Smogon Tournament #8
Tournament Rules | Signups | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 | Round 4 | Round 5 | Round 6
Welcome to Smogon Tournament VIII, the eighth edition of Smogon's premier Standard OU tournament. From the hundreds who will register to play in this tournament, a single champion will be crowned and forever become a part of the exclusive group of elite players that hold an Official Smogon Tournament trophy. Winning this tournament is considered by many to be one of the greatest achievements in competitive Pokémon.
- This is a standard BW OU tournament.
- The tournament will be single elimination.
- Players will play a best of three series of games each round.
- Matches are to be played on Pokemon Online (Smogon University server).
- Sleep Clause: A player cannot put two or more different opposing Pokémon to sleep using attacks that induce sleep to opposing pokémon.
- Species Clause: A player cannot have two of the same pokémon on their team. For example, a player cannot have two Koffing on his or her team.
- Wifi Clause: Players must turn on the Team Preview feature where players can view the opposing team's Pokémon and choose their lead Pokémon.
- Evasion Clause*: A player cannot use the moves Double Team or Minimize in their Pokémon's movesets, and cannot give their Pokémon the hold items BrightPowder or Lax Incense.
- OHKO Clause*: Players cannot use Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, or Fissure in any of their Pokémon's movesets.
- Timer Clause*: If a player exhausts the timer, he/she loses.
- Uber Clause*: Pokémon that are in the Uber Tier are not allowed to be used. The tier list can be found here. In addition, the following restrictions on abilities apply:
- Players cannot use the ability Moody on any of their Pokémon.
- Players cannot have a Pokémon with the ability Drizzle and a Pokémon with the ability Swift Swim on the same team.
Those who have followed Smogon's official tournaments should be well aware of these, but here they are again:
Identity
I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
Scouting
Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any blatant scouting. There is a difference between "[user] is known for using stall" and "let me follow [user] around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter.
With that said, I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching.
Timer Clause
As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
Disconnections
Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

Match Descriptions
Snunch vs SJCrew
Remember when Phil thrashed him? Eliminated Round 1. Remember when Indra destroyed him? Eliminated Round 3. Remember when panamaxis verbally abused him? Eliminated Round 5. Remember when he played all his SPL matches high? Still does and gives no fucks, none at all. Beginning as a mediocre BW OU player, over the course of a mere year, Snunch grew into a slightly less mediocre BW OU player. He’s lost only once this tournament, to the illustrious SlimMan, while beating players such as TEzeon, yan[sogeking], and badabing. What happened to the !snunch we once knew? Will he end up taking the entire tournament?
Not if SJbossCrew has anything to say about it. This guy’s a bad ass; he doesn’t give a fuck about anything. Got infracted for taking a verbal dump on Bluewind in the UU megatoilet; went and shat on Synre too and got banned, NBD. Went 1-3 in SPL; who the fuck cares, went and lost next week as well. Paired against Alice? “It is unfortunate that we had to be matched up for top 16 because I am strongth.” Told he was playing imperfectluck? “[I’m] Completely neutral. I know of his reputation and I want to see for myself how well he plays.” Get at this motherfucker. It’s a battle between Smogon’s whitest user and its blackest; who will win? ~ Eo Ut Mortus
Jcpdragonx vs McMeghan
Geography failure Jcpdragonx, representing what he believes to be the eastern United States, faces McMeghan, the BeNeLuXiAn wonder. Winner of multiple LNTs and zero SPL matches, Jcpdragonx bears the illustrious title of being the only remaining ST8 participant worse than Snunch. On the other side, we have McMeghan, whose list of easy opponents increases at a rate directly proportional to the rate at which Earthworm’s penis length grows when he bolds McMeghan’s name every time he wins. Will McMeghan win or will he disconnect and Jcpdragonx will attempt to take the win despite the fact that he was about to be swept by a Terrakion and most of the players in the tournament agreed that taking the win would be a dick move and then Jcpdragonx will attempt to rematch same teams and win that way? ~ Eo Ut Mortus
shinycarletto vs Thatsjustpeachy
Boy talent Thatsjustpeachy has shown decent overall performance to make up for his mediocrity, not just in this Smogon Tournament but also in the Smogon Premier League as well, going undefeated so far. shinycarletto has no such record, but:
[20:31] <&negres> shinycarletto knows how to get in touch with the game and can feel all the crits so he will win
In this battle to be in the final four, will Thatsjustpeachy prove that he's got more than just peach fuzz or will shinycarletto sneak his way as possibly the only unknown in the semifinals? ~ NatGeo
imperfectluck vs uraga
In an underdog match rivalling the likes of David vs. Goliath and Rocky vs. Big Black Man, DPP UU specialist uraga(y) faces off against the defending Smogon Tournament Champion, imperfectluck. Both players have defeated some big names to get to this point, with imperfectluck slaying Golden Sun and uraga, by some divine miracle, winning against Bluewind with copious amounts of luck. If this were a DPP UU match, I'd be slightly interested because both players have shown their abilities in the tier during various Smogon Tours, but since I didn't know uraga played BW OU until last week, I'm guessing he stands no chance. On a more serious note, this battle is bound to be a clash of two extremely hot players, one of which is defiantly exceeding all expectations and showing his strength in standard play, and the other trying to become the first player to ever win two Smogon Tournaments back-to-back. Will Sgt. Semen shock the Pokemon world once again by eliminating the reigning champ, or will the only semen he encounter be that of imperfectluck's all over his face? Only time will tell. ~ Iconic
Deadline
The deadline for Round 7 matches will be Sunday, the 19th of February 2012, at 23:59 EST.
Congratulations to everyone for making it this far! One of these eight players will soon be the newest holder of the Official Smogon Tournament Trophy! Good luck all.
