Grass-types like Bellossom to get that much-wanted Sap Sipper boost, but not so much other Grass-types like Shiftry which potentially carries Knock Off.
Team Options
========
  • Slow pivots can bring in Bouffalant so that it avoids damage. Examples include Mareanie and Rotom-Fan.
  • Entry hazard setters make for great partners to give Bouffalant an easier time taking down opposing Pokemon. Partners include Golem, Crustle, and Mawile.
  • Partners that don't have the best special bulk appreciate Bouffalant coming in to take those special attacks. Ideal partners are Gourgeist-XL, Metang, and Pinsir.

Moves
========
  • Facade is a nice move that lets Bouffalant spam once the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types are gone from the opposing team to hit harder than Head Charge if Bouffalant is burned, poisoned, or paralyzed.
  • Pursuit traps the Pokemon that are weak and susceptible to Dark-type moves like Beheeyem and Grumpig and also hits pivots like Volt Switch Electivire and U-turn Silvally-Water, both of which cannot OHKO Bouffalant.
Set Details
========
  • An Adamant nature and maximum Attack EVs is preferred on this set to deal maximum damage.
  • Reckless is the preferred ability for the Choice Band set since it goes hand-in-hand with STAB Head Charge to give it that extra 20% damage boost.
Usage Tips
========
  • Choice Band Bouffalant is all about damage and should be treated as such. Ghost-types like Gourgeist and Dusclops are a problem when it comes to spamming STAB Head Charge or Facade. This is where Toxic comes into play. Once the Ghost-type is poisoned, Bouffalant can double switch and preserve its status.
While this set does run Reckless, the opposing team won't know that, so bluff it wisely. Need to specify that this is a bluff and a risk for Bouff coming in since it doesn't have Sap Sipper.
  • Bringing Bouffalant in from a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is always a good idea to maintain it's longevity and avoid any unwanted burns from the likes of the aforementioned Ghost-types and potential burns from Scald users like Mareanie and Swanna.
  • Since Bouffalant is a wallbreaker, if the opposing team has a Ghost-type on it, it will likely switch it into Bouffalant every time. Utilizing Toxic in those situations until they're gone is important.
  • Head Charge does have recoil damage and Reckless does help it deal more damage, but that's a double-edged sword and should always be taken into account.
Team Options
========
Not in ZU
  • Since Bouffalant is going to want to be switched in safely every single time, having a slow U-turn or Volt Switch user like Silvally-Poison or Probopass is a must.
  • Since being locked into a move will be a normal thing, especially Head Charge or Facade, setup sweepers like Crustle and Pawniard can come in for free and start doing just that.
  • Entry hazard setters like Crustle or Mareanie make Bouffalant's job a lot easier by wearing down the opposing team. Mention the removers too
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============
  • Swords Dance can be used over Toxic on the Substitute set to more easily beat Pokemon such as Golem, Mawile, and Curse Muk.
  • A RestTalk set can be used with Swords Dance to give Bouffalant longevity and protection against status at the cost of being more passive and easier to wall.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Faster Pokemon**: Bouffalant, in general, is not fast. Which means it is prone to getting hit and hit hard. Because of this, its hopes of potentially dealing a lot of damage rest on it coming on in something slower like Camerupt and Probopass.

**Residual Damage**: Head Charge recoil and entry hazards combined with the fact that Bouffalant has no reliable recovery just wear down Bouffalant and this can become a problem.

**Fighting-types**: The common Fighting-types of the tier like Silvally-Fighting, Machoke, Combusken, and Monferno pressure Bouffalant offensively and send it running every time.

  • Bouffalant finds a home in the ZU metagame thanks to its movepool, above-average bulk, excellent Attack stat, and abilities in Sap Sipper and Reckless.
  • Bouffalant's main niche is to be a tanky Normal-type set up sweeper. As previously mentioned, Swords Dance can allow Bouffalant to do this.

  • In addition, if Bouffalant is running Reckless, it punches big holes in the opposing team with STAB Head Charge.
  • With its powerful STAB move in Return and coverage moves like Earthquake and Pursuit, Bouffalant is a Pokemon that can be difficult to switch into or pivot on due to those aforementioned coverage moves.
Would definitely mention Komala's abilitiy to threaten to more easily threaten the likes of Bronzor thanks to Knock Off, Bouffalants shaky MU Bronzor hinders its ability to wallbreaker. The ability to pivot and higher speed is also notable.
  • Bouffalant's Speed is nothing to write home about at base 55. It gets outsped by most of the tier which means it's usually getting hit first.
  • Because of this, it gets worn down easily by common wallbreakers like Silvally-Fighting, Electivire, and Pinsir.

The points arent wrong, but bouff isn't bad enough or straight outclassed by the other 2 options to the point where the overview shouldnt be mostly positive.

Should Bouffalant get Toxic poisoned or burned before using Substitute, that is going to derail any hopes of it doing its job. In addition to this, switching into Pokemon like Pyukumuku and Gourgeist-XL is a bad idea. Utilizing Toxic is important in wearing the opposing team down. There are Pokemon in the tier that wall Bouffalant completely or set up on it like Gourgeist and Crustle. Toxic can potentially put a stop to those plans and make it easier for the other Pokemon on Bouffalant's team. If Bouffalant is behind a Substitute, the opposing team will want to get rid of it quickly before Bouffalant starts setting up and dealing damage. As a stallbreaker, Bouffalant can break a balanced team and play as a tank if Substitute isn't needed. Most of the time, if not all the time, Swords Dance should be used behind a substitute or if and when all Ghost-types are gone. Making sure Bouffalant is clear of any damage or status is key (redundant/repeated information) . With Bouffalant's increased Attack from Swords Dance, it can do serious damage to a very bulky tank like Lickilicky. (Don't need to explain Swords Dance)

Team Options
========
Bronzor is a huge issue with this variant of Bouffalant since it walls everything Bouffalant throws at it (SD Bouff wins 1v1 if 2 subs survive psywave which is an average outcome. Bronzor is still an issue so keep this here, just mention that it needs high rolls to prevent SD). Having a Fire- or Dark-type like Simisear or Shiftry helps greatly. As mentioned before, Gourgiest-Super is also a problem and should be dealt with. In addition to Shiftry helping here, other Pokemon like Abomasnow, Combusken, and Swanna makes a great partner for Stallbreaker Bouffalant. A Pokemon that can deal with Steel-types like Bronzor and Mawile, give Bouffalant an easier time. Alolan Golem and its Magnet Pull ability is a prime example. Toxic Spikes will give Bouffalant fits so a reliable hazard remover is critical. These partners include Altaria, Silvally-Fighting and Water (Mention these in order of viability generally. So silvs first in either order and then Alt) for Defog, and Sandslash for Rapid Spin. Since being poisoned is an issue, bringing in a Poison- or Steel-type to absorb a Toxic or avoid Poison altogether will surely relieve Bouffalant of a lot of pressure. Good teammates that do this include Muk, Mareanie and Bronzor. Teammates that can threaten and dispose of Ghost-types work very with Bouffalant. These include Shiftry and Pawniard. Since entry hazards wear down the opposing team, having them as teammates do just that. Mareanie, Probopass, Golem, and Crustle work well here. (T spikes specifically help bouff the most. Team options is becoming a bit overwhelming with all these options so just a mareanie mention is fine here) Since Bouffalant isn't the fastest Pokemon, scarfers and other revenge killers help it out. Electivire, Rapidash, Swanna, and Shiftry with its priority Fake Out and Sucker Punch. (Bouff doesn't necessarily need speed to cover itself. A good team should have speed control yes but as a specific partner for bouffalant they dont merit mentioning compared to the other team options listed.

Moves
========
Earthquake is Bouffalant's best way to hit the Rock- and Steel-types like Golem, Carbink, and Pawniard. (Dont need EQ explanation. Facade and Pursuit are the only parts of this set that are explanation worthy) Facade is a nice move to fall back on if Bouffalant becomes burned, poisoned, or paralyzed. Bouffalant can trap Pokemon like Beheeyem and Kadabra with Pursuit to remove their ability to deal serious damage. It also traps pivots that don't like being worn down and can't take down Bouffalant with a OHKO like Electivire and Chatot.

Set Details
========
Assault Vest gives Bouffalant that Special Defense boost to live longer and thusly, deal damage. For example, it allows Bouffalant to avoid getting OHKO'd by a Choice Specs Focus Blast from Abomasnow. It also has a good chance of eating up a +2 Inferno Overdrive from Simisear. (Dont need to explain AV as an item. Calcs are relevant)

Usage Tips
========
Since this set it to utilize Bouffalant's Special Defense, it does have to be wary of strong physical wallbreakers such as Shiftry, which can knock Bouffalant's Assault Vest off. Bouffalant does somewhat function as a physical tank with this set and does hit the physically weak threats that aren't hitting it back such as Floatzel (Floatzel is out of place here as a physical Fight Z set is going to a problem unlike the other 2 mons you mention), Mr.Mime, and Simisear. Also, since Bouffalant has no recovery, is slow, and will want to conserve its HP, bringing it in free via slow U-turn or Volt Switch will be crucial. Bouffalant will be serving a specially defensive pivot and as such, switching it into special attackers and possibly retaliating will be its job. It shouldn't be switching into special attackers that could be running Focus Blast like Combusken, however. It can go hard into Grass-types like Bellossom to get that much-wanted Sap Sipper boost, but not so much other Grass-types like Shiftry which potentially carries Knock Off.

Team Options
========
Since Bouffalant is going to be eating up special attacks, physical attacks will be an issue. Fighting moves specifically. So, having a Psychic- or Fairy-type on the team like Beheeyem or Granbull relieves Bouffalant of some of that stress. Sap Sipper allows Bouffalant to deal with Grass-types more easily. Partners that appreciate Grass-types gone such as Golem, Floatzel, and Electivire (Basculin seems a better example here than float has it doesnt usually carry a way to deal with grass types unlike Floatzel.) work well with Bouffalant. Finally, a strong special wallbreaker to go with Bouffalant is critical since physically bulky Pokemon will give it a hard time. These wallbreakers include Abomasnow, Simipour, or Servine. Slow pivots can bring in Bouffalant so that it avoids damage. Examples include Mareanie and Rotom-Fan. Entry hazard setters make for great partners to give Bouffalant an easier time taking down opposing Pokemon. Partners include Golem, Crustle, and Mawile. With entry hazard setters, hazard removers also help to keep Bouffalant's HP up and avoid poison from Toxic Spikes. Possible Rapid Spinners include Sandslash while Defoggers include Altaria and Rotom-Fan. Partners that don't have the best special bulk appreciate Bouffalant coming in to take those special attacks. Ideal partners are Gourgeist-XL, Metang, and Pinsir. Gourgeist-XL in particular works well thanks to ability to deal with physically attackers like Golem and Komala.

Moves
========
Earthquake lets Bouffalant hit the Rock- and Steel-types of the tier, most notably 2HKOing both Golem and Metang and OHKOing Probopass and Pawniard. Toxic is a nice option to poison certain Pokemon that don't want to be poisoned like Gourgeist-Super and Pyukumuku (Should be gourg only here since pyuku gets 2hkoed by head charge. Not so much that Gourg doesnt want to be poisoned more so that it walls Bouff's STAB and coverage). Facade is a nice move that lets Bouffalant spam once the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types are gone from the opposing team to hit harder than Head Charge if Bouffalant is burned, poisoned, or paralyzed. Pursuit traps the Pokemon that are weak and susceptible to Dark-type moves like Beheeyem, Grumpig, and Kadabra and also hits pivots like Volt Switch Electivire and U-turn Silvally-Water, both of which cannot OHKO Bouffalant.

Set Details
========
An Adamant nature and maximum Attack EVs is preferred on this set to deal maximum damage. Reckless is the preferred ability for the Choice Band set since it goes hand-in-hand with STAB Head Charge to give it that extra 20% damage boost. (Dont need anything in set details here. Max Max and Reckless are self explanatory on this set.

Usage Tips
========
Choice Band Bouffalant is all about damage and should be treated as such. Ghost-types like Gourgeist-XL and Dusclops are a problem when it comes to spamming STAB Head Charge or Facade. This is where Toxic comes into play. Once the Ghost-type is poisoned, Bouffalant can double switch and preserve its status. Grass-types like Shiftry, Leafeon, Abomasnow, and Jumpluff don't want to give Sap Sipper Bouffalant that extra Attack boost, so switching into these Pokemon could potentially help Bouffalant. However, the former two do carry Knock Off and may end up getting rid of Bouffalant's Choice Band. While this set does run Reckless and not Sap Sipper, switching into Grass-types should be more of a bluff play than a smart one. Should Bouffalant come in on the wrong move like a Knock Off from Shiftry, it suddenly loses its Choice Band and becomes less relevant. Bringing Bouffalant in from a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is always a good idea to maintain it's longevity and avoid any unwanted burns from the likes of the aforementioned Ghost-types and potential burns from Scald users like Mareanie and Swanna. Since Bouffalant is a wallbreaker, if the opposing team has a Ghost-type on it, it will likely switch it into Bouffalant every time. Utilizing Toxic in those situations until they're gone is important. Head Charge does have recoil damage and Reckless does help it deal more damage, but that's a double-edged sword and should always be taken into account. Getting worn down is always going to be a problem for Bouffalant since it's usually getting hit before it can deliver a hit itself.

Team Options
========
While this moveset covers the tier pretty well, it doesn't cover a few threats. Gourgeist-XL for example is a huge problem for Bouffalant and having a special attacking partner like Abomasnow, Zebstrika, or Combusken help it out. Bronzor is also a problem, so having a Dark-, Ghost-, or Fire-type around to deal with it certainly helps. These partners include special attacking (both shiftries work for zor) Shiftry and Simisear, respectively. Since Bouffalant is going to want to be switched in safely every single time, having a slow U-turn or Volt Switch user like Silvally-Poison (Bulky silvally in general) (Especially because later other silv's get mentioned so we dont want to recommend having both on the same team) or Probopass is a must. Since being locked into a move will be a normal thing, especially Head Charge or Facade, setup sweepers like Crustle and Pawniard can come in for free and start doing just that. Partners to deal with these Pokemon include Pyukumuku and Silvally-Fighting. Having a partner to deal with the Rock- and Steel-types like Golem, Crustle, Bronzor and Mawile make Bouffalant's job easier. These partners include Floatzel, Electivire, or Combusken. Entry hazard setters like Crustle or Mareanie make Bouffalant's job a lot easier by wearing down the opposing team. Hazard control is another thing to keep Bouffalant around longer. Toxic Spikes in particular are not helping out Bouffalant in addition to recoil damage. Hazard removal partners include Mareanie, Armaldo, and Silvally-Poison. (Continuing to use sandslash as opposed to armaldo for a spin example is fine.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============
Swords Dance can be used over Toxic on the Substitute set to more easily beat Pokemon such as Golem, Mawile, and Curse Muk. A RestTalk set can be used with Swords Dance to give Bouffalant longevity and protection against status at the cost of being more passive and easier to wall.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon like Gourgiest-XL, Golem, Crustle, and even Pyukumuku just give Bouffalant a headache in the fact that all of them can easily switch into it without an issue.

**Bronzor**: Bronzor has nothing to fear from Bouffalant. It resists Bouffalant's STAB, takes no damage from Earthquake, is immune to Toxic, and even worse, uses Rest to recover whatever damage Bouffalant may have gotten on it.

Swords Dance, in tandem with Substitute and Toxic, is what allows Bouffalant to function as a stallbreaker. This allows it to and break through tanks like Lickilicky and Golem. However, Earthquake can be run in its place to hit the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types, but it loses out on the much-wanted Attack boost and the ability to wallbreak and/or sweep teams. Toxic is a way to punish switch-ins that would otherwise wall Bouffalant. These potential switch-ins include Gourgeist-Super, such as Gourgeist-XL, Golem, Crustle, and Pyukumuku. Lastly, Substitute lets Bouffalant capitalize on potential switches made by the opponent and avoid a potential burn from Gourgeist-XL or a Toxic poison from Lickilicky or Bronzor.

Bouffalant can also utilize a Choice Band very well, but Komala again just does it typically does this better as well. The same can be said for an Assault Vest set, which Komala and Kecleon also can use better thanks to their respective abilities in Comatose and Protean. (How exactly do their abilities help them pull off Assault Vest sets better?) Komala also has a better matchup against Bronzor thanks to Knock Off, which hinders Bouffalant's ability to wallbreak, as well as the ability to pivot and higher Speed. Bouffalant's lack of Knock Off worsens its matchup against Bronzor as well; Komala not only learns Knock Off, but also possesses higher Speed and a pivoting move, making it a better Bronzong check. (Had some trouble rewriting this, but Komala is facing Bronzor, not Bouffalant. I presume you were trying to say that Bouff's lack of Knock Off hurts it here.) At a paltry base 55 Speed, Bouffalant gets outsped by most of the tier, which means it's usually getting hit first (redundant imo) and despite its decent bulk, it still gets worn down easily by common wallbreakers like Silvally-Fighting, Electivire, and Pinsir.

Moves
========
Swords Dance, in tandem with Substitute and Toxic, is what allows Bouffalant to function as a stallbreaker and break through tanks like Lickilicky and Golem. However Alternatively, Earthquake can be run in its place to hit the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types, but it Bouffalant loses out on the much-wanted Attack boost and the ability to wallbreak or sweep teams.

Set Details
========
176 Speed EVs let Bouffalant outspeed base 45 Speed Pokemon like Adamant Golem. 84 Attack EVs and an Adamant nature maximize Bouffalant's Attack while the rest of the EVs goes into HP for added bulk. (What do Leftovers and Sap Sipper do for this set?)

Usage Tips
========
As the name suggests, this set's goal is to deal with stall, and because of this, keeping Bouffalant behind its Substitute is key. Should Bouffalant get Toxic Getting badly poisoned or burned before using Substitute, that is going to null any hopes of it will ruin any chance Bouffalant has of doing its job. For this reason, switching into Pokemon like Pyukumuku and Gourgeist-XL is a bad idea. Utilizing Toxic is important in wearing the opposing team down; there are multiple Pokemon in the tier that can wall Bouffalant completely or set up on it like Gourgeist and Crustle, and Toxic can potentially put a stop to those plans and make it easier for the other Pokemon on Bouffalant's teammates to take them on. If Bouffalant is behind a Substitute, the opposing team will want to get rid of it quickly before Bouffalant starts setting up and dealing damage. As a stallbreaker, Bouffalant can break a balanced (I assume you mean "balance" as in the playstyle?) team and play as a tank if Substitute isn't needed. Most of the time, Swords Dance should be used behind a Substitute or when all Ghost-types are gone.

Team Options
========
Bronzor is a huge issue with this variant of Bouffalant, since it walls everything Bouffalant throws at it. However, Bronzor does require high damage rolls on its Psywave to break Bouffalant's Substitute to prevent a Swords Dance use boost. Having a Fire- or Dark-type like Simisear or Shiftry helps greatly. As mentioned before, Gourgeist-XL is also a problem; in addition to Shiftry helping here, other Pokemon like Abomasnow, Combusken, and Swanna makes make for great partners for this set Stallbreaker Bouffalant. A Pokemon that can deal with Steel-types like Bronzor and Mawile gives Bouffalant an easier time.; (change to semi) Alolan Golem with its Magnet Pull ability is a prime example thanks to its Magnet Pull ability. Toxic Spikes gives Bouffalant trouble, (AC) so a reliable entry hazard remover is critical. These partners include Silvally-Fighting, Silvally-Water, and Altaria for Defog and Sandslash for Rapid Spin. Since poison is an issue, bringing in a Poison- or Steel-type to absorb any move that can Poison, particularly Toxic, Toxic or avoid Poison altogether will relieve Bouffalant of a lot of pressure. Good teammates that can do this include Muk, Mareanie, and Bronzor. Teammates that can threaten and dispose of Ghost-types work very with Bouffalant, such as. These include Shiftry and Pawniard. Since entry hazards wear down the opposing team, bring teammates able to set them do just that; Mareanie with Toxic Spikes works well here thanks to its access to Toxic Spikes.

name: Assault Vest
move 1: Return
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Facade
move 4: Pursuit
item: Assault Vest
ability: Sap Sipper
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
(What do Return and Earthquake do?)

Set Details
========
Assault Vest allows Bouffalant to avoid getting OHKOed by a Choice Specs-boosted Focus Blast from Abomasnow. It also has a good chance of letting Bouffalant eating up a +2 Inferno Overdrive from Simisear. (What do the EVs, Adamant nature, and Sap Sipper do?)

Usage Tips
========
Since this set aims to utilize Bouffalant's Special Defense, it has to be wary of strong physical wallbreakers, particularly such as Shiftry, which can also remove Bouffalant's Assault Vest with Knock Off. (Unless all physical wallbreakers in ZU typically run Knock Off?) Bouffalant does somewhat can still function as a physical tank with this set and hits the physically frail threats that can't hit it back hard such as Kadabra, Mr.(space)Mime, and Simisear. Also, since Bouffalant has no recovery, is slow, and wants to conserve its HP, bringing it in safely via a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is crucial. Bouffalant serves as a specially defensive pivot, and as such, its job involves switching it into special attackers and possibly retaliating will be its job. (subjective change) It shouldn't be switching into special attackers that could be running Focus Blast like Combusken, however. It can switch directly into Grass-types like Bellossom to get a Sap Sipper boost, but it should avoid other Grass-types like Shiftry and Leafeon, both of which can carry Knock Off.

Team Options
========
Since Bouffalant is going to be trying to take special attacks, physical attacks will be an issue, especially Fighting-type moves specifically; having a Psychic- or Fairy-type on the team like Beheeyem or Granbull relieves Bouffalant of some of that stress. Since Sap Sipper allows Bouffalant to deal with Grass-types more easily, partners that appreciate them gone such as Golem, Basculin, and Electivire work well with it. A strong special wallbreaker such as Abomasnow, Simipour, or Servine to go with Bouffalant is critical, since physically bulky Pokemon will give it a hard time. Options include Abomasnow, Simipour, and Servine. (subjective change) Slow pivots like Mareanie and Rotom-F can bring in Bouffalant without it taking damage. Examples include Mareanie and Rotom-F. (subjective change) Entry hazard setters such as Golem, Crustle, and Mawile make for great partners to give Bouffalant an easier time taking down opposing Pokemon. Options include Golem, Crustle, and Mawile. (subjective change) Conversely, entry hazard removers also help to keep Bouffalant's HP up and avoid poison from Toxic Spikes. Possible spinners include Sandslash, while potential Defoggers include Altaria and Rotom-F. Partners that don't have the best special bulk appreciate Bouffalant coming in to take those special attacks. Ideal partners are Gourgeist-XL, Metang, and Pinsir.; (change to semi; subjective change) Gourgeist-XL in particular works well thanks to ability to deal with physically attackers like Golem and Komala.

Moves
========
Facade hits harder than Head Charge if Bouffalant is statused crippled with Status and is a nice move to spam once the Rock-, Steel-, and Ghost-types are gone from the opposing team. Pursuit traps frail Pokemon that are susceptible to Dark-type moves like Beheeyem, Grumpig, and Kadabra and also hits pivots like Volt Switch Electivire and U-turn Silvally-Water, both of which cannot OHKO Bouffalant. (What does Head Charge do?)

Set Details
========
Pyukumuku gets 2HKOed by Head Charge and offensive Golem has a chance to be OHKOed by Earthquake after Stealth Rock damage. (What do Choice Band, Reckless, an Adamant nature, and the EVs do?)

Usage Tips
========
Choice Band Bouffalant's main role is to simply deal damage is all about damage and should be treated as such. Ghost-types like Gourgeist-XL and Dusclops are a problem when it comes to spamming STAB Head Charge or Facade; this Facade; This is where Toxic comes into play. Once opposing Ghost-types are poisoned, Bouffalant can switch out to preserve its status (What does this mean?). Grass-types like Shiftry, Leafeon, Abomasnow, and Jumpluff don't want to give Sap Sipper Bouffalant that extra Attack boost, so switching into these Pokemon could potentially help Bouffalant. (I'm not sure what you mean here. Are you saying that Bouff should switch into these Pokemon because the opponent might fear that Bouff has Sap Sipper?) However, the former two do typically carry Knock Off and may end up getting rid of Bouffalant's Choice Band. Bringing Bouffalant in from a slow U-turn or Volt Switch is always a good idea to maintain its longevity and avoid any unwanted burns from the aforementioned Ghost-types and Scald users like Mareanie and Swanna. Since Bouffalant is a wallbreaker, if the opposing team has a Ghost-type on it, it will likely switch it into Bouffalant every time., (change to comma) so it is important to utilize Utilizing Toxic in those situations until they're gone is important. Reckless-boosted Head Charge's heavy recoil damage should always be taken into account; getting worn down is always going to be a problem for Bouffalant, since it's usually getting hit before it can deliver a hit itself.

Team Options
========
While this moveset covers the tier pretty well, it doesn't cover a few threats. Gourgeist-XL, for example, is a huge problem for Bouffalant, (AC) and having a specially attacking partner like Abomasnow, Zebstrika, or Combusken helps it out. Bronzor is also a problem, so having a Dark-, Ghost-, or Fire-type around to deal with it certainly helps. Options helps; options include Shiftry, Dusknoir, and Simisear. Since Bouffalant is going to want to be switched in safely every single time, having a slow U-turn or Volt Switch user like a bulky Silvally-Poison or Probopass is a must. Since Bouffalant will be locked into a move, especially usually Head Charge or Facade, setup sweepers like Crustle and Pawniard can come in for free and take advantage of it. Partners to that can (subjective change) deal with these Pokemon include Pyukumuku and Silvally-Fighting. Having a partner to deal with Rock- and Steel-types like Golem, Crustle, Bronzor, and Mawile make Bouffalant's job easier. These easier; such (subjective change) partners include Floatzel, Electivire, and Combusken. Entry hazard setters like Crustle and Mareanie make Bouffalant's job a lot easier also give Bouffalant an easier time by wearing down the opposing team. Hazard control from Pokemon like Mareanie, Sandslash, and Silvally-Poison can help is another thing to keep Bouffalant around longer. Toxic Spikes in particular are not helping out Bouffalant in addition to will wear down Bouffalant quickly, especially when combined with Head Charge's recoil damage. Hazard removal partners include Mareanie, Sandslash, and Silvally-Poison.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Other Options
=============
A RestTalk set can be used with Swords Dance to give Bouffalant longevity and protection against status at the cost of being more passive and easier to wall.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Physically Bulky Pokemon**: Pokemon like Gourgeist-XL, Golem, Crustle, and even Pyukumuku just give Bouffalant a headache headaches and can easily switch into it.

**Bronzor**: Bronzor has nothing to fear from Bouffalant. It resists Bouffalant's STAB attacks, takes no damage from Earthquake, is immune to Earthquake and Toxic, and, most importantly, often runs even worse, uses Rest to recover whatever damage Bouffalant may have gotten on dealt to it.

**Faster Pokemon**: In general, Bouffalant, in general, (subjective change) is not fast, which means it is prone to getting hit hard. Because of this, its hopes of potentially dealing a lot of damage rest on it coming on in something slower like Camerupt or Probopass.

**Residual Damage**: Head Charge recoil and entry hazards wear down Bouffalant quickly, especially considering combined with the fact that Bouffalant has no reliable recovery quickly wear down Bouffalant..

**Fighting-types**: The common Fighting-types of the tier like Silvally-Fighting, Machoke, Combusken, and Monferno pressure Bouffalant offensively and send it running force it out (subjective change)every time.
