Tournament BLT IX: Week 1

Welcome to the first week of BLT IX! For this year's format, teams will be fighting in a round robin where every team will play every other team. At the end of the round robin, the top four teams will move on to the playoffs where the first seed will play the fourth seed and the second seed will play the third seed to determine who will be this year’s finalists. A win will be worth 2 points, a draw 1, and a loss 0. Obviously, play on PS! (preferably main or smogtours server). Series are played in a best-of-one.

Basic Tournament Rules - you absolutely should read this, especially if you're new to forum tournaments

Rules

Sportsmanship: Don't be an ass. Not to your opponents, not to your team, not on PS, not on Smogon, not to me. A bit of friendly banter is ok, but please know where to draw the line. Think before you type, please.

Scheduling and Activity Wins: Contact your opponent as quickly as possible on their Smogon wall, and look out for them on PS. You will have one week from the posting of the week's matches to get it done, and I will not be granting any extensions for any reasons. If your opponent is not responding to your post on their wall, cannot be found on PS, or miss multiple scheduled times, make a detailed activity post in the thread letting me know why you deserve the win. No activity post means no activity call. As long as you have visible attempts at scheduling (such as wall posts), you will be fine.

Disconnections and Timer: A timer loss is a loss. No if's, and's, or but's about it. If your opponent is nice enough to replay that's fine, but they are by no means obligated to.
Ghosting and Identity: Don't take or give battle advice or make moves based solely on the suggestions of others, and don't pretend to be someone else in order to play as them. You will be caught, and you will be disqualified from this season as well as future PS! tournaments (BLT, PSPL, etc.).

Substitutions: Managers are free to substitute out inactive players at any point during the week with any subs they chose during the draft. Be sure to post in the thread when making a substitution.

Unfortunately for 7up he is also a seven pretty fit which is passable but not a two rock bottom like Michaelder which directly inversely relates to mon wins.
SS OU: Kyo vs SpookyZ : Kyo is from Pittsburg. Spooky is Canadian. Pittsburg always beats people form Canada as evident from the Pens 2-1-0 record against the Canadians this year.
SS OU: LoSconosciuto vs ez: Eminem, "Slim Shady" vs Tokita Ohma, "The Asura". Bro even I could beat that punk in a fight.
SS UU: Plas vs Luthier: Goat V goat. Plas is gonna win bc I say so.

SS UU: Shiba vs dunoks: Shiba may be underground king but dunoks has a pfp of umbreon. Everyone knows umbreon is the real underground king.

SS UU: DugZa vs EternalSnowman: It takes about 1 hour for a snowflake to reach the ground. The real eternal snowman is the snowman that has never fallen. Just like how he is never going to win this match.

Ubers Predicts
7u9i2 v MichaelderBeste - This matchup to put it very blunt is a game that will be won by michael by pure fundamentals. 7u had a amazing blt last year in ubers, but i havent seen him play ubers besides that, meanwhile michael has shows great improvement in his general player ability and since Ubers as of now is very fundamentals based (and mu) I think michael is gonna take this 1 quite easily. (Both having good teams ofc.)

Qwily v Aberforth - This matchup is a super tight one, qwily imo is one of the best ubers players in the pool, but this is aberforth. He just got off an SSNL win, qwily hasnt played much ss ubers as far as ik, so he is already kinda behind 1 step. But i still think this game will be a 46-54 game (qwily 46 aber 54). Both great players and def an highlight.

Pannuracotta v FC - This game is a weird one, FC is great, but pannu has shown alottt of skill recently with his amazing record in ompl taking down quite alot of good names including FC if i remember correctly. But this is FC's homefield advantage, builder wise he is down -2 already, playing ability -1, tier knowledge -3. But i can still see pannu winning this, just of how well he has been doing recently.

Leru v Royalreloaded - This is another potential curbstomp like the first 1, Leru is an amazing player, gets great teams from either their team or upl, good playing ability etc. Royalreloaded is a player i am not too familiar with besides their solid record last year. If Leru goes optimal and uses smth good i def see him winning this with ez.

Kyo vs SpookyZ

Should be a pretty fun matchup. While Kyo is definitely a solid player, I give the edge to doubles/mono main SpookyZ in OU. Could definitely go either way though.

LoSconoscutio vs ez

Losco is a solid player with good fundamentals, but it is pretty hard to bold against ez here, especially in a more neutral-ground tier like OU.

Star vs Failures

Failures definitely has his work cut out for him here. I don't really see any way Star drops this one under normal circumstances

Stareal vs TJ

Interesting matchup, but I would probably place TJ a tier above Stareal skillwise, especially given how much success he has had lately.

airfare vs Roginald

I've seen airfare enjoy a decent amount of success playing OU in some sidetours lately, he usually builds and pilots relatively solidly. Roginald on the other hand I have not seen much on in this tier. Slight edge to airfare.

blittius vs myjava

WCOP starter + spotless dpl record blitz > myjava (I really do not know who you are sorry). I am also not very confident in the Laprases support for this tier. blitty boy gonna win.

MDB went from being an old Gen randbats main, who I used to fight on the Gen 5 Rands high ladder often to one of the better OU players on the site, albeit this is Ubers. I still think he’s the better player here even without experience in this tier although 7u is no slouch. I’d say it’s 60-40 MDB

SS OU: Kyo vs SpookyZ
Not sure how much Kyo plays OU these days but he’s always been very competent in everything he plays on here- Spooky on there other hand plays OU quite a bit and I know I saw him posting he recently topped the ladder. I’m gonna pick Kyo here in a toss up 55-45

SS OU: LoSconosciuto vs ez
Ez is a clown but a really really good player and won circuit, and LoScono mains rands and is OK at best. Ez 80-20

SS UU: Plas vs Luthier
Plas mains Gen 4 LC and Luth is about to win UU open. Luth 80-20

SS RU: zioziotrip vs Spl4sh
Zio won, I would have picked Splash. Zio looked really solid

Not much to say here sadly the guy on the left is quite good at this tier 80-20. Kythr did get owned by BigBoy last year so tob could pull off the upset. Here

SS Monotype: Kev vs luisin
I’m gonna pick Luisin here. The only time I’ve seen Kev play was last MPL and he didn’t do great…..that might not be the best sample size, but Lusin brings some cool stuff and usaully pilots it pretty well. 60-40

SS DOU: SMB vs mammalu
Sorry Mamalu don’t think you’ll come back from a 5-1 lead here. 80-20

Heat Mu, can’t pick against Arce in W1 though 55-45.

MalMoonsault only wins Vs tour goons whereas Xiri beat the greatest player of all time in circuit semis in route to winning circuit and his dewgong custom avatar. 80-20

Pattek is someone who I’m extremely high on from playing a bunch and I think tlenit will probably play this game drunk. 60-40

Little unsure why surfy isn’t in LC, and why friso isn’t in OU, but he’s much more proven than xshelly who I have never seen play.

Based on Shadows signup post he doesn’t seem too invested and Actualiarly lives sleeps and breathes this tier, gonna say it’s a 75-25 here

Maroon should have no problem with POAT and this is me being reasonable. 65-35

8-2 Xiris

SS Ubers: Leru vs RoyalReloaded
Leru is quite a good player, although RR is the GXE slayer, so with his plot armour he could pull an upset against GXES team here but I don’t think it’s likely

SS OU: Heni-san vs TDNT
Heard HS is actually quite good, however I haven’t seen it yet so I’m gonna pick TDNT who is also quite good. 60-40

SS OU: clean vs ZoroDark
Don’t know Zoroark heard he’s good though, but I believe Nick will be motivated to win here after his terrible Italian premier league performance. 60-40

SS UU: DugZa vs EternalSnowman
Interesting MU, should be a close one- both are very competent players but I think ESM is out for blood this year after some disappointing losses the prior year, 60-40

SS RU: crucify vs gorex
I think crucify mains like Gen 4 OU or something, gorex has a cool custom though but I’m pretty sure crucify is better bc gorex went like 0-7 last time they played blt. 60-40

SS NU: GXE vs GW
GWs usaul team structures match up well vs what GXE usaully builds, although GXE is the significantly better in game player. If GW can roll a favorable matchup like that here, that’s what he needs to win, but if not GXE should take it easily. I’ll say GXE wins 60-40

SS PU: Drud vs Ninja
Drud is good, and Ninja is good. Think Ninja will be more motivated so I’ll give him a slight favorite 55-45 but could go either way. Hope to catch this one live but I probably won’t

SS LC: Acehunter1 vs tazz
Cool MU both good players but I saw Tazz lose to Lkap, and Ace uses scarf Baby Golurk so I’m gonna favor Ace here. Ace 55- Tazz 45

SS DOU: Z Strats vs Crunchman
ZStrats has been killing it in NU recently winning back to back leagues, so we’ll see how his return to his main tier goes, although I think he’ll be pretty motivated to win playing for GXE/blce and crunchman sucks so I’ll say ZS wins 60-40

SS Mono: Kaguya Lys vs Attribute
Kaguya is relatively easy to prepare for from what I remember and Attribute is the best player in this pool. 70-30

SS OU: Heni-san vs TDNT - i assume heni-san is another hidden German gem and they got loads of support.
SS OU: clean vs ZoroDark - Thursday is a good mixtape at least.
SS UU: DugZa vs EternalSnowman - ES is like one of the 4 people I associate tours room with alongside like Robb, temp, and the wall. UU looks pretty tough this year so if he can start off with a win and he might be able to continue momentum, but overall dugza is better.
SS RU: crucify vs gorex -classic finalist vs Kpop connoisseur. I've actually never seen my lil bro crucify play any lower tiers so I look forward in seeing how lil bro does!
SS NU: GXE vs GW - GW is better in this tier even if GXE is quirky.
SS PU: Drud vs Ninja - never heard of ninja and I know Drud is good.

SS Mono: Kaguya Lys vs Attribute - Attribute was the best player in the Mono pool going into BLT. Unfortunately he got drafted to Roxies team in mpl so his skill might slowly fade away.

SS Ubers: pannuracotta vs Fc - Fc went from voice to RO in like a year and is probably one of the biggest Ubers try hards+ he's good.
SS OU: Star vs Failures - wash
SS OU: Stareal vs Tj - I was getting 5 on 1d defending stareal from slander about his skill and then he proceeded to lose to final gambit cheese
SS UU: Shiba vs dunoks - I thought Shiba didn't want to play UU and even if his motivation is low in this tier is low, he's a still top dog.
SS RU: jonflinch vs hjkhj - what does hjkhj mean
SS NU: cy vs TeamCharm - I come back after a year and see charm has lived up the hype. Above average in mostly all the tiers I've seen them play I expect them to have a good blt and I think cy will be caught off the guard against them.
SS PU: avarice vs Blimax - avarice can use 50% of their brain and win convincingly.
SS LC: Axelsior vs wesh papillion - I can appreciate a fan of BVB and Marco Reus.
SS DOU: Jonas vs Fangame10 - all I know about Jonas is that he is a vgcer?
SS Mono: Maki vs Plunder - I had to carry maki all of IPL so I really don't know how's he going to do without my much needed help. he will prolly load up some screens ho because he's too busy playing league or gettin smashed in yugioh

El Predicts:

SS NU: GXE vs GW - I'd give a very slight edge in game to GXE (although he almost choked an unlosable game twice last week in NUPL), but both players are good enough to be able to convert a good matchup into a winning position and ultimately the game. GW is more creative in the builder so I'll give him the edge here but this is extremely close.
SS NU: Banbadoro vs Xiri - Xiri is the reigning NU circuit champion for a reason. They are creative in the builder and excellent in battle, I don't see this going Mal's way.
SS PU: Drud vs Ninja - As a friend of both, I can confidently say that the real winner is TheKingKarp when he makes a video reviewing this game.
