Welcome, all, to the first battle of a new trainer: Indigon! Their love for dark-type Pokémon shines through in their starters, although that might cause problems given TMan87’s Croagunk and Hatenna. Good luck to both!

"Ah, a new soul, I see. Welcome in this strange world of strange rules! I hope you'll like our ways."
:roserade: "Breaking out the full sprite? You've got a knack for drama, you know that?"
:shellder: "W-Whatever, I'm just going to roll into the field since you likely won't even b-bother sending me out!"
"You guys are totally ruining my jam. And now I'm small again. And I was going to send you out, if you'd just waited."

Sending out Toko Fukawa the Shellder!

Iron Defense | Hydro Pump | Hydro Pump

IF
Taunt A1 THEN Razor Shell instead

"I am going to assume you know nothing of the battle system. This above me is my main orderset, which consists, for Singles, of three actions, resolved in three different rounds, comparable to the turns used in-game.
Now, the statement below that orderset is called a substitution. It's meant to prepare for the ways you would try to abuse my orders! For example, if you used Taunt A1, since you're faster, it would mean I can't use Iron Defense, and I really want to use Iron Defense. If you do try to Taunt, though, you'll get a Razor Shell to the face for your trouble!
So, I'm preemptively punishing you for attempting to punish me! It's pretty strong, but you usually get 3 substitutions maximum, so once the movepools are padded up a bit, you might want to really sit down and think about them."
"Now it's your turn to order! Use the same syntax, three moves per round. Try to think of ways you can gain the upper hand here. I intentionally left something to abuse in my orders, though you might or might not want to go for it. What is it, I wonder...?"
:reuniclus: "And don't forget to have fun! That's the most important part! Much better than all these stuffy rules anyway~"

dark_trainer.jpegThanks for the rundown. I'm not very experienced with this battle style yet, but that doesn't mean I won't be taking advantage of your intentional mistakes ;) Yuki, why don't you set the tone?

TMan87's Shellder hits both Hydro Pumps and a lucky crit, but the two Pokemon are just about as even as possible in terms of HP and EN (although make sure you notice the repeated move energy cost; it adds up quickly). However, Indigon's Sneasel snatched itself a nice Defense boost, which could come in handy.

I don’t have time to ref this round yet, but I just realized I didn’t do the STAB EN reductions. Indigon, your Sneasel gets 3 more EN, and TMan, your Shellder gets 2 more.

TMan87's Shellder continues its storm of Hydro Pumps without missing a beat, and throws a Whirlpool in to whittle down Sneasel's health. However, Indigon's Sneasel is doing just fine in the damage department (along with some help beating up the Shellder from its teammates), and the battle is still very even. Sneasel's Defense boost decayed to +1, but it doesn't look like that will make a difference.

TMan87's Shellder does it again, pulling out a crit at the perfect time. It's still not enough to prevent Sneasel from almost KOing it, but it means that the Whirlpool damage takes Sneasel out before it can use Ice Shard. Luckily for Indigon, their next Pokemon will only have to do 6 damage to take out the Shellder, so the battle is still essentially even.

"Only one thing left to do!"
:shellder: "You're telling m-me I should d-die, I suppose. F-Fine! But I'm not leaving quietly!"

(Ice Shard + Icicle Spear)

"Some combination rules: to be applicable, a combination must include two moves that:
a) share a Combo Class
b) share a Combo Subclass (find those two using %combo [move] on Discord)
c) share at least one target (no self-move + offensive move!)
And the rest is tied to specific properties, but let's not bother you with it just yet. You can find out in time. Just know that priority moves raise the priority of the whole combo from -2 to... whatever the priority move's priority is. In this case, it's +1, so I move before you do!"

Crit: 23, 10, 23, 22, 5, no crits

Indigon's Ralts easily knocked out TMan87's Shellder, but not before it took a big chunk of damage from Shellder's last gasp. It'll be a bit of an uphill battle now for Indigon, but their Ralts is at almost full EN still and anything can happen. Oh, also: in BBP you have to specify that you're activating Trace when you send out the Pokemon. If you want to Trace an ability from TMan's next mon, you can, but it'll take an action.

Unfortunately for Indigon, as far as I can tell TMan87's Hatenna's Dazzling Gleam immediately destroys the Double Team clones, since it's a spread move. Indigon's Ralts might have to try a different strategy to pull this one out, although Draining Kiss heals enough HP that it might work out. We'll see what happens in the next round as the Hatenna and Ralts keep chipping away at each other.

The damage "race" continues, as we determine the power of Ralts' kissing as compared to Hatenna's psychic powers. Indigon's Ralts is getting a bit lower on energy, but the healing from Draining Kiss is still helping to keep this pretty even.
