Project BDSP OverUsed - Victim Of The Week - Week 6 (Scizor)

:bw/scizor::bw/latios:Victim of the week:bw/latios::bw/scizor:

Welcome to the BDSP iteration of Victim Of The Week!
This project aims for an increase in activity and most importantly to provide knowledge of how to properly deal with the Pokémon in the meta.

How it'll go
Each week, a Pokémon will be selected as the victim, users will nominate Pokémon that either check or counter said victim!
The submission phase will last 5 days, while the voting phase will be two days to vote to round out the week.

Please do mind these rules while posting
1. Just so everyone is on the same page, you're expected to follow the definitions for checks and counters in The Smog issue #32
2. Please avoid toxicity for any reason at all. If you disagree with a submission, it's ideal to give advice than to flame someone.
3. Different sets of the same Pokémon can be submitted.
4. A Pokémon can only be reserved for 12 hours, after this time passes anyone is free to submit it before you.
5. Explain your submitted Pokémon's set to give everyone an idea of what it does and what makes it worthy of a submission.
6. It's advised to follow our Viability rankings before posting, otherwise make sure the Pokémon has a proper niche.
7. You cannot vote for yourself.

Let's start off this project big, A pokémon suspected in the past that managed to stay notorious for beating Offense, with a great speed tier and powerful dual stabs... It's none other than the mighty Latios!

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 228 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Cosmic Power
- Wish
- Protect

This Jirachi set allows it to switch into Calm mind Latios and setup against it and force it out or beat it on the 1v1. Something to note is that if Latios doesn't switch out it will be permawalled and when Latios switches out, the opponent is going to have to deal with an unkillable Jirachi that is probably on attack boosts.

Umbreon @ Leftovers

EVs: 252 HP / 248 SpD / 8 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Yawn
- Foul Play
- Wish
- Protect

Speciall defensive Umbreon is a great counter for calm mind latios. It cannot be hit with Latios' reliable stab in psychic, in virtue of Umbreon's dark typing. This means that Latios will have to either swap out, or use draco meteor, which will progressively get weaker and weaker with uses. This is pushed even further with Umbreons amaizing special defense, letting it swap into +1 latios and wish it off. But stalling Latios isnt all of course. Since it's a dark type, it comes with the added benefit of STAB foul play, which lets it guaranteed 2HKO uninvested latios, even against leftovers variants.

Blissey @ Leftovers

Ah, the fat pink blob strikes again. Blissey is able to come in on both of Latios attacks and come out Scott-free. Able to threaten the Latios by crippling it with Thunder Wave, allowing one of Blisseys teammates to come to take it on mono v mono. Thanks to Blisseys access to recovery via Soft Boil. I think I would nominate Blissey as a counter as being able to come in on such a threatening special attacker and come out free is incredible.

252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 196-232 (27.4 - 32.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 136-162 (19 - 22.6%) -- possible 5HKO

Gardevoir is a clear offensive answer to fit Latios. It can switch in just fine, as it's immune to DM and resists Psychic well (4hko) while having the first-hit advantage with Moonblast (56.3% ohko) thanks to Scarf support. Keeping in mind that this game is 1v1, Latios only has Psychic as his best move. I don't think it's necessary to add Moonblast's possible drop.

Stallbreaker Tran is something we all know and love, and its just great to pick up certain components of balance cores that are starting to take flight in this post-Gengar ban, and as usual its a good safety net against Scizor and punishes overuse of the likes of Outrage users, Weavile (that can't 2HKO this, ever) and co, while aside from Gliscor and the occasional Poliwrath nobody beats you on stall, meaning that, unlike in other metagames, Speed isn't really a concern with this set (but the EVs are customizable, anyway... it's a Heatran); bonus points, it pairs very efficiently with our newest addition, Shaymin! (omg so cute...)

So, how does this translate into beating Latios? I'm glad you asked!
This is what happens when you switch into a Latios that is clicking Calm Mind:
+1 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psychic vs. 248 HP / 208 SpD Heatran: 104-123 (27 - 31.9%) -- 35.9% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor vs. 248 HP / 208 SpD Heatran: 150-177 (38.9 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Even in the worst case scenario, 12+31+46 = 90, which means you don't die even with Rocks up since Leftovers recovery just kicks in, and you can Payback twice (0- Atk Heatran Payback (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 144-170 (47.8 - 56.4%) -- 84% chance to 2HKO) and call it a day.

Fourth move is kind of a tossup depending on your need: Protect gets you more recovery, throwing a Will-O-Wisp on certain switchins ruins them (bye Feraligatr and Garchomp), Flash Cannon is just to not get Magma Storm ppstalled by things. EVs are also customizable, as you can just run Calm Tran and risk getting 2HKOed by Weavile but have better matchup against ALL Latios sets, or just going speedy, worsening your matchup against Tios but having better offensive presence.

A very reliable way for strong hazard control teams (especially those with multiple defoggers/spinners) to take on Latios, simple yet effective by being immune to every reasonable move it brings.

As everyone knows, Blissey is our favorite THICC 'mon in BDSP OU for eating up special hits, so I think that it would be an amazing counter to Latios. Seeing the set, you may twist your head at the offensive moves I've given Blissey, but they will all make sense in a second. Your first offensive move, Ice Beam, is to counter Latios, as you'll be soaking up all of its hits: 252 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Latios: 126-150 (41.8 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO. But if it starts to Calm Mind, you always have Seismic Toss there for some fixed damage. Ice Beam can also check Gliscor which might use you for set-up fodder with Swords Dance or set up some Stealth Rocks-either way it gets OHKO'd if it's offensive, but if it's specially defensive it's at least two shot-and you'll be eating up its Earthquakes: 0 Atk Gliscor Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 187-222 (28.7 - 34.1%) -- 1.8% chance to 3HKO, 252 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gliscor: 236-280 (66.6 - 79%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Poison Heal. Ice Beam also allows you to snipe 'mons like Garchomp on the switch-in to surprise your opponent. Your other offensive move, Flamethrower, allows you to snipe Scizor on the switch-in or to take it out if it uses you as set-up fodder as well: 252 SpA Blissey Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Scizor: 328-388 (116.7 - 138%) -- guaranteed OHKO. If it's specially defensive Scizor it gets 2HKO'd: 252 SpA Blissey Flamethrower vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Scizor: 228-272 (66.4 - 79.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO. And If it's SpDef Scizor it won't have the power to take you out with, at best, 8 investment in Atk. Flamethrower also allows you to check the other Steel types in the tier: Skarmory, which is two-shot, Magnezone, which you'll be eating up hits from, and Lucario to snipe, or tank if it's special, and Jirachi which is usually bulky. Other 'mons this combination of moves hit is: Tangrowth, Breloom, Donphan, Weavile, Dragonite, and Salamence. And we have Soft-Boiled for longevity. Having the ability to be able to counter/snipe many 'mons in the tier, whether they be annoying or common makes me believe that offensive Blissey is a niche pick for a team, but, with the variety of 'mons it can hit, it'll always accomplish something for it's team, whether it be taking out an offensive 'mon, so your team can eat up hits better, or knocking out a defensive one, so your sweepers can go crazy, either way-it can pave the way to your success.

At the point you're going 252 SpA, you should probably just go all-in and run Thunder over TWave/SToss slot and Serene Grace over Nat Cure.

I agree with your improvements overall for BDSP OU, but Seismic Toss is here specifically if Latios feels like going for Calm Minds. Other than this specific role, yes, your improvements would make the set better.

Since CM Latios runs Recover, which outheals Seismic Toss, it will have opportunities for a free CM, which means your wincon vs it is actually freezing it with Ice Beam or critting it with Ice Beam.

Latios will CM first and comfortably live Ice Beam or Seismic Toss, allowing it to Recover + CM to +6:
Blissey Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Latios: 100-100 (33.2 - 33.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Latios: 84-100 (27.9 - 33.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

And yes, Latios does kill a Blissey with your EVS:
+6 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 781-921 (119.9 - 141.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+5 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 685-807 (105.2 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+6 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 543-639 (83.4 - 98.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

In order to prevent this from happening, you will want to run Calm Mind Blissey, allowing Blissey to escape being KOed. Of course, it is still vulnerable to being crit, which ostensibly would be about a 50% chance if all 16 Psychics and 8 Draco Meteors are used. However, Calm Mind will also increase Blissey's damage output from Ice Beam to a level where you can pressure Latios quite a bit and turn the RNG into your favor:
+6 252 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. +6 0 HP / 4 SpD Latios: 126-150 (41.8 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

While I believe my initial set was fine as a somewhat offensive somewhat defensive 'mon in general in BDSP OU, and fine for Latios, it has been brought to my attention by Math Bandit and Crunchman that my set is requiring improvements. After reading their responses, I've created a new set made (mostly) for countering Latios 1v1, but a set that can have some use, even though it may be a niche one, in BDSP OU. -

(*can be substituted for Thunder Wave/Seismic Toss if you want some support moves or Thunderbolt/Thunder-thank you Math Bandit-if you want to be more offensive and/or give paras while also doing some damage.)

Since my first post was long, I'll keep it short and sweet. -
Soft-Boiled is for longevity/recovery.
Calm Mind is so that Latios can't OHKO you after 5/6 Calm Minds-brought to my attention by Crunchman-thank you btw.
Ice Beam is to hit it super-effectively and for 20% chance to freeze with Serene Grace. Can also hit Gliscor, Garchomp, etc.
Flamethrower is to snipe Scizor and other opposing Steel/Grass 'mons-and maybe for burn?
Ice Beam + Falmethrower can hit: Tangrowth, Magnezone, Skarmory, Breloom, Donphan, Lucario, Weavile, Dragonite, Jirachi, Salamence, Togekiss
Thunder(bolt) can hit : Azumarill, Crawdaunt, Feraligatr, Staraptor, Starmie

Scizor @ Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Scizor is one of the best and most splashable answers to Latios in the metagame, and although full spdef isnt the most optimal for other MUs is the best to handle any Latios set. Specially this one which is the scariest. It can come in on both STABs and Roost the damage. Force it out with U-turn, and Swords Dance allows it to set up on it and win every 1v1 scenario. (Watch out for Magne in the back tho)

252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Scizor: 105-125 (30.5 - 36.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Scizor: 159-187 (46.2 - 54.3%) -- 6.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (Impish one makes this a little more shaky)
+1 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor over 2 turns vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Scizor: 264-312 (76.7 - 90.6%) -- not a KO (You shouldnt be getting into this situation tho u have roost)
0 Atk Scizor U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 228-270 (75.7 - 89.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Scizor U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 228-270 (75.7 - 89.7%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
0 Atk Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 99-117 (32.8 - 38.8%) -- 99.3% chance to 3HKO
+2 0 Atk Scizor U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 456-536 (151.4 - 178%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 0 Atk Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 195-231 (64.7 - 76.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Weavile is a check to Latios. It can come in on Psychic or if Lati tries to CM or Roost. Throat Chop and and Icicle Crash are OHKOs and Ice Shard does 75%+.
252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Throat Chop vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 446-528 (148.1 - 175.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Okay so this is actually a set i took from a team i use, so it isn't completely thought to counter Latios but still does it really great.
I prefer Scizor over the other alternatives since he has an access to a powerful stabbed U-turn which will either get that kill or gain momentum and some chip damage.
Latios can't also really threaten Scizor with his STAB moves but not doing any 2HKO :
252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psychic vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Scizor: 106-126 (34 - 40.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Draco Meteor over 3 turns vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Scizor: 280-331 (90 - 106.4%) -- 43.8% chance to 3HKO

I guess this is the best place to talk about it. It has been a few weeks that I'm advocating SpD Gardevoir is a counter to Latios. If Gardevoir, as it has already been mentioned upper, is naturally geared to fight Latios thanks to its double type, this specific set sits on CM Latios sponging every possible move while creating momentum when opposing Latios tries to flee the 2HKO Moonblast.

Gardevoir @ Leftovers

- Filler
The bulk investment is here to use Gardevoir 115 BS in SpD maximizing its ability to come multiple times or sponging special hits fot its mates while clicking Teleport. I mention only two moves because they are the only relevant against CM Latios (and Latios in general). What naturally comes to mind is Wish+Protect as a recovery option in combination of Teleport to offer more longevity. Though I would argue that Gardevoir isn't exactly the best Wish passer as it has poor HP base stats (only 68) but it has plenty of ways to criple opposing pokemon that would want to switch in place of Latios like Scizor or Magnezone thanks to Will-O-Wisp, Knock Off or Thunder Wave. Also, Gardevoir has access to Healing Wish even if I do believe it belongs more in an offensive set and last but not least Calm Mind, without mentioning Dual Screens, Taunt, Destiny Bond, etc...

Latios Draco Meteor vs. Gardevoir: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

8 SpA Gardevoir Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Latios: 230-272 (76.4 - 90.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
8 SpA Gardevoir Moonblast vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Latios: 152-182 (50.4 - 60.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
8 SpA Gardevoir Moonblast vs. +2 0 HP / 4 SpD Latios: 116-138 (38.5 - 45.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psychic vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Gardevoir: 58-69 (17.1 - 20.3%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psychic vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Gardevoir: 87-102 (25.6 - 30%) -- 0.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Soul Dew Latios Psychic vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Gardevoir: 115-136 (33.9 - 40.1%) -- 37.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

In short, SpD Gardevoir is one of the best (if not the best ?) defensive pivot against Latios with Scizor and Jirachi.

Lalaya

Banned deucer.
My votes go to Specially Defensive :scizor: and to Choice Band :weavile:; while they arent original by any means, they definitely get the job done (SpDef Scizor not getting killed by anything Latios throws while being threatening, Weavile just straight up being the best rkiller you can ask for)

Demon Rachi: easily my third favourite out of the ones I can vote, I didn't just because it's kind of honestly hard to setup and as soon as the Mashes are over this Rachi can't make any kind of progress at all; it definitely can beat Latios, so no complain here, but it's also terribly easy to play around just to exhaust the Mashes)
Umbreon: Can beat Latios, but I have no reason to use this in OU
Standard Blissey: this CAN'T beat Latios in a 1v1, since they can Roost CMind up with you being unable to do anything relevant except para fishing, but at least it weakens Latios for something else
Choice Scarf Gardevoir: actually not bad, although kind of a niche pick I can see Voir's values over another scarfer such as Togekiss, so definitely to keep in mind, but still a niche pick
Shedinja: the usual, you can't basically use it unless you clear hazards, but if you do it's literally the best on the field
CM Blissey: aside from the EV spreads horribly wrong you can eat Latios no problem with this, but CM died a bit since the Gengar and Mana bans, so uhhh if I had to vote one I'd vote for the Standard
Band Scizor: one of the picks I personally like the most, especially growing up in a Band Scizor meta when I was a wee lad, but still niche here and it can't repel multiple Meteors, which eventually will live to its demise unless you find the time to waste your momentum on a Band Roost.
Specially Defensive Gardevoir: I still don't like this set because aside from "omg teleport" this set has no identity and I still fail to see the importance of this specific set rn.
