Its typing lets it check common entry hazard removers such as Articuno and Flamethrower-less Altaria. It can also deter switch-ins like Rapidash, Poliwrath, and Ninetales with Toxic and Knock Off, with the latter also helping check Rotom and Frosmoth. Even without Toxic, Protect is invaluable for the passive Leftovers recovery and scouting Choice-locked attackers like Sawk, Jynx, and Manectric. 56 Speed EVs guarantee Alolan Sandslash outspeeds Adamant Rhydon.
