[Pros]
- Incredible Speed and Power makes Latios a terrifying wallbreaker
- Great movepool with excellent coverage options in the form of Thunderbolt, Aura Sphere, and Mystical Fire
- No Pursuit means Latios isn't getting trapped by Tyranitar
- Good utility options in the form of Trick, Defog, Memento, and Recover

[Cons]
- Both STAB attacks are "resisted" by Steel-types
- 110 Speed isn't as impressive with faster threats like Tapu Koko and Dragapult in the tier
- Has competition from the likes of Dragapult, Naganadel and Tapu Lele

[Potential Movesets]

Drop A Draco
Latios (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Mystical Fire / Trick
- Aura Sphere / Trick

Choice Specs Latios is a terrifying wallbreaker, 2HKOing the metagame assuming correct prediction. Draco Meteor hits stupidly hard and allows Latios to tear through bulkier teams, 2HKOing even Pokemon that resist it. Psyshock acts as Psychic-STAB and nails Blissey, 2HKOing it in the process, while also being Latios' best option against Fairy types such as Clefable and Azumarill. Mystical Fire provides much needed Fire coverage against Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Corviknight, who otherwise can absorb some attacks. Aura Sphere provides coverage against Tyranitar and Heatran, 2HKOing both. Trick however is an option to cripple stall teams, should you not need the coverage.

Orb-solute Devastation
Latios (M) @ Life Orb / Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Mystical Fire / Calm Mind
- Roost / Defog

This sets acts in a similar role to the previous sets, sacrificing immediate power for the ability to switch moves and potentially provide utility or sweeping capabilities. This Latios set is far more flexible, and can fill specific roles needed for a team. Draco Meteor and Psyshock are both mandatory, acting as incredibly powerful forms of STAB attacks. Mystical Fire allows Latios to bypass Ferrothorn, Scizor, and Corviknight, while Calm Mind allows Latios to potentially sweep. Roost keeps Latios healthy throughout the match, allowing it to check dangerous threats thanks to its typing and decent natural bulk. Defog however is an option, allowing Latios to support its other team mates. Life Orb is the preferred item on this set, as the recoil can be somewhat negated thanks to Roost. Soul Dew however does have its uses should Latios not run Roost, and has some uses in potentially bluffing a Choiced set.

Should probably mention Scarf here (as a slashed item for the Specs set). Aura Sphere is better for Specs while Mystical Fire is better for Scarf, but IMO the sets are similar enough at their core that they could be a singular "Choiced" set for now.

Scarf can turn the tables on Pult and Modest or uninvested Eleki which is a huge deal, and Trick+Scarf still gives fat a massive headache.

Soul Dew could be a viable option on Special attacking sets over Life Orb. You sacrifice a bit of power (notably missing out on a Mystical Fire KO vs Ferrothorn & 2HKO on Aegislash), but conversely become much harder to wear down and don't need to spend as many turns using Roost.

I am interested in seeing how Latios will fare this gen. Mystical Fire is a a fantastic addition to its kit, providing it great coverage and crippling many of its best switch-ins like Tapu Lele, Aegislash, Magearna, and Clefable.

Is Ice Beam useless now? It can hit Lando formes and Gliscor (though to be fair they can't really take a hit anyway).

EDIT: and also Surf and Tbolt (and maybe I can mention Energy Ball if I'm feeling extremely stupid. Latios have quite a special movepool).

you dont need anything else for offensive sets other than draco meteor, psyshock, trick and one of aura sphere or mystical fire. ice beam and surf do not hit anything harder or net any relevant 2hkos/ohkos that draco/psyshock/aura/mystical dont. you could make a case for thunderbolt to hit corvi and steela a bit harder but mystical fire and aura sphere are way more consistent to hit steel types, its just a choice depending on how weak your team is to certain threats (aura sphere for ttar/tran and mystical fire for general steel coverage)

Latios (M) @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 244 HP / 12 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Tailwind
- Memento

Latios is the fastest Pokémon with access to both screens and Memento, meaning it could be a pretty OK Screens setter for offense. It faces competition from Latias, which is bulkier and has access to Healing Wish—a tool that offense can use to overwhelm Pokémon by restoring damaged monsters back to full when checks are worn down/eliminated, but one key advantage of Memento is its utility when you can’t safely put up screens. It allows the Latios user to create setup opportunities when weakened, thus increasing your team’s flexibility when setting up screens once or twice isn’t practical. The EVs are marginally more efficient than max HP wrt overall bulk.
