Articuno @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 200 SpD / 56 Spe
Calm Nature
- Defog
- Freeze-Dry
- Roost
- Toxic / U-turn

Articuno has once again risen up as one of ZU's premier entry hazard removers after Alolan Sandslash and Aurorus, hazard setters it disliked departed the tier. It has become a staple on many balance and even bulky offense teams, with its incredible special bulk and reliably recovery keeping threats like Jynx and Choice Specs Basculin in check. Freeze-Dry hits Pokemon that can shrug off Toxic, such as Altaria, Wishiwashi, and Qwilfish, deterring the latter from staying in and using Taunt to stop Articuno's Defog. Status hinders Articuno's defensive capabilities; pairing it with Heal Bell users such as Miltank and Clefairy allows it to stall out Toxic thanks to Pressure. Articuno enjoys physically defensive teammates like Qwilfish, Alcremie, and Rhydon, with the former two also being solid Knock Off switch-ins. Frail offensive Pokemon such as Jynx and Cinccino benefit greatly from Articuno either pivoting them in safely or wearing down bulky walls with Toxic, which allows them to clean. U-turn Articuno can also pair up with other pivots like Rotom, Thwackey, and Silvally formes to form the core of a VoltTurn team.

Since the departure of both Alolan Sandslash and Aurorus, Articuno has once again risen up as one of ZU’s premier hazard removal options. It has become a staple on many balance and even bulky offense teams due to its incredible special bulk and reliably recovery keeping threats like Jynx and Choice Specs Poliwrath imo specs poli is quite bad and Thievul or Basculin would be more relevant in check. Freeze-Dry hits Pokemon that can shrug off Toxic such as Altaria and Wishiwashi and deters Qwilfish from staying in and using Taunt to stop Articuno's Defog attempts. Brave Bird is sometimes used in order to better check Frosmoth but is usually not preferred as this leaves it more vulnerable to Stealth Rock users like Rhydon and Stunfisk. Tbh i don't believe this sentence is very revelant, Flying STAB Articuno is really mediocre and Frosmoth is quite rare. You could add a line on Heal Bell support being huge for Cuno since it lets it take on most walls and with pressure, it actually wins long term the pp war. Articuno works well with Pokemon that can deal with physical attackers like Qwilfish, Alcremie, and Rhydon, with the former two also being solid Knock Off switch-ins. Frail offensive Pokemon such as Jynx and Cinccino benefit greatly from Articuno's ability to either pivot them in safely or wear down bulky walls with Toxic to allow the aforementioned threats to clean. Articuno can also pair up with other pivots like Rotom, Thwackey, and Silvally formes to form the core of a VoltTurn team.
Good job as always!
